I tried the lamb skewers, roasted cauliflower, pretzel with cheese & mustard, & fried mushrooms. Well-seasoned & cool, unique choices of dishes to try with the wine. Everything was really good.

Great variety of wines, but the food wasn't a great value. The wines are all $2 off a glass during happy hour (ends at 6pm), so definitely take advantage of that! The cava was delicious and while the orange wine wasn't for me, I did appreciate having an opportunity to try something new. As for the food, everything comes in very small portion sizes. While they all tasted fine, it wasn't worth the price. The cheese/charcuterie board was $24 for 3 and the cheese came in one small slice each.

The lamb skewers were $16 for 2, and while they were good, they had 3 chunks of lamb each. The duck banh mi ($15) was actually more like a breadstick made into a sandwich. Their patio does seem like a cozy spot for a nice day. Service...

I had several small plates: Deviled eggs, which were pretty good, but could have used a little more seasoning Spinach and cheese croquettes, which were super hot, but again, maybe a little more seasoning. I am left wondering what...

the chorizo croquettes would have tasted like. Maybe a little more zing? I had the flank steak. Again, seasoning. But cooked as requested and appropriately. I had the ricotta crostini, not my thing. And the portobello fries. I'm not sure what I thought this dish would be--I was thinking of fresh mushrooms, but given the name, I should have had the common sense that it would be fried mushrooms. Just not my thing. Both of those are a me thing, not a them thing. The cocktails weren't bad, but didn't leave a strong impression on me. I had the Mr. Sandman, the Desert Heat, and Smoke & Violets. Again, I bet if I had just had wine and cheese (both of those menus looked great), I would have had a better/optimal experience. This spot also has some salads and a few other small plate options. Please don't let my food experience sway you away from this place. Again, I think my taste profile is just different than most, and I should have made different choices. The service and the vibes are awesome and it's close to a few theaters--New York City Center and MCC--so would be a great option for before or after the show. Thanks to Mandy and the whole team. I will definitely come back and try the wine and cheese!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Ardesia Wine Bar delivers on so many levels--great wine, stellar small plates, and a cozy, welcoming vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Almost everything about our evening was on point... except for one tiny moment of unnecessary attitude that kept this from being a perfect experience. We started with a bottle of French Pinot Noir, which was absolutely lovely--smooth, balanced, and everything you'd want from a night out in Manhattan. Our server was a dream: knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive without hovering. You could tell they actually cared about making sure we enjoyed our evening, and their recommendations were spot-on. bravas especially deserve a shoutout--crispy, flavorful, and downright addictive. For dessert, we indulged in the apple galette and ice cream sandwiches. Both were perfection--simple yet elevated, and the perfect sweet ending to a fantastic meal. So why not 5 stars? As we were leaving, the table busser/food runner decided to channel his inner Broadway diva. He said goodbye, and I politely replied, "Thank you, good night!"--only to be rewarded with a full-on eye roll. I mean, what's that about? Did my pleasant manners offend her? I'll never know, but I did spent several years in the fine dining service industry so I understand that folks can develop involuntary reactions to guests, and I'm about extending grace to folks because nobody is perfect, especially me. But it was the one sour note at the finish line of an otherwise perfect evening. All in all, Ardesia is a gem, and I'd absolutely go back for the wine, food, and service--just maybe with some side-eye protection next time.

I wrote into Tom Sietsma specifically to find out where we should go a little off the beaten path after Hamilton. He said that this is his one of his favorite tucked away places where we could find small plates and a great wine list. We were not disappointed. From the beginning, we had quick service from the host and a fabulous experience with our server. I asked about a specific French wine that I knew was out of season and I was pretty sure wouldn't be available. He instead introduced me to a Polish wine that had an extremely similar flavor profile and we both enjoyed the bottle very much. Do yourself a favor and try the croquettes - all of the flavors. We also had a fantastic charcuterie board, and I was surprised to find out that I like salted caramel sauce with cheese! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Top to bottom from ambience to food to wine, not to be missed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Met some friends here for drinks and bites. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Took a bit of effort to find the wine bar as the signage was not prominent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There is a happy hour offered, and we tried a craft beer and Prosecco from that list, and found them quite suitable. We ordered an assortment of cheeses. Though the portions were small, the flavors were extraordinary and they came with delicious bread. An autumn salad with lots of fresh ingredients followed. Shrimp skewers concluded our meal. The shrimps were tasty with a gentle smoky flavor. Unfortunately, they were a bit on the small side. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service was friendly and prompt and seating was comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, we were very satisfied with their visit. This seems to be a lovely choice if you live in this neighborhood. However, it is a good walk from Broadway shows.

I had the great fortune of attending a reservation-only Chef Event across the street at Dot's (also owned by Ardesia). The owner of Ardesia teamed up with Chef Patti Jackson of the now closed, Delaware and Hudson restaurant. Chef Jackson has her own loyal following of groupies, but I think she picked up a few newbies after debuting her talents with the Ardesia crowd! They presented a 4-course Prix Fixe meal that was served with such love and great thoughtfulness. NOTE: these items are not available at Ardesia (or anywhere else). I'm posting this experience so that you'll be sure to get on the Ardesia mailing list and be alerted to their next collab event. Take a look at these photos. There were at least 5 other plates of goodies served, but we were too busy eating to stop and take photos!! Sorry not sorry.

stopped by ardesia for a much needed happy hour - and was pleasantly surprised that they were offering their happy hour menu and they had a frozen Friday deal! - $12 frozen espresso martinis! these definitely weren't the most beautiful drink in town, but they packed a punch while still leading with that deep chocolatey espresso taste - before I even got to the espresso martini, I started with their spritz. cappelletti now has a place in my heart. it is basically Aperol but with a vanilla twist and it's literally double the alcohol percentage. - [[HIGHLIGHT]]the inside of this spot is so cute and definitely ideal for a moment with the girls or date night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] our server was the sweetest lady and put up with all of our shenanigans. - we split some of their happy hour pretzels and the tacos. the two dollar tacos are perfect bite-size snacks and the pretzels are so good but for four dollars they're literally two bites....love the cheese dip.

They have a great selection by the glass and bottle! Came for a cute night with the girls and definitely will be back!

Came here to grab a drink and light bites before a show. Was lucky there was room at the bar, but they do take reservations. Indoor and outdoor seating. Definitely ask for wine and beer recommendations. I ordered the mini pork tacos and beet salad. Both were good. As someone else mentioned, this is a nice place to bring friends for conversations. Only drawback is that the mood lighting at night inside can be rather dark. Otherwise I would come here again.

Went here for a cute date night and this place was such a vibe. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Really cute and cozy atmosphere and the servers were so polite and friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We got a couple of glasses of red wine and the cheese for 2 appetizer. They give you a quarter block of cheese with a layer of milk chocolate, some bread, jam and chocolate crackers. This was nice, but in retrospect I would have created my own charcuterie board with cheeses of my choice. I wasn't a huge fan of the milk chocolate layer in my cheese. Overall, really nice experience and ideal for a date night or a small group of friends.

Ardesia is a cozy wine bar and small bites spot located directly across from the MCC theater. We had super friendly servers who offered to help navigate the large drink list. They have orange wine here which I guess is like a rosé. It was too out of my comfort zone, so I got a vermentino. Our group of four shared some of the small plates. The portobello fries were delicious and probably my favorite. The pretzels were large, homemade, and came with two sauces; a slightly spicy mustard and a cheese that was more of a spread than a dipping consistency. The spinach and cheese croquettes were tasty but the smallest size out of the things we ordered. Food and drinks came out quickly and we were able to make our show in plenty of time. We did make a reservation ahead of time to ensure we could get in and out.

I want everyone to know I started out with a four star rating (I'll explain later, but as I wrote this, I knew I couldn't give less than five, so I came back and upped it). Five stars service and vibe. FOR SURE. First of all, staff here is amazing. In addition to my amazing servers, Noah of which was one, Mandy the owner helped me a lot through email. I tried to book through Resy, but like many locations, you can't book for one (I'm often traveling solo). So I sent a casual email checking on the kitchen hours (I was coming from the theater and knew I would want food). Mandy replied with my answer, asked if I would like to reserve, and I said YES! And she set me up. Mandy was very communicative and helpful. The staff on site were attentive. The Hell's Kitchen vibes are immaculate. I'm not queer, but love queer spaces because they accept everyone as who they are--like most of New York. No one here cares what you're dressed like, or if you're soaked from the monsoon outside. The lighting is low and soft and seating is comfortable. They have a velvet couch vibe going on. Some things you must know about me: one, I eat out so much and sample so many cuisines, I am a huge fan of Indian food and spicy food. So I think my flavor threshold is not the same as the average person. Two, I have now twice made the mistake of not ordering wine and cheese in a place that specializes in wine and cheese. I order cocktails and plates or entrees, and I think that gives me a suboptimal experience that doesn't fit who I am and what I prefer. This is more of a tapas style place and a cheese and wine place. Solid spot for drinks and a quick bite. The smaller plates and charcuterie board are worth a try here if you want food. I recommend trying the pretzels as well as the cauliflower here. A lot of the people around us were sipping cocktails but it's namesake proves it has an extensive list to find what you'd want for wine. NOTE: by the glass options felt very limited but the bottle options made up for it. Huge plus is they are willing to let you cork and take your bottle with you if you cannot finish. Some of the seating feels fairly cramped for the style of table and seating used but doesn't fully take away from enjoying yourself. Bar area and high tops seemed to have a more typical bar vibe that day (possibly happy hour- post work crowd) while the main seating area felt more intimate.

Perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine and feel safe! Their outdoor space is perfectly situated on a quiet street in Manhattan. The three of us arrived on Saturday night at 9:30pm and did not have any issue getting a corner table. I had the frose, which was the perfect way to cool down from the hot summer heat. My friend wanted something off the menu and they were able to make her a Negroni. Staff were wearing masks and everyone there practiced social distancing. Just don't come here as a group! read more

Ardesia was the first restaurant that I dined at after having moved to NY and I'd say it was a lovely introduction to the city. I loved the intimate and charming ambience which is perfect for a date night or catching up with the girls. I had the portobello fries, lamb skewers, and the bruschetta all of which was delicious down to the last bite. Although the taste was great, I was expecting the portions to be slightly larger at its price point but it definitely doesn't deter me from returning in the future. The staff was friendly, the service was fast, and the food was on point. Worth a visit :) read more

Ardesia is a small intimate wine bar along 52nd St specializing in wine (lol) and small plates. The roasted cauliflower ($10) was good, but I've definitely had better and the charcuterie board ($34) was amazing but slightly overpriced in my opinion. We were a bit overwhelmed by all the choices of cheese and meats, which we didn't know the first thing about so the waitress offered to put a slate together of what she thought were the best options, which was extremely kind and helpful. I would definitely make reservations online since this place gets packed. The main downside to Ardesia is that it is tiny so you can expect to be seated shoulder to shoulder to the tables next to you and hear their entire conversation (& vice versa), but all in all it was a good experience. read more

This place is fantastic! They really want you to understand wines and are not pretentious (their menu is educational!). The staff are all super nice and it's a woman-owned business. The food is delicious. Try the fresh soft baked pretzels and in winter don't sleep on the soup. read more

Delicious and upscale. We love how the entire staff worked so seamlessly together and we're flexible. I tried the orange wine from Lisbon and highly recommend it if you've never tried orange wine. For appetizers, we tried the ricotta tostinis, lamb skewers, marinated olives, pretzels, chorizo croquettas, and pulled pork sliders. I recommend *all* of them, they were that good. Great atmosphere. I can't wait to return with some friends for a happy hour! read more

This place is so cozy and so cute! Came here on NYE for dinner and it was so nicely decorated for 2020 that it was even more inviting and welcoming than I first expected. Food: - Croquettes were DELICIOUS! My favorite of the hot food we got - Homemade NY Pretzels: a little too chewy and crunchy if you don't eat them while they're fresh - Goat cheese.. not my favorite, wish I got a different cheese to be honest - Salami was my favorite charcuterie! Super flavorful - Saucisson Sec was too mushy in texture for my liking The red wine we got was quite flavorful! I do wish the service was a little bit faster, but other than that I'd still give this place a 4/5 star, particularly for the presentation of the food and the ambiance of the place. It's been quite a while since I had tapas, so when I was asked to choose between this place and a Mexican restaurant half a block away, I chose this place, and I regret it. We shared the Roasted Cauliflower, Portobello Fries, Duck Banh Mi, and some cheese and charcuterie. Nothing stood out - mediocre at best. I guess the fries were decent but I also love mushrooms so much that it's very hard to mess them up for me. Even the cocktail was forgettable, literally - I can't recall which one I got even after looking up the menu, on which there are only four cocktails; it was that forgettable. What did leave an impression on me was the service. It was unfriendly to say the least. Not sure what's with the tension and odd vibes. It's a shame because the restaurant itself was quite beautiful. Maybe we came at an off night, but I won't be returning to find out. Last time I experienced a bad service that warranted two stars was at FedEx. read more

This is a super cute spot for date night or catching up with friends. There is outdoor and indoor seating available; we couldn't get a reservation but I called and the hostess was super sweet and said they had availability for our party of five at the bar or outside. We walked over and decided to sit inside at the bar (especially since there's A/C). You have to fill out an online contact tracing form and get your temp checked before coming in. The vibes inside are really cozy--think candles in the dark. The noise levels were on the louder side, but not too bad! We were comfortable sitting at the bar; side note the placemats are really nice quality. We ordered a ton of apps and sandwiches to share. Note that if you're trying to have a proper dinner, this place is more so for small bites (I mean, you could order a lot of food though). I loved every dish we got -- the burrata, the portobello fries, the fried cod, blue fin dip, and sandwiches. I didn't try the wine but got a cocktail instead, which was stroooong (Smoke & Violets). read more

I came here with a couple friends to just grab drinks and some snacks. The ambience of the place was great, definitely what you would expect out of a wine bar. The service was decent. Our server was friendly but he tried to memorize our drinks without writing anything down and ended up getting my friend who ordered a non alcoholic IPA the alcoholic version. That was definitely not great. In terms of drinks, I got the HK Crusher which was recommended as a sweet cocktail. I thought it tasted fine but it was definitely more sour than sweet. Another friend got an orange wine which I thought tasted interesting. Not my kind of drink, but it wasn't too bad. For food we ordered Shishito Peppers and a Charcuterie board. Both were good but nothing special. We were quite surprised by how small the portion sizes were for the charcuterie board though. In terms of value, I don't think this place is a great choice. The drinks are pricey and food is quite overpriced for the quality. read more

Loved this spot. It's so cute and charming. Fantastic wine bar. Well set up for COVID. Their outdoor dining space is super cute. The food isn't overly expensive. The staff is amazing. The service was great and fairly fast. It's in a quiet area, so you're not constantly bombarded by the sounds of cars. The food: Chorizo Croquettes - these were so good. you only get two, but you could always order more. they're a great size and just so delicious. Soft Pretzels - came with cheese and mustard, such good pretzels. you can tell their handmade Spiced Lamb Skewers - these were delicious and came with a mint sauce, great flavor, and well executed Chicken Liver Pate - it's just so good...and make sure to ask for more toast Buratta - you'll need more toast for this too. one of the best burattas around TLDR: all of the food is so good! the staff was fantastic. the service was great. the atmosphere was great and very charming. read more

Impeccable vibes to start - in the evenings, cozy, low light atmosphere with plenty of tables and bar seating. The wine list is extensive and staff are happy to give their best recommendations. Cocktail menu has a nice selection too. Small plates are available - I had the roasted beet salad and the mushroom fries and both were outstanding. Great way to kick off an evening out! read more

I've been here twice in the past week because of the perfect mix of ambiance and amazing food! I recommend making reservations for the lounge, it is very cozy and makes for the perfect date spot! All of the small plates I have tried have been amazing - butternut squash crostini, burrata, chorizo croquettes, mozzarella and bacon jam sandwich, and the cheese and charcuterie selection are all amazing! Of course the wines are quite nice, I tried a bottle of the Prosecco and a glass of the brut, but the beer and cocktail selection is great as well. I will note that the hot toddy was not as strong as I had hoped for, yet still had balanced flavor. I will definitely keep coming back here! This place is super cute, they have a nice outside patio area and the inside bar is just as beautiful- their bar has high tops & they also have a more formal seating area with great ambiance... overall an awesome vibe. All of the staff were super friendly to everyone, just made for an enjoyable experience! Nice spot for a rainy day! Went here for the selection of wine. The atmosphere is low light, low music, and enough space for you to chill and hang out. They have a coat check option which is really nice and a place to store your umbrellas. A wine bar that offers Happy Hour $2 discounted from the bill before 7 pm. I opted for one cheese and one meat. Great wine bar with excellent light bites and a really lovely outdoor space. I visited with a friend and everything we ordered was great (grilled shrimp skewers, carrot salad, ricotta crostini). Their bread is and they were really generous in bringing out more. I didn't get a drink, but had a sip of my friends cocktail and thought it was good. Service was great and our waiter was really friendly ( / didn't get annoyed at me even though I still hadn't looked at the menu after his third drop in ). The outdoor space is also just really fantastic. It's on a quiet street and not many people pass by either, so it's a really pleasant experience. Don't sleep on this place!! Such a great wine spot - we love it. During the pandemic I discovered orange wine and they're one of the few spots that I can go to and enjoy a range of orange wines that are really good. I would probably not recommend eating dinner here as they have a tight selection - which is fine and why i think it's the perfect date spot. Something to nibble on like a charcute board with a couple of glasses of wine - perfect night! It does get packed in the summer, well the winter too, but we always manage to find space at the bar. Nice wine bar in meatpacking area. Dark, not too loud, and intimate. The seating area is a bit close so you will be seating pretty close to other people (for those who are very wary because of CoVID, this may be a turn off factor). Great wine selection - especially by the glass ! We got the garlic shrimp skewers and New York style pretzels. The pretzels were delicious, but the shrimp was a little over cooked and chewy. It was really loud the night we went and made the mistake of sitting in the lounge. I'd highly recommend sitting closer to the bar if you're trying to have a conversation with someone. 1. Crazy expensive. Plate of cold cuts and cheese: $40. That and my 2 glasses of white wine came to nearly $100. 2. Knowledgeable and super-helpful staff. Our waiter Rhys was a god in waiter's clothing. "You want something a little sweeter? A little drier? Something more hardy on the tongue?" The hostess, too, went out of her way to accommodate us. One of my favorite local wine bars, located on 52nd Street between 10th and 11th Ave. I love the variety of quality wines here and how some seasonal wines like prosecco has real rose petals in it for a flavor kick, giving it a nice summery feel. The food here is also pretty good, although the portions are small for its value. So far, I have had croquettes, deviled eggs, garlic shrimp skewers, quail egg toast, roasted brussels sprouts, spiced lamb skewers, seared flank steak, and pulled pork sliders, and they are all on point. You definitely cannot go wrong with them. They actually have one of the most flavorful roasted brussels sprouts in the neighborhood for those who are health conscious. Great service and beautiful ambience. Plenty of seating inside and outside. The outdoor seating during warmer weather evenings are just beautiful. Definitely recommended. read more

What a joke! My friend and I went to this place for Drinks and a snack. We ordered two glasses of really good red wines and the slate platter. The wines were good but the slate platter what a joke! Two tiny pieces of cheese, couple of slices of Salumi and caned string beans with potato chips. The slate for three is more like for one! The bill came up to $60 for this crap! I met up with an old coworker of mine here for a little catch up over wine and cheese. I've seen this place pop up on Yelp before but it's just a little too out of my way. If you live in the neighborhood though then this is a great spot for you. They have happy hour specials, a great wine selection, good food, and there is outdoor seating during warm weather. We shared a few things including the burrata and roasted cauliflowers. The cauliflowers took me by surprise. I mean, really, they are the most unassuming vegetable and nobody ever loves cauliflowers. I'm so glad my gf found this place, I loved the ambiance and the food/wine and the service was excellent. The place itself is dimly lit, with candles on all the tables. It's a intimate and cozy space, with a nice bar front and center and small tables on the outskirts of the bar. Perfect place for a date, or a girls night out like we had. We sat down and immediately ordered an excellent bottle of sparkling from France. They have a fantastic wine menu, both by the glass and by the bottle with prices that are very reasonable. For dinner we snagged the mixed olives, artichoke & crab dip, roasted cauliflower and beet salad. Everything was excellent. The artichoke and crab dip was my favorite, it was served in a hot skillet with toasted bread on the side. So much cheese, yum! The roasted cauliflower came with panko-gremolata and was so good, we ordered two. The beet salad was nice and light and paired nicely with the goat cheese, walnuts and tarragon vinaigrette. ...As any wine lover knows, you can't leave a wine bar without cheese and charcuterie, so we ordered a second bottle of bubbles and did the 6 selections for $33. We choose 4 cheeses and 2 meats which came with slices of toasted bread, home made pickles, and whole grain mustard. Everything was fantastic. Our waitress, Sarah, really knew her stuff too, she was great. We're all in varying aspects of the food and wine industry, so we were asking some in-depth questions, but she was on top of her game! Ardesia is a romantic little wine bar hidden away on a quiet street, ideal for dates or grabbing a drink with a girlfriend. It has quite an alluring charm to it. I don't think you should go with parties of more than four. Walked in on a weekday at 8 and sat at one of the empty high top tables. I got the garlic shrimp skewers and the roasted cauliflower dishes. The eight shrimp pieces were very small, super garlicky, and pretty standard. The cauliflower was my favorite, as it's got a lot of breading over it that gave it taste, but it is admittedly oily. They're pretty small for the price, definitely tapas-style, but they're pretty tasty and were enough for the time being. My company got a sparkling red wine that "has a kick to it." I thought it was way too strong for my tastes, but I'm a child when it comes to alcohol. We also split the ice cream sandwich - it's so good! Service was on top of things until it was bill time and no one could be found. Argh! But they were friendly and professional when it came to ordering, bringing out food, and water refills. Saw some signs for a Superbowl party and an Oscar viewing party, even though there was no TV in sight, but I wonder how those events are! read more

I'll start by saying I live downtown and have made the 30-min cycle up here multiple times because it is that good. I initially came here before Covid and have been twice since our rules have relaxed. The outside seating is well set up, lots of space around each table. The staff have all been so nice, accommodating and upbeat. The food is delicious and wine options are varied and unique. It has fast become my go-to place to meet friends and I'll happily continue to make the journey up there to support this business. read more

Pasta was perfectly al dente- my one gripe is that I felt the duck ragu was a bit too salty, which even managed to overpower the tomato flavor. We shared the truffle pizza, which came topped off with stracciatella, porcini mushrooms and shaved truffles. I liked the porcini mushrooms on the pizza, this was a first for me. For dessert (which we had to gobble down quickly because baby was starting to get fussy) we got the pistachio cake. SAVE SPACE IN YOUR STOMACH FOR THIS ONE!!! The prices are definitely a little inflated but for some reason I feel like the prices at most Flatiron places of this caliber are set similarly so I suppose it is ~locally~ normative. In any case, it fits the vibe of the area well and it is suitable for pretty much any occasion so it's versatile too. We came here at 8:15 as a party of four on a Saturday night. Though it wasn't too hard to get a reservation, the place was completely full. That said, it's a relatively big space so they have plenty of tables to accommodate parties of many different sizes. The decor is fresh and refined, lots of greenery which is the move these days. Though it's a white tablecloth situation the vibe is not pretentious or buttoned up, it's lively and fun just in a sophisticated way. Cocktails and wine options aplenty here, with quite a few cocktail options featuring Greek/Mediterranean ingredients (mastiha, I'm looking at you) which I very much appreciated. A few folks started with the "I Speak For The Trees" (Spring 44 Vodka, Cucumber, Mastiha) cocktail and in doing so tried mastiha for the first time. I, not surprisingly, had to try the martini, which is the Fantasy Is A Necessary Ingredient (Dill Vodka, Sardinian Vermouth, Olive Oil). Despite not being a vodka person, vodka in dirty martinis is the one exception I will make from time to time, especially when there is a fun infusion that elevates the drink. I was extremely happy that, after ordering it, our server asked if I wanted it with a regular olive or feta-stuffed olive, as if there is really any deliberation that needs to happen there (read: feta-stuffed olives are a no-brainer). For the rest of the night I just got dirty martinis or espresso martinis which are both particularly excellent here. My partner tried the La Osa Albarino (Val do Salnes, Rias Biaxas, Spain) with our entrees which I also enjoyed. Food-wise, we got to sample a decent portion of the menu being a party of four, though we didn't order any of the bigger entrees (mostly because we could not justify the price). Everything was great and the only reason this isn't five stars is just because I reserve that for experiences where things are mind-blowing/super memorable and as they say, it is called the Hall of Fame not the Hall of the Very Good. In any case, it's hard to pick out a favorite dish because we really enjoyed everything, but that is a good sign for the rest of the menu should you want to order something we didn't try. Everything was an A or A+ in this meal so I'll skip the letter grades for this review. Eats, below: Norwegian Yellowtail Tartare w/ Ezme, Borage, Sumac Light, delicate, relatively straightforward as far as tartares go but the ezme adds a nice touch that's a nod to the Mediterranean. Gem Lettuce Salad w/ Dill, Scallion, Cucumber, Sesame-Anchovy Vinaigrette Super fresh and delicious, perhaps a little Caesar-esque but with far more intrigue. Sugar Kiss Melon w/ Stracciatella Di Buffala, Spicy Coppa, 25 Year Balsamic We actually decided to nix this at the last second when we realized we may have ordered a bit too much food but our lovely server brought it anyway (she really made the night for us). This could even be a dessert-type dish if you'd like, but certainly works among the savory courses too. Charred Spanish Octopus w/ Potato, Mint, Aged Sherry The octopus was beautifully cooked and presented, seasoned well, no notes on that. The potatoes were decent but less exciting than the rest of the dish imo. Roasted Dorade w/ Tamarind Glaze, Pomegranate, Jalapeño, Herb Salad Absolutely loved this dish. According to our server, it's on the opposite end of the spectrum from the branzino, which is a cleaner, simpler preparation (and the whole fish), while this is a total flavor bomb. While I do love branzino, I'm glad we opted for this at less than half of the price. And I'm pretty sure the last time the four us went out for dinner we ordered a full fish and I'm pretty sure it was branzino so here's to shaking things up. Rocky Mountain Lamb Chops w/ Black Garlic, Ras El Hanout, Mint Chermoula Despite not usually being a red meat person I really loved these. Incredibly juicy and flavorful, making a strong case for being priced as high as they are. Honey Spiced Carrots Don't sleep on sides! Often an afterthought but they deserve a seat at the table, and these were good evidence of this.

The suits were daily, the walls were gold, and the pressure was so consuming that even success could feel like a form of attrition. After a few years, I moved to a smaller firm with Southern roots, where the culture was more humane, the work gave me greater autonomy, and I produced some of the strongest results of my career, even within an industry still governed by fear, greed, and status. Inside, the red booths, low lighting, generous spacing, and hand-painted monkey murals made lunch feel ceremonial without becoming stiff. The room was timeless and handsome, with polished service, quality food, and the subtle assurance of a place where you could be proud to bring someone important. I especially remember sitting in one of those booths with two mentors, each only a few years older than I was and therefore close enough in vintage to feel relatable, trustworthy, and genuinely within reach. One had entered my life after I left the larger firm and helped me understand an earlier chapter that had also ended abruptly and, at the time, felt deeply unfair; the other had guided me through the smaller firm where I finally found a more sustainable way to work. Over that long lunch, I introduced them, we discussed several promising ideas, and for a moment my career seemed to have reached the point where relationships, experience, and opportunity were finally converging. One of those ideas consumed an extraordinary amount of my time and energy, and I believed it might become the foundation of my next chapter. Instead, the arrangement eventually turned on me, the role I thought I had earned never materialized, and the business itself sputtered. My professional life, financial footing, and pride all collapsed just as COVID was beginning. Then Monkey Bar closed in 2020, which made the ending feel almost unnervingly complete: the restaurant, the city, and the version of myself built around New York finance all went dark at once. For years, I experienced that ending as devastating and unfair; now I can see it as wisdom delivered through an unnecessarily rough process. The restaurant's later revival by a Chicago hospitality group feels fitting because it still honors tradition and ceremony while allowing the old forms to evolve into something healthier, looser, and more current. I have not been back since that lunch, but a return now would feel like visiting the museum of my past, not reclaiming a life that asked too much, gave too little, and finally lost its hold on me. Even now, I remember Monkey Bar as a great Midtown lunch in a memorable room, surrounded by the residue of old ambitions and the gratitude of having survived them. The cocktails were sharp, the service was impeccable, and the dining room carried that glamorous old New York energy without feeling trapped by it. It was just average. Another friend ordered the short rib stroganoff. The flavor was decent, but it was far too rich and heavy. As someone whose palate is split 50/50 between Western and Chinese cuisine, I could manage only five bites at most. If you have a palate that prefers 100% Chinese food, proceed with caution on this dish. Friends ordered sides of mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. These are dishes originally meant for low-income Americans to fill up on cheaply; there's no limit to how good they can be, but also no floor to how bad they can get. Both were on par with the average quality found in upscale restaurants. Honestly, these are two dishes I would never order myself. To sum up: the atmosphere was great. It's also hard to get a reservation; the place was packed when we had lunch at 2 PM. Aside from that monkey bread, I didn't feel like anything else justified the price or offered something you couldn't find elsewhere. I don't quite get the hype. Perhaps I just didn't order the right dishes; maybe next time I'll try the burger and the steak.

Tonight, I had an unfortunate dining experience where I ordered only a wine and a cocktail without food. I had tried the food on previous visits. Sadly, the wine did not meet my expectations and the portion served was disappointingly small, to the extent where I only managed two sips. I asked for a replacement, which was a beer, and to my surprise, it was served in the same glass as the wine. I find it unusual and inappropriate for a beer to be served in a wine glass. My aggravation continued when I was charged for what the establishment deemed as 'half of my drink,' which was actually just the two sips of wine I had. Although they removed it from my bill after I complained, the misunderstanding was rather upsetting. The server's assistant asserted that I had consumed 'half of my drink', which was plainly inaccurate. What tipped me over the edge was the tipping incident. Due to the less than satisfactory service, I refrained from leaving a tip. To my astonishment, the server's assistant went out of his way to follow me a whole building away from the restaurant's property, confronting me to inquire about my decision to not leave a tip. Ardesia boasts an impressive wine selection, which I absolutely loved! The servers were incredibly helpful with their recommendations, making the experience even more enjoyable. I tried their charcuterie board, which was quite good. I especially loved the mortadella--it stood out more than the prosciutto. The blue cheese was creamy and decent, though not particularly memorable. One funny mishap: I accidentally ordered the portobello mushroom fries, thinking they were regular fries with mushroom sauce. The standout dish for me was the portobello mushroom fries ($16). The portion was generous, and the fries were absolutely delicious, covered in plenty of cheese. I'm thrilled to have found a bar in the neighborhood that I genuinely enjoy. In total, we spent about $30 per person for both food and drinks (after tax). Food was alright. We ordered the Shrimp kebabs, Asparagus, Cheese and Charcuterie platter, and NY Pretzels. I liked the shrimp, but it wasn't anything too fancy. The same applies to the asparagus. I didn't like the cheese and meats too much, but they weren't horrendous. They had a funky aftertaste (could just be the cheese offered). The pretzels were alright, but hardened pretty quickly, and the cheese solidified quickly as well. Maybe we came on a bad day, but I found the waitress to be a little rude, pushy, and inattentive. We ordered a couple of things to begin with that she didn't end up ordering for us until we made our final order. Waitress was pretty curt. Discrimination lives in NYC too! I don't believe that restaurant this caliber is doing such a thing against minority customers. we (my wife and I) were in discussion with 2 male (white) clientele regarding dog boarding (believe it or not), when business decided that we were bothering these customers (my wife and were having wine and we also live in the same building where the restaurant is located) (we offered to buy these customers glass of wine to be polite) without listening to both side of stories we were found guilty and police were called and we were asked to leave, simply because I asked the restaurant to why don't they ask white customers to leave and restaurant responded by calling police to escort us out. We've come back here a couple of times and had some of their small plates to eat, and they've been quite good! Some of the dishes we have tried: - Seared flank steak (tender with a flavorful chimichurri) - Croquettes (selection varies, a-ok, but could do with less of the mayo dressing) - Deviled eggs (solid) - Chicken liver mousse (a hard to find dish, executed well here. Good earthiness balanced with a sweet savory onion jam) - Lamb skewers (alright) - Pulled pork sliders (tangy, spicy and delicious!). Scratch the DOG-FRIENDLY tag from this joint. Last night the dude out front told us our TINY dog could not sit in the outdoor patio area because (insert vague excuse) "...the health inspector was coming." At 8pm on thursday? He then retreated inside, and we stood there with another pair of dog-owners and wondered what we had done to deserve that kind of treatment? There were TWO free tables! Oh well. I came here expecting such great things such I had a couple friends who liked this place and said it was a good date place. I agree the decor and ambiance was great but the food was not up to par. Deviled eggs had very little effort into them- just whipped yolk with a chip and pickle on top. Had the chorizo shrimp, which was decent but not worth the price. The Vietnamese duck sandwich was horrible- flavors did not blend well at all. Lamb skewers were the only mildly redeeming factor. I will only be back here for wine, if at all. read more

The food was great, good tapas size to share between two people, amazing wine selection as well. I especially liked the s'mores for dessert. The chairs are a little uncomfortable, no back rest and the tables are low so you are bending over the table, my back was hurting by the end of the night. Would recommend it and I am definitely going back! read more

Nice intimate bar with good service and a nice wine and scotch collection. Tried the pretzel and lamb skewer tapas and ate every bit of each of them. In a quieter part of town so you dont have to deal with tourists, pretentious crowds or a crowd period. Great for a quiet and romantic night out. read more

I wasn't impressed with the food. I got about 5 dishes to share and only the lamb skewers and shrimp were good (but not memorable). Ambiance was great though, really nice intimate setting. I would come back here for wine on a date but not for food. read more
