Was referred to Dr. Syms by my family doc. I have ringing in my ears. He did some testing and told me I have slight hearing loss on my left ear. No reason for the ringing abd basically brushed me off when I said it was unbearable at times. Said there was nothing he could do and just suggested a follow up in 6 months. Even if all that's true, I did not appreciate his attitude towards me. He seemed bored that he even had to talk to me and made me feel like I was complaining about a little ringing. I have been extremely disappointed in my experience here, specifically in my attempts to purchase hearing aids. (Dr. Syms seems great, and provided information on hearing aids that are right for me that I had not heard before from any other audiologist). Besides being disorganized with what seems to be a lot of turn over, the biggest heartbreak was in losing $500 in a "non refundable fitting charge" that I was not told about beforehand. After learning that Arizona Hearing Center does not take insurance for hearing aids, but that I could purchase and submit a reimbursement request to my insurance company myself, I went forward with this only because I was not aware that this place would charge me $500 if my insurance reimbursement did not go through, and if I needed to return them. I did submit for reimbursement, but found out a couple weeks later that the information that Arizona Hearing Center gave me specifically to request reimbursement was not adequate (it was not the "superbill" that is needed to request reimbursement, and did not contain enough information to be processed by United Healthcare). By then my return window with Arizona Hearing Center was nearly up, and I had to return the hearing aids, minus the $500 fee that I was not aware of. You would think that if all patients need to submit for reimbursement from their insurance company, Arizona Hearing Center would be better at providing you with the correct reimbursement information needed by insurance companies. It feels like this place is just out to make money at your expense. I have new insurance now through a new employer, but I certainly will not be coming back here for hearing aids. read more

I moved from out of state and had hearing retested at ENT but audiologist there didn't deal with my brand of hearing aids. She gave me new audiogram with slight increase at 2 settings on one of my hearing aids . Asked this place for fee to adjust - $400. Called another place with good reviews $50 Guess which i picked? read more

Dr. Syms operated on my right ear several years ago and I had a very good experience with him. Recently I have been having a ringing in my ears and troubles hearing. Without hesitation I returned to see Dr. Syms and glad I did. The young lady who preformed my hearing test was very pleasant and friendly. Dr. Syms then examined my ears and explained in detail the results of the test, how the ear receives the sound the reason behind the ringing. He took his time to answer my questions and was in no hurry. My hearing add needs upgraded on my right and will need one on my left, which is what I expected. I would highly recommend Dr. Syms and his staff. read more

My husband was referred by another provider to come see Dr Syms. He saw Dr. The Dr had recommended a MRI but doc never followed through with it. When we ask about it, the girl at the front says he didn't mention it in his note. Well ok, so now what? He then referred him to his own hearing center. My husbands appointment was this morning @8:30am. No one there. We walk upstairs to tell them no one is downstairs and the girl at the front says "well she does come from Fountain Hills! And doesn't show up till 8:45am. Well don't make an appointment for 8:30 am if you can't make it to work on time! We left. Cal office Manager was told she doesn't come in before 9:30-10 she will have her call. Three hours go by I return the phone call was told "she's walking into a meeting she'll call you back. Later she calls I am now at the original doctor who referred us so I silence the call until I can speak with her and I step out to return call only to be told she is busy she will call me back. Hey Ms office Manager don't bother I spoke to the original office who referred us and advised them not to make any referrals to your office again. Very poor customer service! Fast, convenient. Quick. Professional. Seen less than 24hours after making appointment. Dr. Syms is an expert in his field, not merely an ENT specialist but also a neuro-otologist. BTW, I'm a physician myself, so I really appreciate how good Dr. Syms is. Every physician visit these days seems rushed, and there are reasons for that. The lady on the phone was so passionate about me knowing they are gonna want 250$.. before ever seeing me or running my insurance or even knowing my name!! This place is sketch. The office is ghetto the sidewalk outside says "RIP BABY BOY" if you think I'm playing come check out this dump. Dr. Syms was referred to us by another medical professional, whom we like and trust. Our first few experiences did not go well. The first visit we arrived at 1:30 for a 2 o'clock appointment. We were seen at 4. The second visit was for a 2:45 appointment. We arrived at 2:30. We were seen at 3:45. An HOUR behind schedule at the least. I heard another patient in the waiting room singing the doctor's praises AND mention how busy he always is. For my daughter, he looked in her ears and told us that he couldn't do anything to determine the cause of her hearing loss until she was 1 year old. But he wanted to see us at 6 months ... (to bill my insurance I'm sure) he said it was to make sure we don't slip through the cracks. So we were scheduled for appointments where no further assessments were done. That doesn't make any sense to me. More annoyingly, Dr. Syms has a poor bedside manner, Lucian Leape would be outraged. As a concerned parent, I want a person to address my concerns and give me information. He isn't friendly and isn't forthcoming with info. Why more than one star? His office staff has always been friendly and helpful. read more

I seem to have had a better experience than others... My wait was short and although I happen to agree that Dr. Syms really doesn't have the greatest bedside manner, he was professional, explained things very clearly and answered all my questions. The other staff members I met, including the PA I met with and the Audiology student who performed most of the tests, were pretty awesome and friendly. read more

I have to agree with Joanna. We were not impressed with this office or Dr. Syms. The first visit we waited over an hour past our appointment time and once we finally saw Dr. Syms he was just so.... abrasive. The second visit went better but in the end we decided this was not the best office for us. Our daughters case is not typical and we needed a Dr. we could be comfortable with to guide us and hear our concerns, not just ignore our concerns & give us no information or guidance. I saw this Dr once and will never return. I walked out of there feeling very confused and with no answers to my problem. He was very rude and arrogant. He walked in and didn't even bother asking why I was being seen and most of what he discussed wasn't even my problem.I would not recommend him to anybody. read more

Dr. Syms did a battery replacement for my Esteem implant and cut the main wires during the procedure. He ruined the entire unit worth $30K. No remorse and no acceptance of responsibility. Very arrogant! I urge any and all to stay clear of this incompetent doctor. It's all about him, not his patients. Believe me. read more

I was referred to Dr. Syms about 9 years ago by my regular ENT at the time who spoke very highly of him and then again by another ENT just recently. Dr. Syms and his staff were and are professional and courteous. At both times he thoroughly discussed my condition and his recommendations for treatment. Because the treatment could have potentially resulted in my having to give up scuba diving I chose to postpone the procedure until the pain became unbearable and/or my hearing had deteriorated such that I could no longer delay treatment. I am very pleased to report that I have now had a bilateral tympanoplasty and the results have far exceeded my expectations! I've had improvements in my hearing, surgical scars have healed beautifully and - best of all - I spent 3 weeks diving recently without pain or trouble clearing my ears - the first time in 15 years of diving. My only regret is not having had the procedure 9 years ago!! I believe that the excellent results I received are a direct correlation to Dr. Syms' talent and skill as a surgeon. I highly recommend him and I am most grateful that his work will allow me to continue to dive - a hobby that I am extremely passionate about! Thank you, Dr. Syms!! read more
