We loved this restaurant so much that we ate here two nights in a row. A total of three pasta dishes and on pork dish (for the man, of course), and we agreed that all of them were fantastic. The Chianti was delicious, the service was good, and the atmosphere was lovely. I don't know if we will ever be in Rome again, but if we are, we would return to Gli Angeletti. read more

Outdoor seating is best for dinner, with the rope lighting above that gives you the ambiance for a romantic night. I had the best gnocchi here & lasagna was also delizioso. Great wine & great location to get gelato afterwards or some cocktails at sapphire just around the corner. read more

We are not certain why this little gem of a restaurant doesn't get more 5 star reviews. Our group of 6 stumbled upon this restaurant while walking through Rome. Up to this point, the food was not stellar in Rome. We were aware that Rome isn't the top place to find the best Italian food. There was a very small line, but the owner saw our group and waved us over to an outside table that was for 6. He was charming and went out of his way to make you enjoy the experience. The service was excellent and the food was deliciously surprising. If you like Risotto, the Risotto with black scorsone truffle in a cheese fondue was out of this world. The Gorgonzola stuffed gnocchi with butter and sage sauce was the best gnocchi we had in Italy, even compared to Florence. The lasagna was excellent and rich and one in our party got the non-meat lasagna and it was also good. You won't go wrong at this restaurant when it comes to food, ambiance and service. This little gem is near the colosseum on Dei Serpentine, so although not all out of tourist area, it's close. Bruschetta is good, just add a tad bit of salt and they bring you balsamic and olive oil. It would be good is they would roast the bread- it gets soggy quickly. The chicken risotto and the grilled pork were our choices and both were excellent. I order the Primi and hubs orders the secondi and we split as it's just too much food for full orders. We ordered a nice bottle of white wine at 20e so total bill was 58e. The place was super busy and the patio ambiance is so nice. No one rushed us and we appreciated that. There is a good mix of tourists and locals, so always a good sign. read more

Like others have said. It's hard to imagine why this place hasn't received a higher rating for its price point. We sat outside for lunch after visiting the Colosseum and the Forum. After exiting the Forum, there were many places that were attempting to get our business, but we kept walking. We stumbled upon this quaint restaurant by chance and were happy we did. We ordered the house wine (which was great) and the bruschetta as an appetizer. Following that, we both ordered different types of lasagna. The classic lasagna and the zucchini lasagna. The classic lasagna was the best, although both were delicious. We watched as others sat and ate everything off of their plates and even took bread to clean them! That's when you know the food is good. Across the street is a lovely small gelato place and so we skipped dessert. The service wasn't bad and the ambiance was terrific. We would highly recommend this to anyone leaving the colosseum or the forum or anyone generally in the area. We'll be back again! read more

Not sure why this is rated so low. It seems like a decent place. The lasagna was 3-4 stars at best, but the Octopus was 10+ stars. By far the best Octopus I've had in Italy, and definitely the best "bisg" chunks (as opposed to baby) of Octopus I've ever had. The texture was amazing. Also, the truffle Risotto was very tasty. read more

When I first got there I was waiting in line but is was a very short wait as the manager sat us down outside. He was very friendly and kind. The owner of the restaurant took our ordered and started a conversation. He also was so very nice and had a great sense of humor. The food was so delicious and fresh. The food was the best Italian restaurant since we came to Rome! The ambience and the house wine was so deliciloso! I had the seafood appetizer that had octopus salad, seafood salad, zucchini wrapped fish and salmon! My husband had a lasagna to die for (not tomato sauce). On a previous evening, we walked around the neighborhood, and saw a square buzzing with life, and mostly Italian life. We decided to return to eat for where many people are enjoying themselves, good food follows. Of the half dozen restaurants in this area, we chose one at random - Gil Angeletti. No pizza here, but pasta a plenty. The menu is in Italian only, so I opted for the best option - asking the staff for their favorites. We started with prosciutto and buffalo mozeralla, which is something that is hard to screw up and a good, well executed appetizer. For the main course, I had spagetti salsiccia e Limon - sausage and lemon. I was surprised at the taste here. It was simply amazing, we finished with two ricotta cakes - one pumpkin and one orange and chilis. The pumpkin one was nice enough, even though I am not a fan of pumpkin. The orange and chili's one will be one I will try and recreate because it was so good. Staff were a pleasure to talk to when they were around. They were just not around enough, which dragged the meal out. However, this was a really good and enjoyable evening. read more

My wife and I ate here with our 10 month old, her parents from South Carolina, and her brother with the finest of taste. Needless to say, there were a lot of different palates (and moods) to please, and we're happy to report, they were! My wife had risotto funghi, and I had a penne pomodori with capers and olives - without question 5 stars on the food quality and presentation. Our daughter could eat the risotto and bread they brought, and our caprese salad app was simple and classic. We drank coke and water, but around the table we had a gin and tonic, beer, and house white, all of which were excellent. Service was prompt despite a busy Friday night at prime time, and the outdoor lighting and seating was the perfect ambiance for our sweet daughter who likes to proclaim how much sh Wilkes her food. Would definitely be open to going back when we come back to visit this lovely, walkable, universally outdoor-museum of a city! read more

Go anywhere else. The ambiance is nice but staff were incredibly rude for no reason. We went for spritz and bruschetta at 6:30 (a respectable apperetivo time). All tables were empty when we arrived and he still scoffed at us for not having a reservation. He reluctantly sat us and when the woman came to take our order she looked over our heads to tell the host that we only ordered three drinks and an appetizer and they scoffed again and laughed. We then had very slow service despite being the only guests. After they took our dishes away it took another 20 minutes to get the check after eventually finding a staff member and asking them for it. Also tables barely were filling up an hour later at 7:30 when we left and we were charged a fee for the bread that we didn't ask for. read more

Lovely spot in Monti for dinner! My husband and I went here for dinner and got an indoor table near the open windows. I ordered the carbonara and he got the bolognese. Our food came out fairly quickly and it was delicious. I had yet to order a carbonara in Rome and was looking forward to it. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was rich and salty. We also ordered a pitcher of red house wine for about 10 euros. Great deal and nice wine! For dessert we chose the panna cotta with raspberries. We went here after visiting Colloseum and Roman Forum, roughly a 10 min walk away. We had different types of pastas and all of them were good. As starters we had bruschetta, which was very nice. The wine was good, too. Prices are ok, so nothing bad to say about this place. Not a fancy place either, but you get good Italian food here. read more

This is exactly the kind of restaurant that makes you happy to subscribe to my blog! Nice terrace ... and then it's all! The waiter is like a bear with sore head. After many courtesies, I managed to snatch a smile at the end of the meal. Miracle! It is true that the Vatican is next door. Mix platter of antipasti without any interest, pasta "meh", al dente but it's nothing at all, duck breast with Marsala and mustard poorly done. A bit of technique? When making a wine sauce base, reduce it to at least 2/3 to remove the acidity. Further, when you add mustard (something a little slightly acid!), it's disaster. Cooking the duck medium rare may have counterbalance.At the end, when you do not know how to thicken a sauce... As for the desserts, it is amazing to find dish of such consistency (in France, we call that a "stiffling for Christians") close to the Holy See. Be happy, I just saved you 59 euros. Wine in a carafe because in the bottle, your banker calls you panicked. read more

We just stumbled upon this place. The menu looked good, they had outside seating, and we were hungry, so we gave it a shot. The stuff we ordered was delicious and the prices were moderate. For 65 euros, we had: * Bruschetta and sausage appetizer--one good-sized bruschetta, nicely seasoned. But it came out with a BUCKET of different salamis. * Grilled veggies--zucchini, green and red peppers, radicchio, eggplant * Spaghetti alla carbonara x 2 * Spaghetti con pomodoro * Spaghetti con calcio e pepe * Glass of house wine * Mineral water All the entrees were good, but the pasta with the calcio e pepe was the best of them. Veggies gave a good balance to the pasta. But the bucket of salamis was what really amazed us. The waitress brought out a little cutting board and knife; we just got to carve off what we wanted to eat. There was a huge variety: thin, thick, soft, spicy, mild, etc. We had to stop ourselves so we'd still be hungry when the pasta came. No problem there, it was delicious. The house wine was really good, and inexpensive. Service was friendly and good...just a very long wait between appetizer and pasta courses. Of course, that could just have been a culture thing for a bunch of high-strung Minnesotans in Rome. read more

Located in Monti, just about 10 minutes walking from the Colosseum, this restaurant has a lovely decor both inside and out. No patio heaters, unfortunately, so be careful during the winter. As with many of the other reviews, the service is atrocious. Being a tourist, I generally ask the host/server for tips on the best dishes pertaining to my diet/culinary interests. Here, the server roughly gave me 2-3 options just saying "yeah, they're good." They provide you with some bread, olive oil & balsamic vinegar when you start your meal as well. I ordered the asparagus risotto & a beer, which was roughly 15 and 5 euro, respectively. The risotto was really good and the beer was a beer. If I'm back in the area, I wouldn't go back just because of the bad service. read more

The restaurant itself is nice and quaint in a good location. We sat on the outside terrace, and the service was pretty decent. But that's where the pros end. This was the first time we had bland, boring food in Italy (mind you, we had already been in Italy for a week). I ordered the Pasta Arrabiata. It wasn't garlicky or spicy. After enjoying a great couple of days in Rome and Frascati we were very disappointed in this restaurant. I don't recall having worse service...I kept trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but it didn't get better. Not sure if it was the fact that he didn't like we ordered limoncello spritz (vs the standard aperol) or that we were vegan and asked for no cheese on the salad but he seemed very annoyed and avoided us after that initial order. We had to get up and ask for wine after our spritz were gone and to order more food after the initial bruschetta we started with. They bring you bread and charge you for it whether you want it or not, minor, but with everything else it just added to the annoyance. The final straw was when we left a bag under the table and came back for it they held it behind the bar and did not want to give it back but when we did we received an obscene gesture in front of all the guests. Basket of salami was a fun surprise. They give you a basket full of various salami and you pick and cut whatever or as much as you want. The idea of all the other patron touched those salami disgust me but or well when in Rome, right? Burrata on polenta was not impressive. Pasta and chicken in tomato sauce we're good. The people work at the restaurant smoke inside of their kitchen time to time so it smell quite bad. That happened in other restaurants through out our trip so I guess that is some what common in Italy? Over all this place was okay. read more

This place is the bob.com! The asparagus risotto and chicken carbonara are not only affordable, but scrumptious and perfectly seasoned! The bread they gave us was a bit stale and flavorless, but the pasta made up for it. I had the scampi risotto and it was a bit bland, my cousin had the salmon and gorgonzola lasagna(i thought it was delicious, but it was on the fishy side if you don't like that). Our waiter was a hilarious older Italian man who was so sweet and kind! Also, the house wine is 10 euro a JUG(1L) and the house white wine was delicious! It was semi-sweet and carbonated(like a sweeter presence). Afterward, they gave us limonciello shots for digestive! In summary, highly recommend this resturant! read more

I had read online that they had terrible service and sometimes profile their customers but I know that can change depending on the day. So I tried it out. Well... they do 100% have terrible service and profile their guests. I am a solo female traveler and they sat me down, offered me no bread and butter like all the other tables. When I asked for water they gave it to me in a little plastic bottle while every other table had a nice glass bottle of chilled water. They basically paid as little attention to me as possible. We first visited Gli Angeletti 14 years ago, when this part of Monti had not been discovered by the tourists. It had excellent food then, friendly service, and a lovely location off to the side of the Piazza della Madonna dei Monti, with outside tables. It quickly became our regular place. We returned this week - and had a great lunch and great dinner! Every selection was good, and there are several stars on the menu - the starter of polenta, truffles and soft cheese and the creme caramel for dessert are two. The service is Italian, with its own rhythm, and most there are related to each other and are wonderful people, charming and delightful. We ended our meals with the traditional digestifs and excellent coffee. Despite tourists having discovered the area and this restaurant, we will visit every time we visit Rome. read more

Ahhhhh!!! My first time in Rome and we stumbled upon this place while trying to kill some time before we had to leave. I wanted to try the pasta at this place. The only problem was that I wasn't too hungry. This scenario was my worst nightmare. I went against my gut and ordered pasta (spaghetti with red sauce) anyway. I convinced my husband prior to ordering that he would have to have some pasta since there was no way I could finish it. Long story short: he got one forkful of pasta because I ate the rest of it.... Our table also ordered wine. It was super affordable (9 euros for a liter). Restrooms are clean and staff is friendly. read more

This is more of a locals spot. If you come for dinner make sure to call ahead. Food is delicious and fresh. The staff is super nice especially if you know them. If you don't speak Italian they have some waiters that can try to help you. read more
