Tried several of their dishes and the highlights were the Beef Soo-Yook soup, Dolsot Al-Bap and surprisingly the Grilled Chicken skewers. The soup was perfect for the cold weather we've been having, and I definitely want to go back to try the others!! The dolsot al-bap pretty much speaks for itself and the grilled chicken skewers looked standard but wow'ed us with the flavor. My Korean friends confirmed that this place is pretty authentic!! Another winner from Hand Hospitality!! Been waiting to try Ariari for the longest time and finally got a res. We sat in the outdoor patio and it was actually really cute! As for food, we ordered the Scallop DIY Gimbap, Fried Soft Shell Crab, Dolsot Al-Bap, and Spicy Fish Stew. Faves were def the Crab and Dolsot Al-Bap which is what you've def seen on IG before. The Scallop was also really fresh and the DIY was fun! Spicy Fish Stew was good too but not too impressive so I probably wouldn't get that again tho it was still delicious. Another great Korean small plates place in the East Village. -Hal Cheon Pork Soup: Very solid. Our waiter said it was the best soup to order -Lotus Root Salad: didn't except this to be such a show stopper. We added it simply because we thought we needed more food and it ended up being one of my favorite dishes. -Eel: Loved it. Didn't taste the raspberry sauce but was still super good. Great new Korean spot highlighting food from Busan! The place is very nicely decorated with lots of character and attention to detail - courtesy of Hand Hospitality. We had an early dinner reservation. It was pretty quiet when we got seated but super busy by the time we left. My friend and I ordered a bunch of dishes to share and enjoyed all of them. We started with the Mak-Hwe, which was refreshing and fun to try for the first time. The Soy Braised Lotus Root Salad was also tasty and a creative take on a seasonal fall salad. The Spicy Pork and Fried Squid was very flavorful and we enjoyed the mix of textures. Finally, the Beef Soo-Yook was comforting and rich, but not too heavy, great for cold weather! Was really excited to try this place since I've been hearing so many great things. We booked reservations pretty far in advance since they're only open for dinner and tables get booked quickly. For drinks, we ordered the maesil and gochugaru. The maesil was pretty mild and non offensive, but nothing super special. The gochugaru was nice and fruity with a spicy kick that I enjoyed. For apps, we ordered the yook hwe and fried soft shell crab. The yook hwe had cubes of beef tartare and octopus in a creamy slightly sweet sauce, but the overwhelming flavor came from the crispy onion. The fried soft shell crab was really nice and crispy, and still juicy on the inside. For mains, we got the spicy pork with fried squid and the dolsot Al-bap. The spicy pork was thinly sliced and super tender, and I really enjoyed it. The dolsot Al-bap was pretty mild in flavor and I loved the crispy rice from the hot stone bowl. They recommended ordered 2 dishes per person to share so here are what we got: - Bulgogi: the dish was standard and not too special - Seafood stew: the broth was clear. It was heated on the stove the entire time, which was nice. There was plenty of seafood in the stew. - Fried soft-shell crab: it was yummy, cristy but oily - Dolsot al-bap: this is the famous dish you would see everywhere on tiktok so I did have high hope. As someone who has once lived in Korea, I feel like this is the Korean restaurant I've been waiting for in Manhattan. The flavors here showcase a really compelling blend of "authentic" and "trendy", where the authentic Korean aspects really come through without being off-putting to the American palate. Try to include the beef soup and the chicken skewers in your table's order. A friend invited me to take over her coworkers reservation at ARIARI! I've never heard of the restaurant and also never had korean food in the city before, let alone heard of a korean tapas place! The spot in nestled in a busy east village street and very small/intimate. It maybe can hold 30 people max? However it was constantly bustling. I have adhd so I was so stimulated and couldn't stop looking at the door every single time someone walked in hahaha. It was also pretty noisy and the staff would yell something in what I believe in Korean every time someone sat down I believe haha. The service and staff were spot on and always so ready to help you or assist to you. They would never let your cup be empty, it was crazy how fast they were. The interior is really cosy and chill (lots of ambient lighting). I was very excited to try this restaurant as it's a little challenging even in LA to find Busan style food. Although I don't really think this is... typical Busan style, the food was truly spectacular nonetheless. They start you off with a nice refreshing crunchy salad with a toasty sesame dressing. We ordered the octopus salad, the fried soft shell crab, the uni/egg bowl and the pork gukbap. The fired soft shell crab is an absolute must! The fry on it is like... those popped shrimp chips so it was very unique and cooked perfect. You people are tripping giving this place 4 or 5 stars. The food is the most important aspect of a restaurant. The food at ariari was not good. Makhwe was cut like someone took a wood chipper to half a fish, some of the pieces were not that great, and the chojang was weirdly gritty. The ssamjang was tasty according to my wife but she has trash taste, trust me when I say it was mediocre at best. Al bap was so mediocre and one-dimensional, I dare say this was pure trash. You want a great seafood rice dish, go to Osamil and get their uni bibimbap. Haemul jeon was ok, great texture and chew. Too bad it was saltier than chugging ocean water... My blood pressure doubled from the time I ate my first bite of jeon to the last bite of the first slice. I'm trash so I hatefully ate another slice but no one needs to know about that in this review. Pork soup was entirely mediocre and kind of bland if nothing else. They added buchu Kimchi on top of the soup becuase traditionally it balances out the fatty heavy flavor of the pork broth, but in this case all you could taste was the Kimchi seasoning, utterly dominating the broth. One interesting note is that despite our overzealous server telling us that the soup was ready to eat as soon as it came to our table, it as 100 times better tasting approximately 20 min later, when the chemical lighter at the table was all but extinguished and the broth was reduced approximately 30%. Still, even at the end of its reduction and stewing down, this went from sheer trash to edible. Squid and pork bokum was not the right flavor at all. You know when you repurpose leftovers for an entirely different role in a new dish the next day? For example taking leftover mcdz nuggets and using them as the protein component of your post-mcdz-nut-clarity shame-filled healthy balsamic glazed Kale salad the following day.. You can still tell it's chopped up chicken nuggets and you're fooling no one, not least yourself. Similarly the sauce in this dish was weirdly bitter, the pork was weirdly over-smoked and a bit old-tasting, the squid was battered and calamari-ed for no reason other than to be different I assume. An entirely 0/10 dish. Sheer garbage honestly. Lotus root salad was ok, if not for the absurdly overpowering sweet sauce glazed over the whole thing. Chicken with mashed potatoes was so boring I nearly went unconscious after the first bite. I thought I was at pf changs for a second, the teriyaki sauce that has nothing to do with Korean cuisine just coating the inside of my mouth and slowly oozing down my esophagus. It was like eating a boat anchor with every dense, hate-filled bite. Way too sweet and the potatoes acted as a wonderful caulking agent gluing my teeth to the chicken. Omija bingsoo was extremely rough cut shaved ice (presumably to evoke old school vibes?) with some Omija juice soaked into it. Reminiscent of leftover plowed snow on the side of a road about one week after a snow storm. So mediocre and lazy. Corn creme brulee was possibly the most edible thing all meal, and yet it too evoked pure sadness. Sadness, from being utterly neglected by the flavor gods. As far as the vibe goes it was ok, they play retro Korean 90s and early 2k songs if you have trash taste in music and that's your thing. The service was weirdly over attentive to the point of being invasive on our table conversation, but only for the first 10 minutes. Then the service all but stopped. I thought the ambience was ok otherwise, besides some chick loudly proclaiming that her pork was the greatest thing she'd ever eaten since she was under 200 lbs. Between the mediocre food and social media hype this restaurant was a complete and total letdown. Everything tasted like Korean food, as cooked by an inexperienced chef equipped with a "how to cook Asian food" recipe book. Granted this is in st mark's not ktown, but still. Even people down here know what Korean food is supposed to taste like. 1.5/10 mostly trash. St. Marks is home to many wonderful restaurants, this place is a waste of precious space in this area. read more

This tapas style restaurant was absolutely divine. While the dishes doesn't necessarily remind me of busan, each plate was so good and bursting with flavor. The beef tartare had fried onions and chewy baby octopus bits with a sesame sauce. My favorite was the pork soup and glazed eel. The soup was comforting and the meat was so tender, perfect with some white rice. The glazed eel was crispy, spicy, and sweet but watch out for the little bones inside. Well-deserved hype! To be honest, I live in the area and after this place blew up, I tried to avoid it initially so as to not give in ;) I saw one of my friends bookmark it and since we were due for a catch-up, I took the opportunity to make a Resy (2-3 weeks in advance to get prime dinner). Now for the food - honestly was very pleasantly surprised because the dishes felt familiar but new at the same time! I've had Korean food many times over but this was a nicely nuanced experience. We had the fried soft shell crab, beef tartare, an octopus dish, scallop hwe, and seafood soup. My favorites in order would be the scallop just because I love scallop, seaweed, and rice. My favorite thing was the yook-hwe- a beef tweeter with baby octopus (almost ordered a second it was that good). I highly recommend the fried chicken and the Dolsot Al-bap. The dolsot al bap was a rice dish with eggs, fish roe, and sea urchin cream that was a great side to some of the other dishes we ordered. I really like the vintage yet modern feel of this restaurant. I was really hyped to come here after seeing it everywhere on social media. It definitely did not disappoint! We got the scallop diy gimbap to start and it tasted so fresh and I loved the apple kimchi that went with it. We also got the yook hwe and the flavors were great but the portion was so tiny. The dol sot al bap was good but I probably wouldn't get again. The spicy pork and squid was great, super tender pork and crispy squid paired together was amazing. Quite frankly disappointed on my experience here despite all the high reviews for ARIARI. I'm a huge seafood person so I figured that I would at least be impressed by at least one dish here--didn't happen. We ordered the scallop DIY gimbap, spicy duck bulgogi, dolsot al bap, and the hap-cheon pork soup and none of the dishes were particularly memorable despite the high prices. Everything just tasted...okay? Nothing stood out and portion sizes were small. Honestly I feel like this is just one of those overhyped new korean restaurants. I came here with a friend and we had an absolutely wonderful time. The food and drinks we ordered were delicious and all the staff members were so kind and friendly. We were seated at a table that fit 4 people so it was extremely comfortable and roomy!! We asked our server for some recommendations and she suggested some of their popular dishes and helped us decide what to order when we felt like we were starting to order too much (because everything literally looked and sounded so good, we wanted to order everything). I also wasn't expecting much with the chicken skewer but that thing was so tender and the skin on the chicken was crispy so it actually ended up being one of my faves of the night haha. The dolsot al-bap (uni cream bibimbap) was great, we inhaled that thing (I'm not a big uni person, though, not even sure what uni actually tastes like so all I can say is I really enjoyed it haha. Complimentary salad with a peanut topping and the maesil drink (5/5 very light). Up next was our sweet and sour chicken with potato egg salad which was pretty good the sauce has a slight kick to it but not spicy and paired well with the potato. The rice bowl was our favorite; the sea urchin cream was delicious and they mixed it at the table for us. The seafood pancake has a chewier consistency than most places (also like a Thai chive pancake consistency) and packed with seafood. For appitizer, we ordered the Scallop DIY Gimbap and as someone who loves gimbap and seafood, this was a must order for me. It came with a side of apple kimchi, marinated squid, their own scallion mayo, seaweed, rice and of course Scallop. You can pick and choose how you want to make your gimbap but of course I just put everything on it. We also got the yook-hoe, which is basically beef tartare. I've tried this dish in many Korean restaurants and for those that are skeptical about trying raw beef, this one is a good starter because they are cut in small bite-size pieces and their seaweed mayo sauce makes you forget your eating raw beef. Definitely worth a try if your feeling adventurous. For main dishes, we ordered the Glazed jang-eo which is basically fried eel with a Korean raspberry sauce. As a fish lover, the only thing that disappointed me about this dish is that I wasn't able to taste the fish because of the sauce. On the other hand, my boyfriend really enjoyed this dish because he was able to eat fish without tasting the fishiness (no sure how this makes sense to him haha) Next we got the Dolsot Al Bap which is the bibimbap with fish roe and sea Urchin cream. We were skeptical of ordering this because we were afraid we wouldn't like the sea urchin cream but to my surprise it was really good. It didn't have an overwhelming fishy taste and if you love fish roe this is a must try. The waiter helped us mixed the cream with the rice. Note that this dish tends to be on the creamer side. Last dish we got was the Hap Cheon pork soup. This soup taste like kimchi stew and pork soup mixed together and it was AMAZING. There was pork jowl and pork stomach in the soup. Pork jowl is the fatty part of the pigs cheek and if you had this at kbbq, you will know how good it is. Definitely recommend! For dessert, there were only 2 things on their menu and we ordered both of them to try. Corn Creme Brulee! That's all that needs to be said. This was fire! It wasn't an overwhelming taste of corn but if you craving something sweet this is definitely a good choice. The omija bingsoo was more on the sour side and not as refreshing as I thought it would be. But definitely worth a try if you love sour stuff. Service was very good at this place. Let's just say your water glass will never be empty for the duration of your dinner because someone will come refill your glass before you even get a chance to do it yourself! A+ for water service lol Food came out pretty quickly and it was spaced out so that you won't have 5 dishes sitting in front of you at once. Overall this place is highly recommended for anyone who loves seafood. It's a great place for a date night with your partner or even a dinner out with the family. read more
