One of the best pizza shops in Brooklyn! I usually order the plain slice. The sauce is sweet and delicious. Their parmesan sandwiches are nice & juicy. The buffalo wings are on point. So the food isn't too bad, but the 1 star is for the service. There's this tiny guy always working the counter with the biggest attitude problem. You can tell he doesn't want to be there and I can't stand purchasing food from a guy whose always pist off. My last straw was when I ordered some chicken Strombolis and when I asked for a sauce cup, he charged me $1.00! When I can, I head over to L & B Spumoni Gardens for my sicilian pizza fix. Getting there can be a chore and I have to be determined to face traffic. However, Armandos is closer and a damn good substitute for my fix. First of all, I ONLY get the Sicilian when it comes down to pizza and always the middle slice. The owner is a good guy. I only found one of his guys that worked for him to be a little annoying (he put my pepperoni pinwheel in a brown bag where it was grease everywhere) but I think he's gone. Who knew they'd still be in business after all these years. My sister (God rest her soul) introduced me to this special place when we were 'youngsters', and while helping my nephew with his homework a little while ago, the memories came flooding back. We sure did have some good times eating some of the best pizza I've ever tasted. So I have been coming here for at least 13 years. This spot is like one of Canarsie's landmark businesses. Its owned by an Italian family who's lived in Brooklyn for decades. Walk inside and there's pictures of old NYC, old Brooklyn, even old Canarsie lining about every inch of the wall to the left side of the shop. There's about 3-4 booths to sit at for patrons to relax. The TV is usually on up in the top left corner of the ceiling. Marble counter top bar lines the right side of the shop where all the different pies, appetizers, sweets, etc. are displayed. They make their pizzas out of a not so fancy or wowing gas oven. Everything is made right front of you. There may be a restroom but I never used it. The prices have definitely gone up quite a bit over the years. I mean, I remember when a slice of pizza was $1.25 over here. Now it's $2.50 and special slices go up to $3-4. It has gone through some management changes over the years too so that would explain price changes and the decline in their pizza quality too. Its a clean spot. It can get a bit busy but nothing alarming. Its literally 10 steps away from the entrance to the Rockaway L train station so its super convient for anyone just wanting a snack or pie on the way to their destination. During the summer they also have their side window open so people don't have to walk inside and order but just grab something real quick and be on their merry way. Italian ices, ice cream, fried oreos and all. They have the sweets that you may need as well, including cakes, pies, canolis, etc.. Now, i've pretty much lost the crave for this pizza sadly. The noticable changes over the years to the pizza and how its made just doesn't make me crave it like I use to. I stop in rarely just to see if i'll be surprised and that maybe its just certain people making the pizzas differently but no. Here's what i'm talking about: A really good Brooklyn pizza has a crust that's either two things, crunchy bottom and never flops (fold that crunchy bottom and it splits open just a little so that if you look at the bottom you can see the soft part of the crust soaking up the oil), then there's the chared bottom greasy slice that tastes like it was firm but the oils and sauces softened it so it hangs down a bit but stays in tact. The crust isn't anymore than 2-3 centimeters thick and when you pick it up, it should be dripping just a little (that's how you know its not dry or old). My favorite pizzas here are the bacon, margherita, BBQ chicken, Sicilian, and regular slice (for non-New Yorkers thats a cheese slice). The garlic knots have their moments when their special. Before you order them, check them out for a sheen surface. If not, then its not gonna be as good as they should be no matter how hot they serve it to you. The key is in the garlic oil they toss them in since they don't really infuse the dough with the oil rather they simply toss them. As far as the pizza though, its ok. I mean they started making the crusts thicker than 3 centimeters, I guess to give people the illusion they're getting a decent size slice of pizza for $2.50. The sauce is ehhhhh its ok. I mean it doesn't make me say, "wow thats a really good damn sauce." Its has a slight sweetness to it, not much of a garlic flavor at all. The consitency isn't really to my liking either. I like my sauces thick like a spread, but theirs is more loose like runny oatmeal. It holds its own flavor profile though. I tested the guys out again today by ordering a margherita pie too. This is how you really test a pizza shop by how well they can make a margarita (a light pizza with olive oil, garlic, fresh basil, fresh tomatoes, mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses). The delivery guy got here within 30-40 mins (better had since I live down the street lol). The pie though, it was ok. Crust too thick on the bottom and they lined the outer crust with sesame seeds (no problem with the seeds but it was just hard and dry crust). I noticed the strips of basil. The basil taste was faint, I usually like a bit more. Now, here's the other thing, a margherita pizza should be so good that you don't need to add anything to it. It is suppose to have a super fresh and prominant garlic, herb and cheese flavor with a hint of olive oil, but this pie didn't. I had to grab garlic powder out of my cabinet to add to the pie. Next was the cheese. Just mozzorela. I don't think they make their mozzorela cheese themselves or I doubt they spend too much money on it either but it met its purpose. Like I said before, the sauce was a bit weak though. I was really upset though that when I folded each slice of pizza, I got no drips :-(.....where's the drip??? Well I wrote enough. I still say go in and try the pizza anyway. They're still my Armondo's when it comes to pizza anywhere else in Canarsie. I'll give them 3.5 stars because of the history I have with that location.Their sicilian pizza is truly the best out of everything they have there. read more

Found this place on yelp I decide to go for I think it's called the Sicilian sampler. It was good I can't complain much about the pizza but the reason I don't give it five stars is mostly because of the misunderstanding on the phone I was told one price but charged another. I just think if you answer the phone you should know the prices and it's OK if you don't and you ask the prices to another price (the guy did ask another worker) but please quote me right or honor the quote that you said over the phone. That's all... also if you say is going to take 55 minutes for the pizza to get done the least you can do is call when it's done... I've lived in Canarsie for a good part of my life and I believe I've only had pizza here twice in the past and it was good but not great. I've recently ordered a large Pepperoni Lover Pizza here last week and I was amazed how much better the pizza was from what I remembered growing up. Called right after I ordered to make sure they got the order, they confirmed they did. 9:45 comes around and no delivery, tried calling and no answer. Really really disappointed with the service. Whenever I am in Canarsie, I stop by this place for a large cheese pie. It's the best Pizza in NY. The staff are pleasant enough. I witnessed them handle an irate customer (customer walked in irritable) in a professional dignified manner. How can I not be a fan? I keep coming back, almost daily. It's right there for when I get off the B6 from work before I can hop on the L. I think they are quite good. Obviously the cost of rent and renovations has caused their prices to rise. Everything is about 50 cents more than last year. Things I've tried: Mainstays (they've always had these for at least 3-4 years) : 1) Chicken Rolls: My brother thinks their chicken rolls amazing because they are one of the few spots that do not skimp out on chicken. When he visits NY he asks me to pick one up for him. To him, they are the greatest things ever. I wouldn't go that far but yes they are tasty and filling. 2) Grandma slice: delicious and garlicky. really pricey for something so small. 3) Pinwheels; at 3 for a dollar, who can beat that! chicken and pepperoni. New additions I've tried (that have come with the renovations I guess) 1) Mozzarella sticks: some of the best I've ever had. 2) Roman slice: potatoes in a stuffed meaty pizza! yum! 3) Cheese and Ham calzone; tasty and filling! 4) Cakes and cannolis: meh. canolli was okay; cake was too sweet 5) Hot dog roll: no good. too much bread, not enough cheese. Who the hell are these people giving 4 and 5 stars? This place is absolutely disgusting. A square slice of pizza I got had two layers of old cheese: one waxy, the other spongy. The mozzarella sticks were stale and lukewarm. I'm not picky about pizza; Domino's & Pizza Hut do me just fine in a pinch. Their food is just awful.
