I felt compelled to write a review of Shultz Auto and Truck Repair located at 5085 Southwestern…read moreBlvd, Hamburg NY. I specifically sent my son to Schultz Auto, to have his car looked at, based on the pages and pages of positive reviews they share on "their" website. However, after leaving our car in their hands, it became clear that they do not share the full picture of everyone's experiences. I can honestly say that I would not recommend their services to anyone. As for my personal experience, we live out of state but my son attends college in the Hamburg area. He was experiencing an issue with his car and we couldn't get any recommendations on trustworthy local mechanics from other students/parents, so while we were researching mechanics, we suggested he take the car to the local Auto Zone to get a quick diagnostic. Auto Zone ran a diagnostic and shared with him the error code. They said he needed a new ignition coil and may want to have his spark plugs looked at/replaced. This was all occurring only a few weeks away from Thanksgiving break and knowing he had a 8 hour drive home, we needed to find a trustworthy local Machinic to replace the coil and/or plugs. We called Schultz Auto and explained the issue. We made an appointment for my son to drop off the car. After looking at the car, they sent us an absurd estimate. They estimated the repairs at $5,827.46. Keep in mind I only paid $8000 for the car when I bought it 3 years ago. This estimate included a full diagnostic charge of $244.96. This was clearly over inflated as my dealership only charges me $170 for a diagnostic. Also, this was not even necessary as we shared what the issue was and what we wanted them to look at and fix. Additionally, the quote was LOADED with unnecessary work including a brake job which, we just had brake work done 4 months earlier. At this point, we knew we were being taken advantage of. We were now stuck with a $244.96 (unnecessary) diagnostic charge, but we were trying to figure out if it would be better to just have my son try to drive or tow the car to a dealership or another mechanic. However, we still did not know where else to take the car. So we decided that we would just have Schultz change the spark plugs because we wanted to get the car back, and drivable, so that my son could make it home (safely) and we could take it to our mechanic, who by the way was floored by what this business was estimating. So we declined all the unnecessary work with the exception of replacing the plugs (no wires, nothing else, just plugs) which was $533.09 and when you add in the $244.96 diagnostic, taxes and fees, we were charged $808.50 to have spark plugs replaced. I feel completely taken advantage of because my son is a college student and we live out of state and I could not be there to help him with this. As a mom, it is extremely hard to send a kid off to another state to go to school. So you pray that there are good/honest people around him that will help him and treat him the way they would want someone to treat their kids. Being so far away, I feel completely helpless in these situations and I worry for other moms/parents in the same situation. The only thing I can do is share my story (which I am doing), so hopefully I can spare someone else from being taken advantage of.

Usually it's great which is why I still went. Second last time I was there the ignition stuck for the older man working there. I told him you have to jiggle the wheel. In a disappointed grandpa voice he told me it's not gonna start one day. It's a known Focus issue that's happened maybe twice a year and my car's been fine for years after paying cash and it's a 2010 Focus. I don't invest a lot in this car, not worth it. I was approached about my rust issue. Yes, I'm aware of it, I drive it and that's why there's duct take under the driver side door haha. Why is this the first time you even mention it, saying it's a probable safety issue when it's not the first time you've seen it at all? And maybe it's policy but how does someone who's worked this long in auto act like they have no idea where to recommend to deal with it? And if it's not fixable and I explain I bought this car with cash and it's lasted me years and don't wanna waste money on it, don't continue to talk to me like I don't get it. I might be bubbly and don't know everything about cars but I'm also almost 40 and don't wanna be talked to like an oblivious kid. And maybe it won't start one day but don't make it sound like a new issue that could implode at any moment when I've already said been familiar with it for years issue-free thanks to google. Another mechanic walked by after my oil change as I was cashing out and mentioned the ignition issue to the older man and said it's a common Ford issue. Older man turns and says "Did ya catch that?" like he found another issue I must not have been aware of (I am, we've discussed this, I don't care). I don't want to have this convo every time I come in just because I have a cheap old dependable car that I road trip to the ground that I'd rather upgrade and replace than invest in. It's hard enough for people to go to a mechanic and worry about getting hosed and telling me my car is gonna not start at any minute over a known glitch doesn't produce a lot of confidence. Nice guy but needs to learn to stop taking down to people. I probably won't go back now.

When i called them, they were trying to price parts for services i did not need and which were not covered under the warranty, and they did not even fix the problem that was causing my car to have the check engine light on that was covered under the warranty. The female manager would not talk to me when i asked for a manager. I had to complain to the corporate headquarters for them to do anything. Later i got a call from my brother-in-law who works for a different West Herr telling me to back off and quit complaining, and he was not even involved with the service. The female manager told him to tell me to quit complaining. When i finally got my car back, a higher up manager then banned me from coming back to any West Herr, but he did not even inform me of that. I found out 2 months later when another check engine light turned on and tried to schedule service. He would not even give me a reason for banning me in writing or verbally on the phone. All he did was text me that I was banned and did not state the specific reason, nor would he give me one in writing when I asked for it. He just said that I was no longer welcome there. I said and did nothing to warrant that. And nothing they will not honor any warranties that i received from previous work. So be careful about going to West Herr if they do something wrong and you complain, they will ban you!
