I went into the shop because I had won baby back ribs on a Facebook post. The shop is located down a gravel/dirt road and I believe they process meat products on site. The processing area is open to the shop, so be prepared for a strong smell when you arrive or go inside. Inside the store they have a lot of meat products already wrapped ready to go, and a case where you can pick what you want. There are other local products like meat sticks to purchase. It can be pricy but I think it's healthier than what is sold in stores. Staff were nice and knowledgeable. They offer meat packages and said they would be willing to trade out products (like pork) for a similar product they sell. read more

These are by far the best steaks you can purchase within at least 50 miles. Prove me wrong and I'll try your recommendation. When you go to a "fancy"steakhouse, and drop $100+ on steak, Bowmans is the level of quality they use, so grill it yourself and save $60-70 and buy a nice bottle of bourbon or wine to go with it. The cuts are thicker, 1 1/2 - 2inches so be mindful if you're grilling them for the first time, they may end up being rarer then your usual. Other things to check out: they carry local eggs, exotic meats (alligator, elk, etc), and they have their own beer/venison seasoning thats actually pretty good. Better than Montreal. Other notes: They have amazing service here, they'll let you look at the cuts and bring you other ones from the back room if you don't like what they have on display. Not a fan on their sausages, the texture is good but the taste is a bit bland. I'm open to suggestions on how to improve cooking them. Some people think it smells weird in here. Dropped my deer off on December 6th. Did get a call asking what cuts I'd like. I've called over 10 times over the past two and half months. While calls have been friendly, I've NEVER been able to speak directly with the "girl that does the deer". Multiple messages have been left on her "urgent" pile. On all calls, they have been able to locate my paperwork and tell me things that verify they had me in the system, and still no call backs. We're pushing 3 months. That shouldn't be normal. POOR service from the deer department. Not sure I want the meat at this point. read more

I have two raw fed dogs at home that I try to find affordable meat for. I walked into this place with low hopes seeing if they had off cuts to offer me at a good price. I was blown away by Alice's customer service and knowledge on raw feeding. Not only did she offer off cuts but also premium cuts for dogs at a fantastic price. She gave me a whole sheet on dog food prices and cuts by lb, made homemade dog treats using organs and simple ingredients, and even offered me some uncut bully sticks or "pizzle" sticks as they called them a at an extremely great price. She even had the option for premade bags made to order so you wouldn't have to cut or deal with any of the meat yourself at home. Have been looking for a good butcher ever since I moved to Md from Texas, This is not the place. There is NO display counter, There is a VERY small selection that it seems they take out of other peoples orders. I walked in and was quickly greeted but when I asked where the display counter was I was looked at as if I was an idiot. I was taken back into the processing room and shown the cows hanging in the back cooler and told that most people pre-order or bring cows for butchering. I was offered some steak from someone elses order, New York strip if I remember correctly. One of the butchers was smoking as he wrapped meat. Avoid at all costs. Came in before Christmas while visiting a friend nearby. Not a "Walk in and browse" kind of place. Meats aren't really on display for you to see and look over. I got the feeling from the employees that they prefer to deal in bulk. When I said I was only cooking for 4 ppl, the mood shifted to one of getting me out quickly. Questions about steaks that may have easily been available were answered with one or two words. Getting the feeling that I was imposing, I just asked for a few pounds of lean, good quality, ground beef. Paid appropriate costs. What I was given was a wrapped item from a walking ashtray. (Freshly scented. Smoking while working over MY meat?) The quality of the meat was not very high, especially for what I paid. Was it at least lean? Nope. Good thing I precooked the beef so I could drain off the fat. Twice. read more

I love this family owned butcher shop, the people are friendly and our really proud of there product.this place is clean and has no smell like some other places. I find that their prices are competitive with the grocery store and 1,000 times better. I recommend trying the dry aged beef. Also the chicken is amazing. Dont give them your deer, I turned my deer in during general firearms season in early December, 6 weeks ago they said my skull cap was ready but not my deer, go back this week and they cant find my deer. So you are probably my deer or someone elses deer, plus I never got a voucher for the deer I donated to hunters for the homeless. They are convenient for us in Harford county but just go across the bridge. Absolutely horrible! They have been sued for letting beef hang and rot. We took steer there... had absolutely know idea what was our beef and what was not. Had to call repeatedly to get an answer and no one calls you back. Finally after months of waiting... we just showed up and they had no idea what was ours.. only gave us a quarter and it was not even packaged well.. a lot of blood. We are out about $1200.00 and we still haven't heard from anyone. Please stay away!!! read more

I've been to this butcher on a few occasions. I also use another butcher near my work that is a little more convenient and a bit more accommodating. The briskets I get here are fantastic for smoking. The ground beef was O.K. Last time I wanted to purchase some cubed sirloin and chuck roast for a beef stew. I ordered 6 lbs. When I called in the order, they said they won't cube the beef. Isn't that what a butcher does?? Cut meat to order?? That's why you get three stars. Good product, not so good service. My other butcher I use custom grinds and seasons what ever size burger I want and prepackages them in freezer wrap at no additional cost. THAT is what a butcher does. read more

There are some issues with this place. Their display counter is almost non existent. But they covered that by going in the back and pulling steaks for me to look at Ribeye's! They even offered to cut some fresh if I wanted them thicker, but the ones I was shown were fine. They have a huge selection of stuff you're not going to find many other places. If you're looking for an amazing steak and in the area, this will quickly become your go to shop. It is very expensive, but you're getting what you're paying for. Were have been getting all of our meat here for several years. The meat (with the exception of exotic items) all comes from our local farmers. I like knowing there are no artificial preservatives or hormones, and that I'm helping our local farmers who I also get my vegetables from regularly. The beef is dry aged and absolutely delicious. Alice and the entire staff always do a great job designing packages for me based on what I'd like to spend. I always get a great variety of beef, chicken and pork. They usually run great specials, too. They post those on Facebook, so I run in and get extra items in between my big orders based in specials I like. read more

I dropped 6 deer off to Bowman's over the hunting season. The first was dropped off 10/5/2019 and the last 1/10/2020. I then waited 2 months for the first deer. After repeated calls, I eventually went there in person and was able to pick up 1 deer. They promised me that my other deer and sausage would be ready that Monday (I went on a Saturday) and they would call. Several weeks went by and no calls. I called a few times and was able to pick up another ground deer, a couple venison bologna sticks, and hotdogs. They said I would receive a call soon regarding the remainder of the ground deer and sausage. (2 full deer and 2 partial were left). Today is 2/26/2020 and I have never received a call about the deer. I also gave the ground meat to a friend and he informed me that it had a very strong smell so he had to feed it to his dogs. The bologna sticks were also moldy when I received them. On one of my trips to Bowman's, one of the ladies behind the counter did tell me that my 18 pound deer would be ready shortly. None of the deer were under 100 pounds. I know the difference between a deer and a cat. She also informed me that "she couldn't help me" regarding the sausage and remainder of the deer. So, as a result of all this, I do not recommend Bowman's. read more

Great product, very friendly staff, and lots of variety to choose from. With only a little notice they can get you whatever cut you want or thaw out your meat. I've gotten a full brisket, a couple boston butts(shoulder), ribs, bacon, wild boar bacon, scrapple, and many variety's of sausage (elk, rabbit, wild boar, duck, and pork). They vacuum sealed everything so it's nice and clean for your fridge or freezer. I've smoked it, grilled it , baked it, put it sauces, and used it many other ways. All I can say is the everything I've made with their meat has come out perfect and delicious. I live in Parkville and it is worth the 25 minute drive for me every time. Also, I plan on getting my fresh turkey there for Thanksgiving they have natural, pasture raise local turkeys for the cheapest per lb I can find around. read more

One of hubby's co-workers often brings us bones for our golden retriever from here so as soon as I spied a Deal Here coupon for the place I scooped right up on it. After lunch lunch in Parkton we decided to take a drive to Churchville to check the place out and arrived around 3pm. The store is located behind a house and can be a bit confusing at first, just follow the signs. Sadly they were out of dog/soup bones and also the beef lung treats but we didn't want to leave empty handed since the place is a bit of a drive from our house in Rosedale. I initially was gonna get 2 Porterhouse steaks but quickly changed my mind when I was told the total - $58 - for that price they better be served to me straight off the grill and accompanied by a baked potato and salad. We ended up getting a couple of packs of the fresh maple breakfast sausage, scrapple, bacon, fresh eggs and a beef stick for our golden retriever. Sunday we were stuck in the house because of the snow so we had a nice brunch - everything was absolutely delicious so we will probably stop back if we're in the area to get some more of that sausage in particular and hopefully we can get some of those bones our golden loves. read more

Just the right distance away to go looking for a butcher shop. I grabbed a pork butt to smoke up and it was very well crafted, not too much fat on it. I plan on returning for some dry aged beef soon. They have some exotic meats like ostrich and buffalo, I may try one of those too. Overall, I will return. read more

I used to think this place was the spot to go to; but I highly suggest that you reconsider giving them your business. I have given them my business time after time and have been patient and understanding of the small business circumstances. I have been to the shop for many odds and ends to pick up for dinner that night and so on but also for bigger purchases, the younger girl with the tattoos at the front counter is always sweet and compassionate. She understands my needs but is also able to make suggestions to me based on what I like; she made sure I wanted to come back for something new. I have run into others that didnt feel as knowledgeable or as patient with us. I also have overheard what used to be the head butcher, the tall guy, that he did not need this certain farmers business; I did not get a sense of customer loyalty. There has been a rotating staff, only maybe three that have been there for any length of time, those three were all very pleasant and helpful; helping me with my boxes, or answering any cooking suggestions. I have brought deer to be processed, bought half cows, and pork from Bowmans. There has not been any consistency lately. My beef is supposed to be dry aged for 21 days; I had to wait over 30. When I finally got my order I had to go back for my chip steak, liver, and my ground beef was not the 90% lean they promised. I dont think it was even 70%lean, I ended up getting two cups of fat from 1 pound of my ground beef. Some of the packages were bloody and when I unpacked the boxes some of my roasts and ground beef were not fully frozen. They have also had to "clean the front case" quite often to the point the case is completely shut down; honestly that worries me about the the larger units, do they get shut down "for cleaning" too? If so, how is that affecting the quality of my meat with temperature fluctuation that I would assume comes with any big unit shut down. Yes there has been major improvements with this company, from the boxes that are now provided with my order, to the helpful staff, to the appearance of the whole property. But with the inconsistencies that Bowmans has been having with their product, the blatant disrespect of an existing customer in front of other customers not to mention the odor that is now returning (after the heat of summer when it had no smell at all); I have no other choice but to take my business to another business that has more customer appreciation as a whole and makes me feel more confident about the products regularity. read more

In the interest of full disclosure, I discovered Bowman's when my company became their refrigeration service company. I am now a happy customer of theirs. Tonight is taco night at my house featuring ground beef of better quality than I have had for some time. The weekend special package deals are a good value. As someone who sees the whole operation I am impressed with all the upgrading of the operation from the buildings to the systems we deal with. The energy of the current "generation" and their passion for doing things just so is a pleasure to see.
