I met up with my cousins for lunch as we were all in town for a wedding and wanted to catch up before going our separate ways. When we pulled up to the restaurant, we were informed there were a few levels. We went to the second floor and they were happy to accommodate us. We were rolling 6 deep and the booth was enough for us, but barely. In our party, majority of us wanted meat with the exception of 2 people only wanting shrimp and something else. We got the large beef combination platter which comes with ribeye, thin skirt, brisket, marinated kalbi, and marinated chuck flap. Most people stuck with water, while a couple got ginger ale. I ordered the soju flight but I ended up not liking it so my cousins shared it. The meal comes with different veggies as well as your choice of soup. We got the spicy tofu and split it 6 ways. The spice lived up to its name, so I didn't eat very much. The best part was meat. Despite there being 6 of us, there was plenty to go around. I think you have the option to cook it yourself or have them cook it for you and we chose the latter. While I enjoyed it, I wish there was more space. Most of the space was taken up by the accompaniments that come with it (veggies, etc), so there was hardly any room to put anything else. Clearly, this is the only way to demand answers from the Robber Baron that runs this establishment for my virtuous whistleblower and his comrades. I'll set the stage. My Droogs and I were at the end of a high-end weekend of debauchery, activity, and consumption. The kind of weekend that refreshes the mind and body by three years, putting you back mentally to a quiet place in nature where the word "bothered" is a foreign concept. Collectively, we had 6.5 hours of sleep but we were running on full throttle. No less than 140 pints had been consumed in junction with some of the finest meals a gent can seek in this mecca of cuisine. We spent the afternoon recovering our spirits at the RussianTurkish bathhouse sweating out our sins and repowering our minds as we watch an Uzbek beat a portly fellow to a pulp with a couple of oakleaf bundles. Don't fret, the portly man appeared in good spirits while the rest of the 30 guests melted away in the Banya. At that very moment we were officially back. The Droogs enjoyed a cold beer to dive back in. After the suds were extinguished an elder decided to make a few rude unsolicited comments, which we promptly shamed with our midwestern modesty. Up until that point, we had not engaged an unpleasant fool. It clearly was a one off, likely because she could not handle the heat that shaped this land. Prides herself on her Subaru's CoExist bumper sticker and the multicolored words about what she believes "in this house." How ironic she had a mental breakdown surrounded by the actual ethnic variation that is the Eastern Europeans who flock to Ukrainian village for a reminder of ancestral struggles on a Saturday afternoon. Her demeanor did not impact us one bit. We commenced our journey to return to the Brahmin's penthouse in Prospect Heights for a brief reset. However, we witnessed a few locals share a crack pipe on the L which was disheartening as a 6 month old and her mother sat in close vicinity. We stepped aside and had a moment of silence. After paying our respects, the Brahmin welcomed us back with a tribute to the late legend, Brad Arnold. That was beyond necessary. The sun went down and the temperature dropped substantially. Negative 14 degree wind chills ripped up our foreheads as we make our way to Jongro. Upon entrance, we were placed in the front corner of the room. It was as if we were being sequestered from the remainder of the patrons. We sat down and within 5 minutes realized it was no more than 51 degrees in the restaurant. Something was seriously wrong. We proceed with our endless platters of meat but could not overlook the subtle hints of Siberia that permeated that room. It simply made no sense. In hopes of warming the patrons, the staff offered hot water. This was largely useless but the thought was nice. The staff was pleasant and focused solely on going above any beyond. We were notified that the front door had been broken for months but the owner refused to spend any money to fix this. The staff made countless complaints but the manager had no influence over this Scrooge McDuck figure. It's obvious he sits in a mansion in Thailand spending limitless amounts of Bahts on drugs and Kathoey but cannot provide the most basic repair to the infrastructure of this establishment. This man behind the curtains must be outed. Worse, the restaurant limits reservations to two hours. The only one who suffers is the staff. You can exit this restaurant in -14 and still feel more comfortable than the interior of Jongro. 4/5 Food; 5/5 Service; 1/5 interior; Make sure you bring your mink parka because this is the type of environment that will make you violate your religion. read more

We got a large beef platter, a bibimbap, of course banchan and all the sides, spicy squid, korean cold noodles, and a seafood pancake. It actually ended up being a bit too much food for 4 people. The tables have limited spaces- they bring a complimentary cheese and corn and a hot egg bowl. That was a nice touch. The BBQ area is quite big in the center and takes up majority of the table- can also make your clothes and hair smell when you leave. The squid was excellent- came with veggies and shrimp and pork. Seafood pancake in my personal opinion was just OK, but everyone else thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff here handle all the cooking and distribution of food and plates. I've been coming to Jongro since 2015 and it has consistently been a top tier KBBQ spot. Even after all these years that I haven't been back to NY, it has not fallen off one bit. I came here recently with family for an early bday celebration for my mom and the food was excellent. Quality beef with decent portions and the staff help you cook in sequence with non-marinated meats followed by marinated meats with a different grill that they change for you accordingly depending on what you order. I prefer ordering the marinated beef options, but the ribeye, kalbi, and the salchi cut are the best and you can't really go wrong with any of their meats. As like every other KBBQ restaurants, you get loads of banchan and can get refills on them. When we ordered our beef platter, it also came with a small soup to share as well as egg soufflé and cheese corn! This place is always busy during Fri/Saturday dinner and the only annoying thing is that you can only access the restaurant via the elevator which can be super busy at times. The restaurant itself is very lively and while we were there, there must have been 4 birthday celebrations in our section. They flicker the lights and turn up the music so it's definitely a fun vibe for a night out! The staff were very attentive and came to check on us frequently in between cooking for us, but not to the point where it felt overbearing and rushed. Overall, I'd recommend checking this place out even if it is a bit pricey compared to AYCE options since the quality is much better so you get what you pay for. They even have a separate AYCE location nearby as well and a separate floor within the same building as the OG Jongro for gopchang. This is an incredible lunch deal. We went at 1pm and there was plenty of seats. You get a main and a couple dies for $9.99. I went with 2 other friends and we got to try the tteokbokki (rose), kimchi & scallions pancakes, and the soft tofu stew. I went in with decent expectations and walked out full, happy, and already planning my next visit. I ordered the bulgogi and my partner ordered the short rib lunch specials.
