He showed potential, ended up getting his own compound bow, and we started asking around for a place where he could get proper instruction. Hi-Tech Archery came recommended, so we gave it a shot. We booked a 1-hour private lesson to get him started the right way. Within about 15 minutes, Jeremy had refined the sight-in on his bow, gave him some improvement tips, and my kid was already hitting yellow, including few bullseyes, at 20 (??) yards. Seems to be more than twice the distance from his first vacation experience, so yeah... awesome to watch. He came home happy and motivated to keep going, which is the best part. Big kudos to Jeremy for making the lesson productive, encouraging, and fun. We'll be booking another private lesson or two before getting him into the youth program. The facility itself is also nice and clean. They have two well-lit shooting ranges, plenty of seating, and the whole place feels organized and welcoming. Great first impression all around.

The instructor was very informative but doesn't look too friendly lol. The shop itself was very cool, there's so many items that they offer! Definitely got us more interested in trying archery. Their store dog is also very fluffy & cute.

Kevin, the owner, helped me set up my bow and gave me the right arrows that fit right for my draw length. He also gave me a lot of pointers on how to better shoot my bow at the range. I highly recommend beginners to check their store and range out, as they are very knowledgeable with a super friendly staff.

They've been in business for 25 years and know what's what when it comes to the bow and arrow! Having not practiced this ancient sport for many years, my expectations were low coming in, but I was pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable it was. The rules were straightforward and shooting the bow was simple and fairly easy. The aiming part wasn't as easy... but I definitely improved by the end of the two hours! The team working there helped out with general instructions and pointers as well were all shooting. People started "getting it" about an hour in and balloons on the targets started popping pretty regularly. I finally got one right at the end! It was also pretty cool to see some of the more serious semi-pro type of archers there with their hardcore bows and compound bow setups. Overall this is a unique experience and worth a go if you're looking for a fun activity. They also have lessons and it's good for older kids. Five stars!

Paul is extremely patient and encouraging and is focused on teaching proper form and developing good habits, while making sure my son enjoys the sport and is meeting his personal goals. My son has improved dramatically, not only by gaining more technical skills, but also by gaining confidence in his abilities. South Bay Archery was also extremely generous and accommodating over the holidays, as our family was searching for a fun activity to do on New Year's eve with some friends. We booked a private party with Coach Paul and Coach Lani and everyone had a wonderful time! They made sure all 9 participants learned proper safety protocols, and taught our group how to shoot since some of us had no prior experience. They kept a good pace, explaining the challenges of shooting from further distances, and made things extra fun by creating a competition at the end, with the winner getting a prize! After that we relaxed and ate in the party room upstairs, which overlooked the shooting area. We all had a GREAT TIME! I encourage anyone looking for a fun group activity to check out South Bay Archery Lessons! I can't say enough about the kind, warm and engaging nature of both Coach Paul and Coach Lani, as well as the exceptional care and professionalism they put into all they do! We are looking forward to learning more archery skills and sharing fun times with South Bay Archery Lessons!

The MSP archery range is the best public range I've ever shot at. In fact, it's better than the…read moremajority of private ranges, too. Located along the Eastern side of Mile Square Park, along Euclid St, the range is a beautiful outdoor setting, with the entire length of the shooting lanes covered with a nice, big steel structure. There are 20+ lanes, starting with 10 yd bales on one end, going out to 70-80 yds on the other end, in 10 yd increments. There are also lanes with no bales for archers who want to bring their own targets, stands, etc. It is a popular spot for shooters, and is especially busy on the weekends, so be prepared that you may have to wait for a lane, or share a lane with your group. (And seriously, if you are going to a public range with a group of 4-5 people, do you EACH need your own lane? Be kind and share!) The bales are all foam, and do get replaced periodically as the middles get shot out. The range is generally not monitored by Park Rangers, so it is up to the shooters to self-manage the range most of the time. Also note that the Parks Service runs group lessons most Saturday mornings, and when the lessons are running the Parks staff will call out the range commands. When the range is busy, and when Parks is running group lessons, the range will be slow. If you are a fast shooter, bring enough arrows so you don't shoot your 6 then wait 5 - 10 minutes for the rest of the range to finish the round. (Conversely, don't shoot 20-30 arrows if the entire range is waiting on YOU to finish a round.) There is a paid parking lot ($5) inside the park, right next to the west end of the range. Entrance is on Euclid, almost to Warner Ave. Or, you can park along Euclid for free, and just walk in to the range (~200 yards walk through the park.) There are park restrooms behind the range if you need. The range itself is free to use. Overall a beautiful place to shoot your bow(s), well maintained, and vast majority of archers there are good, friendly types.

I can't give too much of a review, it really didn't work out right from the start…read more Both instructors seem like very nice men, however, the program has some critical problems. Their "adult class" consist of persons as young as 13 years old. A man sized opponent really isn't fair to a person as young as 13, I fence epee. Also, I am not interested in fencing with children, but adults. that is not offered there. it's $230.00 a month for 3 times a week. That's rather costly to face the distraction of children. There are not many offerings in the area, so the lack of a true adult fencing program or club is problematic. Now, if this were for my children, I would absolutely recommend it, but this is for me. You' think that in San Diego County, there would be MORE available for adult fencers. The argument presented that there just isn't interest is absolutely false. It's just that adults aren't fencing because there aren't fencing clubs for us specifically. it's by it's nature not an expensive sport. but if I am going to pay in excess of $230.00 a month, it's going to have to cater to actual adult fencers. This said, I am very glad this is available to children, I was a child when I began fencing. It was a wonderful activity that kept me out of trouble and I had a lot of fun. In order to sign up for this, you have to go through the city Parks and Recreation departmental. In speaking with them, you can't possibly talk to a more unpleasant and unhelpful person. That experience detracts from the "class" altogether, which is why my ratings is only three stars compelling me to drive 2 to 3 hours away to OC or LACO so I can actually have the club experience that I want. I'm glad this program is available for kids, if you want your kid to train to fence, this is a great place. Champions will be made there. More on the coaches. Maestro Eric (Coach) is a responsive coach, and a very pleasant coach. Really upbeat and wants to address this. However, city parks makes this a real issue and are more geared toward children. Whereas I am interested in adult competitive olympic fencing. Without a doubt both coaches would be perfect to train me. But city parks and recreation make that impossible. However, should that ever change, I would very much like to see if going there to train would be a better fit for me as they are local and I am driving two hours to train now.
