This is my first time ordering from Spread love and Eat. I ordered about 40 minutes before closing and honestly expected the food to be a little past its prime--but I was pleasantly surprised! My meal arrived right on time, piping hot, fresh, and definitely not the "leftover of the day." I'm usually not a fan of wild salmon, but this dish completely changed my mind. The salmon was tender and flavorful, with an accompanying sauce filled with red and green peppers, tomatoes finely diced and a red sauce. Must I say it was absolutely delicious. The jasmine rice was perfectly cooked and the vegetables were blanched just right. I enjoyed my dinner. I will definitely be ordering this again and sampling other dishes on the menu. Stopped into Spread Love & Eat for the second time, and once again, it didn't disappoint! The first time I visited, I had the spring salad, which was absolutely delicious. This time around, I tried the BBQ salmon pesto with fries and the black bean burger with fries--both were so flavorful and satisfying. The aesthetic of the restaurant is cozy and welcoming, with good music playing in the background that sets a great vibe. The staff is super friendly, and the whole environment just makes you want to stay a little longer. I even had the chance to meet the owner during my visit, and he was incredibly kind and passionate about what he's building here. You can feel the love and dedication in both the food and the atmosphere. He mentioned there's a live music event happening on May 31st--so if you're in the area, definitely check it out! My friend Pinar and I recently found this gem in Brooklyn during a birthday weekend in the city. The owner, Rony, turned out to be the true jewel of our entire four-day vacation. We visited twice--once for dinner and once for a late breakfast/early lunch--so we tried many items. Rony is a Haitian American veteran and symbolizes what makes our country great when it's truly realized and accepted. Now, on to the food... During our first visit, we tried the Toona Salad, the vegan steak with steamed rice and green beans, and the plantains. During the second visit, three days later, we ordered the chickpea curry, apple oats, and the tofu scramble wrap. You can tell by the pictures how delightfully everything is presented, and the flavor was a hundredfold as good. I'm not vegan or vegetarian like my friend, who has been vegan for many years, but I wasn't missing anything. I've loved mushrooms and tofu my whole meat-eating life, and when correctly marinated and prepared, both are textural marvels, ranging from delicate and custardy to deep-fried and crunchy. Their unmatched flavor-absorbing powers make mushrooms and tofu a blank canvas waiting for the artist to make their mark. Rony Theodore is such an artist; he created all of these wonderful flavors and recipes. I can see why, as we enjoyed our meals, there were people constantly picking up to-go orders. He never missed a beat acknowledging their presence and keeping the customers engaged during our entire visit, both times. The staff is friendly and top-notch; you can tell they feel appreciated and part of the family. The chickpeas in the Toona Salad provide a low-glycemic protein option that I couldn't have imagined before trying it. Growing up military, I've had my fair share of tuna sandwiches, and I'm happy to have the chickpea version from now on. The plantains and their special sauce weren't sweet or glazed like I've had in the past, and I appreciate being able to enjoy them lightly fried without any extra sugar; like Rony, they're sweet enough as they come. The chickpea curry was super flavorful, and the texture was perfection. The green beans were sautéed flawlessly both times and flavored with garlic, as they should be. I only had a bite of the apples and oats before Pinar polished off the entire bowl in under four minutes--seriously... I'm mad about it. Did you only need a great latte? Don't miss out on the God-tier espresso machine and burr grinder; the staff is trained to make amazing macchiatos along with several other espresso- or coffee-based beverages. Also worth mentioning are the various coconut waters in the fridge towards the back of the restaurant. I've never been a fan of coconut water, but I bought a case of the bottled version because it's really like having someone hand you a coconut with a straw during an island getaway. Hearing the Haitian language spoken by Rony to his staff gave me some smooth-brain feelings; it's such a beautiful language. I'm fairly certain Brooklyn has a plethora of Caribbean-themed restaurants, but with respect to the others, this one stands out well above anything I've tried before. You can tell this establishment appeals to a healthier crowd, being located directly across from a large gym. Everyone is friendly inside and out, and all of the locally made artwork will keep your attention as you wait for your meal. Stop by on your next trip to Brooklyn and do yourself a favor: spread the love and eat healthy. Can't say enough good things about this veteran owned, Haitian owned spot. So much care is put into the preparation and presentation of the meals. When I arrived, we were warmly greeted by the staff and shortly after approached by the owner who introduced himself and we chopped it up talking about his background and events happening at the restaurant. As I said presentation is beautiful, my salmon salad came out on a huge wooden plank in a large artisanal bowl, my companion's soup was beautifully presented in a miniature caldero. The portions did not skimp and every bite of food was bursting with flavor. The sauces -- OMG! Incredible. It's clear they cook with love. The best sandwich I've had in a long time. About halfway through I thought to myself this is better than eating chicken because I feel so much lighter eating it, it's softer, and it taste just as good if not better. Their sauces are great, and I really like the bbq sauce they use. Really fresh food with great seasoning. I'll be dining here again. I was excited when I saw this new spot show up in the neighborhood. Much needed addition to the neighborhood. It opened April 1st and yesterday I got to try them out. On the menu there are sandwiches, salads, and warm bowls. The selections are limited but looked good. I ordered the salmon pesto bbq sandwich. It took some time to prepare, everything was being prepared fresh. The sandwich was nicely packed with a flower. The sandwich was delicious. Salmon was cooked to perfection. VEGANS AND VEGATARIANS BEWARE: THIS RESTAURANT IS NOT A 100% VEGAN RESTAURANT! This is a restaurant with vegan options on it's menu. There are REAL CHICKEN, SALMON and SHRIMP dishes on their menu but they are not really listed as real meat items. Also, MOST OF THE HOT DRINKS HAVE REAL MILK IN THEM. If you're vegan or vegetarian and decide to eat here, READ THE MENU CAREFULLY. There is no vegan section on the menu. Everything is piled in together on the menu. Real meat dishes are listed along with vegan dishes and some of the real meat dishes are not leven abeled as such. They have only 5 salads on their whole menu and NONE OF THE SALADS are vegan. The Brekke Vegan Salad on their menu has Feta Chese in it but it is not listed as vegan feta cheese. The other 4 salads have either Ceasar Dressing, Shrimp Salmon or chicken in them. NOT VEGAN!! There are only 5 Tacos on the menu and 4 of them are DEFINITELY NOT VEGAN. 1 of the is pssibly vegan if you trust that the Chili Lime Sauce is vegan but, it is not listed as vegan so... The menu is about 65% vegan. READ, READ, READ EVERYTHING. Owner, It is very deceiving to call yourself a "Hatian Vegan Restaurant" when you are not a 100% vegan restaurant. You are a restaurant with VEGAN OPTIONS. Please correct that. Correct your website and your menu too. Place the vegan options in a section on the menu labeled vegan options on your menu. I wasted money ordering a dish from here thinking the dish is vegan. I am glad that My eyes and my nose don't deceive me and I reasearched the whole menu then I threw it away and did not eat it. I originally ordered a dish from your menu maned 'SLE Salmon Rice Vegetable" Got it home, looked at it and was surprised to see REAL SALMON! I am VEGAN. I THOUGHT this was a 100% VEGAN RESTAURANT? That is how you sell yourself isn't it? Well, I looked at another Salmon item (Salmon Taco) on your menu and it says "Wild Caught Salmon." But, the "SLE Salmon Rice" Plate was not that descriptive. FIX YOUR MENU. PUT THE VEGAN STUFF UNDER A VEGAN HEADING! FIX YOUR WEBSITE! YOU ARE NOT A 100% VEGAN RESTAURANT! It's ILLEGAL to call yourself a "vegan restaturnat" but also sell non-vegan stuff in the restaurant. I am issuing a fair warning. PLEASE CORRECT YOUR ADVERTISING NOW. Complaints may need to be filed with the FTC, State Consumer Protection Agency and the Health Department if these changes are not made NOW. This little place is so unexpectedly ...wow. I love the artistry of the space and the artwork on the walls. It transported me into another space and time. OK maybe I'm being dramatic but I really enjoyed the space. The food was very good my friend who is a little leery of other foods (vegetarian vegetables ??!!?) I mean it is the food that ... anyway you know people get a little wary. She enjoyed the cauliflower. Maybe not a five but I probably would've given it a five. I have to say I really enjoy fried oyster mushrooms but these were definitely, definitely my number one right now. Oh, and my friend tasted it. She enjoyed it. She was surprisingly pleased. So I just so happened to be in the neighborhood for an appointment. I needed a healthy place to eat with wifi to take a meeting. First thing I asked was if they had wifi. Taking that meeting was priority, I must admit . I ordered the Poke Bowl which came with ginger tofu as protein and wanted to replace it with shrimp and chicken. It came out to just under 30 bucks, sounds a bit much for a poke bowl right ?; please keep reading! So I thought to myself I'm already late for the meeting and I'm hungry so why not. I waited 10 minutes before they brought this beautiful platter served on a wooden board. The platter included the original ginger tofu poke bowl, a large order of shrimp and chicken breast. With a chill lime dipping sauce that was honestly one of the best sauces from as far back as my brain will allow me to remember!! Which made the price completely justifiable to me. Not exactly what I expected but I was even more pleased with what I received. The tofu was just a tad too salty for my liking. But I stand by the 5 stars regardless. Its a vegan option if you don't eat meat but for people that eat meat I don't think you could tell the difference between that and some fried chicken. The establishment is very clean and you can see everything they're doing while they make your food. All the staff are nice and I've never felt as though I've waited too long for my food. HORRIBLE.!!! I went there yesterday and there was no one in the restaurant. I arrived at 11:05 am and ordered chicken tacos. I did not get my tacos till after 12:00pm. I don't live far so when I got home the chicken was cold and tasted as if it was semi frozen. My friend ordered a salmon burger in which was tasted while waiting for my food and that was cold as well. Then the manager was upset when it was spoke upon. He had nothing but excuses saying he wasn't suppose to be open. If that's the case close and do not serve half cooked food. I can't see this place lasting till the end of the year. read more
