This review is not for the smog check services but for the actual gas station itself. I decided to leave a review after I found out that I looked forward to getting gas from this Arco Gas Station. Here's why I love this gas station: - brand new gas pumps - usually best prices on the street for gas (.35 cent debit card fee) but still worth it - always playing old school Frank Sinatra tunes, which makes the whole experience super relaxing to me. - no super loud and distracting TV monitors - they don't try and sell you a car wash. Keep in mind that the station is cash or debit card, they do not accept credit cards. It can get busy so that usually makes a trip to the gas station frustrating when all 8 pumps are being used, so I go at night to listen to some music and put gas in my car peacefully! read more

This place has very high prices and owner justifies it by saying "this is my business and I can charge what I want". For Example: I have an older truck that needed to be smogged. For trucks 1995 and older you need to have an EVAP test and smog test done as well so it's a little more involved. Anyways he wanted to charge $128 for the smog and EVAP test I called around and found that most other smog places in Camarillo that do the same test and charge $70. They tried to charge $58 more for their service. Owner said it costs that much because it takes a lot longer and that today he was busy so I guess his prices fluctuate on how busy they are. Also, he has one mechanic juggling the whole shop that is well past his prime and they want to charge by time? I'm surprised this place is in business based on the way they conduct it! Pay at the pump, or indoors, where you might find yourself tempted with ample variety of snacks, ice-cream, cool and hot drinks. You can pump your gas as you reminisce listening to delightful songs from a by-gone era that play through their sounds system. Attendant is friendly. While there, empty your trash, wipe-down your windows, or move your car over and vacuum it out or fill a tire if it's low on air. read more

Talking to me like I was stupid, aggressive tone, I took my keys out of the ignition to hand them over to the man and he snapped "okay, now why are you taking the keys out, how am I supposed to drive your car up?" In a very rude/aggressive tone. I let him know that I was taking them out just to hand them to him, asked him to calm down and he swiped the keys from my hand. The worst smog check station in Camarillo. Do not go to this place. There is a reason why they have to offer coupons to get you there. I brought my car in for a smog. The guy spent 5 minutes literally and said my car didn't have enough data since it was recently reset for an oil change. He told me to come back in a couple days to complete it. I did and he told me I had to pay another $40 to finish the original check. I refused and brought it to a much more trustworthy smog station, Camarillo Independent were it passed with no problem. At the Diamond Bar gas station the attendant took my money & refused to let me pump my gas. It took three trips & a threat to call the police before this would be thief let me have the gas I paid for. Perhaps he though I was an easy mark because I am 75 & handicapped. read more

I used the pump right outside the office and the display wasn't working. I stopped the pump and went in and told the clerk. Someone else said he was rude - I agree. He blew me off. So stupidly I tried it again this time I Cheri see if the #s reset - they didn't. So I went in and told the clerk he said it was my fault. Went to get my car smog and it failed ... the mechanic was nice and told me to come back in a few days since I just got my car fixed which turned off the check engine light so I had to drive my car around more. (But from reading reviews looks like they would have charged me more anyway) I told them I don't live in the area and I'm unfortunately on unemployment right now (by the way I had 4 interview this week so fingers crossed!) and asked if they could give me any kind of discount because they were charging me the full 60 dollars. The guy with the curly hair that works nights it's extremely rude!! I pumped my gas and then I was sitting there in my car for about 10 minutes looking up directions and mind you their was only 1 other person there pumping gas and he came up to me with a attitude pretty much telling me I need to leave cause I'm blocking the pump so people can't get gas. Now i would totally understand if it was during the day and they were busy but their was no one there!! I hope who ever runs that place gets rid of him! Here is the main reason why I am writing this review: In the past they have been great. However, I took my small truck in today (It is a GMC Canyon) and boy how things have changed! Three primary issues that I ran into this morning: First issue: Even though I had a $29 coupon and I knew there would be about an $8 certificate charge, the attendant wrote $39 on the bill plus the $8 certificate fee ($10 more than advertised). I questioned him on this. He immediately got mad, raised his voice and spoke very condescendingly to me. His argument was that it was an SUV and it wasn't, then he changed to "because it is a truck". "If it were a "car" he said, then it would be $29 as he pointed over to a Mercedes Benz sedan. I asked for an explanation, because 1. the vehicles are all tested the same (Just reading the computer's OBD codes and no further testing) 2. the car he used in the example had a much larger engine (8 cyl.) and my little truck has only a 4 cyl. engine. He had no explanation but to shout "if you don't like it you can take it elsewhere". I did let him know that I would take the inspection, but this would be my last time with them. Second issue: There was this lady that was there ahead of me who brought in her GMC Terrain who also had the same coupon. He told her that her coupon was no good and that the price for her SUV was $79 for the smog check. She look at me and asked if that should reasonable (she recently lost her husband and has never had to take care of vehicle matters). Ironically her Terrain is not a full sized SUV and it has the same drivetrain as may truck! I mentioned to her that it is the same test as on all cars unless they run into an issue with the computer codes. So the attendant said he would reduce her bill to about $50. ($20 of that charge because she had an SUV!). What a scam! Third issue: The shop is incredibly disorganized and is a safety hazard. There are car parts, old brake pads and rotors all over the floor. Why does this matter? Because they are having the customers navigate through this mess to go to the front cashier to pay for the inspections. (I guess the concept of liability is also lacking!) Conclusion: I am no longer using the ARCO in Camarillo for any of my business whether it be for gas or Smog tests. The only positive thing I can say is that the cashier in the front was friendly and thanked me for my business (I went ahead and had the smog check done since I was pressed for time). I guess they are not fully understanding the principle of treating customers decently and fairly. I really felt bad for the sweet lady that I met, they could have been kinder to her also. She is a senior citizen and deserves some respect. If any of you out there knows of a "watchdog group" who monitors such abuse, please let me know. Also, if any of you work for ARCO in Camarillo or has friends or family that do, please help them to see that their deceptive advertising and pricing methods in the Smog Inspection department has not only cost them business, but will continue to do so. (They may want to invest some time and money on educating their personnel on how to speak to customers!) In the end ARCO: my words are "You may have gained an extra $10 from me today, but you have lost my trust and business! So in the long run you have lost much, much more ". I would have rated them "0" stars or lower, however "1" is the lowest Yelp allows! read more

DO NOT DO GET A SMOG CHECK HERE. VERY FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY AND VERY HOSTILE MANAGER. My Daughter attends college in Camarillo. Considering I live out of town I asked her to price out smog checks to renew her tags. Stopping at Arco the manager handed her a paper to sign before he could provide her a quote. Then proceeded to tell her the smog would be 80.00. She called another place that told her 40.00. The man then stated okay 68.00 my daughter informed him no thank you the other place is 40.00. Then he told her she could not have her car unless she paid 80,00 because he already completed the smog check. All the while she was texting me back and forth from the time she arrived. Then my daughter called me as she went to step out to place her call as she was scared, the man was yelling very loudly at her. The man prevented her from exiting and poked her in the back telling her to go back in. I informed her call the police. I called and spoke with the manager who was hollering in the phone. I informed him what he was doing was not only fraud as he performed work when he knew she only wanted a quote. He stated she signed the paper therefore work gets done. I have no idea what she signed as she has never taken her even for an oil change herself. The police showed up the man then charged 30.00 as I just wanted her out of there and the police spoke with the man informing him touching a customer is illegal. Alot of respect that man had for a customer much less a woman. The man was warned however I suggest do not go to this company as they obviously are not a trustworthy company. Also I was informed from another Arco that this facility is a privately owned business. UNFORTUNATELY MY DAUGHTER DID NOT READ THE REVIEWS ON THIS ESTABLISHMENT. The gentleman with the long curly black hair was very unprofessional and gave rude looks when I went to pay for gas, because I apparently interrupted his smoke break that I'm pretty sure he wasn't supposed to take cuz he was the only worker there and he made that more clear that he wasn't supposed to be taking this break, because he hid by his car so cameras would see him. After he finished he rudely demanded that I move from where I was parked because I took a second to straighten up my car Only because there was no-one else there, his reason was so other people could have a chance to pump gas. I just had a smog check here. This is where I get my gas and always use my debit card. When I went to pay they told me their machine only takes credit cards and not debit. I told him to run it through the gas station side and he wouldn't. I asked to speak to the owner. When I did he said everyone has a credit card and called me a liar. I said I don't and he is being rude to a paying customer. Than he continued yelling at me on the phone and told me to shut up and not talk back to him. Don't EVER go here for service!! I went to get an oil change per their coupon on Money Mailer. I have an SUV so was prepared to pay "extra" per the coupon. When I presented the coupon, the manager became SOO NASTY, BELIGERANT AND DISSRESPECFUL!!! He raised his voice at me and said because my SUV took so much more oil and a different oil filter, the coupon was no good. He tore it up in front of me and threw it away! The lady that I am, simply walked away, paid full price, and will never ever go back there again!! There was no reason for him to treat me the way he did. Clearly he doesn't need the business.
