I was not disappointed! I have had other jewelry repaired before, but the care with which my ring was soldered was top quality. I had a custom ring that I wanted to add a "wow" factor but could not really verbalize what I wanted. Scott was so patient walking me thru the various options and we finally settled on texturizing it using engraving. The folks here are friendly and courteous. However ... I had a few (standard, small) silver links added to a piece, and was quoted a price for additional work. I hesitated and was told by the gentleman helping me that the high price reflected the current "very high" price of silver. I looked this up later and found that Ari's markup and/or charge for labor is very, very high. So all in all will not return for any work there. read more

But wait, this is the best part. My husband recently replaced his wedding ring (purchased elsewhere), and the new band wasn't quite as great as he'd hoped. We requested a quote to modify the ring. Scott offered a thoughtful and professional solution; creating two contrasting gold bands above and below to add depth to the white gold band. A week later, ready for pick-up. He was honest and transparent throughout the process, making the task of designing custom/re-creating vintage so approachable. We came in with a pretty clear idea of the deco style that we wanted and he delivered it perfectly- complete with a great story and photos of the creation process to add to our memories of this special piece of jewelry. His design skills are spot-on and he was able to translate the photos we brought into perfect renderings. Along the way we were shown previous projects similar to ours, CAD renderings, wax models, and more. He was straight-forward about price and willing to work within a budget. The materials and craftsmanship are of the highest quality and the ring is exactly what I wanted. I have only a few suggestions if you are considering creating a custom piece with Ari Diamonds, but these likely apply to any other similar artisan. Allow for more time than you may expect. You choose custom because you have some particular expectations and while I remain positive that Ari Diamonds can deliver on them, give yourself time to enjoy the experience and arrive at your perfect piece of jewelry. Set a budget, but be prepared for it to cost slightly more. Scott was always clear with us regarding any charges and incredibly reasonable given the labor and resources that our project needed, but custom work is less predictable and some details may cost more than originally planned. Finally, set up clear lines of communication from the beginning. I would say that this shop is full of brilliant artisans and less perfect communicators so be prepared to check in from time to time. Words cannot express how grateful I am to have worked with Scott and the Ari Diamonds team. My journey began in February when I took my grandmothers wedding band (a platinum ring with ten baguette diamonds in a bar setting) to another jeweler in California to have them re-tip the prongs and resize the band. What they ended up doing, to my utter dismay and horror, was actually change the setting entirely to a poorly done channel setting, complete with uneven platinum laid on both sides, a huge gap in one of the corners, and sloppy metalwork on the head of the ring. They also did a terrible job resizing, which I discovered after the shank began cracking within just a week of wear. Feel free to look at the pictures I uploaded on my profile under "Business Photo's", that will show how terrible the ring looked. After consulting with a number of other jewelers, it was obvious there was hardly any chance of undoing what was done - if I wanted to wear a ring that looked like my grandmothers, I would need to have one custom made. To say that I was crushed would be an understatement. Fast forward to July, I have relocated to Portland and am ready to find a reputable jeweler to create a custom ring identical to my grandmothers. Ari Diamonds stood out to me immediately because of all the great reviews, and not just on Yelp! but literally every other website I could find them on. Within just a few minutes of talking to Scott about my previous experience and what I was looking for, it was clear that my grandmothers ring was now in good hands. He was very attentive, asked a lot of clarifying questions to understand what I wanted, and he just seemed so excited to help me. Like, he genuinely couldn't wait to remake this beautiful and unique piece for me. Everything from emailing a CAD drawing, to creating a wax model, to completing the final product was done quickly and on time. This guy is fantastic! So, I showed up 4 days before Christmas Eve. I was not optimistic that I would find anything. I was looking for a replacement "wear everyday" ring for my wife. (Her wedding set, while very nice, is not the greatest for day to day working, etc.) So, I told him this. he showed me the case. Nothing that worked. He suggested we design something. "If we do it now, I can have it for you Christmas Eve." NICE! He helped me design the ring to match my band. Great suggestion from Scott (Thanks, Scott!) We designed it up (took about 10 minutes), and we were on the way. Ring was done on time and looked great. But wait, there's more! Scott looked at the design, when finished and felt he might be able to improve the visibility of one element and make it look better. I picked up the ring on time. He told me to come back in a few days when the redesign was done to check it out, if I wanted to. (I did.) No charge to try to make me even happier. New design did just what he expected. Improved on what I had asked for and made the ring look even better. My wife loved it. He swapped out the ring at no additional charge. What a great experience! Cannot recommend this place enough. Great family run shop, they'll work with you to design whatever you want or they have samples and software to help come up with ideas if you're not quite sure. It's not the cheapest option for all items since you do pay for upfront work and sample creation but for unique and higher end items it's an excellent deal and definitely worth investing the time. read more

I went in because the band of my ring had broken; I hadn't shopped around and was expecting some crazy triple digit price tag to repair the ring I loved so. Low and behold, I met Scott and he explained to me in detail the pros/cons of two different methods of repair. Once we agreed on which to use he gave me a slight discount. And the price tag was only two digits!!! I was able to pick it up the next day and I am SO pleased with their work. I can't even tell it was repaired and my ring is round and shiny again, hooray! Wow! So I have been meaning to write a review for awhile now... But, I am happy to say I am still just as amazed by my custom ring as I was 4 months ago. My husband and I came to Scott with an engagement ring I never wore and my Mom's original engagement ring that she no longer wore, with the impossible request to combine all the stones into a single band that would be comfortable to wear everyday (unlike my engagement ring that snagged on everything), beautiful, and different. My Mom and my Dad are still very happily married after 35 years, so I figure wearing her diamonds every day has to be good luck :). This is very special to me, and something I have wanted ever since my Mom gave me her ring and asked us to do something with it. I was amazed by the promptness, even after I said I was in no hurry (I had been waiting 5 years for this, I could wait a bit longer, right?). Of course, as soon as the process started, I was very excited and Scott had everything done in mere weeks! The ring is absolutely gorgeous, and extremely unique. It saddens me to write this review because I am a small business owner myself and I pride myself in doing business with the "little guy". Scott's professionalism is lacking. I came into purchase a diamond for a setting I already had. He asked if it was for myself and I said no, it was for my girlfriend. His cheery, eager demeanor changed immediately. He then proceeded to bring out several uncertified diamonds and one that was nearly yellow. All of them well below the standard I gave him in my initial request. To make matters worse he burped. Yes, burped in my face. He said oops, there's that Costco hotdog for lunch. What did this kind of customer service get his company? Nothing. I went to Shane Co. in Tigard. Dropped $4500 on a certified diamond and got top notch service. Sad for Scott and his small business for not putting forth more effort and hiding his homophobic slant. Unlike all the other reviews- I did not have a successful experience at Ari Diamonds. Spent a lot of money and time and still do not have a ring on my finger! I went in with diamond hoop earrings and my engagement ring to create a new halo style ring for my 15th anniversary- Scott seemed nice- and I thought he knew what he was doing, but his style and craftsmanship were lacking when it came to my piece. The first attempt at creating my ring it was bulky and the prongs were all you saw not the glitter of the diamonds- he agreed after lengthy talk and telling me I scared him and I would probably never be happy... I should have taken the ring and gone but decided to allow him to correct his work but it would cost more. So I waited- then he called to say he broke a diamond and had to order a replacement to put in the halo part of my ring, so I continued to wait. I picked up my ring and I thought it looked much better but still not like the picture I had showed him and our conversation etc. ( Too lengthy to even type here)I went home and promptly called to get the ring appraised so I could include on my insurance. I pulled out all my paperwork on earrings and original ring and found that 4 diamonds were now missing from my ring. The rendering he had showed me had 16 diamonds on each side but the ring, only had 14. Where were the 4 diamonds???So I called him and he said he had to call me back. He then called back to say - "oh the jeweler had them on his desk." Why?? Why weren't they in my ring? He said my design change did not allow for them to be on the band. So why weren't they returned to me when I picked up my ring?? He didn't respond... I went in the next day to get the diamonds, they were given to me in a unmarked small ziplock?? Very suspect. I went to the appraiser and upon inspection of my ring one of the diamonds in the halo was of very poor quality and not like any of the others- great huh? Also- that my platinum was not pure... The appraiser looked at the four loose diamonds he returned and at initial inspection they looked to be the same, but they are not... Upon taking out the bad diamond to replace with one of the diamonds Scott said came from my earrings they are not the same size! They are smaller! This has been a complete pain! I have written Scott explaining all the discrepancies in what he has told me, based on what the 2 jewelers have told me about my ring and the diamonds etc...and I have not received a response from him. This story is too long I gave you the readers digest version. My experience was less than 1 star, maybe he was just being shady by taking my diamonds and making a crappy ring to get back at me- either way I wasted money and time! read more
