A pretty good lunch We were being tourists when it was time for lunch. Our first choice had a table for us but no chairs. We waited a bit but when no four legged solution arrived, we went searching again and found Arancio d'Oro. They were happy to see us and our smiling server did a nice job, at least until it was time for the bill. That went too slow, the opinion of an American tourist who still can't accept the end game for a meal is more likely than not to drag on. My wife declined my wish to have yet another pizza in Rome, so I settled on Rigatoni alla carbonara. In truth it was just ok to me, al dente just seems like another word for undercooked. This was our go to place in Roma Italy. We went here three times. Each time we had the fried sardines which were absolutely outstanding. think appetizers beer and wine and such satisfying freshness that the pallet says "my I could stay here for an hour or two. " Then order the fresh focaccia for three euros which was amazing. The pizza was outstanding, but the prepared foods are awesome. Best meatballs with Parmesan mashed potatoes I've ever had in my life, and my wife agreed. We could eat a gallon of those potatoes. I also had the fried cod which was very good, and my wife had A sampling of a few different dishes. As for desserts hold on. You gotta hear this. The first time we got the chocolate Panna Cotta and the texture, coolness and sweetness on the tongue was remarkable, never having tasted anything quite so unique. A must try. One of the next nights we got the creme caramel which was absolutely outstanding. The lightest texture with powerful Caramell flavor. After speaking with the owner it turns out there are two, one cooks the other handles front of the house. They own three restaurants and the wife with her little poodle hangs out in the front. The decorations are awesome, The bathrooms clean and tiled beautifully. Both beer and wine selections are excellent. This is off the beaten path but only a block and a half from Augustus' mausoleum. The prices are excellent, the service outstanding, the quality of food fantastic and you do not need a reservation. Did you hear me? We were hungry and got there when it opened (embarrassingly touristy) so they needed a few minutes for the kitchen to get ready, which was no problem as we sipped on the delicious house wine. We ordered the fiori di zucca fritti (fried stuffed zucchini flower) appetizer, two pasta dishes, and panna cotta for dessert. Everything was lovely but the star was the cacio e pepe! Cute little restaurant on a cobblestoned side street away from the touristy part of town near the Spanish Steps. We came here for dinner on our first night after looking on Yelp for nearby restaurants. Arancio d'Oro is a small and quaint restaurant with local regulars warmly greeting the staff like family! We sat inside for dinner, and had a nice meal! We shared the focaccia with olive oil to start - super yummy and a hint of garlic! Then we had a selection of seafood entrées, including a tropical salad with salmon and avocado and the grilled salmon special. Amazing! We got the fried zucchini because we saw the reviews and it was so good. It was stuffed with cheese! First course; I got the gnocchi and my husband got a special for the night which was a seafood pasta with black truffle oil. They were both outstanding. We split a calamari main dish. Decided to try this place based on the reviews as well as my husband has gluten allergies. So.... we made a reservation and were excited to walk into the cute place. The excitement went out the window when they took us down to the basement and seated us with all the other non- Italian locals. No, ambiance, bright lights and pretty bleak. I almost suggested we leave. Kind of wish we had.. we passed so many cute, charming places with great reviews. My daughter and husband had The Bismarck: one gluten free, one regular. My husband's(GF) came first. As he waited, the egg continued to cook.. very thin, cracker liked crust. "Bad flat bread" is how he described it. My daughters Bismarck pizza was perfect egg and ok crust. I had a pasta dish recommend by the waiter, with squid and artichoke. Just ok.. our waiter was kind, but no one downstairs was his priority. Once the appetizer came, the main course came pretty quickly. The mixed fish plate... not so fresh like I tasted in Italy. But everything else is good. This review is based only on the pizza. Two of us shared one with hot salami, artichokes, capers, and olives. It was very good..... perfect crust, mild sauce, a decent amount of cheese, and flavorful toppings. The service was friendly and efficient..... even though we were asked to remove our own water bottles from the table and we were not given plates, but rather had to share the one that the pizza was served on. This is a great place to eat if you're in the Piazza del Popolo/Spanish Steps/Trevi Fountain area. It's a hidden gem off Via del Colso. We were walking from Colosseo to Piazza del Popolo and were very hungry. But all the places we saw on Via del Colso looked extremely touristy and we were not willing to settle for a mediocre, touristy food. So we poked around a few small streets and found Arancio d'Oro. We hit a jack pot! We arrived around 2pm on Sunday afternoon and the place was packed. In fact, we got the last table that was available. We ordered a focaccia, a salad with fresh mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, and tuna, and Tonnarelli cacio e pepe. Everything was delicious. I believe they make their own pasta, it tasted very fresh. Service was a little slow, but the waiters were friendly (which is not always the case in Rome). This is a very busy restaurant but they only had 3 guys working, so sit back, have some wine, and be patient. I would definitely go back to Arancio d'Oro next time I'm in Rome! read more

This place is so great if you have allergies. I am allergic to both gluten and dairy and was able to eat here without a problem. They have gluten free options for pasta, pizza, fish, salads, almost anything. I heard their Truffle pizza was to die for. Since I also can't have dairy they made the pizza with gf crust, tomato sauce and roasted veggies with fresh truffle sprinkled on top. The crust is thin and perfectly cooked and the tomato sauce truly makes the pizza. The gluten free bread is also amazing, it's not made at the restaurant but it's delicious and tastes so fresh. I wish I didn't have to write these words of warning, as our food was really good overall (pizza was not the best, but the pasta and oxtail were really delicious). However, they tacked on a bogus 5 Euro "servicio" service charge for no reason other than that my boyfriend and I were tourists. I did some research, and this kind of charge is ONLY legal IF it's mentioned on the menu. I went and double checked the menu, and it's nowhere on there. They decided to take advantage of us because we were not local. It's really a shame, because I would have otherwise had a good impression of this place. Based on the yelp reviews we decided to try this restaurant while with our family in Rome. After being in Italy for 12 days this was our worst experience. We did not have a reservation so they sat us in the basement which was fine. Both bathrooms were out of order so we could not even wash our hands. We placed our order at the same Time another Italian family sat down . We were given a bottle of olive oil but no bread or plates. The Italian family next to us received their appetizers before ours which was the same exact dish? We had to ask for bread for our olive oil which they charged us six euros for six small slices of Italian bread. The family next to us received all new plates and utensils once they completed their appetizers we never received plates or new utensils . The food was mediocre at best I included photos of the salmon dish which was €26 and The famous fried artichoke appetizer. Wow... This place was great. My wife and I were hungry for a good dinner, and we searched and searched-we walked around for about an hour looking for restaurants. Most of them were closed or had no reservations available. Then we stumbled across this place. What a God-send! The wait staff was very kind and attentive. Our waiter Saed was knowledgeable, professional and handsome (according to my wife) . For an appetizer, my wife and I ordered the fried artichoke and the zucchini flowers. The pizza that my wife ordered for dinner was the best I've ever had in all the world. I also had the swordfish which was delicious, and a side of pasta which was Al Dante and perfectly done. We enjoyed a bottle of wine called Casalfeero, a 2011 vintage. The wine is some of the best we have ever had! The vineyard is called Barone Ricasoli. We looked it up online and it is the second oldest winery in the world and the oldest in Italy! What a find! It's only $50 a bottle. We were so pleased and amazed-it was so wonderful. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling to Rome. It's worth a special trip to find and enjoy this nirvana of the palate. We even booked a sunset tour of the winery for next week while we are in Siena. It will a beautiful experience. We hope you enjoy this place as much as we did!! read more

This place is absolutely awesome. Just a few steps from Via del Corso, you may find extremely high end authentic Italian and wonderful service. I had an antipasto of carciofi alla giudia and an outstandin raw artichoke salad. Straccetti alla righetta and a filet with roasted porcini mushrooms. Assume that the title means delicious, quality Italian food because that is all you will find here. We arrived right on opening time (7pm), before Italians like to eat. But the staff were friendly and let us pick wherever we wanted to sit. The pizza oven was already on so I was prepared for a delicious wood fired pizza. Which I got, with delicious, fresh ingredients at a price to beat the restaurants closer to Spagna. There is an extensive wine list and the host is very friendly so is happy enough to offer which wines will complement your choice. Everything we ordered was great- pasta, pizza and fried zucchini flowers. Do yourself a favour and forgo all the others to go here. Having been here for a 2 week holiday we have eaten at too many terrible 'restaurants'. This was a gem. With good quality Italian food that we expected to find in Rome.
