From beginning to end the experience was great. I'd reached out to multiple companies, planning to take numerous bids, but amazingly found that few were unresponsive. FCR on the other hand was quick to respond to my inquiry on their website Contact page and were quick to set up the estimate appointment. The downside was I needed to wait two weeks. In the meantime I met the Project Manager from another company and was pleased with the experience, except that I never received a bid even though we texted several times. Rob Quinlan from FCR was similarly on time, but his amiability, professionalism, and communication, both in person and in subsequent texts, set him apart. He has excellent follow through, too, as our gates attest! He also really knows the ins and out of gates. When I said I wanted ours to be pushed open from the street side, Rob asked if we had a pool. It turns out that if one has a swimming pool, the gate legally has to swing out to the street. Rob explained that pulling a heavy gate is harder for little kids than pushing it, making it less likely they can access a backyard and drown! I was so impressed with Rob that I told him then and there that I wanted to move ahead with FCR. I received the quote and a contract later that day. It showed the options for the two different types of Redwood. Rob had explained that the photos one sees of beautiful fences are always made of the more expensive wood, from the heart of the tree. I had said that was the one I wanted, but it was still great to see options and prices laid out. I was able to sign the contract electronically. It was another two weeks before the actual installation, but the day of the work was fast and smooth. The crew and Rob arrived separately and on time. We all discussed every detail afresh, this time with Hector and Paco weighing in with their own expertise. There was some discussion among the men as to how and where to install the posts for the new double gate so that it would stay strong for the long term. I was consulted as well and made it clear that longevity and easy operation were paramount to me. I also mentioned that I was nervous about the possibility of there being a pipe to the house in that area, one that was private and therefore not marked by the utility companies. (Rob had done his company's legal duty of arranging the 8-1-1 Dig Ticket ahead of the work day). Rob took me seriously and walked out to the sidewalk, saw that there was indeed a drainage outlet there and told Hector to dig slowly and attentively. Rob left for the day and Hector and Paco got to work. Hector did find the water pipe about 12" down, right where the post was supposed to go. He had me come out and see the situation. He gave me two options: place the post over the pipe, in which case it would lack endurance for the long term, or go two feet down in the hole he had already dug closer to the house. I opted for the deep hole and the reliable fence. I was glad to have been consulted. I was grateful for Hector's having found the pipe without damaging it. Both gates and the small fence surrounding them were completed between 8am and 3pm. The areas were all cleaned up. Hector had me come out and assess the work. The gates have easy and sturdy hardware on them. They open and close with ease, swinging into the backyard as specified. They're attractive, substantial, and show every sign of enduring. I knew from the good communication that I could simply hand the check to Hector. Rob was going to come by to make sure I was happy but I said I was exceedingly pleased and insisted he didn't need to. He followed up with a text nevertheless to double check and I gave him a glowing, detailed review. Later that day I received an invoice showing I had paid. I couldn't be any happier than to have trusted this work to FCR Fence & Deck.

Jose brings an incredible amount of expertise, hard work, and enthusiasm to every job. He is very communicative throughout the process and works efficiently while still maintaining a very high standard. It is clear he cares deeply about doing the job right. I hired him for two projects to restore wood that had been badly maintained over the years. From the start, he was upfront about realistic expectations and worked closely with me so the final result would be both beautiful and aligned with my personal taste, even with the challenges from past wear and damage. His process is meticulous. He carefully preps, conditions, and treats the wood so the finish looks great and will last. One of the projects he worked on was restoring our outdoor patio seating, which had been heavily worn down by the elements. It had become rough, uncomfortable to sit on, and even left little splinters. Jose transformed it completely. The wood is now smooth, almost velvet to the touch, and looks beautiful again. He also took the time to tighten loose planks so everything feels solid and well cared for. If you need help restoring decks, outdoor wood furniture, benches, railings, or other exterior wood, Jose is exceptional. I am thrilled with the results and will absolutely work with him again.

We went with a Fiberon composite deck, with contrasting borders, he also had to demo some very stubborn concrete. Although we went over budget and there were some delays, the finished product looks amazing and could not be happier with the quality of work that was delivered. Chris Anthony was also reasonable and worked with us on the final payment. Would recommend!

We recently engaged Chris and company to build us a deck. When he came to give us a quote, we found…read morethat he was able to help us with a few other things we needed in our backyard as well such as wiring and installing light fixtures. He gave us a fixed quote for the deck and then an hourly rate for everything else. In terms of quality of the work, we couldn't be happier. Our deck, which includes a custom bench wrapping around a retaining well, looks great. Chris was good about consulting us at every step and ensuring that things were turning out to our liking. He's also incredibly detail oriented and was proactive about helping us find the the right paint and fixtures for the back of our house. Many other contractors we've dealt with seemed to do the bare minimum according to what we relayed but it seems Chris took pride in his work and ensured everything was done well. The reason I can't give 5 stars however is that the last interactions I had with Chris were not positive. We paid him whatever he asked for as the work went along. When it came to the second to last payment he asked for the remaining amount we owed him on the deck plus half of an estimate of the additional work his team did. Again, we happily paid but the one thing I requested was a proper invoice for the additional work. He said ok but it might be hand written. I said that was fine. A few weeks later, after the rest of the work had completed, he asked me for final payment that week. That wasn't a problem but I asked again for a final invoice, mostly out of principal so I didn't feel like I was throwing random amounts of money at people. He then texted me a 350+ word text meant to represent the work we need to pay him for that I couldn't make any sense of (no commas, no bullet points, no hours/cost associated with each item). At the very end of the text, he also added that he needed me to understand all the work he did for us and that he hoped I would sleep better at night. His attempt to guilt trip me for asking for something as normal as an invoice left a very bad taste in my mouth. For what it's worth, I don't think he was trying to cheat us. It mostly just felt lazy and unprofessional to then guilt trip a customer for asking for something pretty common. Would I recommend his work: probably yes but also don't believe the service was 5 stars.

It's not my first deck project so I knew repairs and maintenance do not require a permit. Octavio was the only one who figured out the logistics of getting a Bobcat on-site and offered a clear path forward. While we worked with a separate landscape designer, Octavio's on-the-ground expertise actually improved the final result. He suggested practical modifications to the original terrace and retaining wall plans that better suited our terrain, which saved us significant costs. Beyond the major earth-moving, he handled: - Full Front Yard Renovation: High-quality work at a very fair price. - ADU Infrastructure: Trenching and installation for electric, water, and sewer lines. - Finishing Touches: Expert irrigation, lighting, and planting. What truly sets him apart is his character. When raccoons tore up our new sod, Octavio offered to repair it under warranty, even though it wasn't his fault. If you have a 'impossible' yard or just want someone honest and highly skilled, Octavio is your guy.
