Had problem with orthotic that is 5 years old. MD suggested I get new one nd referred me to Applied-Burlingame. Letitia, the orthotist was able to make some corrections to my old device which fixed the problem. Save me the expense of getting a set of new orthotics - Very happy with service. I had been going to applied orthotics for around 12 years. I loved Mike he always took care of me he changed my life honestly. He recently retired I want to say a year ago which I had no knowledge of. I needed a new prosthesis and so I asked for a referral for Applied Orthotics. I wanted to give the new owner a chance since my experience with the company was always great, this was my mistake. It took them around 7 months to give me a new prosthesis. I was left with a prototype for over 4 months and it had started failing. I would call and no one would answer or I was put on hold for over 25 minutes. Eventually I got so discouraged that my husband would call and the receptionist who I want to add was amazing and took him seriously. The new owner never talked to me after the 2nd visit, and even when I picked up my new prosthesis that MIND YOU LOOKS JUST LIKE THE PROTOTYPE BUT WITH SOME MELANIN; HE HAD THE NEW DOCTOR HE HIRED GIVE IT TO ME. I've worn prosthetics since I was 2 and this was by far such an awful experience it sent me into a spiral. I do not recommend this doctor or company anymore. W ‼2025‼Update to my previuos review from last year : I recentely took my child to his new custom insole as it has been for over three years and what a surprised to feel thae new welcoming enviroment from the new front desk lady and stuff ! Even my child was able to felt this and I could not wait to ask to the ataff if they have change the managament? And they said Yes! It has a new owner and all the staff including front desk are new too . They are very nice and you can feel it!! read more

The receptionist and the lady who casted me are very nice, but that's the only good thing I can say. I've been coming to Applied Orthotics for 2-3 years for a AFO brace and a hand brace. I've had so many problems in the past as well as currently. The problem I've been dealing with this time are actually multiple issues. First, they scheduled me so that I could get my new AFO as well as measure me for my hand brace. I come in, and when I went back they told me they don't have my AFO yet. Then, almost a month later I was scheduled to get my new AFO and my new hand brace. They told me it would definitely be at Applied Orthotics by the date they wanted me in, but I was out of town that week, so I had to schedule it for the following week. I came in for my appointment and they didn't have my new hand brace and my AFO was made wrong. So, they had to start all over with new casting. I'm currently waiting for my hand brace and my AFO. The communication is worse than terrible; it's non-existent. read more

My understanding is that new ownership has taken over recently. This group is fabulous! I was referred to a national group by my surgeon. After multiple phone calls, all I was getting was the run around and no call backs. After contacting my friend, who used to be in the business, he recommended talking to Applied. What a fantastic experience! They got right back to me, got me in immediately, and when I told them I as going to be traveling soon bent over backward to get me back in and get me my brace. Top notch service! Side note, my friend told me they would be the right practice if they recommend top products and not cheaper products made by the company to increase their profit margins. Applied went right to the best on the market. Lastly, Soraya at the front desk is the nicest and friendliest person you can meet. I've been going to Applied Orthotics for more than 6 years. I need braces to walk. Service has changed. Be prepared to wait 6-8 weeks (possibly more) for braces to be made. I've been told they switched venders and this is now the norm. read more

DO NOT GO HERE FOR SCOLIOSIS PATIENTS! I am frustrated to tears! My son was diagnosed in Aug with scoliosis and needs a back brace. It was between Applied Orthotics and Hanger, which are the only vendors used by our medical insurance to make back braces in our area. We managed to find an appointment 3 weeks out...fine. However, 1 month after being measured for his brace, we had not heard back. They said our insurance did not authorize the brace. It turns out that Applied Orthotics never sent any invoice for our insurance to approve. So nothing got done and no one reached out to us, as we were told it would take 2-3 weeks for the brace. After much back and forth, it turns out the one practitioner who handles scoliosis patients--Mike--"doesn't believe in using computers!" So his records have to get manually scanned into the system...and sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. This time, they hadn't. It wasn't until we prompted them that the error was discovered. Then, it has to get sent to their Billing Department to generate the invoice that gets sent to the insurance for review and approval of the expense. Well, their Billing is one person--Christine-- in Colorado who is impossible to get a hold of, even by their staff. And she gets to your case when she gets to it, apparently. How this medical office even has been in business is shocking!!! They do have other practitioners there (who *do* use the computer system, so patient records are not misplaced this way), but they don't handle the scoliosis patients. So unwitting patients are held hostage by the level of incompetence that runs rampant in this office. Shame on you, Applied Orthotics! For the money your charge insurance providers/patients, you should require computer training 101 for all your staff and hire a proper accountant--I can asssure you there are qualified professionals out there who will do their job, i.e., at least, answer the phone during business hours. Meanwhile, there are patients suffering... Do yourself a favor and go to Hanger, which is who we used for my daughter's brace 10 years ago and our experience was seamless. read more

I needed a special brace after breaking my leg. The office staff were really nice and helpful, and squeezed me in that afternoon. I was so grateful. She made sure what I needed was in stock. Charlie helped me, and he was fantastic. I told him where I'd fractured my tibia and he showed me on the charts and explained a bit why it had happened. He fitted me quickly and provided additional advice on why I should keep my leg straight. If I ever needed another brace or a prosthetic, I'd be back. I felt very comfortable here. Also they did have a tv with videos for little kids in the waiting room. read more

Starting the day after your fitting, call them every day to ask if your brace is ready. If you wait the three-to-four weeks to call, you will only find out then that they lost your paperwork. Or forgot to ask your insurance for approval. Or forgot to order your brace. read more

My first appointment was good. Everything went downhill from there. Mike Todd was nice at first and was a good talker but the results didn't deliver. He is very misleading and deceiving. Told me one thing but did another and didn't like it when I called him out out his b.s. He just wants the money form Insurance and hike up the prices. I will be contacting the BBB.The first leg was very uncomfortable and too tall and the skin on the bottom ripped in one month. He tried to tell me the skin is cheap but the leg I've had from UCSF with the same skin for 3 years has not ripped once til this day. The second leg he made is still too tall, even though he was supposed to make it the same size of old leg but he just couldn't get it right. He is just unethical and unprofessional. Paperwork was never completed, always had to reschedule appointments.I wouldn't let him near me ever again. Then tried to tell me he was retiring after me because my leg was too much because he oversold and under delivered. I see based on recent reviews he is still working in the office. Too bad I had to revert back to my old leg, which fits and walks better although he tried to persuade me otherwise. Question everything. read more

Loved Dr.Dodd. I had custom orthodics made for my son whom has severe plantar fasciitis . He received them in late 08/19. Now, 6 months later are peeing apart. I called to see why and if they had a warranty. After paying almost $400 they told me it will be $60-70 to refurbish them. I am very disappointed. She also told me some have only lasted 3 months. I just want to say I've been coming here for at least 10 years and I've had excellent customer service with them. Aracely usually helps me out and it's always a pleasure to see her and I actually look forward to speaking with her. Absolutely FABULOUS. As a professional fiduciary, I work with many clients with various difficulties. I sent one of my clients who was in a lot of pain. They worked calmly with her. They ended up developing an extensive brace. She refused it and was not easy to work with. Mike was extremely patient and tried many other braces. She refused. I went in there last year with a doctors order. I lost my insurance right before that day. I asked specifically if I can still get my braces without insurance and the front desk lady said no problem. When I got my braces and I asked the guy who measure my braces about insurance and he said no problem. When I was told to pick up my braces then they told me they can not get payment commitment from insurance company so I need to pay $1500 from my pocket. That was exactly I asked them in first place and I would not get the braces if insurance does not cover. I think the office just would not even bother to call insurance to confirm when I asked. So, I had to negotiated with them and still pay a good amount of money from my pocket. No professional at all from my experience. ! read more

I came here to get orthotics as my walking has been messed up ever since I messed up my right tibia and fibula. The staff was nice and courteous, waiting room was well kept. My second visit and the middle aged Asian receptionist is consistently rude. Just simply requested in a moderate tone a copy of my patient records, but she could not be bothered to help me. There was no one else she was working with so why the nasty attitude? Why rip out my files from the folder and hastily cram them into the copier? Unprofessional. We have been to Applied Orthotics and Prosthetics several times. My son has had two scoliosis braces fitted and adjusted. Both times the braces have fit extremely well and have proven to aid in the correction of the curvature in his lower lumbar. I would highly recommend Mike Dodd to anyone looking to be fit for a scoliosis brace. read more

HORRIBLE orthotics. I have tried to fit them into every shoe that I have and they still will not fit. I even had them shaved down to the size of my current insoles and they still won't fit. I have a bone spur on top of my big toe and they made the orthotics SO thick that even when I jam the thing into my shoe, it pushes my foot so tightly against the shoe that I'm in serious pain. These orthotics are clearly not made for athletes. I'm sorry but I don't have huge, spacious shoes to fill. And their answer when I asked for my money back was..."we don't give refunds...you may just need to buy new shoes." After paying $350 for these stupid things, the last thing I'm going to do is spend money on more shoes. I'm done with this company. With that said, all the people in the office and Mike are very nice people. I'm just unhappy with the product, the $350 price tag and the no-refund policy. read more

I had orthotics that needed repair and cost over $1000 to have custom made a few years ago. My Kaiser podiatrist adjusted them by taping things together and referred me to Michael Dodd. I asked for something that's hard to get these days, fixing them while I waited so I wouldn't go a week without arch support. Was it possible? Michael offered me an appointment the same week and it was all done in a half hour to perfection, and with a smile. I thought Kaiser was going to pay 80% of this repair but found out they don't cover simple orthotics. Oh no, what would it cost??? At $75 this kind of service and support can't be beat. ;) read more

I was referred to Applied Orthotics and Prosthetics from my knee surgeon Dr. Nathanial Cohen in Los Gatos. I was planing to go sking in 5 days to try out my knee after a meniscus & chrondoplasty the prior year. Not only did the staff get me in right away for a fitting appointment, but they worked with the third party vendor to send the brace to me direct with a 3 day turn around time, and the day before Christmas!
