I had a pastrami Sandwich City Meal which came with a side, but the kicker is that I had to pay for each side plus the meal. Sandwich ($10.99) I ordered "lean" as BBQ places usually leave the fat on your protein. The meat was pretty dry, but had a good taste. A side of creamy slaw was very good ($2) and I was able to eat some of wife's fried okra, which was also very good with ranch dressing. Beverages, like iced tea and Pepsi were $2.99 each. The tables inside were cleared with the exception of one large table that had their traditional display of uneaten food and debris. I only saw three employees: order taker, kitchen preparer and a woman who picked up the orders and brought them to you. Apparently City BBQ has yet to hire a bus person to clear and clean tables and to sweep the floor. Irony is that when we have been to events catered by City BBQ the food was excellent. We will not be in a rush to re-patronize this location.

We were brought hushpuppies but weren't even given plates to eat them on, and we had to ask for basic things throughout the meal. Fries were excellent, the chicken was pretty good and we didn't care for the dumplings. They were just ok. The issue we had was there seemed to be an aftertaste with all the items like the oil needed to be changed. We are going to try this place again to see if maybe that was a one time issue. Remove the condiments and the mustard and you're left with a gray, lifeless disc of beef just begging for a hard sear and seasoning. Disappointing. Moreover, both our buns were dried out and the sliced tomatoes were not ripe. Has my "Give 'em a Whirl" meter wondering if we should try them again or look somewhere else.
