I had been researching setting up a tank as a surprise for my wife while she was out of town. I came across Aqua Pros on Craigslist and quickly dismissed the option of paying retail. I work closely to them and decided to drop in and see what it was all about. After overhearing a conversation with what turned out to be Mike and a customer my vibe and customer service alarms went off. He was patient in listening , probed into the problems, and gave detailed answers without coming off pompous. Mike then asked how he could help and I gave him my rundown. We chatted for a bit, I gained some knowledge, and I was on my way. The following day I stopped by Reefwise as I also saw them on Craigslist and needed to further my research. Walked in, was greeted after about 5 min of looking at the tanks. Two people working and only on person in the store. Hmmmm. I was never asked how-why-what brings me in and after I got my visual fix was out the door. Not a good vibe or experience at all. Did some more research and went back to Aqua Pros on a Saturday. I told Mike what I wanted as far as a setup and he showed me some options. I was leaning towards a 75L from my research and the aesthetics of where I wanted it. Through our conversation he discover I had a 1yr old and discouraged the idea due to safety reasons with the lighting. A blessing in disguise. I never felt like I was being sold on anything or felt uncomfortable. If anything, I felt bad for taking so much of his time! He gave me more knowledge in the 3-4 hrs that he spent with me than all my research 10 fold. He suggested a 60 cube, so I obviously went for the 93. I picked up the tank the following day and got the surprise rolling. As I was turning off the lights that night I noticed some manufacturer defects that I didn't see in the daylight. I gave Aqua Pros a call the next day. Mike assured me they would right the situation and after talking it over with "Mystery Dave" we were all squared away. Mike personally delivered my new tank the next day and the surprise awaits! "Mystery Dave" maybe mysterious in his ways but he knows how to keep a customer happy and loyal in my book. As a side note, as if this isn't long enough: I priced checked everything that I bought from them and can't find anything cheaper online. Gotta love the instant gratification, supporting local biz, and the knowledge and support that comes from these guys. read more

Visited this place a couple days ago and will definitely be back. Great prices and a decent selection of corals for the small size of this store. For those that haven't shopped here. The store is actually behind the main buildings off the street. It's hard to spot but worth a trip. read more

I needed an antique 100 gallon metaframe tank moved from the city to Glen Ellyn. I foolishly went with Aquarium maintenance & design, a company in the city, to get the job done. They broke the seal on the tank, provided shady custy service, and left me with an old leaky tank. Because of its age, they were exempt from providing a refund for the move, or to get me a new tank. They even tried to sell me a new tank at full price, after their error. So I called Aqua pros... Aqua pros came to the rescue!! :) Within a day, I had a brand new tank up & running, sold to me for a great price. They even delivered it, inside my place, and gave me the buckets to make the transfer of fish & gravel, at no additional cost. I should have gone with these guys to make the original move. They are so much more professional & knowledgable than their urban competitors. I run a freshwater piranha tank, and have no knowledge of saltwater, but if I ever choose to make the transition, I'll be sure to come here for all my saltwater needs. read more

Some of their fish and coral seemed very nice but the store felt so cluttered and small I did not even feel comfortable shopping and making any decisions. I ultimately took my business some place else. Regardless of being such a small store, I think the place could be cleaned up a bit. read more

So I went to Aquapros upon the excellent reviews on Yelp. All I can say is these people must value selection over just about every other aspect of the shopping experience. I went one Saturday to the store and was helped by a very nice guy (shaved head and glasses). He was attentive and helped me out grabbing all the things I wanted. I walked out with some frags, a couple zoa polyps, and a BTA and pair of frozen frostbite clowns (which are not cheap). Got home, acclimated everything and added them to the display tank. I only had 2 other fish int he display tank (a mated pair of Potter's Angels that I had gotten from Reefwise a month earlier). Within a week, my angels started showing signs of stress and eventually some sort of infection. Water tested fine. And they were eating, so I crossed my fingers as catching them to treat them proved impossible. Within 2 days, both angels died. And the clowns started showing long stringy mucous coats (Brooklynella). They too succumbed within a couple days (within a week of being introduced to the tank). Here is where my problems with Aquapros begins. I emailed their site and told them what had happened. I sent Dave (the owner?) pictures and told him everything I knew. He responded by blaming reefwise - in spite of the fact that they had been happy and healthy before the introduction of the clowns. But he said he wanted to keep me happy as a new customer and that if I brought in the fish, my receipt, and a sample of tank water we could talk and work something out. This is exactly the type of service that earned them their high yelp rating! Saturday rolls around, and I make the hour drive from Chicago to Glen Ellyn in the nightmarish weekend traffic that all Chicagoans will understand. I walk into the store and Dave proceeds to tell me he can't do anything and that it isn't his fault. I remind him of the "deal" he said we could work out if I came and brought him all the things he asked for. Apparently the deal was for him to mumble for about 5 minutes and say he can't do anything. I asked him if the store had any policy about the health of their fish or some sort of guarantee that is common in the industry. He mumbled that yeah for a couple days. Apparently 6 days is beyond that limit. I told him I didn't even want a full refund and some store credit would be great to make this trip worth something; to try and keep a person who spent $400 on their first time in your store (and god knows how much I would have in the future) happy. He said they wouldn't do anything. Needless to say I will not be going back to a store that treats their customers like that. TLDR; decent selection, but owner doesn't care about service. Hope nothing goes wrong and get everything in writing because they will not take responsibility and communication is not Dave's forte. I got the sense that the owner is too young to appreciate what good customer service can do for a business. read more

The employees spend all their time talking to their favorite customers - older white men with money that need to ask 1000 questions cause they can't look up anything on the Internet I literally waited half an hour for an employee to finish up with this one man. read more

Excellent prices, excellent selection for a small space. I can't wait to go back and get more coals. As for people complaining about hitchhiking bugs, you are foolish if you believe that a store with wild animals will never have stuff like that. That is why you quarantine or dip everything before adding to a tank. You will never find a store with absolutely no hitchhikers. Ok. Rant over. read more

I've been to a handful of reef stores in the Chicagoland area, with some better than others of course. Aquapros is my favorite. Prices are way better than anyone else, the fish look great and are VERY healthy! They know their stuff and are very much into helping out. I have dealt with Mike all the time and he's just great! Recently upgraded to a 125 gallon reef tank, which I love, purchased from them. It may be a bit hard to find when you first go there. Highly recommended! read more

However, it would not fit in my car. Michael right away volunteered to deliver the item. I asked when he would be able to, he replied we can do it today! He made the long trek to my house to deliver a fish tank. This was above and beyond any of my expectations. Awesome coral selection. Few fish but exotic compared to Lombard Tropi. They only specialize in marine life, hence if you have a saltwater tank you should probably go there knowing they specifically care for saltwater fish, inverts and coral. Prices are reasonably fair. Super clean tanks and healthy coral. Small place and kind of hidden, BUT it's worth the trip. read more

I visited this store Wednesday evening. It was difficult to find but when we did I was disappointed. It was run down, dimly lit, sad and gloomy. I entered with my husband, The employee or owner was talking with a customer. (only other customer in store) We browsed for a little but, looked in all the tanks. Found the item I came for but anemones were very badly bleached. After maybe 10 minutes we walked out. Not at any time did the employee/owner say a single word to us or even glance my way. We were ignored. Let me tell you it is not a good feeling to be treated as if you are invisible. I don't know what others see in this store. In my humble opinion it was sub-par. I will never make the 30 mile drive again. :( read more

I have been purchasing from Aquapros for several years now, I have purchased from other places like RW and TA and both have fish and corals but they do not last long and there are no guarantees, some have even caused problems in my tanks later. Both Dave and Mike are great guys and are awesome to talk with. I'm somewhat new to the hobby and they have no issue answering the millions of questions I have with out being a snobby prick about it. I always take my daughter with me to the fish store and they are the only store in my area that doesn't get butt hurt when I bring a kid into the place. The prices are either cheaper or on par with online stores and anything local. The only issue I can see with the place is that it is smaller but they are expanding to a much bigger store. They do make up for it with a broad selection and service. Thanks guys! read more

Well I have been in the saltwater reef hobby for almost 20 years and I have spent thousands of dollars on my reef aquarium. I must say that I wish I had known about this aquarium store long ago and I would have saved thousands of dollars! I have never been in a fish store with a more helpful knowledgeable staff that is more than willing to give every single customer all of the time and help needed to make their purchase decision the right one. I have bought fish and corals for my 150 gallon reef tank as well as a new desk tank from them for my office at work and they always have the perfect equipment needed to set your tank up right. They are very honest and defiantly people of their word. I have brought many customers in from my work and they are extremely grateful for all the business that you send them.
