This was my first time to a Korean BBQ restaurant, so i had no idea you could get a table with a cook top to prepare your food!!! Their tables fot 4 nicely, but the booth next to it can fit four more, so a party of eight could have a fun night out making Korean food together! We opted for food that was already prepared. I had a great spicey stew and my boyfriend had a rice dish. Both entrees were excellent! We added fried dumplings to the meal which were very tasty. The service was extremely friendly!! I was disappointed by their service. We ordered a few orders of saeng galbi and chadol. There weren't many side dishes which is normally unusual for a Korean restaurant, but the meats were delicious. Other than the food, the service was pretty terrible. The server did not wear a mask and told us she can't really wear one because she's busy which did not logically make sense at all.. Why does wearing a mask have anything to do with being busy? She seemed very irritated and tired to work when taking or delivering our order. The rice and soup came out when we finished the meal which was way later than the time we asked. Other than the service, the food was good though. read more

This is a clean, spacious restaurant with friendly and efficient staff who provide excellent service. Unfortunately, the food was extremely disappointing. The fried dumplings were funky smelling. The soondubu (soft tofu) soup was inedible because they just dumped cold tofu into the tasteless soup. All cuts of bbq/grilled meats were below average except for the marinated rib meat, which was worse than terrible because it was as tough to chew as leather shoe bits because of excessive amounts of tough cartilage and veins. All marinated meats were too sweet. The cold noodle was a bit sweet but tolerable but the problem is that it gave me a terrible indigestion (I was the only one to eat the noodle and none of my guests had indigestion). So as friendly as the staff was, I just cannot recommend this restaurant. read more

The brisket portion size is just sad... we had to add cold noodle and seafood pancake to fill ourselves We ended up paying $80 for two adults and a 14 month old baby who apparently isn't really eating much.. $40 per person is just not worth it. Not to mention service is below average. We had to remind them for side dish after 10mins we started to eat. I asked for the bill but had to wait 10 mins until I had to get up to call them for it again... people are nice but just not paying much attention Overall poor experience. We had lunch here the other day and it was ok. We noticed that there was a new table divider and we noticed that the same older ladies weren't there. When we asked, it turned out a new owner just started on that previous Thursday. We got a table so we could grill meats and they said that the quality of meat was better than before. I thought before it was ok...so I was expecting much better. However, the pieces of meat to be grilled was marinated ok but the quality of meat was about the same, just thicker. Thicker made it actually harder to cook evenly and for my mom to chew. I wasn't a fan. The side dishes were good enough and we enjoyed what we had. However, they need to get rid of that rambling piano music that started to get on my nerves after a while. They're better off just playing elevator music instead of that stuff. It sounded like a recording of someone just messing around on the piano - but not played very well. As my father is a musician it was something he noticed right away. For the galbi and the portion and price it is what I would consider on the expensive side. Service was really good though and attentive so they do well on that point. I went there yesterday with a few friends after stopping by King Spa for some relaxation. The place was clean, the staff was exceptional and incredibly patient, the food was delicious. We did bbq. None of us are native Koreans and I was the only one that had eaten Korean BBQ before. I had a certain amount of expectations that the other two did not. Here's the run down: Our waiter was Jun. Jun was super sweet and patient and explained the menu to us calmly. He have recommendations for soju and wine and was diligent about coming back to our table to save us from ourselves ("hey guys! This pork belly looks about done so....."). The drinks were great. The food was great. We were laughing the whole time and everyone made us feel at home. One of the waiters even ran after me to give me my phone when I left it at the table. I'd come back again in a heartbeat! read more

I do not recommend this place at all. Years ago I came here because I liked the meat. But a month ago and was extremely disappointed. We got galbi, which came out so late. We had to keep asking for water but didn't come even after ringing the bell 3 times. The waitresses would pass by our table and without asking if we needed anything. There were only two waitresses on a weekend. I would understand if there were a lot of ppl. But there were only 4 tables filled that day. I also ordered the dakdori tang, which was mediocre. Came here at 11am on a Sunday. Although options were limited, the kimchi jigae was the best I've had out here in the midwest. Hubby and I will definitely come back and try the kbbbq. I was pleasantly surprised at the level of service at this restaurant and the quality of food. We had ordered the sirloin for 3, and the pork bulgogi for 1 (there were the 3 of us). Trust me when I say this... this is a lot of food for 3 people. 6 healthy portions of sirloin steaks came out to grill. Insiders tip! Ask the server to only start with two steaks. Why you ask? Because sirloin when overcooked because very, very tough. Also, depending on how you like your steak cooked, you can manage this (i.e. rare, medium rare, etc). The steak isn't a thick cut steak, it's about 1/2 inch thick so it cooks fairly quickly. We cooked the sirloin first and the pork bulgogi second. The seasoning on the pork bulgogi will flavor/caramelize the pan. You can always have the pan changed if you decide to cook the pork first. During our visit we also had a beer that wasn't on the menu: Kloud Beer. Pretty good for a lager. it tastes like OB and Hite. Not a great beer but if you're looking to try another Korean beer they do have this option available. The server was also very accommodating. My boyfriend is American and I'm Korean. I was with my dad who speaks both but whenever the majority of the group is Korean, most Korean servers tend to fix the conversation on us. The server here though would ask the preferences to my boyfriend in English and ask us in Korean which meant a lot to me. He made sure that we were all taken care of. read more

Why don't you ASK me if I'm going to cook meat instead of seating me wherever you feel like it? So I tell them. What do they do? Nothing. Luckily, we don't cook meat. We just want some soup. Some warm, filling sul lung tang that will make our disgusting headache go away. I order galbi with soon tofu that comes on the side, and my boyfriend gets the sul lung tang. Wait... Do I want to go into detail? Yes. I do. Sul lung tang? Why the hell is it so thick? They made it like a jjiggae and added white bean in it like one of those cold noodle dishes. That's wrong. Wrong wrong wrong. Then.. Soon tofu was ok, but it's just spicy. Not tasty. Just spicy. And I LOVE spicy... When it's tasty. But of all the food, the soon tofu was the best. Then the galbi. Why is it luke warm? And why is it so thin and cooked unevenly? And why are the onions underneath it not cooked? And why does it look like you cooked it somewhere else and placed it on a griddle where you should have cooked it in the first place? You have a restaurant ring next door to a huge Korean market, and your quality of food is crap. Even the banchan was just whatever. And on a Saturday night, you were dead. I went home and threw up. It sounds like this place has gone downhill when compared to the first reviews from here last year. The quality of the meat was good, but the service, banchan, and general cleanliness were all lacking. Read on for more details... I came here for dinner at about 7:00pm on a Friday night. There were only a few other occupied tables, so we were seated promptly. The server did speak English, but did not understand too well. The conversation went something like this: Me: Do you have any recommendations for BBQ meat? Server: Most people like A-1 (marinated kalbi). Me: That sounds good. Now do you have a recommendation for non-marinated meat? Server: A-1 is marinated and most people like it. Me: Which is a good non-marinated meat? Server: Non-marinated doesn't have much flavor and most people don't like it. Me: Do you have a favorite meat that is not marinated? Server: Try A-1 because most people like it. I should add that she recommended we get one order of meat per person and there were three of us. We were trying to order a variety of meat to try, but the waitress did not understand my question and I ended up calling a Korean friend to make some suggestions (two of us were Thai and the third was Chinese). We ended up ordering standard marinated kalbi, unmarinated kalbi, and some unmarinated sliced rib-eye. It was served with rice, soup, lettuce, scallions, sauce and an assortment of banchan. I'd say the meat was a pretty good quality, as I favored the unmarinated meat. However, the sauce could have used more sesame oil and less salt. Everyone else preferred the marinated kalbi. The banchan was definitely lacking. Kaktugi was the only one of seven or so dishes that I liked. There was also this odd gelatin thing with black sesame seeds and hot sauce (similar to the kaktugi) that I had never seen before. Fish cakes and bean sprouts were two items I was looking forward to that were missing. During the course of the meal, the waitress did not come back to refill our waters or check on us otherwise. To her credit, the restaurant was significantly busier when we left than it was when we arrived. However we did not see her again until the end of the meal when we were ready for our check. After eating, we chatted for a while and noticed a few fruit flies flying around the leftover banchan. My sister also pointed out that there was a dead fruit fly squished between the pages of her menu. Not a good sign... In the end, it's doubtful that I'll return here despite living only a few minutes away. There are a few other Korean restaurants in the area (even more in the city) that I feel provide a much better overall experience. read more

Oh god. Never again will I visit this place. I thought I'd give this place a try. Hey, it's about 2 minutes from my place, I'm Korean, it's Korean food - what can go wrong? EVERYTHING. First off, there was a sewage-y smell going on because something was wrong with the plumbing (and yet we were seated right next to smelly area despite there being like 3 other tables full at lunch time). So we move our butts over to a window seat and order. The food was disgusting - the meats were more fat than actual meat, they got our dishes wrong and just stared at us stupidly when we told them and then took ages to bring out the correct items. The Korean waitress seemed more concerned with puttering about the front area doing nothing and the Mexican waitress (?) had her two little kids running up to her and would go away. In the middle of serving our food. Think of how sad my poor little bowl of rice and jjigae would have felt. And to top off our lovely meal, we found we were overcharged for our meals. Yes, they changed it to the correct price but really? You'd think they'd pay a little more attention - especially after that little fiasco with the food. read more

About a 2-2.5: I came here with my mom and my husband for lunch on a weekend. I ordered the So Gogi Dol Suht Bi Bim Bop, which came in a clay-oven bowl full of rice, seasoned spinach, slices of mushrooms, thin slices of bulgogi pieces, a yolk of an egg, and bean sprouts. There is a small ketchup bottle-sized red pepper bean paste in which you squirt in the bowl to mix it all up. I thought the sauce was way too sweet, so I wasn't a fan of that. The rice was overdone and was very wet as they had put too much water in the ricecooker. My mom ordered the Kong Bee Jee, which was like a tofu porridge. It was bland and quite underseasoned. My husband ordered the Bi Bim Neng Myun, which was basically red bean pepper paste-like sauce which is mixed with the buckwheat noodles, which was okay. Out of all the banchans, I preferred the mook with soy sauce with scallions drizzled on top, even though theirs was dry. The ggakdoogi was good and well-fermented, so that was a plus! Went here after a morning of relaxation at King Spa. We went at 1 PM on a Wednesday and there were probably 3 or 4 groups there. Pretty large space for a very little following. But it could be different on the weekend, I don't know. We were seated right away, were served hot tea (in glass cups for whatever reason, it was too hot to hold properly), and the waitress promptly took our orders. She seemed nice enough. But after bringing our food to us she kind of disappeared somewhere and if she did magically appear to clear off another table or see another customer, it was hard to get her attention. She checked up on us on her own just once during the whole meal. I'm usually accustomed to being checked up on at least 2 or 3 times. There weren't even many people there. I ordered Seollongtang (). I consider myself a connoisseur of Seollongtang (Not really, but I generally do order it at every Korean restaurant I go to), so I've been around. I probably would have been better off eating at King Spa or H-Mart because it was nothing spectacular. The broth tasted a bit watery and not too flavorful. I don't know if it was because they knew I wasn't Korean or what but the waitress didn't serve it with rice. I've had this dish in different places and I've always had it with rice. When I asked her if she could bring me some she looked at me and kind of laughed like, "Oh, so she does know how to eat it." And she continued to giggle as she gave me rice. The three stars is mainly because of the service because it felt a bit lacking in some areas. The only thing it's got going for itself are their fairly cheap prices. If I had a better experience here and they had delicious, to-die-for food, I probably would prefer going here instead of eating inside King Spa where the prices are much higher. read more

I love Korean food and love my Korean friends BUT..... I hate the way outsiders are treated at every Korean restaurant I have been to. This place was no different, the service was slowwww..... We saw our waitress once when she took our order and never saw her again. They try to get away without serving us the sides that comes with every Korean dinner (Kimchi, Blackbeans & etc.) Why? If I don't want it, I would tell you, no. Food was good but FAIR service would have been much appreciated. If I remember correctly, I have to pay just like any Korean patrons, so why not provide me the same service. Here is the kicker, the check comes and guess what? We did not get the rice dessert wine that they clearly provide to every table along with the check so again we have to ask for that too. I just joined yelp because I was horrified by my experience here. I went with 3 friends because we were shopping at HMart and decided we wanted to get some Korean food at a restaurant. 3 of us are Korean (including me), so we know what to expect as far as Korean restaurants go. First off, the waitress (Olivia(?)) was unfriendly-- from the get-go, one of my friends asked if we'd done anything to piss her off or something. Not exactly the picture of congeniality. We asked them to refill our side dishes because we were less than a third through our meal and we were basically out (one thing left on each side dish-- nobody ever wants to be the one to take the last morsel). I just generally waved my hand over the table and asked her to refill them, and she gave us crazy attitude and said she doesn't want us to waste the food. We were just beginning our meal and were already out-- I didn't think we were going to "waste" anything, and what's with the attitude anyway? Another lady (an older lady who ran the register but sometimes came out) was even worse. When I asked if we could order from the lunch menu, she said only on weekdays. I asked half-jokingly if they could make an exception (because I'd heard that others had gotten away with it in the past) and she gave me a dirty look and turned away. Then, at the end of the meal, when we asked for separate checks, she gave us our receipts and said, "You'll have to give at least 2 dollars tip each, alright?" Seriously, we decide your tip, not you. It's a tip for goodness sake, and it's not like you deserve it. And the food for each of us was just over 10 bucks-- so you're demanding a 20% tip for terrible service...really? Will never come back unless the service/management improves. I'd rather cook it at home. read more

Quite spacious and clean for a Korean restaurant. Shocking! Layout of the place was nice. We got seated in a big booth so we could get our BBQ on. We kept it simple for our entree. Single portion of Marinated kalbi and single portion of unmarinated kalbi. The amt of ban chan was adequate, and the ingredients looked fresh. Why the 2 stars? Wait...flaggin down server/hostess. Ringing the bell for help & nobody shows up, so flagging down another server to take our order. Ok ok.. service in most Korean bbq places are subpar, but this restaurant was a bit extreme. It wasn't busy nor chaotic. My conclusion: they were extremely short staffed and failed to realize that to serve is to check up on the customers and TAKE ORDERS. The marinated kalbi was a bit overly marinated. Too salty for my taste buds. The unmarinated one was good. We ordered another portion of it. Arirang is close and convenient, but service is such a vital factor to my dining experience. Arirang didn't cut it. read more

The first time we went I'd say this was a 4 star place. Second time 2 star. Average 3 stars. There was a difference (key in my mind) between the 2 visits. The first time was with a Korean friend, the second time was not. It could be language barrier and comfort but still, that cannot explain it all away. Food-wise it was ok both times. The prices are comparable to other Korean restaurants in Chicagoland but honestly, the quality is just okay. I ordered soondooboo (EXTRA SPICY!) and my mom ordered jukaejang (again, EXTRA SPICY!). they were a little stingy with the side dishes as they first came out but if you ask for more, they give you triple the amount more than they did the first time around. both of the main dishes were excellent!! both were made very spicy as requested. i think i say this about every restaurant that isn't around downtown, I wish this restaurant was closer to where i live. :( i asked my mom if she ever had kalbi at this restaurant and she said she did, said it was good but expensive compared to other korean bbq restaurants. korean mothers always know where the best korean restaurants are. a word of advice for you all korean bbq lovers: don't come here for bbq. :) the decor in this restaurant is not hole in the wall-y like most korean restaurants out there. it's so clean and very bright. waitresses are very nice. prices are decent for soups. there's plenty of parking in the lot that's in front of the resturant. also, in the same plaza as hmart. surprisingly, the service was excellent!! maybe it was because i was with my mom who is korean. and she also complimented on how pretty i was. ha! i will be coming back when ever i visit my parents again. :) read more
