We first discovered the majesty that is Arista about ten years ago. It is our absolute favorite winery for Pinot Noir, and it all starts with Russian River Valley!!! We've done several tastings here over the years, and decided to reserve a sit-down tasting with meats, cheeses, crackers and nuts. It was very elegant, sitting outside under one of the large trees. When you finish your tasting, inside or outside, you must walk the grounds, and get some amazing pictures of the landscape. They have a quaint little table for two covered by an umbrella, and wonderful scenery along the path. It felt like we had drifted off to Shangri-la! read more

Their chardonnays were also unique - definitely on the fruitier side, not your typical buttery chard. They actually reminded me more of a semi dry Riesling with some sweeter notes. It's easy to get to, with ample parking. Once there, they will get to enjoy a wide variety of scenery, several gardens, modern facilities, and delicious wine. The noise ordinance is a bummer, but there's nothing wrong with getting a party started early! You will have an even better time at Arista than your guests. Our first stop on the wine-tasting journey turned out to be one of the better stops we made. The grounds are a bit of a drive through some back roads from Santa Rosa but it is well worth the trip. The property has a great aesthetic, besides obviously being a vineyard they also have a very well taken care of set of gardens with the Japanese garden off the tasting room being amazing, both with its plantings and views of the Mayacamas Mountains in the distance. Out tasting consisted of 1 white, their Chardonnay, and 4 reds, 1 Zinfandel and 3 Pinots. The Pinots were by far the best with everyone in agreement that Coast was their favorite. Our tasting host was engaging and very helpful in trying to locate everyone's specific flavor profiles and either offering or refilling our glasses based on our preferences. The tasting fee is nominal but I got it waived for all of us since I ordered 8 bottles including some older vintages in magnums that we tasted in 750s. All in all a great spot and a good value for California Pinot. read more

We absolutely love coming to Arista and cannot wait to continue our membership here for years to come. If you are simply coming for a tasting - it is worth your money. You will receive 5 amazing wines that are tasted side-by-side. The pours are generous and you will also get a charcuterie board to compliment the wine. It does take a while to get on the A-list, but if you fall in love while you are visiting (trust me, you will), there is absolutely no reason why you should not sign up. Awesome garden for picnics and relaxing outside. We went to 2 winery before this and decided maybe we should do a glass of their popular Zinfandel and Pinot noir... And so we did and took it outside. Their picnic area felt like a Japanese zen garden. It had many different trees and even white like sand. It was very peaceful and relaxing. We sat and had a picnic with some their wine and brought out own cheese, pears, and crackers to munch on. Winery was busy inside where there was AC (maybe bc it was 90+ degrees outside. The tasting room was pretty big compared to the other 2 we went to. Bar was full all around. Tasting was a tad bit more pricey than the smaller boutiques. This was our favorite stop of the weekend. The wines are spectacular, the staff were helpful, funny and welcoming and this was by far our most relaxed tasting of our visit. We were able to take our glass and stroll around the property, all the way down to where the goats and sheep were happily mowing away at a meadow across from the road. The grounds are beautiful and serene and I would love to come back and picnic here at some point. We probably spent at least an hour during our visit and could have easily stayed longer. I've taken quite a few trips to Sonoma to taste and this was more first attempt to be focused on a particular region. I'd been to Russian River Valley on a separate occasion and absolutely fell in love with this area. We ended up on Arista due to an article in the SF Chron or something equivalent. Need I say more but this place definitely delivers on amazing natural / wild fermented (i.e. yeast extracted from the air) Pinot Noirs. For those that don't know, this can be very difficult to do right. Some poorer outcomes will yield something that tastes very sour, like almost vinegary, which indicates the presence of contaminants. That's not the case here, the winemaker displays an exception ability to harness those more intricate flavors while still making offering that are palatable, balanced, and light-to-medium body. This place is the reason I love Pinot Noirs. I walked away with the Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, which exceptionally showcased the terroir and had a more reasonable price point. That being said, you're just not going to go wrong here. read more

They have the cutest little Japanese Garden and Bench area where you can take along your own Picnic and relax for the afternoon while sampling the wines which is a nice touch. We visited for the first time, so no idea what to expect. Our host was charismatic and fun. He took the time to get to know each guest and by the end of the tasting, we were all laughing and joking around like old friends. The uniqueness of the wine comes in part from not filtering the wine which maintains the purity of the flavor notes. I walked away with a couple bottles that I thoroughly enjoyed. While on the pricey side, $80+ a bottle for white wine, it was delicious. I highly recommend it. read more

Very late review here. Came in last year with a group of six on super bowl Sunday. Yes it wasn't that busy so we were able to walk in and have an amazing tasting! It is also becoming extremely exclusive, reservations are now required for the tastings and there is a waitlist to join their wine club. And once you're in, you must buy part of your allocation to remain in the club. Besides the beautiful Pinots they produce, there is a Ritchie Vineyard Chardonnay we really enjoy and a tasty Zinfandel. Arista Winery was our favorite winery of the ones we visited on our first trip to Sonoma three years ago. Since then, we've been back twice, and while it's gotten more popular (it was packed today), it's still our favorite! You know they've gotten big when you Google search and see Arista Winery comes before the Arista record label! Family owned with extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff, gorgeous grounds, and of course fabulous wine... Our first visit years ago, the tasting was free of charge. Now there are two tasting menu options - one is five bucks and the other, for the premium tasting, is ten. Either way, it's worth it... They are known for their Pinot, but we're also fans of their Gewurztraminer and Syrah. Mark, manager of day to day operations and assistant winemaker at Arista, is incredibly passionate about what he does and we've connected with him on each of our visits. Sadly I did not have a good experience at this winery. We made an appointment for a party of 6 people and they sat us in a private area on a picnic table outside of the main building. Our host came 20 minutes later to pour us the wine tasting than left us for 20 minutes without hanging around to provide information on the winery, the wine and vintages, and answer questions. She came back again to pour us the next set of tastings than left again.... I had filled out a communication card and had originally selected some wines to purchase, however, she never came back and we ended up leaving. I wrote them 2 emails to provide feedback and also to cancel my order, BUT I never received any emails in response and now just received an email that my wines are being shipped. Arista, is this how you follow up with your customers?! You need to improve on your customer service and need to take care of your customers, otherwise, you will slowly lose your following. read more

I had an errand to run yesterday: I had to pick up some wine at Arista Winery. The winery is 15 minutes drive west on Healdsburg Square but if feels like a world away. You could in anywhere Americana countryside. You could be in Tuscany in Italy. It was a beautifully warm day. The sun was shining and in the late afternoon, there was only me and two other cars. I had called in advance so my case of wine was ready for pickup in the tasting room. The young lady working there was so sweet. She carried the case of wine to my car and loaded it into the trunk. She mentioned the Japanese rock garden at the side of the tasting room and it seemed incredible to me that there was so much well-thought out planning for the ambiance. What lovely grounds! And I found several nooks to sit in where I can enjoy some dappled sunshine. If you have a chance to venture out of town (a little way off from Healdsburg Square), make your way to Arista Winery and taste their Pinot Noir. Then come back later once they release their upcoming Chardonnay. read more

Of the 10 wineries we visited on our trip to Sonoma this fall, Arista stood out as the hands-down favorite amongst a varied group of 6 people. Impressive, eh? STAFF: 5 stars. On arriving, a staffer happily welcomed us. He told us that our scheduled tasting would start on time in a few minutes and while waiting for us to walk around and enjoy the Japanese tea garden. Our host and his intern were stellar, hanging with our raucous personalities yet still being very professional and courteous. He explained each wine without being snobbish or condescending. As we approached closing time, another staff member every-so-kindly approached us to tell us "While you can't stay here, you don't have to go home." Yes, we know, time to leave. Thanks for a stellar wine tasting experience. FACILITY: 5 stars. We had a private tasting in a small gazebo out back. The woodwork was phenomenal. The Japanese tea garden landscaping breathtaking. This was the only winery that made us feel comfortable enough to stay and enjoy another bottle of wine on site. WINE: 5 stars. Every bottle was great. Some were greater than others. In the end, we bought several bottles to cellar and perhaps a few to drink sooner. I drank what is (in my opinion) THE BEST Pinot Noir that has every touched my lips. I have much to say about one of the finest wineries in Nor Cal, or perhaps ever! I have been to many wineries all over Sonoma, Napa, Calistoga and the beauty and charm at Arista is unparalleled! Beautiful Grounds, Amazing Wine, and Staff that feel like family! Seriously who else has JAPANESE BOTANICAL GARDENS onsite? Who else has 3 completely different spaces on one lot, Who else has Pinot's that will knock your socks off, and Who else has a place that makes you feel completely zen even on your wedding day? Arista does!!! So many of our guests that are from all over the country even some as far as Australia commented that this was the most gorgeous location for a wedding they could have ever imagined. Both Beth (Admin Assistant) and Meredith (Events Manager) were nothing but kind and helped us every step of the way. Every question we had, any small detail we didn't know how to take care of- these ladies were on top of it! It's a single vineyard and estate, so you can only get their wines through the club or tasting room. They have some great pinots and a wonderful 2007 Anderson Valley Gewurztraminer. I'm really liking the gewurzt these days, but nothing beats a rich, dense pinot in my book...like satin on your tongue. It's a small tasting room, family run and friendly. There is a pretty garden bordering the locale and you are free to roam with your glass or lovah and take in the tastes and sites. It really was a non-pretentious atmosphere. I think we had about 6 tastes and all were full of flavor and just right for just an evening out on the porch or for a nice sit down dinner. read more

I was looking forward to this visit especially after the rave reviews on Wine Enthusiast, but was a little underwhelmed with the selection that was poured during our visit. The Willamette Valley wine was average. The best one was the Perli Vineyard wine from their Mendocino Coast vineyard, which was also the priciest one on their menu that day at $75 bottle. Tastings are $20 per person, which is waived after you buy 2 bottles. You can walk around their Japanese gardens while drinking wine, or even have a picnic on their grounds (no outside wine or liquor allowed). read more

Opened a bottle of 2006 Pinot we had been saving and it BLEW MY MIND! Excellent wine; in fact, I did not realize wine can be this delicious. Definitely worth driving another 20-30 minutes north to Healdsburg (also beats the standard fare of Napa and Sonoma).
