Conveniently located near the train, grabbing a slice, always makes the ride really nice! I stop in at least once every 2 weeks., but don't always get pizza. Armando's has been here for years. I just stopped by for a slice and it was horrible. I took two bites and threw it out. The mozzarella is VERY low grade. In all honesty, their pizza is very good. The best actually in Canarsie. But why the low rating? Because they did not fix a mistake in my order when they said they would. Ordered two pies and one of them wasn't the right pie. I called them about the mistake, guy answering the call sounded not interested and passed it on to someone else. Second person said they would fix the order, and surprise they never did. I called again, they didn't answer the phone. So folks, whenever you order online from these guys, check your pies before accepting them. Otherwise you'll end up in the same situation as I have. This was months ago and I'm still waiting for my pie. Since then, we no longer order from them. For shame because their pizzas are really good but bad customer service skills prevents us from ordering here ever again. 2020 update, we ordered again from Armando's and service has greatly improved and the pizza even more delicious than before. While exploring my new neighborhood, I was so happy to find this traditional pizzeria! Their pizza is PHENOMENAL every time! The buffalo chicken pizza w/blue cheese drizzle has become my favorite! My 8 yr old granddaughter is a pizza snob and after each slice she ate of the classic cheese pizza (3), she said "This pizza is really good!" The meatball parm hero is also delicious. Although this place is far out in Canarsie--aka the edge of the unknown world for Manhattanites--its a legend in these parts. A place doesn't stay open for 50 years and not be well known to be fair, but its location right next to the L train, late hours, and cheap prices helped solidify its rep. And while all of this is nice, and while the place has plenty of character (Dodgers/old school Brooklyn pics cover an entire wall, owner always there, the place's name is also spelled no less than 3 different ways throughout the place, the main sign outside looks so fucking old school from the outside that it hurts), it wouldn't mean much to me if the food weren't good. I got two slices: the sicilian slice which is what they're famous for, and the grandma slice which they recently added. The sauce here is great, well balanced and matches the slices every well. The sicilian is definitely a belly bomb and although I am not a fan of sicilians normally, this one had a fluffy inside and plenty of cheese; it was a belly bomb for sure and made me pass out on my way back to the city, but it was as thoroughly enjoyable as any sicilian I've had. The grandma slice was also great, but in a differnet way. Where the sicilian was a rough around the edges as it should be, the grandma was much more refined. They used a different sauce for this, one which they kicked up a notch with some seasonings, olive oil and fresh mozzarella. They edge of the crust was the only problem I had with it, as it came upwards and was harded than I would've liked, where most grandmas have a flatter, softer outer crust. But the sheer deliciousness of this slice outweigh this issue. If you had combined these two kinds of pizza into one, you would have a slice that could compete with any in the city, period. Is this place worth a trip out to Canarsie for? If you're a pizza nut like me, it sure is. However, this is a place that, if they tweaked some things, could have near perfect pizza. Whether they do so is up to them, but they damn sure have the legacy, skill, and support (see their facebook page) to do so. I finally got a chance to check out Armando's pizza and I now see why they have such good reviews. The customer service is fantastic, unlike any other pizza place that I've been to. The restaurant is set up like most NY pizza shops. It's a small space with limited seating. When I walked in I was greeted by a friendly gentleman who was prepared to take my order. He had such a great personality and a cool sense of humor. I ordered a plain cheese pizza and he asked me if I wanted the pizza warm or hot. I was surprised that they actually take the time out to ASK customers how they would like their pizza. Needless to say, the pizza was yummy in my tummy! Lol! But once again, the customer service is what really makes this place stand out. I will definitely be returning. read more

We had the Grandma's Pie and it was absolutely delicious. The crust was just perfect and it was very big- definitely again

AKA Armondo's This classic, Canarsie location in a red and black motif has bar stools, old-school benches, and a wall entirely covered with pictures of Brooklyn's past. Being there is as much an experience as it is just eating the slice. The Sicilian is better than a neighborhood slice. There's depth to the flavors, from the slightly spicy sauce, plentiful cheese, and dough loaded with character. It gives L&B competition for best in the borough , though not as polarizing. And the regular Neapolitan slice is heavy. There's large bubbling, it's fluffy (one of the fluffiest crusts out there) and dense with a small amount of light orange grease. It's saucy, moreso than cheesy, but still plenty cheesy. And most importantly, the bottom and end crust shows uniqueness and integrity. Good stuff. There is another Armando's in Starrett City. This review is based on the delivery service not so much the food (which is good to be honest) Soo I called at 6:03pm and placed my order was told it would be 45 minutes. A hour and 40 minutes later the delivery guy calls me and tells me he is outside. He has some kind of excuse about being here earlier but they gave him the wrong address blah blah blah I didn't have an attitude BUT I also wasn't giving him a tip. After making an honest mistake in giving him $13 instead of $18, I overpaid him $19 and his slick ass kept it. You ever get real disoriented due to hunger? Think that's what happened. On top of that, the food was barely warm and I got a plain calzone instead of a chicken calzone that I ordered. I spend a lot of time travelling around NYC now, and on the go it's often hard to find cheap, easy eats that are along my path. I have to travel to Canarsie once a week, and I've been told that I should bring my food whenever I go there, because my vegitarian behind wouldn't find anything there. BOY WAS EVERYONE WRONG. Armondo's is RIGHT next to the L stop - the last stop on the L line - on Rockaway parkway. It's open late, and is remarkably affordable. Also more importantly - DELICIOUS. The grandma's slice I had was almost perfect. I'm a pizza snob - and this was way beyond my expectations. Well flavored, well seasoned, and such good sauce!! I only give them 4/5 stars because they could honestly use a little more space / seating. Other than that, it's really a fantastic place. I'd travel here if I didn't have to go to Canarsie regularly. Vodka slice is awesome as well as the spinach and artichoke and what they call the "upside down" slice. This place has been around a really long time and the folks here know what they're doing. The biggest problem with pizza places in Brooklyn is there's way too many good ones. I really don't think that it's that much of a problem though. Armondo's was ridiculous, in a great way. 20 minute wait for arguably the best Sicilian pie ever to come out of an oven. Let me start by saying that the crust and dough are without a doubt perfect. Thick, soft and crisp. Each bite better than the one before it. They cook the dough first, then the sauce and cheese goes on and back in the oven. The cheese is excellent quality and had amazing texture when coming out of the oven. My one complaint, if you can call it that, the sauce was a bit on the sweet side and not as fine as Di Fara's or New Park's. But that's a minor gripe. I wanted to eat more than the two squares I had. The delivery man didn't call, but he texted me. Which is okay, but what he texted me wasn't. He said "Pizza is outside" and while I was waiting for the elevator, he sends "I have to go" What kind of delivery is that? I thought he was going to leave the pizza on the floor outside and leave. I got downstairs anyway and I called him. He yelled a bunch of random things over the phone and I couldn't understand and he was speaking really fast. The he just hung up. I was going to contact the store when I saw him. I decide to give him $2 tip anyway, making my total $15. And I gave him a twenty. He says his change is in his car (??????!!!) So, on our next pizza journey, we wanted to see what we could find on Seamless, and Armando's popped up with a strong 5 stars to back it up. We were feeling a thin crust and, as we regretfully didn't go with their special sicilian pie (next time!), we picked a "margarita" pizza with pepperoni. The pizza. It came and I had my worries once I felt the bottom of the box: it seemed that the oil had softened the bottom and when picking up the slices I felt like the pizza was sticking to the box a bit. I remember the first time I had pizza there, I was very surprised that the pizza tasted so good there. And later when I was traveling in universal studio in orlando, where I met a local guy with his grandson at lunch time. We found out that he's in fact from Canarsie a while ago and even he remembered the pizza shop as one of the best ones in Brooklyn.
