For example the pizza was described as being 6 inches but in practice is closer to 10-12 inches. Bello is an Italian restaurant, but thinking about it, I don't think I've had it with more of a French influence. Coming from NYC, I'm usually more used to American-Italian. I liked the veal parm, but I'm used to the pasta being more tomato, while theirs seem to be more white wine focused - definitely different from my taste bud from US! Wanted to find an Italian restaurant that served pizza and Bello Ristorante was down the street. We did not have reservations and even through we were there really early, we almost didn't get seated. The place was busy. We ordered and had drinks. There was a nice flow to the restaurant. It wasn't what I expected, I was thinking of a neighborhood pizza place. This was an elegant Italian restaurant with a really nice menu so we decided to forgo the pizza and order dishes to try. They offer half portions on many dishes which was a really nice option as well. I had the Pesto pasta and it was delightful. My husband had the lasagna and our friends also had pasta and the French Onion soup. Along with our meal we had the Calamari and I enjoyed a Paloma. All gave their meals 2 thumbs up. read more

Oh, Hello Bello! If you love Italian food, definitely make reservations for Bello in Quebec City. Luckily our hotel made these last minute bar reservations for us and we were so glad that he did. Sexy ambiance, with their low lights and clubbish-vibes but in a good way. The music mood was an excellent one. Servers are very distiguished and polished. Extreme elegance here but don't worry you don't have to get all dressed up but I would recommend wearing something nice. Upon being greeted by a friendly host we were seated at the bar which is usually our normal spot. Our bartender was very friendly and efficient. We started off with a glass of Montepulciano red wine and Arancini. My husband also had French Onion Soup which he said was the best ever. I ordered a salad for myself. Since they are known for Italian we shared their Proscuitto Pizza. It was well cooked and crispy just to our liking. The dough wasn't all that heavy either. We also ordered one of their coffee drinks which was half Baileys, half Frangelico topped with Espresso. They were so good and perfect to end our meal with. I know I am going to try and make them at home sometime. Bello is definitely a restaurant to dine in while visiting Quebec. It was expensive but again definitely worth it. Inside the old walls of Quebec City at dinnertime I was skeptical of almost every restaurant I saw. Desperate not to wind up in a tourist trap with awful food, as had happened recently in Montreal, spotting Bello was a relief. It traded in Italian fare, not French, had a buzz about it owing to a modern ambiance, and sported enough diners that I feared I might not be able to get a seat. Happily, I was seated here without a reservation but the first seat they supplied was at the bar (no problem) and right in the heat path of the nearby pizza oven (huge problem). When I said there was no way I could sit there - voila - a table magically appeared. So speak up. Bello's pastas aren't, unfortunately, made in house but they make up for that with comically large portions. Seeing the volume of pasta on other plates, I was happy to have ordered only a half-serving of Linguini Bolognese. Accompanied by a bottle of wine and a Calamari Fritti starter, it was clear I'd made a good choice this time. Beautiful building and I am learning that most restaurants in this city are open space with no AC so it was uncomfortably warm. Service was efficient and food came out of the kitchen fairly quick. We had the linguini meat sauce bolognese. Light on the marinara sauce but delicious. They offer half or full portions. We also had the scallop risotto. The sautéed scallops were tender and sweet. Was there twice on our stay in Quebec. Strange to give a "maybe" when we visited two nights during the stay. Food was very good! First night was a shared barrita salad, and 1/2 order of pasta with clams (yum) and pasta with sausage (yum). Last visit was calamari (yum) with, to me, a very, very faintly flavored mayo sauce (meh) and Parmesan fondue which was a deep fried cube of cheese ala mozzarella sticks. They were out of clams so I tried the pasta and wild mushrooms which was nice and another order of pasta and sausage. Carrot cake was quite good with a frosting that was not as overpowering sweet as American style. Now, service was something else. Expect a very leisurely meal. You might even think you are forgotten. One night the male staff were completely taken with young ladies. Lots of chit-chat, hanging around, etc. to the lack of paying attention to other diners. No one seemed to know what table was getting what dinners. The following night was a somewhat repeat of disorganization but with female waitstaff. One customer's chair slid off the raised outdoor dining area and he landed on the sidewalk. The staff knew this but only much later asked if he was ok. Strange, indeed. So this is where the "maybe" comes to play. Food was quite good but for the price, I would expect a much smoother operation with waitstaff attentiveness. read more

This place was packed! The seating was near each other, it was pretty loud to me and it was on the dark side. The service was top notch and the food was worth it! I'm not a big Italian person but I do like to try new things. It was a little difficult for me to decide on what I wanted since I normally don't eat pasta so I asked the server what he'd recommend for me. He asked a couple questions and steered me in a direction and it did not disappoint. I ended up with the seared veal with lemon sauce. The lemon was pretty strong so once I got the balance of sauce, veal and pasta right it was great. They serve little bread loads. All the bread in Quebec was great! You can't go wrong any where getting a fresh loaf and this was no exception. Seared Veal 8.5/10 Seafood Pasta 8.5/10 Bread 9/10 The overall experience was a little much for me with the noise, close proximities to others and dim lighting but I'm not going to let that negatively impact the score as it's just my personal preference. DELICIOUS ITALIAN DINNERS We enjoyed dining twice at Bello Ristorante during our recent visit to Old Quebec. Bello is an attractive upscale restaurant with both indoor seating and an outdoor covered patio that faces a quiet street. Service was professional and friendly. We had returned to Bello to celebrate my birthday but other than a birthday greeting by the host while being seated, it was disappointing that our waitress never acknowledged my birthday. Both evenings began with the Insalata di Rucola (arugula salad $15) and the Calamari Fritti ($20). Each was large enough to share. The arugula salad was the best salad we had during our trip - lightly dressed and tossed with herbs and finely julienned and sliced veggies. The calamari was expertly fried and not overcooked - crisp outside and tender on the inside. For our entrees, we had Linguine alle Vongole ($33), Fettucine all'Anatra ($38), Rigatoni all'Arrabiata al Gambaretti (1/2 order $28) and Scaloppine di Vitello al Limone ($40). Our favorite was the linguine with clam sauce that had almost a dozen clams as well as chopped clams in a light broth. The tender veal scallopine was served with a luscious creamy lemon sauce that was neither sour or tart. We enjoyed the Fettucine all'Anatra with its generous amount of shredded duck confit and topped with a thick slice of foie gras torchon. Although it was a delicious dish, we felt it was too rich for a summer evening dinner and would have been better appreciated on a cold wintry night. This was also a very large dish and a half order would have been more than enough. The rigatoni with shrimp and goat cheese was a miss - we felt the goat cheese overpowered the dish and did nothing to temper or complement the spiciness of the pasta sauce. The creamy silky panna cotta was heavenly and with a scoop of raspberry sorbet, it was like having two desserts in one. Less successful was the small tiramisu that resembled a light pudding instead of a layered dessert. For Quebec newbies - note that your bill will reflect two fees - TVQ (Quebec provincial sales tax) and TPS (federal goods and services tax) that will add almost 15% to your total bill. These fees are not in lieu of your tip that is calculated on the food total only. read more

My wife and I visited on a very busy Friday evening and luckily we had reservations. We scored a nice quiet table in the corner where it was quieter and less foot traffic. A very trendy and modern vibe. After you place your order, we received a complimentary basket of bread with dipping oil and vinegar. We began with a very tasty order of grilled calamari. Cooked fresh and served hot. Excellent start. Our entrees consisted of a full order of the Linguine Bolognese and a half order of the Linguine with Pesto. If you have a healthy appetite, go with the full order, which I finished. Both dishes were very impressive. The Linguine Bolognese had an impressive amount of meat in their sauce and it was tasty. My wife loved her linguine pesto and was able to finish the half order. Both orders came out fresh and hot. No room for dessert. The service was excellent and friendly. Our waiter spoke fluent English. The prices were very reasonable considering you are within the walls of old town Quebec. I was so excited to try this restaurant. The bellman at the Fairmont Hotel gave it a glowing review and said they would be great with my food allergies. It was a Tuesday at 6:39 PM so we expected to get a table with a minimum of wait time.We were told that it would be a 5 minute wait for a table. Then, inexplicably, another party of 2 came in while we were waiting and were seated immediately. The host said that he only had seats at the bar for us (also a party of 2) unless we wanted to wait for 1.5 hours. I said to my fiancé, " maybe we should go elsewhere." The host brought back 2 glasses of champagne. Maybe he felt bad for giving away our table. We begrudgingly agreed to the bar seats. The ambiance was okay. Where we were seated at the bar was near a wood burning oven so it was hot! The only relief was when the door opened. I explained to the bartender/server about my allergies and unfortunately the kitchen messed up the order. She remedied the situation immediately. Our food was good however service was slow and paying $258 for 2 people to sit at a bar to eat seemed wasted considering the subpar level of service and mediocre ambience.
