I love helping the local stores in Helotes, and this store is really easy to help. The owner is a Firefighter and so is another employee. I used to volunteer with Firefighters in another city and they are some of the most selfless, giving and amazing people! Same applies here. Always service with a smile, I've never heard "no, we can't get that, or do that". It's easy if you walk in knowing already what you need or want. I love having this store close by. read more

I've had a good experience that last few times I've came here. The customer service has been good. The prices online and in-store are fair. Their shop is not very big, it's located inside a hardware store. (Which is cool.) But, they have a good selection of AR parts. HTF is a small store in the back of Elf Hardware. Small selection of new and used guns, but they can order just about anything you need, and get it in quickly at competitive prices. Staff is friendly, approachable and knowledgable. In the few months I have dealt with them (by phone) they have always been courteous and helpful with any questions I have. They have also always called me back in a timely manner. I have never experienced any negative responses whether asking about pricing, availability or just general questions. These things alone have prompted me to make my next purchase there. I already have a trust and I ordered a suppressor from Helotes Tactical in Jan. They said they had to order it and get it in before I could do the paperwork and pay for it. I said no problem. Over the next 6 months, I called no less than 10 times and left at least 6 messages (at BOTH locations) asking them to call me back..... NOTHING. I simply wanted to ask a question as well as order a second suppressor in addition to the first one. In June, after 6 months of not being able to talk to someone that had any clue about their suppressor program and not hearing back from them, I had had enough and went down to Ranger Firearms in San Antonio and was done with paperwork, payment etc in less than a week. They have sent email messages (automated I think) updating me on the status every time something happens (ATF cashng check, etc) or changes. Paperwork and fingerprinting was done in the store on a Kiosk in about 30 minutes. They emailed me a link for all forms and I signed electronically on my computer at home and the forms were submitted less than two days later. Ranger Firearms is affiliated with The Suppressor Shop in Austin, one of the largest suppressor stores in America. Do yourself a favor, DO NOT GO TO HELOTES TACTICAL FIREARMS. I was sold a low serial # sporterized 1903 Springfield for ~$200 by these guys a few months ago. I consider myself somewhat of a military buff and am an avid shooter, but I was not aware of the unique history of this low serial # rifle that leaves it inherently unsafe to fire nor was I informed of this by the salesmen at the store. I was however told they "got it for a good price and we're letting it go for a good price" and also "we test fire every used weapon we sell". There was also another gentleman looking at the rifle and who told the salesmen he would be back after going to the bank. I was told "You had better grab it while you can", quickly checked out and ushered out of the store. Feeing elated I had received such a safe and working relic at such a good price I did some digging. Much to my dismay, my research turned up why the WW1 era rifle was so cheap, it was unsafe lemon. read more

One of the best shops I have ever been to. Small but not lacking in firearms and accessories because their online selection is pretty good. Customer service is top of the line. As a first time builder he answered any questions I had and was not made to feel like a outsider like some other places in town. Thought about buying a gun and having it transferred to this place? Might want to reconsider. Performing a simple transfer showed the owner's true colors; verbally abusive, impatient, and generally unappreciative of the business. Caveat Emptor is the operant catch phrase here along with their anti-social "Don't call us, we will call you" policy statement and attitude! Take your business somewhere it will be appreciated.and business conduct and customer service is held to a more professional standard. read more

Mr. Quipp runs a fine shop in the back of Elf Hardware. Transfers are a very reasonable $25 and he has a good variety of pistols and rifles from which to choose. Definitely give him and Helotes Tactical a look. read more

Nice little gun shop excellent customer service great on prices. Has rifles shotguns and hand guns. I would say they are an AR 15 specialist shop although they have accessories and bullets for more than AR's. read more

These guys are the most reasonably priced gun store I have found. I have purchased several suppressors and more than 30 firearms from them and every transaction has been very quick and easy. They also do transfers which I found to be more reasonable than most FFL dealers close to me. I have had a few transfers done and all went very quick and easy once they received the firearm. You normally get your gun same day if not the next. I have had guns transferred to other FFL's and had to wait a week or more to receive my firearm. read more
