Great soccer tournament. My seven year-old grand was playing in it. The facilities are decent.

Horrible league. The owner has his favorites and the referees know nothing about soccer. All they care about is the money.

Be careful...I jumped to head in a ball to score and broke my leg in the land...so no pad it seemed between the turf and the concrete...

The after school chess program through the school systems was non-existent at our school, so we went searching for something to satisfy the chess player in the house. Phoenix Chess Academy was one of the few in person resources in the area and we really didn't want to see the kid sitting behind a screen even more than they already do so we checked out the Phoenix chess academy and decided to keep coming back. They offer classes, tournaments, and competitive tournament style sessions for K-12 students multiple times per week. Their website has the most up to date information, so check there first when looking for class times. Training sessions run $15 and $20 for a two hour session on sundays which include a blitz tournament for whomever shows up. Sure, you *could go watch a bunch of videos online, but learning strategies and tactics in person where you can ask questions and play your peers while looking them in the eyes seems more interesting to me. Sessions are show up and pay as you go, so show up, pay them and enjoy your hour of letting the kid play chess with other like minded kids.

They are capping the number of participants due to COVID-19, which is good, but it isn't a fun surprise for a kid with his heart set on entering a tournament that turns out to be full when he arrives!

Another child repeatedly charged at her, pushed her, and acted aggressively during class. When we brought it to the manager's attention, we were basically told, "We can't do anything about it, you can move classes." Before even reviewing the footage, they immediately sided with the other parents. The response was cold, dismissive, and showed zero concern for my child's safety. Saying "I'm sorry you feel that way" is not how you handle bullying involving young kids. At the end of the day, this place seemed more focused on avoiding the issue than properly addressing bullying and protecting the children involved. Safety, accountability, and empathy should come first. Also worth noting -- they are NOT BBB accredited. If you read the BBB reviews instead of only the Google reviews, you'll quickly see that we are not the only family with serious concerns about how this business operates. Very disappointed.

Coach Emma has been her coach for over a year and is our favorite! We recently had her third birthday party here and it was wonderful. They did a great job and the kids all seemed to have fun! Birthday parties occur in the afternoons and they only do one party at a time so you have the entire place to yourself. And if you are a member you'll receive a discount on your party package. There are two "floors" so two classes are often taking place at once but it isn't distracting. There are also two bathrooms, one of which has a changing station and diaper pail. If you are interested in trying it out your trial class is free :)

The incident not only caught us with a complete surprise but left our 6 y/o with the worst memory of her first ever chess tournament and probably has negatively affected her budding love for chess which I would never be able to repair. It is disappointing to see the staff(over staffed they said)not intervene when they see opponents moving random pieces during the game(multiple times), making pyramids with pieces off the board during a game, etc so much so that it would make a 6 year old emotionally upset(lots of tears) because they came looking to play a fun and fair game. Given the age, I am not upset at the child tampering with the game but at the authorities who didn't even say a word or something like: let's play by the rules or Buddy, please focus. Something?!!! Not even a word! There was no intervention what so ever and they just stood there watching the show of my 6 y/o crying nonstop. Upon asking them after the fact, we were told that they were waiting for my kid to raise hand for assistance. Are you kidding me? I was left speechless. These are 6 year olds you are dealing with for god's sake. God forbid if someone gets an asthma attack please don't wait for them to raise their hand for you to jump in and help. And miraculously that wasn't the case during the next round on that same kid's table. A teacher was constantly keeping an eye and intervening when a knight kills diagonally; all of this without a single hand being raised. Why the different treatment then? And when the parent is coming to show their concern instead of showing empathy and agreeing to the mistake you are insulting them with asking counter questions and making arguments. Not fair and extremely unprofessional on his part. Very disappointing to see a display of such incompetent behavior from Chess Emporium. Thanks for ruining a family's much awaited Saturday!

We absolutely love the coaches (Alex and Ben are especially fantastic but most all are great) and it is a great place to learn in a non-threatening environment. The kids also love the tournaments and it is great to see them excited about something that uses their brain. They also have gotten to be pretty good at chess. My only complaint is that there are a lot of charges - we're paying for something every week (class, tournament fees, facility memberships, and an ASCF membership for a rating system that isn't recognized elsewhere). We may have to take out a Chess loan soon, but we do still love the place.
