BUYER BEWARE - THINK TWICE BEFORE CHOOSING VANDERFORD AIR I chose Vanderford Air because their website promises "Customer Satisfaction is our #1 Priority," "Quality Workmanship," "Honest Communication," and "Repairs Done Right the First Time." Unfortunately, my experience over the last three years has been the exact opposite. I purchased a brand-new A/C system in July 2023. Within a week, it wasn't cooling properly due to low refrigerant. The same issue happened again in 2024, but instead of finding the leak, I was told to spend more money on a second return. They installed the wrong return box, damaged my ceiling, and later I discovered they failed to connect the drain properly, causing water damage inside my wall that I had to repair myself. In July 2026, the system again wasn't cooling. The technician confirmed the condenser coil was leaking, even though I had complained about refrigerant loss since shortly after installation. When I spoke with Service Manager Dan, he claimed there was no history of my previous service calls until I provided documentation. Rather than taking responsibility, he dismissed my concerns and refused to let me contact the owner directly. After negotiating, I agreed to pay $1,200 because I was promised the leaking coil would be replaced and the incorrect return installation would finally be corrected. When repair day arrived, the crew wasn't even Vanderford employees--they were third-party subcontractors. They showed up with the coil but knew nothing about fixing the return box. While working, one of the subcontractors fell from my attic ladder carrying equipment. I was more concerned about making sure he was okay than Vanderford seemed to be. I requested a call from management and never received one. After spending thousands on a new HVAC system, I've dealt with repeated refrigerant leaks, poor workmanship, home damage, broken promises, and a lack of accountability. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Vanderford Air. read more

I have used Vanderford for several years now because I thought I was getting honest care from them, but I was so wrong. Over the past 4 years I have spent over 20,000 with them only to find out most of what had been done is either useless or not done correctly. Every time I've had an issue they have sent techs out that eventually tell me I needed new coils, new dampers, new plumbing, to have my ducts cleans, and a new outside unit. I don't know a lot about AC so I take it as they are being honest and I just want my AC to run correct. But last year we invested 13000 in a new outside unit, by their recommendation, to fix the new issues we were having and things got worse after that. The house never really cooled correctly after getting the unit and I had humidity issues inside the house. They would send people out to look at it but I was always told things were great. Eventually the compressor in the brand new unit went out and even though it was less than 10 months old and under warranty I was charged 1400 to put the new one in for the "labor" costs. The issues with cooling and humidity continued after the pieces was replaced. I then decided to reach out to a new company to get their opinion on my issues and when the owner of the new company arrived he literally laughed when he saw my ac unit and the work that had been done. He asked who had done it because he wanted to call them himself and complain once he found out what I had been charged. He found holes everywhere in my duct work that had been coved with layers of tape after tape, Leaks around every new damper they had installed and several of the dampers had zero insulation round them and was allowing air to leave the system and hot air to enter. , thus causing my humidity issues and not allowing it to cool the house properly. He also said the compressor issue was because the unit they recommended I buy was not made for the system I have installed and it was overworking and will continue to go out over and over. I have attached pics of just some of the places where you see that they just taped over the issues. He said it was some of the worst ac work he has ever seen done by a "professional". We sat down and went over all the money I had spent with vanderford and what had been done for the money. I was told the majority of what I spent was not necessary if they would have just been honest with me and fixed the root cause of the issue to begin with. Maybe they were being dishonest, maybe their techs didn't know what they were looking for and couldn't find the issue, or maybe they just didn't care to fix it and kept taping the holes knowing I would keep spending money with them. Either way it sucks and Im kicking myself for the time and money I spent with them. The yearly maintenance plan is joke. Had it for 6 years and guys show up, act like they inspect your system and then recommend you buy something to make your system more efficient. FYI.. The new company fixed my issue in ONE day and completely redid the work that vanderford had done and my AC is running better and more efficient than it has in years. Vanderford had been trying to "fix" or "find" the issue for months. Thankfully I called them before the humidity issues vanderford was allowing to happened called mold issues or more in my home. A/C quit. Called Vanderford . They topped off Freon on Friday. 6lbs Freon. 1000 dollars but had to have it. This was to keep it kinda cool till Monday. Got bid from Vanderford for outside unit and evaporator coil . 28,000 or the second choice was 18,000. American standard air conditioner. I called Platinum Air. He Walked up and said 9000 installed. I am sitting in my 70 degree house. Platinum Air was 60% cheaper than their cheap model and a WHOPPING 300% cheaper than their expensive model A/C. This is a big ticket item. Absolutely thievery. Platinum Air pays cost of 15 dollars a lb for Freon. He added Freon twice over the weekend. NO CHARGE. Did A/C on Monday. I bought an inspection from Vanderford but don't trust them now. We got a "new" unit installed about two months ago. I say "new" because I don't know how a new unit has so many problems. I had three quotes from different companies and decided to choose Vanderford; big mistake. Our unit has gotten worked on nearly every week since it has been installed. Every week we walk into a hot building and it makes it difficult to work. The service guy was just here Wednesday, so now that's twice in less than a week. We can't afford to purchase another unit. I'm to the point of seeing if another company can service us because weekly service calls and working in hot conditions every week is not good for business. read more

These ratings should be broken down by category becuase the only thing I have an issue with was the cost. The tech was on time, the repair was good and was very pleased with that aspect. I would rate them as high as I could on that. The part that gives me pause is the cost of the repair and how we arrived at the amount. I had a waterline leak just on my side of the water meter so I spent two hours diggin out for the repair. My entire house was out of water. When the tech got there, he wrote up two quotes. One quote was $900 and the other was $700. I assumed those were estimates and would be way ahead since I had done the majority of the heavy work myself. There was some concrete that had to be chipped out but that was very minimal. I can't say enough about how the repair was done very timely, with good materials and the tech was very quick and knowledgable. I would recommend them with one caution, make sure you understand the costs. I signed my name on the I Pad before he started work so that part is on me but this isn't something you can really shop around for and get estimates when the charge is $90+ just to come look at your problem. Bottom line is these folks are capable and do good work and whether I signed my name or not I can't remove this feeling that I paid too much for this repair. read more

Received an advertisement card in the mail for this company. Called to see if they could take a look at our AC unit which seemed to have some water leaking. The tech came out within the time given. We were charged $95 for the service call. The tech explained that he could not fix the water leaking from the unit within our attic and we'd need to call a plumber. He also told us that an attic vent needed to be changed. If we hired these guys to do that vent then apparently we'd then need to call a roofer to change the outside vent. He inspected the unit outside and told us what service we would need but said the unit seemed to be cooling well indoors. We paid the service fee and then received via email four separate estimates totaling around 2k for separate services. We were extremely disappointed in this as we basically spent $95 to be told that we needed a plumber! When we call the plumber, we'll be calling another AC company. Warning! They sold us a bad unit and wouldn't make it right. We bought an ac unit from them barely 2years ago. It already broke due to a defect! Vanderford said they would only cover parts, not labor or freon. Quoted us 2k to fix. I tried calling multiple times to talk to manager Jeremy Brown, but he kept dodging my calls. When i finally did get through, he could care less. The tech called and said they would shave off a few hundred from the labor bill. Still costing over 1600 to fix a defective unit that they sold us. We have been using Vanderford since before hurricane Harvey. The have replaced our hvac system and continue to service it as needed. In August of 2022 we were due to have maintenance done under our prepaid contract. Nick, the tech that came out was amazing. He was skilled and thorough in his job. Vanderford Air replaced our downstairs unit in our house in Kemah. I needed a larger unit. They assured me that going up from a 3.5 T to a 4 T would be more than enough to solve our cooling issues in the summer and they were correct. We purchased an American Standard two stage system and it's a great unit. Les with Vanderford led the project and their install crew was phenomenal. Update 5/09/21 Received a very honest follow-up email from the Service Manager, Blake Stanton. Blake acknowledged the issues and took responsibility for the situation. He credited the service fee and apologized for the problems. Not many companies will admit their mistakes and take full responsibility in this day and age. Thus, I added a star to the review and consider this situation resolved. ___________ UPDATE 4/30/21 Thanks for the response, Robert. FYI - this wasn't a "cheap Chinese brand" - it's a very highly-rated US-owned company that has products in Home Depot and on Amazon, among other stores. Also FYI - we had another repairman come out. He diagnosed the problem within 15 minutes and we had a replacement part shipped free of charge from the manufacturer (it's in warranty) and installed a few days later. Get this - all for the cost of two service calls totaling about $210. Did that guy like the mini-split? Maybe not, who knows? All I know is he didn't show up complaining about it being "cheap" and trying to sell us a new unit. He did what was actually needed, at a reasonable price, and we are super happy with the result. Did he make a huge sale? No. However, he gained customers for life with his honest work. _________________ Total waste of time and money. I called and asked if they worked on mini split units and gave a particular brand name. Was told yes they did. I explained the error code and was told they could have someone out the same day. It would be $95 to assess the problem. Fine - great - let's get 'er done! From the minute the guy arrived, he wanted money. He kept asking if we knew there was a $95 diagnostic fee (this is after the company had already called to ask if we were ok with that and after the receptionist had asked me on the initial call.) Every additional comment was about money, money, money and how bad the split unit was (it's only 2 years old) and that it would cost more to fix it than to replace it. Complained about everything on the unit including the screws. Then, he says they will need to contact the AC vendor and billing starts the minute they are on the phone, blah blah blah. (So, we have to pay for you to fix the unit AND extra for you to talk to someone about fixing it???) Now I'm out $95 and wasted a day due to this company. read more

So far I have had three repairs done to my AC by Vanderford. For the first two, my AC had quit altogether and I needed someone to look at it fast as my home was heating up pretty fast. The folks at Vanderford made every effort to get me me a technician ASAP while several others either said they's get back to me or gave me a six hour window to MAYBE get someone out there. The two techs that came out were both friendly guys that seemed to know their business.They got things done in as timely a manner as possible and that can really be expected. The only negatives were that I thought that maybe some of their pricing might be a bit high and that the receptionist (call center?) didn't really know anything about anything.... Overall, I feel that Vanderford Air took my issue seriously and did their absolute best to get my repairs made. I will beusing them again and would recommend them to someone who wants reliable service. read more

Needing my air ducts cleaned and wanting an estimate. I called to schedule and was offered a Monday 2 pm - 4 pm time window. I received a phone call 2 days before to confirm. On the day of service no one showed up or called during the window of my appointment. At 5:00 pm I received a phone call stating that the technician that was scheduled "got caught up" and that they had "someone else will be available shortly to head that way". I declined. Who knows how long it would take for them to actually get here. I was asked to reschedule. I declined that, too. I understand that sometimes people run behind, but I would prefer to give my business to a company that has the professional courtesy to call BEFORE the appointment time has expired. read more

Headed to my vehicle for lunch I'm approached by someone screaming out "HEY GAL". I turn around and say "excuse me?!" he responds "You heard me girl" and before he could finish anything further I began to explain that I am not a girl or gal - I am a grown woman. He begins to walk away and until he realizes I've been recording, he displayed a VERY NASTY CONNOTATION. At that time he then decided to apologize because he knew he'd been caught. Curious to understand why he'd even been approached me to began with I asked "what was it that you wanted to start with before you disrespected me?" he says " I just wanted to know if you've been having a/c issues like your neighbor." Apparently he'd come to repair my neighbors a/c unit and somehow decided that it was wise to cause trouble on the job. I do not appreciate being spoken to in such a manner. The words used have a strong history of hate and prejudice behind them and he knew it. He just didn't know that I'd be recording him to support my allegations. This sort of instance should never occur with proper training. It is very apparent BOB the repairman was a racist but NEVER should your personal feelings interfere with you effectively doing your job as a professional especially while you're in a company truck and being paid. Les did a great job of walking me through my AC system replacement. He provided a detailed quote that included the full scope of work and materials that would be used. I had three other quotes before the one from Vanderford. The Vanderford quote was the most detailed and priced very competitively with one of the quotes and significantly less than the other two quotes. The most expensive quote provided a similar detailed scope of work, but it was several thousand more than the Vanderford quote. Some neighbors recommended these folks, I recommend them as well. Vanderford is a American Standard dealer, my other quotes were from a mix of American Standard and Trane dealers. Trane and American Standard share many components and are made by the same company. The install was scheduled and completed on time. The installers were tidy and friendly. read more

Vanderford Air has been our HVAC contractor for nearly 20 years. We have purchased the annual maintenance program. Accordingly, we receive two inspections each year. During this spring's inspection Sean, our assigned maintenance technician, discovered some serious problems with a/c unit that handles our second story. Sean worked on a feasible, cost effective solution with the other Vanderford experts. Then, Vanderford mechanics installed the new equipment the next day, as promised. They had to haul out old equipment and haul in the new equipment up stairs and ladder into the attic. Then, they installed a brand new American Standard unit outside. They had to remove a section of fencing to get the unit in. And, then, when finished they replaced the fence. Really like this contractor! Recommended. read more

Called to have the AC tune up special for $99 which clearly said if you are not satisfied you won't pay a dime. After a brief inspection of my unit I was told by Derrick that I had leaking coils and i needed a new AC unit. They quote me $14,500 for a 4ton 16 seer unit. But he says no worries we have 15 year financing. I wanted to get another quote so he then tells me ok no problem that will be $99 I told him well you didn't tune up my unit so why do I have to pay $99. He then tells me well I did the inspection so that's $99. I wasn't told that by him or the person I called when I made the appointment needless to say I wasn't satisfied and shouldn't have paid a dime like the brochure said. This company is way over priced Call John tullos AC like I did very nice honest guy and he quoted me $6500 for everything and Installed in 3 hours and service was awesome. read more

Last year I had Vanderford Air replace a Condenser Coil on one AC unit that was under warranty, and a Cooling coil in the attic. They charged a ridiculous price for the Coil under warranty and for the unit in the attic. Over $4,000. Today the cooling unit they replaced a year ago went bad. Vanderford blamed it on York. They replaced it and they warranted it! They are liars and crooks! $1500 for 1 hours labor, according to the technician, Blake, to replace the warranted coil they replaced a year ago. The part itself is still under the original warranty, so it is free, Vanderford wants $1500+ just for labor to replace it. When I spoke to Allen yesterday it specifically stated the repair would be covered under the 1 year parts and labor agreement, today he said he did not say that! What liars! They are thieves...be careful using them. Robert Vanderford should be ashamed for what he does to people $1500 for 1 hour labor! read more

The issue is that Vanderford will not be able to provide the service paid for. This is for service in 2020. I was told again today by one of your representatives that the only option is to transfer to the new owner. She asked if I had spoken with management, which I have. It is to me an unethical business practice to hold money for a service that is not going to provided. I can't transfer the service to another address as we have moved out of state. I'm extremely disappointed in the no refund rule even though your company will not have to provide the service paid for. A word to the rise, a good relationship with Vanderford can go wrong quickly. I had purchased a Daiken AC for our condo on Seawall Blvd. back in 2016. The installation was quick and the new AC performed flawlessly until last week when the compressor & compressor mother board went out. We live there part time so when I got down there on Wednesday afternoon and realized that the AC unit was out I called Vanderford. My initial thought was I would not get service that day. Wrong... Jose came out within a couple of hours and worked feverishly to get the AC up and running. Unfortunately, the compressor & compressor mother board were beyond repair ! But, we have a 12 year parts & labor warranty !! Jose and his apprentice came back out the next day and within 5 hours had our AC up and running. New compressor and mother board replaced under the warranty with NO charge !!! And that is why "I love those guys!" Great job !!! read more

I did my homework. I got 7 estimates, read everything I could get my hands on, checked BBB and Angie's list. I chose this company because of their honest approach. They did not trash other companies or products, they patiently explained the pros and cons. Sean was not a typical pushy salesman. He was as detailed as I wanted to go. I got a product that will serve me well. I got an end result (an extra pantry duct) that others told me was impossible. I'm one satisfied customer! read more

I had an excellent experience with Vanderford and highly recommend them. I called Vanderford Air to come out and give me a second opinion on a repair estimate I received from an AC Company I've used for over 25 years. To be noted, my AC was working to my satisfaction and only needed a seasonal check-up. Since Vanderford services my second home in Galveston, I gave them a call and technician, Dan Fry assessed the condenser unit that the first company said needed a new fan motor for ($1,040) or complete replacement of the condenser unit for several thousands of dollars. The first company's tech was high pressuring wife to make the decision on which repair service he recommended on the spot. I also learned when calling the first company about any warrantees I had with them having replaced my entire HVAC in 2014 so its 8 yrs. old and told me I had no manufacturer warranty however, a 10 yr. warranty is stated on my paid receipt. Vanderford's tech Mr. Fry ran all the tests on the system and only found it needed cleaning out of the inside the condenser. We called this company to help us swap a damaged fuse after we attempted installing a smart thermostat. They said they would help, then they took our credit card information and confirmed the appointment. Everything was great up to this point. Two hours later, they called us back letting us know that they would not be able to help per their operations manager Chris request. I reached out to get clarification as we were expecting their arrival. Chris mentioned that because we attempted to install the thermostat first, they would not be part of this. I explained that we understood if they did not want to move forward with this situation but they should have told us before creating the order and collection our credit card information and having us wait for their arrival. At the end of the call, Chris said he was responsible for making the call, no apologies for the inconvenience and hung up on me. Unfortunately, in my experience with working with contractors all over the US, I found this extremely unprofessional and would not recommend this company to anyone. read more
