The Q Shack is a pretty decent BBQ spot overall! My wife and I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon for lunch since we were craving some good local barbeque. This place did not disappoint but it does have some catching up to do with the rest of the local barbeque competition. The location was centrally located and easy to get to (inside a shopping plaza) with plenty of free parking. The space inside was clean and comfortable, and the ordering process was good. Staff was super friendly, professional and helpful. The menu has limited options of pork, turkey, chicken, ribs and sausages. My wife and I tried the three-meat combo: ribs, brisket and sausage. The ribs and brisket were good but the sausage was OK as it tasted like it was from a can. The options for barbeque sausages were the same as what you find in a regular bbq place, but the sauce that was really good was the raspberry one (refer to the photos). That was my favorite! I recently had one of those nights where I Just did not feel like cooking. I was craving something simple like a meat and 2 sides [where are the family restaurants around here?!] No seriously, if you know of one let me know. Anyway, my husband suggested the Q Shack because he grew up going here and wanted to try it out, so we did. I got the brisket plate with a side salad and mac & cheese. He got the pulled pork BBQ plate and we shared some honey BBQ wings. If 10 was the best brisket I've ever had, I would give this a solid 6.5. Good! But not great which was fine for random Friday night take out. The brisket wasn't dry at all and had good flavor. I love smoked wings and these were good but I was sorely disappointed they gave us ALL FLATS! Not sure what that was about, I much prefer the drums. I've never seen a place give you all flats or all drums without you specifically ordering them that way. The mac and cheese was good, tasted like creamy stove top mac, it wasn't baked dry like a lot of places. The side salad was nice and fresh with lots of toppings. Oh, and they have the GOOD RANCH. I had a bad experience and never went back, despite being a customer for over a decade. This place has lost its value. The staff doesn't understand customer service, and the food is hit or miss. I received a poor order of brisket and other items. Even worse was when I called, and they were short on answers. When I went back in person, the young staff was dismissive and said I should have come in 30 minutes before closing. Spent money for four people and everyone was disappointed. The Owner eventually made it right, but it took several text messages and months. It's one thing to get a bad meal- It's another thing to get-a bad response. Ordered the St Louis Ribs-no flavor came out piping hot, may have been microwaved to warm up. They tasted like they were made a week ago. Place is general was very dirty. Garbage cans had dried sauce that looked like they've not been thoroughly cleaned in months. Bathroom was atrocious. read more

Came to this spot tonight as a party of 4 because there were significant waits (1 hour or more) at every other restaurant nearby for our initial party of 6. They certainly accommodated our party size (as this is an order at the bar then seat yourself type place), so if you need quick food for a hungry crowd this might be a great place for you! We got three pulled chicken plates and one pulled pork sandwich plate and the meat and sides were just okay. The pulled chicken was kind of watery but had an okay flavor and was not dry. The mustard sauce with the Texas chipotle bbq sauce was a good combination on it. Tables were clean, no thrills or servers- you pay at the bar and take an order number to your table! Staff were very friendly. All in all, I would maybe try this place again if I was really in the mood for bbq but would probably spring for the brisket and try different sides other than the Mac and cheese and side salad. Traveling through the area with pets in the car, opted for a parking-lot picnic with The Q Shack. Our food had been sitting and was ready way before the email advised for pickup. This was at lunchtime on a Wednesday, spending $34. Brisket Sandwich was very flavorful but it needed the two packets of mayonnaise on the dry bread. Side of macaroni and cheese had zero cheese flavor and tasted like oil and seasonings, which was pretty disappointing. Hush puppies were great. Pulled Pork Sandwich was dry and a tough, but flavor was there. Collards as a side were super hot and mediocre on the flavor scale. We had been wanting to try the Q Shack here in Charlotte. We'd been to the one in Durham several times, and we love that location! This location is set up the same-you order at the counter. There are sandwich and plate combos, where you can pick the meat and then order 2 sides. This time I ordered the pulled chicken plate with mashed sweet potatoes and onion rings. My husband got the turkey plate with fried okra and french fries. My pulled chicken didn't have much flavor, but it was tender. The onion rings were hot and fried fresh! As 10-year regulars, this was one of our go-to restaurants for BBQ in south Charlotte I as mentioned in my prior review; however, following a change of ownership and three visits, I must say that in my opionion, I miss the old one. From the Q itself, which is now more watery and less tasty, to their dry buns (no longer buttered and toasted), it falls way short of what it was before. The sides which used to be special, now seem to be an afterthought. The mac and cheese now seems almost box-made. The Jalapeno deviled eggs no longer taste like they are made fresh daily and have increased from 39 cents each to 59 cents each. The hush puppies are still delicious but have been lukewarm on two of my last three visits. They used to be piping hot anytime. One of the biggest disappointments however is the banana pudding. Once light, delicious and loaded with fresh bananas and crunchy cookies, it was bland, full of black rotten bananas and soggy vanilla wafers. I took two bites and tossed the rest. All prices have increased which would be fine if the food quality or quantity also increased. The new owners are no less passionate than the prior and service is still friendly and attentive. Also the joint is still immaculate. However sometimes if it ain't broke you don't fix it, and this place was far from broken. read more

My husband keeps a list of BBQ places to visit while we are traveling. We ate at this restaurant during the pandemic, so there were items they couldn't get due to supply issues. I ordered a full rack of ribs and they were disgusting. I called the manager just to ensure that they were not under cooked and he assured me that this is the way there were supposed to be. Just moved here from Chicago. Full disclosure, I'm a Boilermaker and Dan is too. That being said I'm fair when it comes to food. Dan and crew are super friendly and I felt overwhelmed with a sense of belonging as soon as we started dialogue. Had the perfectly cooked brisket on TX toast with a side of creamy coleslaw, awesome hush puppies/corn fritters, a taste of the delicious Brunswick stew and a KILLER banana pudding. I prefer a rub with a noticeable crunch on it but Dan lets the meat speak for itself and I respect that. He pairs them with sauces that compliment the meat and takes me to my happy place (including a chipotle bleu cheese sauce I may just bathe in one day). I also added a little of the bbq sauce to the stew because I like it with a bit more tang. Monster! All in all, I have found my spot in Charlotte. BOILER UP!! read more

Me and my fiancé were looking for another good bbq joint in the area and we had passed this place multiple times so decided we would give it a shot. Ugh. Terrible visit. Stopped by for a quick late lunch. Took so long for someone to help me that I almost left. I wish I had. I ordered a salad, small side of stew and a drink. When the guy rang me up I knew the total couldn't be correct. He was SO clueless so he asked the lady who made my order and she told him it was correct. Okay fine. I figured the listed prices were not up to date. Asked for my receipt and sure enough, they charged me for a different salad and a larger stew than I ordered. He didn't know how to fix it, called the same lady over. She assured me it was voided even though I questioned that it only looked voided on her register, not on my card. I check tonight and sure enough - two charges from Q Shack and no pending credit. So now I've paid $30 for a salad with cold, bland bbq chicken and oily Brunswick stew. Not happy at all! Beyond that this place seems way more tired than my last visit 5 years ago. Just kind of neglected and not very clean. All the labels on the sauce bottles are peeling off and the bottles are dirty. The Q Shack used to be my best bet for a quick bbq craving a few years ago. It was just about the only place in the area. But, in the past few years, stronger competition has emerged. With an online order, just about anybody can have a meal ready by the time I arrive, or it can be delivered. So, the quick service model at the Q Shacks has its limits as a differentiator now. The Q Shack pulled pork bbq sandwich is good, but not stellar. The ribs are better than the pulled pork, but not the best in the area. I really like their jalapeño deviled eggs. The Mac n Cheese did not excite me. I have no reason to not stop by the Q Shack if I want a quick Bbq takeout, especially for lunch. They do have good customer service. But, it's just not my first choice for a sit down Bbq meal with the family or a larger order for a gathering at home. Sorry - wanted to love it more, but I didn't. read more
