My friend and I were shocked when what we ordered was served. We've never tried Colombian cuisine, so the waiter suggested that we try their platter special to get a bit of everything, and it really was a bit of EVERYTHING. Here's what we ordered: Picada Mar y Tierra: A mix of meats, plantains, arepa, and potatoes, all so delicious and flavorful. This menu item also comes with various dipping sauces. Loved it! Next time, I'm going to order a sweet drink to balance out the richness of the meats. :)l

I used to really like coming here. The food just didn't impress as it used to. Some of the food was cold, cuts of meat were not as tender as I remember. Plantain was so soggy in oil, yuca was not crispy. Server was nice and attentive. Sat outside, still felt attended to. Limited street parking.

I have not been to a Colombian restaurant for a while so thought we should try this. Ordered chicken and beef empanadas which I forgot take photo of them. We tried the combos for two people that had steaks, pork ribs, chicken, yucca, bananas and arepas. If you don't eat that much this will be too much we had left over and took it home. They all had the same flavor and it is $50 for this order. The pina colada was too sweet but we didn't say anything to the bartender because they seemed busy. The place has indoor and outdoor seating. There is a bar seating inside as well. I am so impressed with their restroom! clean and unique decor.

Literally my favorite restaurant! Every time i step into this place i know I'm going to eat good. I always get the matrimonio with steak & chicken. Everything is so flavorful and juicy and it comes on a silver platter sizzling. Drinks are good and service is usually on point. Definitely a spot to go to if you're in the mood for Colombian food. Apps, sides, and desserts are so bomb. The ambiance is dark on the inside but it's a cute lil vibe. Highly recommend coming here. You will always leave with left overs and it will still taste so good the next day!

The ambience is low key, classic, with some Latino vibes, with a mixture of art. I really enjoyed the empanadas, cocktails and parrilla. Service was great, friendly staff, constantly checking on us. It is worth a visit!

Oh my goodness! I've been wanting to come here for a while, but it never seems to work out, but my husband treated me to dinner here for a pre Mother's Day celebration. I wanted to give 5 stars but I didn't like that the guy who took the reservations over the phone said they were completely booked but when we arrived they weren't even half way full in seating. However we were seated immediately and given water and menus. Since I heard about this place before from family I already knew what I wanted to order. We tried their popular rum drink....it was okay a little too strong for my liking so I gave it to my husband. Lol. Then I ordered their famous passion fruit sangria - it's authentic passion fruit not that fake stuff so it has an powerful fruity taste. Lastly I ordered the pineapple mojito it was so good! Real pieces of pineapple floating around. It was yummy. Ok so for the food aspect: FIRE! My goodness! Quality meat is my love language! We started off with the chicken soup it's just a wholesome chicken and potato soup that's just full of flavor, we tried the beef empanadas with the dipping sauces they provide - definitely try them. They say the beef is better than the chicken - we didn't try the chicken empanadas so I can't speak on it. Then for the entree we did the combination platter it was a huge platter of meat, potatoes, Colombian cornbread and plantains. I honestly think this is the best bet because it's almost a sampler of all the meat options they have and you can upgrade it to add seafood, but I'm not a seafood fan so I passed on it. But when I tell you the meat was tender, well seasoned, and juicy believe me! Some of the best meat I've had. The sauces go so well with them as well. Just a treat! We had dessert even though my waistline said no. We tried the Oreo pie I wasn't a fan but the Tres Leche was pretty tasty. Service: Thee best service! Our waitress Maria M. was phenomenal she was attentive and explained everything to us throughout our time ordering. I really appreciated her suggestions she was spot on and very helpful. Will I be back again?! You betcha!

Came here with my family for some good authentic Chicago, Colombian food. Got the steak with chicken yucca, sweet potato all for a great price.

Came in early during the weekend because we were craving some meat. Was greeted immediately upon walking in and sat within seconds. It took about 10 minutes for a server to greet the table and we were told about drinks and favorites on the menu. We opted for caipirinha's which were delicious and reasonably priced. We tried the cheese, chicken, and beef empanadas and they were delicious! My favorite was the cheese. For our main course we chose the big platter for two. It came with chicken, steak, ribs, sausage, plantain, and cheese. Honestly the portion was great but most of the meat was dry. Edible, seasoned, but very dry. The cheese and plantains were really good though. This was a miss for me but my wife was satisfied with the food.

Such a delicious Colombian dinner! We loved the beef empanadas, but chicken was also yummy! The guac was great and the serving size was giant, although they charged us for a second serving of plantain chips. Then we got the family size Picada Colombiana which comes with a variety of meats and carbs. Everything was outstanding! Our drinks were great too - we had a sangria and a few different margs. Wish we'd saved room for dessert. Note to self for next time: request an outdoor table when making reservation.

Las Tablas was nothing short but magical! I got introduced to Las Tablas by Chicago's restaurant week. They were offering a good deal we couldn't pass up! Upon entering the establishment, it felt like we were transported to a vacation resort restaurant! The decor was welcoming and felt true to what I imagined a Columbian restaurant would be. Our server was cool. He warmed up more towards the end of our visit. Our prefixed meal was great. Surprisingly more filling than I thought. CNt wait to go back. We had a seat towards the kitchen so we saw alot of tasty goodies going to other tables. That fried rib plate abd whole fried fish looked amazing!

You do get a lot of food for what you are paying for, so you will never leave hungry. The food is good but nothing that made me go WOW. I also don't understand why there aren't more people that dine here. I've gone twice now and each time there is maybe one or two other tables occupied int he entire establishment. I wish they had a more lively atmosphere and focused more on the in house dinning rather than the deliveries.

We absolutely loved our dinner here! Delicious, authentic food. We will definitely be back.

The food and service are amazing Thanks to cashier holder…read more Nice service The music too

My lovely wife and I decided to have lunch at El Fogon de Elena on a very busy Sunday. This is a…read moresnug Colombian restaurant on Lawrence just a tad east of Kedzie. So our server stated that our first-choice food selections were not available (steak jibarito and beef arepa) so instead we then ordered empanadas (one beef, one shrimp) and the chuleta valluna. We noticed that the kitchen was slingin' some massive plates of food, so we decided to split the one entree and the empanadas. Well the server comes along and says they are out of shrimp empanadas. How can a restaurant be out of so many food items when it is barely past 1PM? We decided to do just the single entree and the single empanada. I also ordered a can of Inca Kola (good stuff, though I had to beg for the drink after our food was served), and we did get some ice water. The beef empanada was AOK, not bad. The chuleta valluna features a massive flattened breaded pork chop along with many items (rice, fries, yuca fries, tostones, yellow potato, salad). The menu mentioned this dish would also have sweet plantain, but perhaps the yuca fries were a sub for the sweet plantain. I gotta admit, the food overall is pretty good. The service from the staff was pleasant, but there was always something "off" during our dining experience. When the bill came, we were charged for the shrimp empanada that was not being served, so we had to ask for a corrected bill to deduct the missing empanada. Overall we had extremely mixed feelings about our lunchtime here. Perhaps it was just a super busy day here, but I am feeling overly generous with my three-star review.
