The burgers were much bigger than I had anticipated for the price. Cooked like a smash burger should be with crispy edges, these were delicious juicy burgers that only needed a bit of salt to make them perfect. Good cheese, good bun, and fresh lettuce, tomato, and PBR onions. Crinkle cut fries were hot and crisp. The onion rings were probably the best BREADED onion rings I've had, although I usually prefer battered these were really good. Cool diner atmosphere. Plenty of beer choices along with Coke products for drinks. And for dessert, Scratch ice cream parlor connected right next door to satisfy your sweet tooth. I could see Archie's was bright and cute from outside the window with retro style seating (think red vinyl chairs and stools with chrome and stainless accents throughout the place). It's not just a burger joint as they had eight draft beers and 40+ cans/bottles plus hard seltzers. I expected to see shakes or scoops on Archie's menu since they share space with Scratch ice cream, but there weren't any. I kept my order simple with the No. 1: house patty (from Becher Meats), American cheese, PBR onions on a Martin's potato bun. Mr. R had the same and added onion rings. Our order came out pretty quickly. There were three nice quality pickle slices served on the side. I plopped those on the burger and added a healthy does of mustard. The patty was smashed down well and hanging an inch or more outside of the bun. It was tasty, although I would prefer a bit more seasoning on the beef, which could be added later by the salt in the condiment caddy. The bun did get a little moist quickly, and at 1/3 pound I didn't regret my choice to not order a side. I did sample half an onion ring which was crusted in breadcrumbs. There were tunes spinning on vinyl during our lunch and we were easily in and out in less than an hour. read more

We went on late on a Friday afternoon looking for something local. Archies popped up on Yelp and burgers sounded like a good option. I am so glad we decided to go. The place reminds me of a throwback diner from the 50's. Only missing a soda fountain, but you can get ice cream next door and can easily get there from inside. I ordered the Archie. It was huge. Nice burgers with the crispy caramelization on the edges that taste oh so good. It is a little messy (in a good way). A side of fries was plenty for two. Their beer selection surprised me and a nice cold hefe from the oldest brewery in the world, was just what the doctor ordered. While sitting at the bar, another group came in and sat a little further down. He asked what was good, she mentioned the bologna sandwich with an extra slice. I had almost gotten it, but had to try their burgers first. I asked the bartender if it was any good. She said it tastes like your childhood. If I'm ever back in the area, I think a bologna sandwich has my name on it. The staff was very nice and very accommodating. Definitely a place to check out. read more

Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday- me and two kids! Bartender greeted us and we had a seat at the bar. Menu is very brief so I ordered pretty quickly. Burger, fries, and onion rings were all very good. I would recommend the burger patties be slightly more salted but other than that great quality, messy burger. My only feedback would be to make smaller burger options for kids. I was with a 5 and 10 year old and the burgers, even when just meat and cheese, are messy to eat and huge in size. The 10 year old ate most of hers but the 5 year old ate only about a half. We did walk over to Scratch for milkshakes as well. The buildings are connected and you can walk right over but I wish you could order shakes with your food instead of getting up and purchasing separately. Great food. Will be back! read more

Overall would say about 4.5 stars. The place inside is a very cool diner style. The workers were nice and the food came very quick. My wife and I each ordered the Archie burger, shared a fry and a soda and the cost was $28 before tip. The size of the burger was insane! Taste was amazing, my wife definitely liked the onions on it. My only complaints were the bun and they don't ask how you want the meat cooked. The bun wasn't big enough for the meat and toppings and halfway through it ended up getting pretty soggy. I'm a little conflicted, but I'll give it 5-stars and let it move me later, if necessary. I was a firm 4 1/2! First, this area of West Allis has become one of my favorite places. Within a couple blocks there are some cool little shops/cafes, all within walking distance, that make it worth the lunch stop here, even if burgers aren't your thing. When you walk in, it has an old diner feeling to it. There's a bar that runs 2/3 of the shop, and then little bar tables along the opposing side. An opening toward the back leads to Scratch - Ice Cream shop, and it looked like you could sit on their side and enjoy burgers, as well. Unknowingly, we walked in 5-minutes before opening. An employee politely informed us that they didn't open for 5 minutes, so we stepped back outside. Odd...the door was open, but they were not. 5-minutes later, we were invited back in. We chose to sit at the bar and let me tell you the place filled up quick! If you sit at the bar, you order from your seat. The others lined up at a register on the far end of the bar. Place your order, receive your drinks and number, sit back down and wait. The menu is short and sweet! There are like 4 burger options, a sausage option, fries, onion rings, and drinks. The burgers are all "smash burgers" and some of the common toppings offered included cheese, PBR onions, lettuce, and tomato. I couldn't just do simple so I went for the namesake of the place, "The Archie." Two smashed burger patties, American cheese, PBR onions, shredded lettuce, tomato, and special sauce on a potato roll with pickles on the side. My wife ordered the same, my daughter got the "No. 1," a single patty with American cheese, also on the potato roll with pickles on the side. She asked for no PBR onions. Two of us got fries, one got onion rings. It didn't take long for our food to arrive, and they topped off our drinks a few times while we waited. When I said the place filled up fast, I meant it. Within 15 minutes of the doors opening, there was a line at the register that was at least 10 people deep and all of the seats in the shop were occupied. The burger........this wasn't a typical "smash burger." The patties were big and meaty, and seasoned/cooked perfect. The cheese complimented the burger well and the onions, lettuce, and tomato were fresh and tasty. The special sauce was good, i'd say similar to a "Big Mac" sauce from McDonald's. It went really well with "The Archie." The side of pickles, was 3 big pickle chips. They were tasty and a perfect side for the burger. Our one complaint....this burger is very messy and hard to eat without it completely falling apart! I was committed though, so I made it work. The potato roll was soft and didn't help keep the burger together. Maybe a bigger stronger roll would help?! Either way, complaint aside...super tasty burger, hands down!! Sides....the fries were crinkle cut fries, very well salted. We liked them. The came in a small cup. The onion rings, also came in a cup, and were thick and tasty themselves. When all was said and done, the damage was about $50, which is not bad at all for lunch for 3 these days. I can tell you this, had I not come early, and had to wait in line a long time, I'd probably not have enjoyed this as much. I also will probably come with a better plan to handle this burger next time. 5-stars, cool place in a neat area of West Allis. Great burgers, good sides, nice people, huge draw. We got our order and ate..and found out within seconds that this place serves THE BEST BURGERS IN THE CITY. -Perfect, lacy smash patties serves on a wonderfully soft potato bun that just soaks up all the juiciness. -Fresh lettuce/tomatoes that add a nice contract to the meatiness. -The PBR onions on the burger are SO MUCH better than regular onions. -Food is served perfectly hot, both the burger and the sides. -The house sauce served with the burgers and sides actually has a unique flavor that you won't find anywhere else in the city. First time at this restaurant and enjoyed it. I learned about this restaurant from an article in Milwaukee Magazine. It's a larger restaurant so there is plenty of room in the dining area, or sitting at the bar area is also an option. The service was good but our server was not overly friendly. I get it, it was starting to get busy, but I was a little put off by the almost annoyed attitude of the server. The food was good and the portion size was generous. One of the things I particularly like is beer was a drink option (for those who can legally drink of course ). So it is nice to have a "diner" style meal with a beer. The burgers are good sized and cooked well. The topping options are pretty standard as far as burgers go so mayo, ketchup, onions (which were raw not fried), pickles, etc. They are straight forward but no frills meaning you won't get avocado or pineapple. The restaurant offers in-house ice cream and is styled as a small old fashion ice cream counter. There was a nice selection, vegan options, and sold by weight. Overall I would go again. I went here because I seen it right here on Yelp!! The burgers are delicious. Fresh and smashed to perfection. They are hefty, so a double will definitely satisfy a hungry man/woman. All ingredients were fresh, veggies were crisp, and the onion rings were piping hot. Along with those, I ordered the double Archie, sauce on the side. I will be coming back for this delicious burger again. On a side note, they have a great beer selection!! I had a dunkel weissbeir, and that was a pleasant surprise to see in the cooler. Went in for a late lunch (1:30) on Sunday and the place was jumping. Got a seat at the bar and the seats were surprisingly comfortable, a rarity for a bar seat. The seats at the high top tables are only barstools without a back. There is a walkway through to the ice cream joint next door and they also serve seats there. It's noisy and the music adds to that, but it was not hard to have a conversation with the people next to me. I ordered the #1 (single burger with cheese) plus tomato and a side of onion rings. The fat pickle slices are served on the side. I recommend putting them on the burger. They add a bit of crunch, if not a lot of flavor. The smashburger was perfection. Run-down-your-arms juicy with good beef flavor and plenty of crisp crust at the edges. Can't wait to go back. Get you some! read more
