I almost walked out, but decided to give them a chance. I ordered a vanilla cupcake to try before I invested in a dozen. I asked them if the cupcakes were fresh and the girl said that they were from that week. Most bakeries make them fresh daily or every other day. Went back to our local bakery because I was craving cake. I remembered they are known for the hummingbird cake and my husband and I were not disappointed! The size was large enough for us to share and have some left over. The cake layers were moist and flavorful and the icing was sweet but not overly sweet. I see why this cake is popular here. Looking for a sweet treat on my way into houston. I love macarons but I found out after I tried them that this business does not even make them from scratch. the ones that they import are weirdly cakey and the chocolate flavor has cinnamon in it even though that wasn't in the description. I also tried the chocolate and almond croissant. the croissant texture was very dry and the almond one had pieces of plastic in it (I think they were plastic bristles from a pastry brush, or so I hope). from what I ate of the almond one, before discovering the plastic, was overly sweet. I had ordered two oatmeal raisin walnut cookies and both were over-baked, one tasted more savory than sweet, and the other had bits of the oat that is inedible (the hulls/husk). Cute small bakery that I've been wanting to check out. I've had their cakes at several weddings and have been wanting to stop by but the hours weren't convenient until today, yay! They have a variety of cookies, cupcakes, and cake slices readily available. The prices are very reasonable considering the current inflated market. I got a slice of their tiramisu and love it! Tiramisu is my favorite dessert and theirs does not disappoint. It's moist and creamy with the perfect consistency. My big slice of cake was only $5.95! Their parking lot is huge. The space is clean. We have ordered many cakes from this place because it was my mom's favorite. However, the last two cakes we ordered have not been good. They aren't as fresh and the decorating is not what it used to be. I had my dad pick up a cake this weekend that we ordered days in advance for my mom and there was a huge crack in the middle and the cake was so dry it literally crumbled apart. I wish I would have been available to pick it up because I would have asked for a refund and went to HEB. For $36 there shouldn't be cracks like this. I'm very disappointed. read more

I ordered in advance last night for pickup today. Ordering was super easy. They require 4 hours for preparing an online order. I placed around 1am and scheduled a pickup for 230 today and the cake and cupcakes were ready. Everyone was super friendly and helpful and the cupcakes and cookies were good. I got the funfetti cupcake, snickerdoodle cookie, chocolate chip walnut cookie and sugar cookie with sprinkles. The cake was beautifully decorated and so were the cupcakes I ordered for a bridal shower. Kind of pricey 68.00 for a 6inch cake and 6 cupcakes but the decor is top notch. The flavor was good of the cupcakes and cookies. I will use them again, they are different from some grocery store cakes. read more

My friend loves "take the cake", so since her bday was coming up, I had the opportunity to check this place out and picked up one of her favorite cakes to celebrate!! Before driving up, I called the day before to try and place an order in advance. However, they had sold out of the cake I was looking for (chocolate truffle), so they told me to call the following morning, which I did, and then they told me to call later in the afternoon. I was getting kind of nervous because I needed the cake by the evening, but I'm glad everything worked out just fine. If you're wanting to order one of their whole cakes, I'd recommend calling them before going to the store, just to make sure they're in stock. As soon as I walked in, I was taken aback by the magical smell of the bakery. It was like you could taste the air. The employees were super friendly and helpful with my requests. You can actually have them write a bday message on the cake for free with the icing color of your choice. The whole cake was $48. Because the cake is so thiccccck, my friend had to slowly cut into it. Just the presentation of it was appealing, and I was excited to try a slice. This cake was DECADENT. Super rich and dense. It's got a great chocolate flavor, but I had to eat it in small bites or else it was too overwhelmingly sweet for me with all the frosting. Be sure to check your face after you're done eating this cake because you may have brown lipliner and chocolate in the crevices of your teeth LOL. I had to rinse my mouth a few times. Clearly enjoyed the cake a little too much. My friend loves these cakes specifically because the icing tastes like REAL chocolate, not artificial like what you get from the store. Take the Cake is at the corner of a shopping strip, always clean and neat. I asked one of their staff member what other piece do they recommend and she suggested one of their seasonal cake slices (Birthday cake I believe?). It was dry and very dense. and didn't taste like the deliciousness I've always been use too. it was it's normally fluffy and melts in your mouth. The frosting was different too and the sake was a bit sloppy looking. I couldn't believe of all days. Nobody liked it and I agreed. TAKE-THE-CAKE WAS A HUGE HIT FOR MY MOTHER'S 80th BIRTHDAY! They created a delicious almond vanilla cake with raspberry filling and buttercream icing. The cake was moist and delicious. I planned for 70-75 guests and so I got a cake that would feed 100. I ended up with only 57 guests, but that was okay. Some guests went back for a second slice or even took a slice home to have with their coffee the next morning. I packed up the remaining cake, initially freezing it without covering so that the icing would harden as I did not want the icing to stick to the foil when I wrapped it up. My mother is sharing it with her friends' dinner group later this week. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Take-The-Cake for a special event or just dropping by to try out their daily bakery items.
