Fresaflan (chocoflan but strawberry)
Erika F.

The service has been good through out the years however I purchased a fresaflan (chocoflan but strawberry) and the strawberry cake part tasted so fake. Cake box is better than what I purchased yesterday for fathers day. The fresa cake didnt have texture of a cake, felt like a sponge. The outside of the fresaflan actually looked like cake. Very disappointed. My whole family just cut off the flan and ate it. Strawberry sponge was thrown away.

I can't eat this stuff. But my wife loves it.

My wife likes this place. Gluten gives me tummy troubles so I stay away from it. The fortunate of the unfortunate......I took my wife here and I wanted to try their caramel and pecan topped tres leches cake because it looked so good. I did. It was crazy good. Like the type of crazy good where your eyes roll back into your head and and it was amazing. A little less moist then tres leches cakes I remember trying years ago when gluten wouldn't give me pain. But it was good. Yes I was in pain about a half hour after. But at least it tasted really good. If gluten isn't your thing, stay away. Because you'll end up eating something. Everything smells and tastes delicious. Really good bakery. They sell sweet tamales on Saturday and Sunday only. That is a gluten free option. But everything else is wheat flour based. My wife highly recommends this bakery.

Delicious churros! Cinnamon sugar realness!
Cynthia J.

Pretty much legit fresh baked bolillos and great pan dulce. When you walk in just grab a tray and a set of tongs and pick up the items you want and how many. My favorite thing here is there churros, sugar cinnamon goodness! They have a vast array of pan dulce from conchas to corn muffins to flaky turnovers and jelly rolls. In the refrigerated displays they have an assortment of tres leches, jellos, flan, and cheesecake. They have a station where the staff makes fresh flour and corn tortillas. They even sell tamales. All of their products are fresh. If you want hot fresh bolillos just press a button and dozens come out of the chute! They have an array of milk, sodas, water, and juices. Items are very cheap. The place is super clean which is very nice. Not all staff speak English, doesn't bother me but...there's that. They accept cash and credit.

Best tres leches I've ever had! The place is clean, organized and has a great selection of baked goods and treats. The staff are bilingual and are always ready to help.

Just in town overnight and saw this bakery and had to stop. I actually just left and plan on going back tonight to get more. The sweet breads and pastries are delicious. The prices are great.

Surtido de Pan Dulce -- assorted Mexican sweet bread!
Michelle H.

Man, talk about a great Mexican bakery and priced so reasonably. Wonderful selection that includes your staples such as Marranos, Conchas, Empanadas de Camote, Piña, Manzana, and Galletas. The bread is so fresh and the staff is constantly replenishing. The bolillos are made to order. If you need fresh ones, just press the black button to let them know. Trying to stay healthy? Try their new line of wheat breads and pastries made with agave and aloe vera to reduce sugars and calories. As far as price, each bread ranges anywhere from $0.35 to $1.00. The cakes are pretty good as well. The only thing I'm not crazy about is there flan. I've tried it on several occasions and its bland. There's no sweet flavor and the consistency is a tad too sturdy for my taste. Their tequila and lime cake deserves an honorable mention.

Food: 5 Service: 5…read moreAmbience:4 They have all the pastries NAILED. It's flaky, perfectly salted and the crust is perfect. Not too much chew and it doesn't crumble. The smell is correct. French style baguettes are perfect. The only problem is the pastries suffer from humidity of Houston and if not eaten fresh they can get soggy and lose their texture. I am referring to the mille fuille. The chocolate cake was really good and held up for a few days. I bought 4 baguettes, 4 mille fuille, 4 chocolate cakes and 2 boxes of mixed macaroons for $100. So not cheap but the flavor and presentation was nice. It's a must try in Houston. They do not suffer from a lack of business. So lines can be long. They are efficient however!! Bon appetit

I will definitely be back specifically to get some more of those. My chai latte was very good as well. Service was friendly, attentive, and overall welcoming. You can also see into the kitchen through a large window, so we saw Chef Otto working his magic!

What's nudged this place up to 5 stars for me is they have really improved their coffee game, specifically their quality of cappuccino's. Previously it seemed more of latte, but now to me its a legit Capp. Their choice of pastries hasn't changed, which gives you a good assortment of choices and they have added an additional barista or server which also is a nice touch for service. The only niggling items, parking can be tough, so you'll have to either walk a block or be quick to find a place close by. Regardless, definitely give this place a go to come for a pastry and coffee.

Many of the desserts are beautifully presented and almost too pretty to eat. I especially enjoyed the tiramisu and the apricot mousse dessert, while the drinks were decent overall. It was a pleasant experience, especially since we were able to use our hotel credit. That said, the prices are on the higher side, so I'm not sure I would make a special trip just for it. Still, it's a lovely stop if you're already staying at or visiting the hotel.

We finally came around to checking it out and OMG YES. It absolutely is worth the hype. As a lover of egg tarts and someone who is also very particular about it - these have won my heart! I also heard great things about the mango mochi so we couldn't leave without those. Thankfully they still had some in stock. I heard they sell out quickly especially on weekends. Those also lived up to its hype. SO YUMMY! Tastes so fresh including the mangoes. My kiddo who LOVES mango anything loved them so much! My husband also got 2 savory pastries (I forgot what they were called and I forgot to take a picture) and those were yummy too. Perfectly flakey crust just like the egg tarts. We wanted to get sesame balls but they were sold out. Customer service was great. The guy that took our order was very nice. It was pretty busy but he moved through the line quickly. There's some seating inside if you want to eat there. Prices are very reasonable at $2 each for the mochi and egg tarts. The savory pastries were $3. It's located in a shared lot/area. Parking can be tight and limited on a busy weekend day but they have parking right out front for the Eck bakery customers. Also note that if you pay with card it's a 2.5% charge so cash is better if you have it. We didn't but we know now for future. We had a great experience here and will definitely be back. Next time we'll come earlier and get a bigger order and try their other offerings.

Also, the pastries were what I was mainly hoping for, but didn't see much, just cake and some packaged cookies. The $8 price point is a little hard to swallow, but worth trying at least once! Milk bread is soft and the brisket goes really great with sriracha. The hoisin was a tad too salty for me; I think it would work best if it had, in theme, the aromatics from actual pho, otherwise it's too heavy. The yuzu lemonade was citrusy and refreshing, definitely hits the spot during the summer. There's a bit of space in the back, and there's a patio area (though I'm not sure if it's 100% Koffeteria's, but it was set up for World Cup watching. I love to eat at El Bolillo Bakery. It all started because my boyfriend really loves their conchas,…read moreso he was the one who introduced me to the place. I've always liked bakeries, but I try to eat on the healthier side, so I usually avoid anything that might tempt me.But I am a sucker for cinnamon rolls, so when I saw they had them, of course I had to try one and they are so, so good. Now we actually go there about once every two weeks because we love it that much and I look forward to opening the front doors and smelling the sweet smell of baked goods Recently we also found out that they have cheese & sausage kolaches, and oh my gosh, they are delicious. They are really, really good and were such a nice surprise when we tried them. The location closest to us is the one on Airline Drive, and we usually go in the afternoon so we can avoid the after-work crowd. That time of day works really well for us because there aren't too many people, which makes it easier to grab bread and look around without feeling rushed. The ordering process is pretty quick and simple. You grab your metal tray and tongs, open each little door, pick what you want, and put it on the tray. When you're ready, you go to the register where the ladies count the breads, ring everything up, and bag it nicely for you. We're usually in and out pretty fast, which we really like. We love going to El Bolillo, and at this point it has definitely become a staple for us. We honestly can't get enough of it.
