We paid Clear the Air (CTA) approximately $47,840 in August 2025 for two new HVAC systems and…read morerelated work. Our goals included improving humidity and comfort. We were sold two approximately 4-ton variable-speed Goodman/Daikin Fit systems and told they would help maintain indoor humidity around 45-50% and significantly reduce our electricity bills. Instead, we experienced persistent humidity, airflow, and comfort problems. During the winter, we learned our furnaces, which required propane configuration, had not initially been properly converted. Conversion kits were installed after we experienced furnace problems. We have no documentation showing the furnaces were later evaluated for possible damage from this issue. By June 2026, we had significant condensation and moisture around HVAC equipment and ductwork, deteriorated/separated duct seals, and other ductwork problems. Water associated with these issues damaged ceilings and drywall. CTA subsequently replaced most of the ductwork and plenums. Independent HVAC contractors evaluated the work. Concerns identified included oversized equipment, improperly sized line sets, excessive humidity/condensation, and unbalanced airflow. CTA ultimately replaced the equipment in July 2026 with a 2-ton and 4-ton two-stage configuration--the same tonnage configuration our home had before CTA sold us two approximately 4-ton systems. We continue to experience humidity above 55%, averaging over 60% most days, along with concerns involving poorly sealed/pinched or damaged ductwork, degraded mastic, equipment installation, furnace exhaust venting, and a fresh-air intake connected to the supply plenum. We have photographs, invoices, inspection findings, correspondence, and text messages documenting our experience. What makes this especially disappointing is CTA's written marketing guarantees. Its "No Risk Guarantee" stated there was "0 risk" in choosing Clear the Air. Its "No Excuses" Guarantee stated that if the system did not perform to specifications, "we will fix it or refund your money. No Excuses." Its "No Questions" Money Back Guarantee stated CTA would "cheerfully refund 100% of your investment. No questions, no hassles" if a customer was not completely satisfied with system performance. CTA also advertised a one-year "test drive" stating it would correct problems if a customer was not 100% satisfied with the work, service, equipment, or experience. If it could not correct the problem to manufacturer specifications, it stated it would remove the equipment and return 100% of the customer's investment. Our refund discussions were very different from what we expected. During a text exchange, CTA owner Jason Stom stated he had been willing to "give you your money back as you both have requested." but "The release will always be contingent on non-disparagement." We did not agree to that condition. Our requested resolution has been straightforward: remove the HVAC equipment and ductwork, refund the money we paid, and address the property damage we believe resulted from the installation. CTA subsequently offered us $15,000 to resolve the dispute. We rejected it because it did not provide the resolution we requested and, in our view, did not reflect CTA's advertised guarantees. As of September 1, 2026, the dispute remains unresolved. Prospective customers should compare our experience with CTA's advertised guarantees and decide for themselves how much weight to give them. My advice to homeowners: save advertisements, guarantees, texts, and emails; obtain an independent load calculation; get equipment and ductwork specifications in writing; verify permits and inspections; photograph the installation; and obtain an independent inspection. We relied on a company advertising "0 risk," "No Excuses," and a 100% money-back guarantee. Our experience did not match what we understood those promises to mean. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Clear the Air.

The cost was what we thought high ($750 for all units or $150 each). The tech was knowledgeable. One unit needed a new thermostat and he quoted $595 to replace it. He stated that two units had weak fan motor capacitors and recommended replacing them at costs of $218 and $185. There were other items he recommended replacement and one I agreed to because that unit had stopped operating. I declined the three items mentioned here because I believed the prices were outrageously high. The prices he quoted were for the parts as my "tune up" charge covered the labor for minor fixes. I looked up the prices for the three items: Thermostat: $75 Capacitors: $10 Each So, Roberts was going to charge me $998 for a thermostat and 2 capacitors that I can buy retail for $95 That's a X10 markup Anybody know a good AC guy in Galveston who works for a fair price?

The first day was all prep, they covered up every area that the teams would have to move in and out of the house to prevent damage. Unfortunately, my experience over the last three years has been the exact opposite. I purchased a brand-new A/C system in July 2023. Within a week, it wasn't cooling properly due to low refrigerant. The same issue happened again in 2024, but instead of finding the leak, I was told to spend more money on a second return. They installed the wrong return box, damaged my ceiling, and later I discovered they failed to connect the drain properly, causing water damage inside my wall that I had to repair myself. In July 2026, the system again wasn't cooling. The technician confirmed the condenser coil was leaking, even though I had complained about refrigerant loss since shortly after installation. When I spoke with Service Manager Dan, he claimed there was no history of my previous service calls until I provided documentation. Rather than taking responsibility, he dismissed my concerns and refused to let me contact the owner directly. After negotiating, I agreed to pay $1,200 because I was promised the leaking coil would be replaced and the incorrect return installation would finally be corrected. When repair day arrived, the crew wasn't even Vanderford employees--they were third-party subcontractors. They showed up with the coil but knew nothing about fixing the return box. While working, one of the subcontractors fell from my attic ladder carrying equipment. I was more concerned about making sure he was okay than Vanderford seemed to be. I requested a call from management and never received one. After spending thousands on a new HVAC system, I've dealt with repeated refrigerant leaks, poor workmanship, home damage, broken promises, and a lack of accountability. Over the past 4 years I have spent over 20,000 with them only to find out most of what had been done is either useless or not done correctly. Every time I've had an issue they have sent techs out that eventually tell me I needed new coils, new dampers, new plumbing, to have my ducts cleans, and a new outside unit. I don't know a lot about AC so I take it as they are being honest and I just want my AC to run correct. But last year we invested 13000 in a new outside unit, by their recommendation, to fix the new issues we were having and things got worse after that. The house never really cooled correctly after getting the unit and I had humidity issues inside the house. They would send people out to look at it but I was always told things were great. Eventually the compressor in the brand new unit went out and even though it was less than 10 months old and under warranty I was charged 1400 to put the new one in for the "labor" costs. The issues with cooling and humidity continued after the pieces was replaced. I then decided to reach out to a new company to get their opinion on my issues and when the owner of the new company arrived he literally laughed when he saw my ac unit and the work that had been done. He asked who had done it because he wanted to call them himself and complain once he found out what I had been charged. He found holes everywhere in my duct work that had been coved with layers of tape after tape, Leaks around every new damper they had installed and several of the dampers had zero insulation round them and was allowing air to leave the system and hot air to enter. , thus causing my humidity issues and not allowing it to cool the house properly. He also said the compressor issue was because the unit they recommended I buy was not made for the system I have installed and it was overworking and will continue to go out over and over. I have attached pics of just some of the places where you see that they just taped over the issues. He said it was some of the worst ac work he has ever seen done by a "professional". We sat down and went over all the money I had spent with vanderford and what had been done for the money. I was told the majority of what I spent was not necessary if they would have just been honest with me and fixed the root cause of the issue to begin with. Maybe they were being dishonest, maybe their techs didn't know what they were looking for and couldn't find the issue, or maybe they just didn't care to fix it and kept taping the holes knowing I would keep spending money with them. Either way it sucks and Im kicking myself for the time and money I spent with them. The yearly maintenance plan is joke. Had it for 6 years and guys show up, act like they inspect your system and then recommend you buy something to make your system more efficient. FYI.. The new company fixed my issue in ONE day and completely redid the work that vanderford had done and my AC is running better and more efficient than it has in years. Vanderford had been trying to "fix" or "find" the issue for months. Thankfully I called them before the humidity issues vanderford was allowing to happened called mold issues or more in my home. Be careful what "experts" you trust or it may cost you thousands.

It was initially explained from Mike that the labor to install the new panel was included after I questioned the pricing on what was charged. Also what type of business would try to insult someone's personal intelligence at all let alone post it publicly. Shows the true colors of a person when they go to this level. Keep pricing transparent fair and consistent and you won't have future opportunities. I would recommend to others to ensure you know what you are going to be charged upfront as they stated they would do and did not happen. Once again technicians that came out were great with no issues with the work. UPDATE: True colors of an individual come out as seen in the review. Business owner Mike thinks he can take a bully approach to solve his problems. What comes goes around definitely comes around.
