Great value, generous portions and convenient!! This review is mainly about the cafeteria offering Latin/Caribbean food attached to the market with its own entrance from the parking lot. For a tiny eatery with only a few tables, they have a lot of hot and ready take-out options from which to choose! There were rice, poultry, pork, beef, and seafood dishes. I ordered the beef stew with carrots and celery and rice with beans, and I was given a choice of salad or fried plantains. I chose the yummy sweet fried bananas, of course. Everything was packed in a to-go box and the portions were HUGE for only around $10! (See photo). One box can feed AT LEAST 2 people or someone with a ginormous appetite. Food tasted fresh and homemade from scratch, though I'm not sure which country they come from. I would definitely come here regularly. FYI, this place also carries Majarete corn pudding made by The Family Cake Co. (a local RI bakery), which I'm crazy about. Only $2.49. Almost all the workers are limited English speakers, but they could understand what I wanted and one can easily point to what he/she wants (exactly like a Filipino "point-point" restaurant). Friendly staff, good selection, and great prices! They sell a selection of Latin and Caribbean ingredients including some fresh produce and tons of canned goods and spices. The prices are REALLY good. I can't stress that enough. Some members of the staff don't speak great English, but they understand enough to help you out. I have really enjoyed the steaks and prepared burgers I have gotten from here. They also have the cheapest beef tenderloin I've seen around, and it's great quality. I've made steak tartare twice with this meat and it was so fresh I wasn't worried at all about eating it raw. I will happily return to Armando's for future meat purchases, and also when I am seeking specialty Latin or Caribbean ingredients. read more

Nice cuts and prices aren't bad. Speaking Spanish is a big help. Many of the butchers speak little or no English.

Disgusting, so unbelievable dirty, the floors were sticky, the meat cases looked like they haven't been cleaned in a year, absolutely enough to make you vomit, and to top it all off, gone were the cheaper than supermarket prices, I'll never set foot in that dump again. I have loved Armandos for years, but recently its a little different. A bit dirtier, and some of the non meat products (tortillas, chesses, etc) have been stale. Yesterday I bought Picanha and Chicken thighs. Picanha was the usual, but the chicken thighs were so spoiled they stunk my car and refrigerator up before I realized. They looked fine in the case, and I only drove 10 minutes home and put them right in the fridge. Went to cook at night and they smelled horrible. read more

I like the little cafeteria. There are a half dozen Dominican ladies cooking behind the counter. My Mom had a Dominican nurse who shopped there, and said it was authentic, and home cooking! No one behind the counter understands English, so ordering is an adventure! I have spent 5 minutes with 3 ladies trying to order 2 chickens! They are good sports, but it does frustrate me they don't know English. They have the best rotisserie chicken anywhere. We love their roast pork. Sometimes, it can be dry, but still tastes good! Sometimes, they have a soup they call sancocho. It has big bone in chunks of beef and ham with yucca. Reminds me of pea soup, or lentil, but with chunks of meat. The meat is never cooked enough, and I put it back on the stove at home for another couple hours. Good but have to be careful of the little bone slivers. I should point out that items like those I mentioned are not always available. I have gone several times for chickens, when none were made. Still, 90% of my visits are for prepared food and not for the market. The market has a lot of Latin, and some Asian, and even African groceries, along with head to tail offerings of practically every animal on Noah's Ark! If you are a vegan, don't go in there! The damage will be irreparable! They have it all, and at supermarket prices. I don't think the average shopper is going to save money there, but they have everything under one roof! In my desperate search for a butcher that could custom cut meats to my very own specifications, I found Armando & Sons. Having a butcher shop with the flexibility to make cuts you want and at a very reasonable price is rare. Additionally you can get cuts of meat not as prevalent in many of our local grocery store chains - like large slabs of pork belly and ox tail. They also sell whole animals as well (for a traditional pit roast celebration). If you are craving Caribbean-Latino fare, Armando and Sons also has a cafeteria as well. If you get here when they first open, they have traditional Dominican breakfast foods. I always get the pernil (Roast Pork) and Fried cheese when they have it. Other favorites include marinated salads and a variety of empanadas. Again, don't be put off with the smell. It is a wet market and the smell that comes with that is expected. The price is right when it comes to the meats here. Combined with tailored butchery and selection makes this place a five star joint. read more

Recently was looking for some picanha as I am addicted to Brazilian churrasco, and I didn't want to make a trip all the way to Seabra in Fall River. A Brazilian friend told me about this happening little place and told me that it was a legit butcher with the cuts I was looking for. She was not wrong. The neighborhood seems a bit sketch, but I think the quality of meat is definitely better than your Shaw's and Stop n Shop. The service is fast, the meat is fresh, and if you are a carnivore that's looking for service by a real butcher, this is where it's at for me at the moment, when I want to exercise my Barbie. I am definitely going to hit this place back up for some chicken this weekend, so that I can smoke some thighs and maybe make some Colombian chicharrones. Lastly, if you are looking for some good stew material, or for a legit feijoada ingredient compilation, i.e. pig feet, linguica, chorizo, pork belly, etc, look no further. read more

Armando's is the place to go for all your meat needs. You don't see full butcher service much anymore and it's great to see not only this kind of service but also a thriving, busy, and amply staffed one! Terrific variety of meats and well-priced vs. the major grocery store chains: beef, chicken, and pork, of course, but also lamb and goat. And not just the usual cuts - also see beef tongue, oxtail, cow and pig trotters, beef liver and kidneys, chicken hearts, livers, and gizzards. They also have a variety of smoked meats like huge smoked turkey legs, wings, and necks; smoked bacon and hams. The house bacon itself is about a dollar per pound cheaper than pre-packaged name brands, has a great flavor, but can be off-putting to some due to a more chewy rind (which I happen to like, but my kids don't). I always like getting their skirt steaks (which can be reliably found here) for making arrachera and their chicken thighs are so big and meaty they must be coming from some kind of chicken/turkey hybrid! Armando's also has a small produce section carrying some uncommon vegetables and fruits (like big aloe leaves, plantains, and jicama) although for other more typical veggies, you're probably better off buying such at a standard grocery; speaking of which, they do carry IMO a good selection of Latin American spices and dry goods. And there is a small prepared foods/take-out section (called The Cafeteria) that always smells fantastic -- and has some very tasty foods (I especially like the fried pork belly chunks -- a crunchy, meaty mouthful that always makes me feel guilty with respect to my cholesterol count ... let alone weight control!) read more

What a find! I'd passed their sign on 95 (near the lottery sign) many times this summer and wanted to check out the meat selection. If there is ever a type of meat that you need, a special cut or preparation, this is the place to check out. I never trust a butcher who isn't blood splattered and this place doesn't disappoint. There are 5 butchers at the ready and they are willing to tell you which cut to go with for your recipes, they are willing to sell you exactly the amount of meat you need. In addition to the meat, they have an extensive Goya aisle- beans, rices, tortillas, etc. I really love their inexpensive spices. Shoppers tend to be friendly. How excited was I to find an actual butcher shop that cut meat to order, and offered a huge selection! I got some beef. And goat. And chicken. And some chorizo. And I'll be back for more when this runs out. Maybe for some veal or lamb even. And once summertime hits and it's grill season again, I'll be here all the time! MEAT!!! I'm really excited about this spot. First and foremost, the amount of meat they have is amazing. There are beef, chicken, pork, and deli/bakery counters (you need to grab a number for the beef and chicken counters, which are the busiest), and the number of different cuts they have is great. 5 different cuts of goat alone. Prices are good across the board and they have good specials (though those seem to be for larger quantities of meat...for example 10 pounds of ground beef). The produce section has the basics plus a few extras. Everything is fresh and hearty. I'd make a trip here for the ginger and scallions alone! The middle aisles have so much to offer. I enjoy cooking all types of food: Spanish, Indian, Asian, Polish, German etc. and they have so many spices! Also, their dried pepper selection is good. You can get chili and fish sauces, as well as tamarind paste...things I would previously have driven to separate Asian and Indian markets for. If you make your own sausage, you could get all the cuts you need, as well as sausage-making or curing essentials such as casings, whole allspice and coriander, etc. etc. This has become my go-to meat market! read more

Schwing!!! This is Disneyland for carnivore's. I didn't know you could still buy a whole beef tongue, cow's feet (plain or smoked), chicken gizzards or goat chops locally. And exactly what is "cushion meat" anyway? Now if they could only pipe in farm animal sounds.... But seriously, Armando's is without peer in the area. A throwback if there ever was one. A real butcher shop where you can get anything you want, cut any way you want. And cheap. The thick cut pork chops are perfect for the grill, as is the skirt steak. The boneless chicken breasts are voluptuous and party wings by the bag are great for your football crowd. The Italian sausage is delightfully 'old world' - just gamey enough to remind you what sausage used to be. I urge you frequent this place. Frequently. Please. I just walked in and had my mind blown. First in the shelves they have a ton of "ethnic" dry and canned goods. A really great and wide variety. Then you hit the meat counters. Standard cuts. Special cuts. Luxury, sure thing. And then the lovely trash cuts. The ones that the rest of the world calls dinner. As should we all... Organs, trotters, TONGUE!!!! And that's just the beef section! Smoked parts of pig, turkey and chicken. Deli meats too !!! They have pretty much everything. And what they don't, just ask and they are happy to help. There is pride here. You can see it, feel it and NOT smell it. Clean. It smelled good in there. The fact that there is a cafeteria connected helps. Have a snack before you shop. First, I LOVE the selection, everything you could possibly want/need meat related. I did have a communication issue with one of the butchers during my last visit though. I wanted a 5 rib roast to start dry aging for Christmas and he had no idea what I meant. He picked up a 3 rib roast and started wrapping it. I had to yell to him that I wanted a bigger roast, five ribs. He looked at me blankly and put the three rib roast back, then grabbed a 4 rib roast. Again I stopped him and said "Cinco" and pointed to the bones on the rib. He gave me a thumbs up, turned around and began to cut the bones from the rest of the meat. I gave up and just bought it. I hope it's enough for the family this Christmas... read more

This is a great place to get local groceries and the meat is fantastic! I love everything, and the meat is cut to order but still very affordable. I would rather give my money to a family owned business than a chain superstore! My only issue is wiping down the carts and small hand baskets, I feel they could be sanitized better. read more

Let me start out by saying that Armando's is amazing- good meat and selection- the wide variety is very affordable. The reason I am giving it 4/5 stars is that the location is out of the way for me and it is always super busy. There must be at least 20 people behind the counter and willing to help people quickly, I'm not always mentally prepared for that part, lol. I shop here on occasion- when I need some smoked meats for my collards or beans. They will cut up the smoked pork neck into pieces for you!! I recently bought some goat meat as well which was pretty tasty. They sometimes have Cape Verde imports so I'll snap up some bolacha or tuna while I'm there as well. I haven't tried the chicken or other meats, but the cases are always fully stocked !! read more

Like the reviewer before me, I'd been meaning to stop and check this place out after passing the sign on 95 a million times. The hubby and I finally stopped the other day and we were pleasantly surprised at the amazing selection of meat products. He was especially psyched about the fresh tripe and I was fascinated by the numerous animal parts that I had never seen in a fresh butcher case before. In addition to the fresh meats, they carry an extensive selection of international grocery items. The best part, though, is the little gem of a cafeteria in the rear of the building. They serve up some wicked delish Latin and Jamacain cuisine, made right there on the spot. You know it's good when the employees filter in from the front to grab lunch or a quick snack. Everyone that works here is very accommodating. They happily cut the meat to order and want to help you in any way. They'll even tell you how to cook it! Armando's has just about any kind and cut of meat you can imagine -- everything from chicken feet to goats as well as any/every kind of pork, beef, veal and lamb that you can imagine. I would LOVE to shop here some time with an accomplished Hispanic or Asian cook -- there are items on the shelves and in the cases here that look amazing, but I have NO IDEA what they are! I almost felt bad for cows and pigs for a high second when I walked in here. Then I saw how awesome their prices were and how much of a selection they had, and after that, I felt bad for vegetarians and vegans missing out on this! I've been coming to Armandos for years. Since they opened off Elmwood ave actually. I never had any problems until recently. There are few butchers that understand English but because i go on a daily basis i picked up on how to say the meats in Spanish to make the communication a little easier. I've ordered slices of flap meat multiple times and always ask for 6-10 thin slices. Thick slices are harder for kids to chew on. There's times they give me thick cuts that cost me close to $40 and didn't know why until i opened the package and the cuts were veryyyyyyy thick. So thick i can make 3 thin slices from just the one thick slice they gave me, and i had about 6-10 slices like that! Was very upset. Then recently however, i was the only one standing in the pork section. I didn't grab a number cause no one was around and it was just one quick order. Waited a few minutes people started showing up and the butchers skipped me 3 times and took the people that came after i did. They saw me standing there patiently. I got tired of waiting and left. Makes me not want to go to Armandos anymore no matter how good quality their meats are! read more

I walked into the store for the first time and must say was highly impressed at the amount and variety of meat these guys have. You name the meat and they had it. 3 varieties of goat meat also quite surprised me, which is quite rare to find. Who else would define in such manner. The prices were not that bad either. One can walk out of the store with a smile on their face. This place was packed in the evening much before their closing time, but they had many butchers who were ready to serve with thorough diligence. The staff was way too informative and very helpful. Even if there were others waiting everybody was heard right and served right. Quite impressed. Will be back for all my meat requirements. Also went back and cooked the baby goat meat.
