I thought I remembered hiring Michael's for our last move 16 years ago, and for a workplace move too. So I called again! As expected, they were easy to work with, pleasant all around from the texts to the phone to the muscle! Three nice guys showed up. We weren't even done packing yet, which they took in stride, and helped us wrap, box and tape like champs. They even had to take some big items out the back way and hoist them over the 2nd floor railing! In the new place, they positioned our rugs, and our sofa and desks, even assembled our Sleep Number bed and adjusted the setting. They are VERY experienced in all things! And only one item broke, and it was too easy to break, and will be good as new with some Crazy Glue. I hope we don't have to move again anytime soon (knock wood!) but if we do, I know who to call! read more

I had a small bureau that I carried in myself from the truck, and one of the workers commented on how much his mom would like it. As they were finishing up, I noticed the bureau was no longer where I had put it. I checked around, couldn't find it, and ran out to the truck as they were closing it. The bureau was back on the truck. Maybe I put it back in there without thinking. I also foolishly left my watch box out. I haven't seen one of my favorite watches since I moved. Maybe I lost it. I really didn't want to write this and called them 5 times over 3 weeks, but many promises of a call-back never resulted in anything. They gave me an estimate of in the $600-$800 range, but it ended up costing me $1600+ for 1 bedroom move. My inventory was accurate and there were no really heavy items. They didn't show up in the scheduled time, damaged items and an item went missing. They also lied or miscommunicated about how much a parking ticket cost. Secured their tip before showing me the final bill. I wanted to talk to the owner and try to hammer out a fair compromise but I guess he is unwilling? Hard to fathom. Today I used Michael's Movers today for a move from one apartment to a larger one in the same building. I am absolutely delighted with the high quality of service, the friendliness of the three men who moved my belongings, and the care they took to ensure that there was no damage to anything. They cheerfully - and I might add efficiently - put everything where I wanted it. They were just incredible! I highly recommend them for their professionalism, courtesy, and fair pricing. Most of my furniture arrived damaged. It clearly wasn't protected or stored properly-there are scratches, abrasions, chipped surfaces, and fabric tears that are beyond repair. What's worse is the complete lack of accountability or communication from the company. I've used several moving companies in the Boston area over the years, and unfortunately, this was by far the worst experience. I'm heartbroken over the damage and incredibly disappointed by how the situation was handled. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone looking for a professional or trustworthy move. read more

I just used Michael's Moving & Storage to move from an apartment in Boston to a house on the South Shore, and had a great experience! Their team was so efficient, helpful, and professional--I would definitely use them again. They sent 3 guys to move a large one-bedroom + den apartment, and it took about 6 hours total including load-in, load-out, and travel. The team arrived right on time, walked us through how the pricing and payment worked, and got started right away. They charge by the hour no matter how much stuff you have or what it is, which I thought was fair, and the pricing seemed pretty middle of the road based on the other quotes I got before booking. They brought all their own gear and huge bins to throw the smaller bags and boxes in, and wrapped all the of the furniture and electronics so quickly and carefully. We were super relaxed the whole time because it was clear they had everything under control. We were pretty well packed, but they had extra boxes, tape, etc. on the truck for purchase for any stray odds and ends. Their team did a great job pointing out any existing damage to our stuff so we knew the condition before it went on the truck, and were honestly just really nice people the entire time. It even started raining for part of the move, and it didn't slow these guys down at all. Total pros, would recommend them to anyone! read more

BEWARE! Manager Bryan seemed very attentive at first. But once he had our stuff, we felt completely scammed. We were moving our 2 bedroom apartment from Ma to Fl. We were quoted for around $4,900. He offered $5/cubic foot if we booked that day. Once they packed our stuff they added about 500 cubic feet and charged an additional $2,500. They added 3 couches that we didn't have to their inventory. When we addressed this, Bryan stated, well when we packed it, there was 1400 feet. We can't control how poorly they packed it? They added extra inventory to void the "discount" they had promise. Additionally, they added a fake parking ticket of $100. When we asked to see the ticket, they did not have it. Nor did the police. They said they could not put our 3 mirrors in blankets and charged us $300 to put them in boxes. Extra hidden fees. Zero transparency. When we questioned Bryan about the additionally fake furniture, he said, "hire movers to get your stuff from us." great guy... But it gets better. They said they can get our stuff delivered in 4-15 days. LIES. 21 days by law. Our stuff was late. Beyond the 15 days. We called multiple times to see where our stuff was and there was no answer. After radiosilence, we contacted the business bureau because we were led to believe our stuff was being held hostage. Bryan said, since you contacted the bureau we will not deliver your stuff. But hey, at least he finally responded. When we asked for an additional copy of the contract, they refused to give to us. Even better. They left all of their trash. They also said they don't subcontract. Well they do! We had 4 people not from the company, roll up and deliver our stuff. Pretty sure it was just task rabbit. And they were smoking on our property. We filed a claim because they put a hole in our ceiling and we have not heard back. It's been over a month. When the driver arrived he demanded cash even though the contract said cash or banker's check. LIES, NO TRANSPARENCY, STEAL! We have moved 3 times with Lexel and I would give 10/10. We used this moving company because they were recommended to my husband and I by his brother and they also had great reviews. We were quoted $650-$799 for 3 1/2-4 1/2 hours. They moved a king bed, 2 night stands, a tv stand, a coffee table and a console table along with about 10 boxes. We were told if it takes on the lower end of the time it would be $650 and if it takes on the higher end of the time, it would go up to $799. We were prepared to pay in cash whatever the remainder was after the deposit, also prepared to pay the higher end of our quote. It took them just UNDER 3 hours, which was less than the time quoted, and our total came to just under $1,000. We were baffled by this as this was a significant difference than the price quoted for also being UNDER the time quoted. When questioning why the significant difference, we were told because of tape and a mattress protector. They also told us "it was just a quote". They basically screwed us out of way more money than they quoted us (even though the quote given was a range) and gave us the most ridiculous explanation. Don't use them. Just a follow up on this review as of 3/16, Michael from the company just called me and badgered me to remove my review. He was extremely rude and angry and said he doesn't like that I left a nasty review even though I was just sharing my honest, disappointing experience. LOL. Again, DONT USE THEM. read more

The movers took and extra 20 plus minutes to arrive, which I was charged for. They also dismantled my bed which made the process take a longer time. Then they showed me the final bill of $753 total but charged my account for $998! I called and they dismissed me stating that the customer rep who handled my account would get in touch with me to rectify the situation, but they still have not reached out. On the day of my move they raised price from $2700 to $3500. This is while they were loading the truck. After much haggling and threats to cancel the move they dropped to $3200 but would not deduct $200 deposit. Plus they pressured me to pay upfront before move was completed. When I resisted the lead guy said " you crossed the line" - and told his men to remove a fully loaded truck back to my residence. Then a box that they filled - was torn open and he threw the contents all over the floor. Such poor behavior The manager over the phone kept threatening cancellation in order to get me to comply. I just had a wonderful experience with a moving company. I don't think I've ever been able to say that before. It was an internal move that brought our bedroom downstairs and our library upstairs. We had book cases that were an inch less than the ceiling upstairs. The movers made that work much to my amazement. The crew from Michael's were fast and friendly. The three person crew cleared our 1,000 sq ft condo in an hour. Everything was neatly packed and then unloaded according to our instructions. The quoting process was done over the phone and took about 10 mins to talk through all the rooms in order to get an accurate quote. Actually the final cost ended up being almost half the original quote because we went ahead and moved a lot of the little items. It is nice that they adjust the price to the actual hours worked. I've moved several times over in my life and I can say without hesitation that my experience with Michael's Movers was the best to date. They got everything right -- Bryan in sales was helpful, our crew was exceptional, and the price was right. We used them for an out of state move -- Boston to Philadelphia -- and had Miguel, Juan, and Milton as the crew. They called before arriving and got right to work. They moved our entire apartment on the third floor in about 2 hours and that included a very impressive couch hoist over our balcony. They were friendly, respectful, and accommodating the entire time. As if that wasn't impressive enough, we got lucky and had the same crew the next day for delivery. They were prompt and again got right to work. They were fast, efficient, and very helpful -- always wanting to make sure things were going to the right floor and the right room. Recently moved, and I must have called over a dozen places for quotes. Our goal was to have a moving company that would move 8-10 bigger pieces of furniture while we move over the rest. I loved how nice, responsive and fair the pricing was to conduct our move. There were options to get a discount for off peak time moves which was amazing for our budget. I've used Michael's for 3 moves (1 BR apt) in the Boston area and each has gone smoothly. Freddie and team were fast and careful. They carefully took apart the complicated items (couch, bed frame, headboard) and put them all back together on the other end. One of the moves was on a rainy day and the team did it without slowing the pace or getting any of my stuff wet. They wrapped everything to avoid damage. The cost is quite reasonable given the fast pace and ease of move. The scheduling is also very easy. I booked all 3 moves with only one week notice (but none were during peak periods). My husband and I have used Michael's Movers twice to move apartments; once directly in Boston between two close neighborhoods, and once from Boston to Malden. Because I had used them the first time my name was in their system already, so they gave me a deal when quoting a price. I will say that ALL of the reputable moving companies in Boston can be pretty pricey, but this company is middle of the road for pricing, but they include a lot more amenities. Both moves we had 3 movers each time, and on their website you can go into great detail about the types/sizes/number of each item you're moving. They also offer bubble wrap, packing boxes, and tape as add-ons to your move, and will strategically dismantle things like desks, beds, and furniture for packing, and then re-assemble once you're in your new place. Both moves the movers were polite, communicated well regarding how they were going to move things into the truck, and they listened to me in regards to which items were the most fragile/important to us. The only caveat I found the second time is instead of asking if we wanted certain things dismantled like a Peloton and bookshelves, they simply started breaking things up. I think it would have been better if they asked if they could go ahead and dismantle things instead of just doing it, because some items people don't want to re-assemble, or they're antiques/too fragile to put back together. I could also see people who like their items "just so" getting upset if they aren't asked ahead of time. Thankfully nothing of ours was broken or wasn't put back together on the other end. To make the process easier, when I gave the addresses of moving in and out, I also clarified we had no pets and no children, and how many flights of stairs at each location (ours unfortunately didn't have an elevator). This helped the movers plan how they wanted to proceed in packing/organizing. The move from Boston to Malden was more expensive simply because of the distance and we had more items total. We put a deposit of $159 down, and with taxes, fees, insurance, travel expenses, and packing materials (they used a large number of boxes/tape/bubble wrap for us), everything together after the deposit came to about $850. Another thing is once they enter your home to start moving things, they go over about how long it will take, what your goals are, how you want things set up, and once everything is set up in the new location and put together, they go over the itemized list with you about time, packaging, etc. Although we had a few fragile items like our bedframe, Peloton, some glass dishware, we didn't have anything truly priceless like a piano or a crystal chandelier. The movers were great and very efficient on both ends of the trip, but I could potentially see breakage happening with very important items if they aren't stored/wrapped/padded carefully enough. Definitely a "your mileage may vary" thing. My only two warnings are 1. Absolutely point out which things are breakable/expensive/important so they wrap them differently and not just shove them out the door for speed, and 2. If you don't want certain things broken down and put back together (or you want it done a certain way), tell them before they start the moving process. These guys are young, strong, and were like a well-oiled machine. Once they started moving, they didn't stop. They were very kind and listened well to our needs, but if you're anxious about it, tell them right from the beginning what your goals are. They're well-known in and around Boston for small and large moves; would definitely use again. ***Pro tip, since the majority of college students move on May 31st, June 1st, July 1st, August 1st, and Sept 1st, choose an off-day or middle of the week when they'll have more movers available. They also give you a range of when they will arrive (ours was between 8am-9am and they were on time). read more

Michaels did an amazing job..I researched a ton of spots and they were best with customer service and value. They were much cheaper than Giant and other competitors and did a fantastic job. They were super responsive, extremely efficient and absolutely no issues at all with fragile and delicate items. They were also great at finishing packing some of our items that needs extra care, and reassembled some major furniture pieces in the exact rooms we wanted. We ended up relying on them for some supplies here and there and for proper boxes, etc which can add up so would recommend you pack as much yourself. It has been three weeks since we moved, and we are still unpacking and getting settled in. While I do not recommend moving, unless you're going somewhere bigger and better, I would most definitely recommend this company. In fact I have already given Michael's Moving name to at least 5 people. These guys know what they are doing. From the first phone call with Bryan I was impressed by his professionalism and courtesy, and based on my information, he gave me a thorough estimate. Fast forward to moving day. Raul, the team leader, called shortly before 8:00 and arrived with his crew within 15 minutes. They didn't bat an eye when confronted with the 29 steps from the sidewalk to the house and another 16 from the first floor to the second. The team, Roberto, Elmer and Elky worked hard and efficiently as did Raul himself. They were careful with our possessions and respectful of suggestions. When we arrived at the new place, they delivered all items and set up the furniture exactly as I wished before heading out with the rest of our things that were going to storage. Excellent job! We used Michael's for our move from Medford to NH. We had to change the dates a few times and they had to hold our furniture in storage. They were very accommodating. The two different crews were great. The cost was a little better than the national companies. I think it's always better going with a local company. We have used Michael's 5 times in last few years for ourselves and family members the last time was jan 30. From Winthrop to central Ma. I just have to say how professional the three guys were and polite I'm amazed every time we use them everything is wrapped and taped up so nothing has ever been scratched or dented. This includes the walls and ceilings and floors of where we came from and moved to. I have move on my own when I was younger and after watching them and how incredible a job they do I would never do it myself or ask friends to do it. I've heard others use places cheaper and less reputable than Michael's and they ended up claiming 12k dollars in damage to their furniture and new house. My highest recommendation goes to Michael's Moving and Storage. I've used them twice in less than a month and both moves were made infinitely better with their help. They moved my daughter from one third floor walk-up to another third floor walk-up in Boston in record time. This was a horrible move to make -- she had big exercise equipment and furniture that only fit in their unit because it was assembled there. Michael's Moving made it so easy and it couldn't have gone better. I just moved from Newton to near the Rhode Island line and they made my move as painless as a move can be. I spent weeks packing and organizing and planning, maybe even agonizing. And then they moved it all in just a few hours with no hassles, no surprises, and no damage. They were very courteous and extremely efficient. You wouldn't necessarily think that movers are artists, but they are. Every single thing they do shows so much thought and care for both the building and your items. And the way they navigate space with large items is amazing. As far as price and value, I couldn't be happier. The Boston studio apartment to a Boston studio apartment with three flights of stairs on each end was less then $1k before the tip. My move across the state, to and from a two bedroom with a lot of stuff (work at home life), was just over $1,500 including the tip. I moved locally this summer with Michael's Moving and Storage. This is the fourth time I have hired movers to move to/from/within the Boston area, all with different companies. Unfortunately, my experience with Michael's Moving and Storage was the worst of the four. The Good: The movers arrived on time, completed the move in a timely manner, and were generally very professional. The Bad: Once paid my deposit, it was very difficult to get in touch with a representative by phone. While the movers wore masks for the duration of the move, they had the masks pulled down below their noses most of the time. The movers did not treat my possessions with care (see photos for examples) -- they lost several items, including a ladder and small rug, which were picked up but not delivered. Nearly every item of furniture with handles/knobs was delivered with at least one missing or broken knob. Overall, my furniture was much more banged up than in previous moves (even though past moves required a lot more stairs). Finally, the pricing for the move was not transparent. I had a 24hr gap between my leases and they told me they could do this with a $150 overnight fee. But there were actually several additional charges associated with slitting the move over two days -- none of which were included in their initial quote. Although I asked for a conservative quote for the move (I was moving for work and needed the charges pre-approved for reimbursement), the final cost of my move exceeded the estimate, despite the move requiring less time than expected. Many of the extra fees tacked on the price were due to "company policy" and thus easily could (and should) have been reflected in the initial quote. I will not use Michael's Moving and Storage again and I would not recommend them to a friend. read more

This is my second time hiring Michaels Moving and storage. Three years ago they moved me from Philadelphia to Boston. The move was very smooth and within the estimate they gave me. As a satisfied client I decided to call them again. This time I hired them to help me relocate from Boston to a town home in Waltham. On the day of the move the movers called me to let me know that they are on their way which was nice of them. This gave me time to go get coffee for them and me. When they arrived I was amazed how quick and efficient they are. The movers were carrying two-three boxes at the same time, and some of my boxes were very heavy. I needed help packing some of my last minute items that I was still using such as kitchen, shoes and jackets. What I really liked about the crew was that whatever I asked them, the respond was "no problem." The boxes they packed were labeled so I didn't have trouble finding what I needed. They even packed my shoes precious shoes individually with paper so they don't scratch. I have moved over 12 times and this is my first time seeing this. It just blew my mind. Moving is very stressful. The way the guys were handling my furniture made me relax. When I moved to Boston I bought some very expensive furniture. After I saw how they protected everything with blankets, my heart went back to normal. When we arrived at my new place, the movers helped me to arrange the furniture the way I wanted. I had them move the location of my bed twice, and when I asked them I received the same respond, "no problem." It was again a well done service from Michaels movers. We've moved more than the average family. Sometimes we've had mom and pop movers, sometimes totally done it ourselves, and occasionally hired a "big name" company. Our move TO Boston (with a well-known group) was a disaster, so when it came time for another multi-state move, we were NERVOUS. I'm not sure what inspired me to call Michael's, but I couldn't be happier that I did. They were insanely careful with all of our things...I've never seen my piano wrapped as cautiously.
