It's been some time since I've been a client at Tecnicolors, so take this review as not a recent,…read moreone-time specific, review, but a review built on years of going to Tecnicolors from when I was in high school to fairly recently. I don't go to them currently for cuts and color, but I have nothing against them save the few things I mention below. The Seagle Building location is simply splendid and the salon is lovely and it's pretty posh for Gainesville. Two incidents however with Tecnicolors stay in my mind, and they weren't horrible but still were kinda funny and slightly disturbing: First, one stylist I got when my long-time fave Rose left the salon (and town) was from Bulgaria. She was truly a sweetheart but ummmm . . . her English was badly lacking. Seriously. It was between her grasp of English and mine of Russian and some help from another stylist that we got through my haircut. This lady could, however, most certainly cut hair: problem was just communicating HOW I wanted mine cut for her to do her job. Second incident: with another stylist, I asked if I could get her to color my hair cobalt blue . . . see, I figured if I was going to do crazy color, I had best at least get a pro to do it and where better than at a salon called Tecnicolors? A friend who is a stylist in another city also suggested that I go to an Aveda salon (which Tecnicolors is) for such a wild color job because Aveda makes colorants that would do the trick perfectly. When I asked her about this, she said that yes, Aveda made the colorants to do what I wanted, but she couldn't do it at Tecnicolors because if some of that blue color got in their pale wooden floors it would dye them and wouldn't come out. Seriously? I mean they do red don't they and that also would have the capacity to ruin the floor, no? In any case, she suggested I talk to a stylist she knew at The Strand salon and see if that person would do it . . . The Strand is also an Aveda salon. So . . . my opinion of Tecnicolors as someone who has been a now-and-then client on and off for over 15 years? They know their stuff, they have a good salon going, and they probably can do what you request (except maybe blue hair!) so give them a shot. The two stories above notwithstanding, 90% of the time I've gone there for cut or color, they've done a stellar job.

No one could ever seem to get the color right. Bridget listened to me and used her knowledge to provide me exactly what I wanted. She took her time and did it right. I booked a consultation with Noah, and they were super sweet! We talked briefly about what I wanted for my hair, which included a slight trim and bangs! After booking an appointment a few days after, I arrived and got my hair done. I felt extremely comfortable in the environment, and I loved how roomy and clean the salon was. Noah made sure to check on me during the time to see if I was liking the progress. In the end, I loved the style that I received! It was perfect, and exactly what I had in mind. I came in for my appointment with Sharon and I asked for my whole head to be dyed cherry red. We had a consult prior to this and she agreed we can make that happen. 3hours in and I was on the verge of tears. My hair is not even close to red it's light brown with hints of copper. (Photos provided below). Keep in mind I have blond highlights in my hair- the highlights aren't even red? How can you mess up going from blond to red?! At $85 an hour, it was an absolute rip-off. I am completely disappointed and this is happening only 2 weeks away from my birthday, I am so embarrassed. I explained to her this color is nothing near what I asked for, she removed 1h from the charge because she knew she had messed up but that will not fix my hair. I had high hopes for this place. She showed me some color samples and helped me choose the one for me. She seemed to know exactly what I was looking for in a hair color. She was very polite and spunky and talkative; she made me feel at ease and comfortable. I loved the color instantly as soon as I saw it. She didn't have to cut too much of my hair since I had gotten it cut only a month ago and didn't want to take any more length off, but she did spruce up my thick bangs and did a great job. She also blew-dry and straightened my hair. Highly recommended, plus the shop is adorable, clean, and quiet (not a lot of phone calls or walk-ins who normally disturb an appointment in other shops).
