You can go with a traditional Smashburger, or choose the Duck Fat Burger, which isn't smashed and is cooked in duck fat. I've had both, and I think they're equally amazing. And, of course, you have to order a side of the double-fried French fries. Today's meal was excellent. My burger was cooked to a perfect medium, everything arrived hot, and it was packed with flavor on a lightly toasted bun. Paired with the crispy fries, it made for a terrific meal. The portions are generous, so I even had leftovers. The burger and fries reheated surprisingly well in the air fryer the next day. The service was personable and friendly, and the atmosphere is bright and comfortable, with plenty of room for small groups to enjoy a meal. I loved my dinner here at Wild Roots - great food, service, and ambiance. I made a reservation for our group of 5 a week or so in advance and we were seated right away. We shared the bulgogi meatballs, "chicken fried" tofu bites, and a Nasty Bits special they had that night - pate on toast with apricot jam. I loved all of them! We all loved the duck fat burger with fries, too. I was so full but our server packed up our leftovers and I had a great lunch the next day. Had dinner here while on vacation in West Allis, WI. I had the most incredible flank steak with roasted potatoes, grilled brussel sprouts and chimichurri. Stopped for lunch and was disappointed. The $19.00 salad was small and left me still hungry. The salad was tasty and the tofu bites in the salad were very tasty but only a few were added. Also it was mostly spinach could not find a lot of the bok choy. As tofu is the protein in the salad they need to add a bit more. The desert of a warm cookie was so dry it needed a lot more than a bit of whipped cream. In addition, the service was terrible. They had one waitress who spent most of her time taking to two clients she must have known. She actually never offered refills on our empty ice tea, we had to ask while she took our dessert order. My mom and I visited Wild Roots for Saturday brunch to celebrate a belated Mother's Day. We entered a relatively empty dining room around 11am and were seated right away. The space is cute and inviting, despite weird avocado walls. The flower vases on each table were accented with sweet little origami pieces. Decor was eclectic nature. Our service was solid without being intrusive. The menu is an interesting hybrid with Asian influences prominent in many dishes and many French touches. We started with cocktails. My mom's rum punch was good, but might have need a little extra punch, maybe more citrus. My Whiskey Roots was good - very Maker's forward. Somehow it managed to taste more like Makers than straight Maker's. My omelette was light and creamy and fluffy. It was truly enjoyable and very Parisian. The accompanying roast potatoes were seasoned well and didn't need any additional salt, which is amazing to me. My mother's Croque Madame special was a sight to behold - tall and impressive on the plate. She thought it was excellent. The ham was generous, perhaps even too much, and the sauce as cheesy and rich. The egg cooked perfectly, she really enjoyed her meal as well. Called on a busy Friday night and we were able to snag a 5:30pm reservation. Our server was great - knowledgeable and sweet. We had a tiny tin offer for a free app, so we started with the meatballs. Good flavor and nice start to the meal. I had a mixed drink and my friend appreciated the wine list. We both ordered the curry for our main dishes, mine with shrimp and hers with chicken. It's almost as if the chef believes assault will fix everything and after having the beef Wellington and getting the curry it was very much salt forward to a point where I couldn't eat it. Was most recently here for dinner and got the duck fat burger which was delicious- it reminded me of an elevated in n out burger in the best way possible. We also got the bulgogi meatballs to share which were amazing. Brunch has always been good too - try the day's pop tart special. I was finally able to make it in and ordered the duck fat burger with a side salad. I was confused when I started eating the salad and it tasted like it had been salted. It was really salty and it made it unpleasant to eat. The burger tasted fine, it was nothing special in my opinion. My friend ordered a side of fries that we shared and I did find those to be pretty good. She also ordered a noodle dish that was tasty, so I wouldn't write this place off as I would be open to trying something else. Service was a bit slow, it felt like the food wait was a bit long. Stopped at Wild Roots for lunch on a beautiful Friday afternoon towards the end of September. Wild Roots has a condensed menu, and the duck fat burger stands out. It might be the best burger in Milwaukee. It's certainly superior to the Oscar's and Sobelman's burgers. It makes ordering anything else off the menu difficult. While the restaurant wasn't crowded, the minimal staff had difficulty keeping up. In fact, our bartender might have been the only server. She worked her tail off. We sat for quite a while until the bartender came over to get our drink order as the wait staff was otherwise busy. I asked for her recommendation for a drink that wasn't sweet for my birthday and she suggested something. I tried it and found it too sweet so I went over to the bar to see if I could get something I felt would would be better and she rolled her eyes at me and condescendingly question my interpretation of what sweet was. I've not been treated that way in a long time so I took the drive back and went back back to my seat. She came over and apologized and I very nicely expressed my disappointment of how she conveyed herself. I get that being a bartender is stressful, but in my 39 years of ordering alcohol, I can count on one hand the number I of times I've been treated that way. Additionally, the noodles in the curry made that dish inedible. When I mentioned that to the waiter, she just asked if u needed something to take it home in. So I pad $111 for the 2 burgers my kids enjoyed. The wait staff is overworked, which i feel bad for, and the food not good. Wild Roots exceed my expectations. We were in the area looking to celebrate a birthday and found this gem. Service was top notch, they were super friendly and personable.
