Update: I want to…read moreclarify my previous review. It's possible I may have left equipment loaded, and if I did, I take responsibility for that. I've trained for a long time and respect gym etiquette, and I would have had no issue correcting it or accepting a warning. When the fee was brought up, I simply asked to see the evidence so I could understand what happened and make sure it didn't happen again. My intention was to learn from it, not argue. My concern was never with the policy itself, but with how the situation was handled. When I asked about the fee and whether a warning could be given, the interaction became argumentative, so I chose to walk away. At that point, the situation escalated when the owner yelled profanity across the gym and then approached me directly in front of other members. That response is what made the experience feel unprofessional and uncomfortable. I respect that gyms enforce standards and maintain order. I simply believe situations like this can be handled with a higher level of professionalism.

I needed a gym to workout for 30 days. Westerly Fitness was the cure. No other venues in the area…read morecould accommodate. Met with Mike the owner and he hooked me up. The venue has ample parking, men's/women's lockers and showers, filtered hydration stations . The gym is divided into 3 areas: Cardio/weights , workout classes and weight room . The usual players are there: Lifefitness, Rogue, Hammer Strength, Atlas, Precor , Platinum boxing and much more. Note no chalk is allowed. Members wipe down the apparatus after use which I appreciate. If you choose to workout in the mornings, Michelle will greet you with a cheerful hello as she keeps the areas clean. I highly recommend this no nonsense gym. You need to give Westerly Fitness your undivided attention. Johnny C

I have been training here for several months and it is by far the best jiu jitsu academy I have…read moreexperienced. The instruction is extremely professional, structured, and consistent. There are multiple highly skilled black belts who are actively involved in teaching, and the level of technical detail and attention given to students is impressive. As a woman, feeling comfortable and respected in a martial arts environment is very important to me, and this gym absolutely delivers. The atmosphere is welcoming, supportive, and focused on learning real, practical self-defense skills. The instructors take the time to ensure students understand techniques properly, and safety and discipline are clearly a priority. The culture here is very positive -- everyone is friendly, helpful, and genuinely interested in improving together. Whether you are a beginner or experienced practitioner, you feel encouraged and challenged in the best way. They also have a fantastic kids program that emphasizes confidence, respect, and strong fundamentals in a structured environment. If you are looking for high-quality Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instruction with experienced black belts, a respectful atmosphere, and a strong sense of community, I highly recommend training here. I am very glad I chose this academy and look forward to continuing my training here long-term.

My review addresses that cleanliness needs improvement, not the instruction. Note visits were months apart, but both visits fell short. - The bathroom was in very poor condition. -no toilet paper, very dirty toilet and it felt neglected overall. There were no paper towels to dry hands only a used wet towel hanging over the towel bar which I assumed was from someone that showered. I did not look in the shower to check cleanliness as I would not use. Second visit there were still no paper towels to dry hands. There was toilet paper but toilet still needed good cleaning. Also,The floors didn't appear to be cleaned before the training session and I did not see it cleaned after. However we only went a couple times-not sure of schedule. But I do feel it is something that should be done after each session considering people are barefoot and sweat on mats. Hoping the cleanliness factor will be addressed.
