Went to this winery to pick up some wine my friend had paid for, and stayed to do a tasting. Eddie took care of us very well, letting us try a variety of their award-winning wines. Great venue and lots of patio seating, quite relaxing and picturesque setting. We did buy what they call a "Mystery Case", a selection of wines which retail for well over $500, for $279. I love this place, honestly its probably my favorite winery in the entire valley. I grew up with russian river wine and these guys make my favorite Zins hands down. There's another famous winery a few minutes away and honestly I think Mazzocco smokes them. Every time I show up to pick up a case everyone is really friendly and it feels very classic Healdsburg, not the higher pressure Napa experience. Everything about the tasting room is classic and perfect, the views are wonderful and it just smells right. Its worth it to come to Healdsburg just for Mazzoco, I guarantee it. read more

I've been a wine club member at Mazzocco for a number of years now. Each time I stop in I am greeted by friendly people, some who know me by name. I have remained a member here because of several reasons. The location is good The people are friendly The wine is excellent The events are fun They have live music occasionally Being a member here makes you a part of a group of wineries (The Wilson Family Wineries) which extend tasting and pricing perks to all members. The property is set in the dry creek growing area which is close enough to get to, but far away enough to be away from it all. We came in on a Thursday around 2pm. The tasting room was quiet and there were about three groups total. Our sommelier-Chris-was very friendly and knowledgeable. We appreciated his service. There is no food served here with "normal" tasting but you can bring your own goodies (which is what we did) The outside patio was great as the overall temperature was great!! Barely a sound just birds chirping and the subtle sound of wine being poured and of course drinking Mazzocco vast selection of fine wines. Not a bad wine in our glass. If you like Zinfandel... THIS is the place for you. If you do not, and you want to learn more about Zin or try different Zins, this is the place for you. They probably have over 2 dozen Zins at any given time, depending on harvest, yields, availability. They have seating inside and outside. It was a beautiful (yet chilly day) so we opted to start outside and then ended up inside when the wind kicked up around 3pm. (Note: They allow outside food so bring some snacks with you to nibble while you taste.) We started with a Chardonnay... oh yea... they do have a few whites, roses not many but a couple. This Chardonnay was not overly big, bold and buttery like some California Chards. This was a 2021 Alexander Valley Chardonnay that had light/medium, nice mouth feel (not super acidic), a tad of "fruitiness" on the palate and light light oak finish. We then proceeded to try 9 other red wines (8 of which were Zinfandel... 1 was a red blend) .... just a splash of most where my husband and I shared a few ... because... that's a lot of wine to taste. Had a hard time deciding on what we liked best. It was NOT a hard decision to join the wine club since I liked all their wines ..... I'm a fan of Zinfandel and the fact that they specialize in Zin is super fun to be able to try so many different ones side by side. Eddie (our host) was fun and filled us in on tidbits and history of the winery, and was willing to indulge in my requests. Their price point is about what you'd expect these days... their Zins range from $30-175/bottle where most fall $40-65/bottle. They have a few wine club options... I went with 6 bottles twice a year where they pick the wines. Very reasonable IMO. They had other choices if you wanted more control over your shipments. Tasting fee is waived for Wine Club members (so if you join the same day as the tasting like I did, your tasting is waived.) CHEERS! PS... Their wine club also includes tastings at 10 other wineries where a couple have tasting rooms in downtown Healdsburg. AND... as a club member there are benefits to be enjoyed at several "artisan lodges". read more

I really like Mazzocco wine. The winery is beautiful, it's in a great location, and the hosts are super laid back. The wines are excellent, especially if you enjoy big bold reds. Some of them are the more restrained style, so if you prefer that, let your host know and they will happily guide you to those preferred wines. Mazzocco has some really nice values on cases of wine, and I always recommend considering those while at the winery. read more

Hands down, this was one of the BEST wine tasting experiences we've ever had! On 1/31, six of us got together for a fun day out and chose just one winery to visit. As a member of a Wilson winery, we had plenty of incredible options -- but Mazzocco Winery has always held a special place in our hearts. This visit, though, completely exceeded our expectations! We tasted a wide selection of their outstanding wines, and not a single one disappointed. Their Zinfandels truly stole the show -- bold, rich, and absolutely unforgettable. I personally left with two full cases, including several bottles of our family favorite, the Maple Zin! Chris absolutely spoiled us. Not only did we enjoy phenomenal wines, but we also learned so much about the vineyards, the winemaking process, and even the how to read the labels. This place has a decent outdoor seating area but that's about it. Their wines are basically $12 grocery store quality, their salesmen are extremely pushy and downright insulting. I made the mistake of listening to someone else's recommendation to go there that I did not know well. Staying on a winery is the ultimate experience and Briar Cottage at Mazzocco did not disappoint. The cottage was super clean, there were 3 spacious bedrooms with super comfy beds and linens enabling our group of 4 ladies a good nights sleep, ready for our 3 nights/4 days of wine tasting and exploring Sonoma. Healdsburg is approximately a 9 minute drive away if you want shops and restaurants, but honestly the peace and tranquility of coming back to the cottage was heavenly. All this and having a fabulous tasting room steps away makes it one of our best stays in the area, we will definitely be booking here again. read more

I used to be a huge fan of Mazzocco... the winery and the wines, but that all went way south on my last visit. I'll start by saying the staff is still very nice but it ends there. I called the day before we arrived to see if they still offered the 2-4-1 tasting with the Signature Visa credit card. I spoke to a lady on the phone and was told they no longer do but she'd honor it for me. She asked that I make the reservation on line and put in the comments that I had spoken with her about it. We showed up for our reservation. We were seated outside which is lovely but within seconds... there were yellow jackets (bees) buzzing around us and increasing in numbers very quickly! We had to move inside the tasting room. Still a nice space but not the exact experience we had hoped for outside. We sat through our tasting of one white and the rest red wines... the reds were so dry that it literally pulled all of the moisture out of our mouths. We were extremely disappointed with the reds! We showed gratitude for each pour but it wasn't hitting it this visit. Hey... it happens. I get that. Vintages change. But everything was just very ehhh! When we were finished the server told us they were not honoring the 2-4-1 I was promised ahead of time. Mind you this was AFTER our tasting. Not before! Had we been told that before hand, it would have been more professional and reasonable. They did tell us that if we bought a bottle they'd waive our tasting. Two tastings = $50.00. A bottle is nearly the same price. So either way they were getting their $. We were not enjoying their wines this time and had no desire to buy anything. The Chardonnay wasn't terrible and it was only about $30.00, so I just took a bottle of that to satisfy their "deal". I do not like being lied to and trapped into a false deal. I find it extremely poor ethics to promise one deal and then, only after a tasting is done, charge up the deal to a higher priced option! That lost me as a future customer and honestly... Eddie helped us and he gave us a ton of information about the wines and was willing to let us try anything that was open. First time visiting Mazzocco and had a GREAT experience. We were a group of 11+ a baby and we were seated in our own private room upstairs which was perfect for our noisy group. Dani assisted us, and she made our experience the best. This was our first winery stop of the day, and there was no topping this winery. Wine was really good, and the only thing that stopped me from becoming a member was that I'm not in the area enough to enjoy the member perks. For any future visits to Sonoma county, I'm including this winery on my trip. Forewarning-for larger groups, expect to be there 2.5-3hrs at least. We made the mistake of booking 3 wineries in 1 day and trying to limit our time at each one but, we didn't want to leave! read more

If you like Zinfandel- this winery is a must! The staff all wear masks and reservations are required right now - so call in advance. They have their own parking lot and a beautiful outdoor garden area. This winery is dog-friendly. We did a tasting which was 5 wines for $25. The pours were generous and the lady pouring our wines was knowledgeable and friendly. Out of our tasting, I really enjoyed the rose, the Aguilera Zin, and the Florence Reserve Zin. read more

This was the perfect first stop of a long weekend of wine tastings. We called on the drive up from SFO and they were able to accommodate our group with no issues. Our wine guide, Chuck, definitely made the stop as great as it was. He was very knowledgeable in the wines, the area, and the culture. The facilities were very pretty and comfortable and the wines were delicious. They have almost all Zinfandels but still offer a diverse pallet from many grape sources around the valley. read more

Mazzocco is one of the Wilson Family consortium of wineries and a personal favorite of ours. We have been visiting them for years whenever we are in the area. Consistently excellent wines. This year the focus is on Zinfandels. However, you may find other vintages available. Although the website says, "by appointment only", we called within a half an hour of arriving and they were very accommodating. They took great care of us. We joined this wineries club years ago, and when we make it out west, we always find a way to include this on our travels. To say that it is the excellent Zinfandel example of Sonoma County is an understatement. They specialize in zinfandels, so don't go there looking for a cab or something else. Since we were members, we were able to have a tasting reserved for, the two of us as well as two friends. Our host, Eddie, was absolutely fantastic! Charming and understanding, and extremely knowledgeable of the wines. On top of everything else, they had a spectacular sale going on and we ended up buying a case and shipping it back east. Went here for my cousins birthday. There was a total of 12 of us, a baby and 2 toddlers. Her husband reserved some tables ahead of time. We sat outside. The only thing I didn't like about the tables is because the umbrellas poles are dug into the dirt that you can't take them out to move tables around. So we had to sit in 3 separate tables. Eddie was an amazing host who did an amazing job taking care of my crazy family. We ordered the tasting flight which came with 2 whites and 3 reds and even if you're indoors or outdoors it's the same price. $25 per person. (2018 Sauvignon Blanc , 2017 Warm Springs Ranch Zinfandel, 2017 Stone Zinfandel, 2017 Smith Orchard Reserve Zinfandel, and 2017 Florence Petite Sirah) They also gave us some samples of 2 other Reserve wines that were on sale at the time which was actually pretty good! They will also ask you if you want to try anything else that they have that was not on the flight. My favorite wine had to be the Stone Zinfandel. Apparently, that's the popular one that everyone keeps coming back for too. Final thoughts: This isn't my first winery, but I will recommend this place to anyone and reserve with Eddie! This is probably the first wine tasting that I ever went to that didn't pour that much wine in your glass. It was the right amount for "wine tasting" but it's always more fun to get a bigger pour. read more

Yes, Mazzocco has it all. Tasted here with a group of friends and everything was pretty much perfect. The weather was gorgeous as was their patio. We relaxed on their comfortable sofas as we took in the views of their estate. Their grounds are surrounded by the prettiest vineyards. Their indoor tasting room is also quite stunning too. It's open and airy with sky high ceilings and large windows that overlook their patio and grounds. Eddie really made our time here even that much more enjoyable! As he poured each wine, he explained what we were tasting in great detail with passion. Damn, do I love a tenured wine steward! His personality and knowledge brought so much life to our tasting experience. The Zins are definitely king here! Mazzocco Sonoma is known for their Zinfandels and I can totally understand why because they are SCRUMPTIOUS! Their tasting menu featured 4 of their Zinfandels (3 of them award winning), and each and every one of them harbored such a unique taste! Fell in love with their 2016 Dry Creek Zin and took a bottle of it home with me. What's fun about their Zins is that many of them feature a blend of Petite Sirah. This makes for a rich, juicy, and jammy style Zinfandel that I love oh so much. If you're a fan of Zinfandels you mustn't miss a stop to Mazzocco whilst tasting in Dry Creek Valley. The tasting setup outside is beautiful. There are multiple private tables to choose from overlooking beautiful scenery. What we didn't love was having only one glass, so by the time she would come to give us more wine, I'd have to throw away my wine. They didn't have a pour bucket. We stopped here with some friends as we were touring through Geyserville and what not on a Sunday afternoon. Did not have any expectations but was told this is the place to go if you like Zinfandels. Well our "wine master" having given great explanations and recommendations. Ended up, walking out with a mixed case trying, smattering of their wines. Mazzocco is one of my favorite wineries currently! It's part of the Wilson winery family, and I've grown to really love Zinfandel over the past year. The winery itself has a great outdoor region with multiple seating areas to allow for comfortable enjoyment of their wines. I ended up joining their wine club after my first visit, and the benefits have been great. Not only is there the opportunity to enjoy their wine tasting, but also check out their sister wineries from the Wilson family. There's a good number of great Zinfandels in the Dry Creek Winery, and Mazzocco definitely produces some of the best ones. read more

We came here on our way up to Healdsburg for the weekend. The grounds of Mazzocco are absolutely gorgeous and relaxing for a wine stop. The staff was friendly and attentive despite there being a large wine tour group and several other large groups as well. We sampled some wine and took a coupe of glasses to enjoy outside in the shade. The clientele was diverse here as there was a couple with some very cute old dogs as well as both older and younger groups. Parking was easy and we enjoyed their Zin. Pros: Beautiful grounds, friendly staff, good zins, easy parking Cons: None Bottom line: A beautiful winery worth paying a visit to if you are in the area and looking for some good Zinfandel. read more
