I've been here multiple times to get tamales. I prefer their queso + poblano tamales. The tamales are large and they are very good. I can only comment on the tamales, I haven't tried their baked goods. If you like tamales, they are some of the best around. Worth checking out. read more

Lately I've had a major craving for Tamales and I had noticed not too many places around Villa Park have them! Yelp led me to Aracely's bakery, which had mixed reviews on their tamales. So I decided to check it out on my own, purchasing 4 of each tamales. (Pork, Chicken, poblano&cheese). They were absolutely delicious! Juicy meat, warm, over all just tasty! Not only were they yummy, but the price was right! It was around $20 for a dozen which in my opinion is a pretty good deal. I will definitely be back to satisfy my tamale cravings. read more

This is completely unacceptable, I bought this bread Thursday July 4th. This was the next day Friday July 5th in the am. When I bought the bread I was already iffy about it because a lot of the doors were open and the bread felt hard. I am allergic to mold and I'm really considering calling the health department. This is a really well-stocked Mexican bakery, with two rows of cases to grab goodies from, plus a glass counter, a separate display case with flan, parfaits, etc. and a case of drinks. They do sandwiches and fresh-squeezed juices, too. I picked up a boatload of pastries for less than $10. Unlike many panaderias, some of the filled pastries were labeled, so what you get is less of a mystery than usual. In addition to the pastries, I picked up a bolillo stuffed with mild white cheese and jalapeno, and a vegetarian tamale (raya? and poblanos). The tamale was really good (they warned me it was hot; it was pleasantly so); the bolillo bread was pretty nondescript but the jalapenos kept the heat coming which was a nice contrast with the mild cheese. Best tamales EVER!! And this comes from a person who usually shies away from them because I tend to find the masa too dry. Simply delicious! Sold individually, by the 1/2 dozen or dozen. I am a little mad at myself for waiting 4 years to try them. I'm hooked now! Edited 9/24: I bought a dozen assorted tamales yesterday. I asked my dad (who is Mexican and a retired short order cook and the biggest food critic that I know) if he wanted any. He begrudgingly agreed to one because he was pretty sure he would NOT like them. I gave him three. When I called this morning, he told me he ate all three at one sitting last night and wanted me to bring him a dozen the next time I came over. There is NO higher compliment than that. This review is for tamales only. It's hard to find good tamales to buy. We all know homemade is best but as much as I like to cook, I'm not ready to delve into tamale making...at least not by myself. I was in the area and decided to give Aracely's a little test drive and I am glad I did. Finally! Tamales that do not leave me disappointed. I remember seeing four or five varieties of tamales upon my visit including rajas. Yea! I got three tamales; pork with green sauce, pork with red and the rajas. My favorite was the rajas (I can eat the sh*t out of some rajas). Both pork tamales were good. As stated in Aimee's review, good flavor with just the right amount of heat and the masa was not dry. They have a lot of nice looking baked goods but I decided to pass this time around. I can see myself frequenting this place for my next tamale (and possibly donut) craving and am grateful for the introduction. read more

The tamales here are fantastic. But be warned, they are HUGE! I should really only eat one in a sitting but I end up eating two and then feel like I can't bend over anymore. ...but sooooo worth it. There is normally a variety to choose from: hot, mild, pork, chicken, and chile relleno. I normally get an assortment to bring to work and just chose the spicy ones for home. :D This place is also a bakery but I have never purchased anything besides the tamales. Go there for the tamales, they are very good and seem to always be fresh made. They have a few different types; there is the pork with either red or green sauce, chicken the same way, rajas which is poblano peppers and cheese, as well as some dessert varities. I highly recommend the rajas or poblano and cheese type. They masa is cooked perfectly and the tamales are of a generous size. I grew up eating homemade tamales and these are almost as good as my mom's, but don't tell her. They are available individually (but what serious eater buys them this way), by the half dozen, or the dozen. They also have tortas which are Mexican sandwishes and a varity of Mexican pastries. I would give the place 5 stars but it does not seem right to do so when I have not eaten some of theother items. They do have a couple of tables but plan on carrying out your meal. read more

My co-worker recommended this place to me since I love tamales so much. I noticed they have multiple locations so I tried this one since I was in the area. My friend recommends the one in Franklin Park though. First, the address on Yelp is incorrect so I called the bakery to ask for directions. The women did not speak a word of English so I ended up trying to find another address online. I figured I try one more time or else it's not worth anymore of my time. Once I get there, it's not busy - just two guys getting coffee. The women who I probably spoke to on the phone doesn't even greet me. The main reason I went there was for the tamales, the lady told me they only have red and green. No queso which is my favorite so that was a huge disappointment. I was going to get a dozen, but without the queso - I ended up just buying half a dozen which I ended up regretting too. Prices were reasonable though. Just $10 for half a dozen and pastries were very cheap. I spent a total of $13. First, the tamales are HUGE! But not in a good way, they had multiple layers of the corn (way too much). I almost took off three layers of corn just to get to one layer of corn for a regular sized tamale. The meat inside the verde was very dry - not a bad flavor though. The roja tamale was not good. It wasn't dry, I just didn't like the flavoring. Also, it didn't help when I had to spit out a piece of fat!!! Kinda ruined my whole appetite. The sweets were good though - I bought some donuts and conchas. I liked how they had a selection from jumbo sized and miniature sized pastries. Very tasty for a sweet tooth. Overall, with the lack of English speaking workers, lack of customer service, and okay tamales - I will not be going back. Although they have good pastries, there are other places I rather give my business. I will give the other Aracely's bakeries a shot though. I do not get what all the hype is about these tamales...maybe the other bakeries are better. I've had tamales 10x better than these. read more

Recently, I made a run in one morning and hit Seven area bakeries in 40 minutes ( aka Life: I know how to live it), selecting a variety of confections for my workplace. The list, in row of visiting: Lilac Bakery, Kuppie's, Aracely's, Azteca Bakery (in the Villa Park Fruit Market), Sweet Connections Bakery, La Luz de Marelas, and the Dominick's bakery on York and Grand (sorta counts as a bakery). Judging Aracely's on their baked goods only, they are quite a wonderful stop. Donuts are fresh, and the jumbo donuts (huge slabs of yeast-leavened goodness) shocked my coworkers. Their mexican fare is *very* well done, including the Camote (sweet potato empanada that is the Mexican answer to the Danish) and pan fino (sweet breads, covered with sugar). On the higher end pricewise compared to the local Panaderias, they deserve a try for some well exectued balance on donuts vs Panaderia standbys. read more

I'm constantly in search for good coffee spots and heard this place had good cinnamon coffee. Eh, pass on the coffee (very weak) but come for the baked goods and the tamales. I stopped in for a quick break of running errands. Grabbed some coffee (sad face) and some pastries and took some tamales to go. The pastries were good, freshly baked but I found the custard so very sweet. Too sweet for me. There are several varieties of baked goods from doughnuts, churros, filled pastries and breads to choose from. The will also make sandwiches to order using the fresh baked bread. Awesome. The Tamales I had were delicious. There were about 5 different kinds and some listed as spicy. I really wanted to try the plain cheese but they didn't have it available. So I tried the spicy pork. Absolutely delicious. These are made on site (you can see them in the back making them). The masa was really good--not dry. And the filling was very flavorful with just enough heat. They make customized cakes and sweet trays for parties. The prices of all items were very reasonable (cheap!) and service was really friendly. read more

We ordered a birthday/cinco de mayo themed cake for a party we were having. The cost for a half sheet cake was $73 and after my wife told them of the party she asked for a Mexican themed decoration, maybe a Mexican flag or sombrero or something to denote that part of the day as well as a birthday greeting. The day prior to picking up the cake the bakery called to ask about the decoration of the cake once again and it was reiterated what was desired, they replied they could do that. What we received on the day of the party was a cake with plain white frosting and green frosting trim around the bottom edge as well as reddish/orange frosting along the top edge. I asked them if there was anything they could do to make the cake look not look so plain and was told no. They did apologize but said it was because the woman who took the order from my wife didn't properly write down what we wanted (who's fault is that?). The cake was ok but had way to much frosting between layers to really enjoy it. To make matters worse, we bought some tamales from there which had always been awesome and were greeted with mostly masa with some very dry chicken and pork fillers. The REAL Mexican bakery. That's what I am talking about. Nice large assortment of traditional Mexican goods. Guava empanadas are a standout, as are the elephant ears. My girlfriend loves the chocolate and vanilla conches (not sure if I spelled that right). Price is right. I got 4 pastries, 2 cookies and a tamale for under $5. Boom-shaka-laka. I visited this spot a few weeks back while I was out in the burbs on business. I had a few items from the bakery... some were great... others were average. What I keep thinking about from this spot were the tamales. Tasty! They were very good. It was a sweet treat to find tasty tamales in the Chicago area. Its a shame they are so far out from the city that I will not return often due to its location... but then again my jeans are happy about it as I would eat these tamales all the time... they are soooo good! Most tamales in Chicago seem to be packed with masa and are dry... but these were so good. They were not dry and not packed with grease. Do hit this spot for tamales... very good! read more

Over the weekend, a good friend invited me for fresh Mexican pastries, "pan dulce", with hot cinnamon coffee, "churros", "empanadas", and sweet cream pastries at Aracely's Bakery along North Avenue in Villa Park. My friend and I had a special treat, walking around all the glass pastry windows, mouth-watering sweet pastries and favorite family desserts, picking and selecting one doughnut and pastry for every one we saw and tasted in our minds... By the time we collected our tray and hot cinnamon coffee to go, we bought a sweet pastry at Aracely's for everyone in the family... Picked up donuts for the office earlier this week. Decent selection, good quality, good prices. Better than 3/5 but not a 4/5.

This was our first trip to Aracelys and we enjoyed it. The lady who took care of us was very helpful and informative. We left with a box of items we have never before tasted. We shared treats with friends and would definitely come back to try the tamales and other items on the menu. This place took me back to Mexico. I remember growing up my mother would send me to the Panaderia (Bakery) to get her all kinds of sweet pastries (pan dulce), bread (bolillos o pan) and she would make the best Champurrado (mexican hot drink made of corn flour, milk, vanilla beans, etc) The Bakery sells awesome TAMALES, Champurrado (of course my mother's are better Ha Ha).Very friendly staff.
