We came on a Saturday and it was about 80° outside, so it was busy but not overwhelmingly busy! This place is pretty much all about ice cream and milkshakes, but they do make burgers and dogs and sandwiches. The service was very fast and we ordered about $80 worth of food for five people and received everything within 10 minutes. The customer service is very good and pretty much run by young people behind the counter under the age of 25. The atmosphere is a drive up and you go order inside in a small room, and then you sit outside and eat at the picnic benches with the insects, or are you eating in your car in front of the drive-in. It's a small place and there's no bathrooms to go And relieve yourself. There is a bathroom next-door at the mini golf center. My experience, there was very fun and enjoyable, and the ceiling was not super comfortable, but it was sufficient, and it's just a fun little place where they make all the food to order and while you're waiting and it's fresh. The portions are small, but the prices are not too high. My overall experience today was about a nine out of 10. read more

Staff is young and efficient, not always the friendliest but adequate service. The place looks a little old but it's been there for a long time so I think that's to be expected. There were three staff members there when we arrived on a Thursday afternoon and they were all friendly. Both inside and outside of the establishment was clean. My son is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. The staff members made sure to properly handle my sons food and ice cream. We've been coming to Arctic Circle for over 20 years and we've never been let down. For a quick bite after a round of miniature golf, this is a great place to visit. Nostalgia! I had to make an unplanned trip to Churchville this week, and I promised myself I wouldn't leave until I stopped by the Arctic Circle. This retro hamburger/ice cream stand has been around probably as long I have. When I was six, a small, soft-serve waffle cone was ten cents! Yesterday, it was $2.30, but it was still wonderful. They have the classics--vanilla, chocolate and "twist," and you can also get it dipped or get a flurry with toppings mixed in. My teen-aged self would tell you that their burgers are great, but my much-older self has no idea how they are now. Still, this place is definitely worth the trip! read more

The food was eh, Ice cream is always good but what got me today was the owner. I was with a group of about 20 Jeeps, all who ordered lunch before doing a surprise birthday drive by of a 2 year old. After we all ordered, and we're getting ready to go the owner pulled into the place and came out screaming about how we "overwhelmed the kids working" and "are taking up the parking." Never have I heard an owner complain about too much business? No one was complaining about the lines. I would have thought having extra business on a rainy day would have been a good thing. It truly saddens me to give 3 stars because their ice cream is so tasty....but yelpers are about the whole experience right..ABSOLUTELY!! Let's start by saying I went here twice in one weekend...for the ice cream so yes their soft serve ice cream is delicious!! My second visit I did order some food as well. Their setup is basically outside is for ordering ice cream and the inside is food and ice cream. So on my second visit when I went in to order food, I literally stood after a couple ordered for a good 2 minutes. Yes there were employees that was looking at me but didn't come up and then finally the guy came back and asked what would I like. I ordered a cheeseburger add pickles and some French fries with a oreo milkshake. (My total was about $8) As I am watching the activity in the kitchen their stars are diminishing. Since they are all teenagers they were acting according to their age but they need to realize that's not appropriate for a business. They were holding conversation while drinking their milkshake, or tapping eachother, one girl even took some containers filled with cloudy water (assuming from the boiler) and passed through the inside and then when she walked back into the kitchen and put the containers down...didn't wash her hands...gross. None of the grill personnel were wearing gloves. It really turned me off because I hadn't seen them wash their hands and with them touching so many things and the food is just a health inspectors nightmare...shoot better yet give a Germ-a-phobic person a heart attack. (Hopefully not make anyone sick) Once I received my food and proceed to eat, let me just say the burger was alright...not something I would recommend or get unless I was really hungry. Now the French fries were perfectly crisp and were so enjoyable!! The milkshake was so delicious!! I would definitely get the milkshake again but I am looking forward to trying the flurries next time! All in all the ice cream was the highlight. The prices are decent so not to much to complain about. They also have seating but it's very limited. There is a putt-putt golf course next door so you can eat and play. (Great date night idea) First and foremost the employees need to be spoken to about work etiquette, and y'all have to wash your hands and use gloves. I don't know how they haven't been in hot water for this before this. So if y'all can improve some of these things I will definitely bump up the star rating due to having such amazing ice cream! read more

We have been going here over 50 years. The management has changed over the years , but I drive from Bel Air or Darlington just to get an ice cream and on occasion I might get two on a hot day. They offer toppings for the cones. The food is of perfect side for the average person with good prices. I started going steady with my wife of 44 years in 1978. We just like to return their to remember the earlier times including bringing our children here. This is a family spot & teen hang out, but the management handles any issues promptly. read more

Our first time here. We got a large Pepsi, 1/2 of a cheesesteak sub, a chili dog, onion rings, and a hot fudge sundae with sprinkles - all for $20.22, including extra fixings on the chili dog and sub. The cheesesteak was tasty but barely had any cheese, and needed more meat. The chili dog: the hot dog was old and small, the chili was actually just ground beef, and it was so wet, the bottom was completely open. We got cheese added. Unfortunately, nearly the cheese stuck to the paper that covered it. I wouldn't order the chili dog again. The onion rings were great, but could've used a little salt. The ice cream was outstanding! You can't eat inside. There are a couple of picnic tables outside. I've read the other reviews. Yes, a teenager waited on me, but I had excellent service and was treated well. They take credit cards, but don't accept Discover or American Express. We'll be back - probably just for ice cream and onion rings. There's cute looking mini-golf next to it. read more

Great milkshakes! This is an old fashioned drive-in that opened in the 1950s and has retained its charm and very straightfoward menu style of ice cream, shakes, sundaes, burgers, subs and fries. I've only ever had their pineapple milkshake because it's so good that I don't feel I need to try anything else, but they have many flavors to choose from. I've also had a cheeseburger and it was very tasty. Great place to stop in on a summer evening. read more

This place isn't bad. It's a busy old school drive in usually run by teenagers with what looks like little to no mature oversight. I love the ice cream. Don't get me wrong, it's not unique and you could probably go other places and get the same thing. I just think the nostalgic atmosphere and people watching make it a premium spot. My major hang up with this place is the outright rudeness and passive aggressive behavior displayed by some of the employees towards the customers. I notice it only gets worse closer to closing time. I believe some of the staff sees you as an annoying barrier to them cleaning up to leave rather than a customer spending money at their workplace. Not to mention, the overwhelming time I leave a tip, I never hear a thank you. They just cash out, put it in their tip cup and move on as though it was an expectation. Last night, same thing. Cashed out, in the tip jar. No thank you, screw you, boo...nothing. Then the young lady who brought my ice creams to the window slammed them on the counter one by one as she brought them over. Wouldn't make eye contact. Just poor customer service. I'm not asking for anyone to kiss my ____, but if I'm bypassing others to spend money at your establishment, at least try to make me feel welcomed. I get it. I worked in this type of environment as a teenager was well. Dealing with the public can be frustrating & irritating at times. I love this place with all of my heart. The curly fries are the most amazing thing you will ever eat. The chocolate milkshakes are the most amazing thing you will ever drink. We love this place and have been coming here for years. If you want dessert, it's really the place to go. However, our recent trip there was a disappointment to say the least. Many of the areas behind the counter were not clean...dirty rags on top of dirty buckets of water in the sink. People were moving between duties, touching their faces, money not washing hands. The person working the grill did not have gloves on and was running her fingers through her hair between flipping burgers. The guy who took money was fixing the ice cream order, taking money touching food without washing his hands...again no gloves. I get what this establishment is and that it usually employs teenagers but it definitely needs to follow proper procedures for food handling.
