To make matters worse, I had reserved two pieces of moving equipment, only to be told they were out of stock. That is completely unacceptable. If the equipment is available only on a first-come, first-served basis, customers should not be allowed to reserve it in advance. The customer service was equally disappointing. While one employee was kind enough to offer me their own dolly and seemed genuinely understanding, every other employee we interacted with was rude and unprofessional. They talked over both my husband and I, were dismissive, and had an attitude throughout the entire experience. The drop-off process was no better. One employee remained on the phone and didn't acknowledge my husband or I for about 10 minutes, only to tell us she couldn't help because she was still on the call. About five minutes later, another employee came out and rudely informed us that we could have just left the keys in the vehicle and walked away. It would have been nice if someone had communicated that to us from the beginning instead of leaving us standing there waiting. Overall, this was one of the worst customer service experiences I've had. I will not be returning to this location, and I would not recommend it to others.

My experience with Penske has been nothing but positive. I couldn't have asked for better quality for customer service and truck. The representatives were easy to get on the phone and were amenable to all the changes I had to make to my original orders (dates, credit card, and additional moving supplies). And though I could have done without the Saturday and Sunday 11am calls (from a real person!), it's nice to know that someone's working that hard over the weekend to check up on you. As for the truck, I have absolutely no complaints. It looked brand-new, with barely 3000 miles on it. The interior was clean and it was easy to drive. I felt perfectly safe despite the pouring rain on a dark highway after dusk. It was definitely very different from my friend's experience with U-Haul. It could have been a commercial for Penske. We were leaving from the same place at exactly the same time. As I was about to get on the road, I got a call from her that her U-Haul trailer was broken (it was so old that it came with a broken left-turn light, but the U-Haul folks had foisted it on her anyway). A joint was broken and scraping on the road so she couldn't even pull out of the driveway. Needless to say, she unloaded the trailer, returned it to U-Haul, and got a Penske truck within the hour. Her truck was brand-new, too. You really can't go wrong with Penske. My only tips: Get a lock and inquire about the AAA discount. It can be one of those Master locks that you used on your locker, but it's absolutely necessary. The AAA discount is worth it.

That 16' truck hauled all our stuff and a car carrier through a tornado warning/sever thunderstorm in Kansas, a mountain pass in Vail, CO, and the winding roads/108 degrees of Death Valley, CA without any problems whatsoever! If it can get through that, it can truly handle anything. The customer service was excellent, the price was cheaper than Uhaul, and the truck was no problem to drive. The rates were some of the best that I found locally, and the three movers that were assigned to me (Andrew, Chris and Ricardo) were incredibly professional and fast. They arrived at the correct time and clearly worked very hard to get my furniture in the truck quickly, despite the fact that they get paid by the hour AND that it was raining pretty much the whole time. They had to move some stuff up from a basement and down from the third floor in the Somerville apartment, then up again to the third floor apartment in Portland - all which had pretty narrow staircases which they were running up and down pretty much the whole time. They were careful with everything, including smaller breakable items, a few pieces of antique furniture, and various pieces of art and bagged up clothing that I had. They wrapped all the larger pieces of furniture and art with their own blankets and tape and unwrapped everything at the end. About halfway through their drive up to Portland their truck broke down and another one had to be driven up from Boston. They moved all my stuff from one truck to another and raced up here to get everything to me with only a few hours delay, unpacking everything in about an hour. Considering that they basically had to move my stuff 3 times that day, they never appeared to be frustrated or impatient and maintained a positive and professional demeanor throughout the whole process. The only thing that was damaged in the process was the top to one plastic storage bin that probably cost me $5 which frankly I didn't pack correctly in the first place so that's not really their fault. They didn't charge me for the time that the truck was broken down or when they were moving my stuff between trucks, even though they were definitely technically working during that period. They gave me a great discount for the wait, and despite being exhausted and waterlogged they were very careful and helpful with moving everything exactly where I needed it in the apartment. If I need to move again I will definitely think of this company first, thank you guys so much!

These are 250-350 lb beasts, with very little clearance to get through the doorway and up the stairs. A buyer was coming from NY to pick up the old saw, so the timing was critical and everything had to go right. It did. I dealt with Nick, who made sure there were enough people (4) to do the job safely. The movers were quick, capable, and nice. They arrived on time, set up and were done very quickly. No problems, no damage. I'd use Nick's again.
