Sunny (the owner and chief mechanic) has fixed several issues with my BMW 328 x drive He has become my absolute Go- To mechanic for any problems I have, large or small with my car. The prices are very fair and the service quality is unmatched. He will send you photos of your old vehicle parts and show you the old parts that were removed, the new parts added and explain how the problem occurred. Although he is a popular mechanic in the area, he will get work started on your car quickly and will often have it finished within 24 hours (depending on issue). Work done on my car: air pumps replaced, gaskets replaced, coolant line, all break pads replaced, tires replaced, brake sensors replaced, engine fan, alternator. I drive my car hard and put extra pressure on the valves and gaskets so I need a good mechanic that is honest and is there whether I need him and I found that with Sunny. I have recommended him to several close friends and know they will be in good hands. Great guy and has a good team- highest recommendation. 11/10 read more

Growing up in the service industry - my folks owned a small gas station and motel - customer service wasn't just a buzzword, it was survival. Having worked plenty of thankless jobs myself, I make it a point to be patient with service workers. Lord knows there are enough jerks in the world without me adding to the collection. Since semi-relocating to the Bay Area, I've been a regular at this Shell station, usually just grabbing water, snacks, or lottery tickets for my electric vehicle pit stops. The same young man typically works the counter - no small talk, all business, which honestly I respect. He always seemed a bit checked out, but hey, maybe he's cramming for finals or dealing with life's curveballs. We've all been there. This last visit, however, crossed a line that even my service industry empathy couldn't overlook. I came in carrying my toddler (as parents do), made my usual polite transaction, and my son even handed over the cash for lottery tickets like the helpful little guy he is. After checking my old tickets and finding no winners, I politely asked if he'd mind tossing them for me. Standard request, hands full with a kid, no big deal. Or so I thought. Instead of his usual silent treatment, this time he angrily snapped that he "doesn't throw trash away" and I should do it myself. When I noted that my hands were literally full with my son, he rudely pointed to a tiny trash can behind me and repeated his stance on not handling "people's trash." The attitude shift was so jarring that it became clear this wasn't about job duties - this was personal animosity toward me, my kid, or both. Whatever chip he's carrying on his shoulder, he decided to make it our problem. I made a point of suggesting he reconsider his manners, to which he replied "whatever" with all the charm of a DMV clerk having a bad decade. Look, I get it - service jobs can grind you down. But when you're actively hostile to a customer with a toddler over disposing of a lottery ticket, you've officially lost the plot. My family won't be contributing to this particular establishment's bottom line anymore. Sometimes the service industry tests your patience. Sometimes it reveals character. "Shell- Laurelwood" is the Shell Gas Station at the Laurelwood Shopping Center. It's address is 1400 West Hillsdale Blvd, and it's located near Hwy 92 & West Hillsdale in San Mateo. This station has a prime location right next to the freeway, and on a major street. The last time I was there, the gas prices were above average at well over $5.00/ gal. Features: - small snack shop - multiple service/repair bays - right next to freeway I'm leaving a positive review because they took the time to fix my flat tire. Nowadays, alot of places don't fix flats. Other places you have to make an appt or leave the tire overnight. No, this place fixed my tire and I was on my way. Negs: high gas prices, and snack shop with limited items. Good news, you're next to a shopping center with lots of food choices. read more

Drove from Sac to SFO to drop ppl off a few nights ago and as soon as i park in the garage, tire sensor starts going off that i am slowly losing air. Every shop is closed, all roadside assistances will only tow to tire location which again are all closed. I had to go back that night. We find this one open but by the time a tow arrives, they too will close. I called them and told me to put in some air and drive over if possible. I still had some air in the tires so i Drove my car very, very slowly there and fixed it promptly. Thanks so much for friendly service, a job well done and being so available! read more

This review is meant to be informative and deliver value. Please form your own opinion, but this was my recent experience. I give this business the defaulted required, 1 star. My car broke down twice after being repair here. The first time, my car broke down after 7 days from being repaired by Shell. Then after that, once more. Each time, I was advised it was another problem that was not detected in the prior diagnosis. My car would stop in busy streets as a result of the negligent repairs. This was both very dangerous and scary for me. The worst part was when I brought my car to another shop for a second opinion, they found water in the coolant tank, the described my car as "totally gutted." The repairs from Shell never fixed the issue with my car. In fact, it made my car worst. The Shell mechanic was extremely defensive when I asked for more information about the work that was done by him. He denied my claims even though he had worked on my car twice with no success. The repairs in total cost $1200. After a heated conversation, I was refunded $150. The repairs done by him did not fix my car, and even though my car broke down twice, he refused to work with me. He blamed my car for being old. He changed his diagnosis of my car in the conversation more than once. He even told me to "take him to court" to avoid discussing the issue. It's so disappointing that businesses would lie and cheat customers. During this pandemic, it has been so challenging to stay employed and earn a paycheck. I will not recommend this business to anyone because they are dishonest and unreliable. read more

The owner is so incredibly nice. He has worked on our cars multiple times and done a great job at an extremely reasonable price. I own a Tesla and he checked my tires thoroughly because they were making a weird noise....all at no charge. I'm so grateful to have this business in our neighborhood!! read more

We have been taking our car here for years and were really sad to see the old service team go. They were honest, competent, and kept our cars in good working order. I recently had an issue and decided to give the new guys a try. They checked my fluid levels and noticed they were low. They added fluid but were concerned that there seemed to be an air bubble. When I told them I had a long drive to make the next day, they told me to come in before I left to make sure everything had worked itself out. I did, and all was fine. No charge. I'm so relieved to know that I still have honest, reliable mechanics in the neighborhood. read more

Had a slow leak in my tire for past week and suspected a puncture. I called the manager, Alfredo, and asked if he could see me sometime today. He said "we can see you anytime" so I drove directly to the shop and was greeted immediately by him and the tire guy, Sal. Sal had the wheel off in about 1 minute and the offending screw was dug out of my tire and a rubber plug inserted in the hole, all in about 10 minutes! I was back on the road within 20 minutes of arrival...for $30 that's a deal! Had a similar problem about 10 years previously (long before Yelp) and they were just as good then as now. read more

My 2017 Hyundai said I had low air pressure in my right front tire. Took it to this Shell and by god the sensor was right! We asked Alfredo who was working there and he was able to yank the nail out, place a patch, refill it with air and check ALL the other tires in 15 minutes!!! Cost $30 which is pretty reasonable. Alfredo was very professional, calm and informative. It's great to know that there's a fantastic mechanic in the Laurelwood area!! read more
