Yeah, this place is not good. Certainly they have low prices, but you pay the difference in hassles. Jammed with cars, it's nigh impossible to get to a pump. Once you finally do, the real ordeal begins. After five -- count them, five -- unsuccessful attempts to give this Arco station money, I gave up and went across the street. This Arco declined one bank card, two different credit/debit cards, and even refused my cash ($10s & $20s only). Across the street at the 76 station, they easily took the very same cards (using credit, granted) and I filled up my tank. I would not go here again. Ever. read more

The only reason I give this station one star is the cheap gas. Other than that, this place sucks. I don't mind the atm fee, but the atms never work. It's asks if you want to be charged (or something like that) and I press the yes, button. Then, it decides to cancel my transaction. WTF? I pressed yes. So I try again. This time it accepts my yes push and asks me to enter my pin. I do this, press enter then the screen goes blank and comes back on and asks me to enter my pin again. This happens almost every time I go there. Well, I've had it with this station. They can't keep the equipment working right and when you tell the attendant about the faulty equipment they look at you with the "I don't care" attitude. When I first notice this carwash was cloth I was using it every week and sometimes more. Until one day they switch the cloth on the passanger side to rubber. When this happen It snapped my driverside mirror and made several scratches along the driverside door. I was told the Manager will call me the next day. Weeks went by no calls from the Manager. I called the Corporate office and still no reply. I will have to spend my time in Court over a carwash when a phone call may have resloved this issue. BEWARE!!!!!. read more

Cheapest gas on the Peninsula, usually, which results in total bedlam most of the day and night. Cars are jammed in here in a crazy quilt pattern of angling for a turn at the pumps. You have to go to a single ATM like machine to prepay your gas, the card swiper is not built into the pumps themselves, which is a pain. They have a carwash too but if you want to buy a carwash coupon you have to go to the little store to buy it, you can't use the stupid machine for that. read more

Ok i dont go to this place but I am posting to make it clear to all the people saying cheap gas is good. Cheap gas burns off faster than good gas, therefor costing you more money. They do you no favor by selling horrible quality gas. If you think otherwise you deserve to have your car break down on you because the way you treat it. Arco is quite possibly the worst gas station in the entire bay area but yet it stays open because people dont take 2 minutes to understand what they are doing to their cars. Go ahead, blow your motor on the freeway and crash. Who cares right?! Go ahead and ruin a car that you will be stuck in debt on for the next 3-5 years. No big deal eh? Stopped giving them my business since their debit card readers often reject your card and I never carry cash nor do I want to. The set up is also total bs and complete chaos. Cheapest gas on the peninsula = usually waiting in line. That's fine. They often don't have squeegees to clean your windshield, but considering this Arco is often 40 cents/gallon cheaper than the Arco at 101 & Ralston (Belmont) I'll put up with that, too. read more

Well I have no other way to rate this place. I'd give it a 5 for the price alone, typically 20 cents cheaper than anywhere else. BUT the one thing is that you have to pay debit or cash, for some reason they don't accept credit cards. Find that odd but I will continue coming here for the cheap gas alone. read more

Cheapest gas in San Mateo that I know! Arco is cheap but between this Arco and the Arco in downtown San Mateo this one is cheaper by a couple cents plus they have a car wash. Car washes range from 5.00 for the cheapest up to 7.00. For all Arco stations, you have to pay in cash or debit card because they don't accept any type of credit card. If you want to save 45 cents, pay in cash to avoid the surcharge on your debit card. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. I went in this morning to get a print out for a smog check I had done a few months ago. The guy in the service station was incredibly rude. Told me to hurry up, that I was wasting his time, and was completely obnoxious. He couldn't find my car in his system, so he accused me of lying about using their shop. I will NEVER go here again. I finally gave up on these penny pinching bozos. Yes, they often provide the cheapest gas in San Mateo, but I'm fed up with their run-around whenever a vacuum, car wash or car wipe machine dysfunctions. They will do whatever they can to avoid refunding just a friggin dollar to this (once) loyal customer. I am more than happy to pay a few cents more per gallon somewhere else than give my money to these ruthless inhuman robots. This is about the cheapest gas you will find in the area. The only bad thing is it is mad house sometimes trying to get gas; you have to come at late night. It is big and can handle a lot of people, but not enough during day light hours. This Arco is way cheaper than the Belmont Arco by at least 50 cents per gallon. The Redwood City Arco off Whipple has lots of beggars asking for gas money. This the best place for gas other than going to Hayward Arco. read more

to the reviewers complaining about the surcharge: i don't understand why anyone would complain about the surcharge for using debit cards. you guys do realize that there's a transaction fee charged to the seller for every single card swipe, right? this station is doing us a favor by passing on the savings of a cash transaction. most stations (ie, the shell and 76 stations across the street) don't let you do that and just charge you either way. at the end of the day, this place offers the cheapest gas in the bay. and if you're seriously going to complain about a 40 cent surcharge, then you are the definition of pathetic. read more

On Monday I bought $56 worth of gas using my debit card. On Tuesday, while checking my banking I saw that arco took out the $56 as well as $100. I spoke to my bank and arco will release the $100 back to my account on Friday. Apparently they did this in case my $56 wasn't there? Obviously the money was or my bank wouldn't have approved my payment. Having $100 taken out without you realizing can really screw things up. read more

If I could give this place 0stars I would. A new employee (Nyi) who could barely speak English attaches my credit card to the wrong pump after I repeated my pump 3 times. I asked to call the owner for 10minutes before they finally agreed the owner then said he had to watch the camera. I said okay when can I meet u and he gave me the redo lupus hours of 5am-8am. Are u kidding me. I'm a working women with a 5yr old. I use to go there once a week and if I could stop their business completely I would. Worst customer service ever. I have contacted my bank and reported this so they can help me reverse the charge. I would never put this gas in my car. Yes, it's cheap, but NOT good enough for my car. The people who work there are super rude and always on the phone and not paying attention to the pumps. The only reason I even came there was because I had a rental and needed to return it with a full tank. I do not like that you have to pay for the gas at a terminal rather than at the pump itself. For some reason it charged me 35 cents for the transaction itself. I will NEVER go there again. What made me irritated was that they had an issue with the pump I was trying to use and the guy was acting like it was my problem. He stayed on the phone and was basically giving me directions so he could reset the pump. He made me feel like an idiot pointing out that I needed to take the pump out of the car and start over again. I told him I wasn't an idiot and knew what it meant that he needed to restart it. Never. I came to this station once a week for two years and put up the long lines, etc, because gas was cheaper than elsewhere and attendants were friendly. Unfortunately, I just had an issue with one of their pumps (I did not get the gas I paid for, and to prove it I went to the Exxon across the street to pump the same amount I supposedly had gotten at Arco) and was treated very badly by the attendant despite showing both receipts within minutes of each other showing a combined amount of gas that my tank could not possibly hold. No refund was given and no explanation. Called the manager "Eric" the following day and again zero customer service, no offer to make it right, just some vague reference to calling the county's weights and measures department and ARCO headquarters. read more

Yes, this place will charge you a fee of $0.45 or so to use your debit car; some ARCO stations make it so difficult for you to use a card that you have to pay in cash; sometimes the stations are broken; and it's usually crowded...BUT my car seems to get twice the mileage out of ARCO gas, than from other big name gas stations. On a full tank of gas, say from Chevron, I pay an arm and a leg for a weeks worth of driving to work. On a full tank of ARCO gas, I can drive to work for a week, do some weekend traveling, still have gas to take me through a few days the following week, and pay significantly less. Word to the wise, Stay away from this car wash. These people run an old machine that seems to be aggressive on your vehicle. It is suggested you close your mirrors before you run the car in the car wash. We did exactly that. During the car wash, the mirrors flipped open from the sheer force of the machine and one of the mirror cover for our Prius came off. I came immediately back to beginning once it was done to look for the cover, nowhere to be found. The people working there speak broken English and can barely communicate, only to say "they will try their best". I came the next day after they told me they will look through the machine to try and locate the part their own machine removed from my vehicle. They could not find the part. I spoke to "the manager" Eric about this issue, and his answer was, "your car is too old, unless it's a brand new car, one day old, it can happen". They will not take responsibility to your vehicle, hence I suggest you take your vehicle elsewhere. Buyer beware! read more
