Most of their surplus is fairly reasonably priced, but some stuff does seem a little more expensive than it should be, seeing as it's surplus. Also, don't expect them to give you a fair price if you're trying to sell something, they WILL lowball the hell out of you. Good ACTUAL Surplus store, nice to see a real surplus store again in todays world where everything is just Chinese reproductions that are meant to look Like surplus. Lots of spare parts for vehicles and Field manuals as well as a plethora of medical supplies. My biggest complaint is the pricing on the 30 round green follower USGI magazines that are being sold for $20 a piece being the cheapest 30 round surplus magazine they have and only go up when you inquire about the tan and black follower magazines. They are $8.50 online. I just fact checked this before writing this and included a screenshot for that information. Okay industries 30 round USGI Magazines (which are govt contracted) are $12-$13 for brand new magazine's with the anti tilt follower which the green follower magazine offered for $20 at this location does not have. Also noticed old generation MRE components mixed in with the new ones. If you don't know how to date them or even know which is a new or old package style you could get sick eating one. I think maybe separating them and labeling them OLD & new would be a better business practice. But they do in fact have new MRE's for sure and i definitely grabbed some today for hiking/camping. MRE's are $12.95 online on the website but when you go into the store they are nearly $15? Why? Overall good shop, a little pricey here and there. Will be back for certain aspects of the shop. They do have a lot of unique gear! However, just because it's unique doesn't mean it's rare or expensive. I also understand needing to make a profit, but to offer $50 for a near mint IOTV, that they themselves sell for $299.95, well, that a bit of an insult. Keep your gear and your "unique" equipment, as well as your used $199.99 ALICE packs with frames. If anyone needs an ALICE with a frame that has the straps and kidney pads/belts, hit me up. I wasn't sure of what to think of it since it was surprisingly small. It seems like the majority of their focus is on their awesome website. So if you want to save on shipping check from home first. I was looking for MRE's and found a great deal (12 for $50). I look forward to going back. And now I know that I can browse from the comfort of my own home and then just go in and pick it up. My "old world" view of a surplus store is a giant cold warehouse that takes an hour to go through. This feels like a newer version. Lower overhead on a brick and mortar and the expansive website. I am not in the practice of writing negative reviews simply to vent because I am fully aware of how impact that something like this can affect their business for the present and the future. I do so only when I experience an event that truly shakes me to the core and hope that my input brings about a change in their mind set by knowing how their actions or inactions affected me as a customer. On July 31, 2020, I traveled to San Antonio from Victoria, TX for the purpose to buy all the required uniform items and accessories to outfit myself to serve on an Honor Guard Team providing military funeral services for deceased veterans. For starters, there was only one employee in the entire store to attend to the cashier functions and to customers on the floor. The store setup was cluttered with narrow aisles and racks upon racks of used uniforms hanging in a disorganized manner plus boots and other merchandise piled up to top of dusty shelves. There was in influx of customers in the store at the same time not allowing the clerk to help customers on the floor. I finally managed to get her attention for help because I could not find matching uniform items. She rushed into a crowded back room and emerged with trousers saying they would fit me. By that time, I was tired and flustered and did not even notice that the shirt and pants did not even match. I finally found numerous items that I could use for my Honor Guard uniform to the tune of $174.74. Due to pending bad weather forecast and the late hour in the evening I decided to stay overnight in at hotel. During that evening I communicated with a team leader who informed me that used uniforms were not allowed in the Honor Guard. The next day I returned to the store to request a refund with what I honestly believed was a legitimate and reasonable explanation. This time there was a different clerk who declined to return the funds on the top and bottom that did not match. At first, she said that the receipt stated that "all sales are final" which it did not. Then she said that due to the COVID 19 no returns were accepted. I told her that I had not even touched the items after I left the store and that they were still in the same bag. Then she said that there is a sign on the door stating that all sales are final. I NEVER SAW IT. I only asked for a refund for the shirt and pants that did not match for a total $25.90 plus tax, not the full amount. I left the items on the counter saying I did not agree with what she did. I asked to speak to the owner David Gardner and to this date he has not extended the courtesy of even a phone call. read more
