We recently had Chris and his son Jacob install 9 new Milgard windows and a sliding glass door. Wow! Have double paned windows come a long way! Chris and Jacob did a beyond-amazing job on the installation. For example, our large kitchen window involved cutting a long stretch of counter tile, since the new casings are deeper than the the originals. This was no problem for Chris! He was able to cut a perfectly straight and clean line, w/o cracking any tiles or grout...and NO dust in the kitchen! They are meticulous and cleaned up the job site every day before leaving. Aptos Glass just installed a custom glass shower enclosure for us and it looks beautiful. We requested 3/8 tempered glass and Chris took great care to explain our options and to make sure the glass had no imperfections before it was installed. We recently purchased a condominium in Capitola and needed to replace some single pane aluminum windows and a very old shower door. The best bid for the job came from Aptos Glass. The whole process of purchasing, scheduling, and installing went as smoothly as one could hope. The owner, Chris was prompt, professional, and knowledgable. He had some helpful suggestions that other bidders had not mentioned (he found a vendor for a difficult window size when others could not, and who knew someone makes sliding glass doors with built in dog doors?!). I used Aptos Glass & Ideal Windows for a recent project involving the installation of a custom glass safety railing for my condo. While the company ultimately did a good job on the project, my chief complaint in dealing with them was the lack of communication and follow-through on commitments. They did not meet the dates they commited to nor returned calls when they promised to. This resulted in my having to bird dog them in order to make sure things were getting done, which required more time than I wanted to spend being involved in the project. Since this was less than an "ideal" experience, I will look for a different supplier for my future glass needs. read more

While they are very friendly, I would not recommend them. When you call, no one is ever there to answer the phone and getting a phone call returned takes days. Their quality of work is good, but communication and follow up is horrible. We have had a couple fo experiences working with them, and have had the same problem each time. Maybe they're too busy to take on new business or simply are not focused on customer service? There are definitely other window/glass businesses in town who far exceed Aptos Glass. read more

I so wanted to be able to write a great review for a local business less than a mile away, but alas they never gave me a chance. After Chris and his son met me at our Aptos house to look at the job (repairing fogged windows and skylights), I never heard from them again. I tried multiple emails and phone calls, but no replies. Chris was friendly and professional when we met, but I wish he would at least have returned my calls -- even if he just wanted to decline the job. read more

Wish I had a better experience here. Called several times but no response, so I went in person. A busy time of the year I realize. Chris told me he would got out and measure for skylights they put in years ago, but didn't return my phone calls, and evidently never came out to measure. When I went in, their puppy ran up and started licking my foot. I jerked my foot up and out and the office woman got huffy and said I kicked her dog. Then she kept claiming I did. All I can say is if I had kicked her dog, she would know it and I would tell her to keep her dog off me. Chris seemed to cower around her and they aren't reponding to my calls. Go with Provision in Santa Cruz. A least they treat customers decently even if they are slow as a busy time of year. read more

He provided an estimate within a day of the initial call and quickly ordered the glass, which was received on schedule. We had other work taking place on the house at the same time of the installation of the windows and Chris was very flexible in working around the other subcontractors. Imagine you have a screen that no longer fits in your window because the house has settled. You take it in, and they tell you no problem they can make the frame smaller and they will. And they WILL CALL YOU. They never call. You go back in a couple of weeks later (note they are not open on weekends so you have to take your time off work to take things in). They give you the screen and the person out front says yes, THEY TRIMMED THE FRAME DOWN . You take it home and it is no easier to fit than it was in the first place and then you notice by the wear marks that the frame could not have possibly been trimmed. Is it possible I was lied to? Seems unlikely. You take it back and they say "oh yes it was trimmed down" but we can take it back and trim it down-meaning make the actual frame smaller, which was the original request. They say it will be done after lunch, and they will CALL YOU. Noone calls and I go back in at the end of the day, and they tell you , IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO RESIZE THIS FRAME, because of the way it was made (which confirms that I was lied to at least once). Fuming because I could have made a new frame myself a couple of weeks ago, they give me five bucks to go away. Good luck. read more

I was a little skeptical about using this company based on some mixed reviews here, but decided to give them a try for a replacement double-paned section of a french door. I think they must have had a personnel problem earlier in the year that has been rectified--the service we got was excellent. They came the same day we called to measure the pane and told us it would be 4-5 days to get the custom order in. In 4 days, they called to say they had it and installed it the same day. So, we had a window shattered from a pebble blown into our door from a leaf blower. We called Aptos Glass. My husband was in touch with someone there. I followed up and me and the same guy texted back a forth a very few times, and then nothing. So I called a week later and spoke with a very nice woman. She assured me that the individual who'd come out and give us an estimate would call me back as soon as he was done with his current job. Never heard from them again. Amazing customer service ! Large window installed almost 5 years ago showed signs of water leakage inside after all the heavy rains this past winter... I send email at 6;42 am they responded with an email at 7:14 am and Chris came out to look at it by 11am - holy cow... doesn't get much better than that. The seal on my sliding glass door was worn out & the window was fogged. I walked over to Aptos Glass and arranged to have it measured the next day. I had a window installed by them and was quite disappointed. The window was successfully installed however, that is the extent of good things I have to say about them. They left the room in which the window was installed in complete disarray. Not only were there many heavy pieces of furniture left where they didn't belong, but there was dust and debris over the surrounding area. I have never seen a job site left so sloppy. I called my property manager to let him know about the situation. He called the owner, who insisted that no mess was left, and went so far as to accuse me of lying! Extremely unprofessional. Oh and this window was ordered about five months before they actually came to install. Very poor business practice. read more
