To know Armen is to love Armen. What a find. It's so difficult to find good tailors anymore since it is a dying craft. I would say that Armen is a funny character and also a savvy business man. I think his prices are on par with other tailors but don't hold me to that since I don't have a lot of experience. He was able to alter 2 suits and 2 gowns for me in expedited time! I didn't even know he did womens wear. My gown was sequin, and it came out great. We brought in a tuxedo bought somewhere else, and he didn't try and push a sale of one of his own. I don't want to suggest bringing in last minute work, but if you do need it - he's your guy. Unless it's prom or wedding season, then you're just sol! All in all, I highly recommend Armen if you don't mind trekking up to Manyunk. I didn't want to go into the city and be treated like second rate citizens. Very happy with his work! read more

I've gone to Armen a couple of times since moving to Philadelphia a few months ago. Each time he has done a fantastic job making sure everything is exactly the way I want it. The quality of his work speaks for itself, you will never go to another tailor again. My last trip to Armen's I brought along with me a couple of tuxes I had bought online. He took the time to walk me through what he liked and disliked about each of them, and helped me compare them to one of his own. Rude with no customer service if he isn't selling you a suit or a pair of 150.00 jeans. I took a pair of jeans that were too big to Armen's last month to be tailored since he advertises himself as a "denim specialist". The jeans needed to have the waist taken in and the rise shortened in the front and back - all of this was made clear to Armen himself at the first visit. I was told the jeans would be ready in a week. Not only were the jeans not ready after a week, they weren't even touched. I walked into the store to pick them up and was greeted by an employee who told me that if I came back an hour later, the jeans would be ready. Hmmm. Why did I have to wait a week if the work only took an hour? I explained that I didn't want the alterations to be a rush job, so it was decided that I would come back in two days to pick them up. When I returned, Armen simply handed me the jeans - when I explained that I wanted to try them on, he told me there was no need. I said I'd like to anyways and he threw an annoyed look and shrugged. I tried on the jeans and *shocker * they were still huge, especially in the crotch area. I came out of the dressing room and asked him why the alterations that were agreed upon weren't completed and he said that there was nothing he could do about the rise of the jeans and that he took the waist in and that was all that could be done. I voiced my disappointment and he shrugged me off in a very dismissive and very rude manner. I ended up taking the jeans to the Plymouth Tailor in the Plymouth Meeting Mall who fixed the rise of the jeans without any issue at all and for half the price that Armen's charged. read more

Armen has thus far altered two suits and a number of shirts for me and I have been more than satisfied with his services. He is always kind, warm, and friendly, and I really enjoy chatting with him while he works. He is also very forthright in helping customers to understand his recommendations and pricing. In shortening shirt sleeves, he always presents me with two options so that I can make an informed decision based on style and price, which I really appreciate about him. I have sent several friends to him for alterations or to buy custom suits and they have all been very pleased. Others reviewers have complained about or questioned pricing. I don't know a lot about what's reasonable versus what's not, but I view a tailor like a barber or hairstylist-- I'm willing to pay for quality work and a welcoming environment. I should add that Armen's shop is incredibly busy, but he has still turned around an entire suit's worth of alterations for me in as little as three days when I had a last minute event to attend (TWICE, no less)-- and I know that he stayed after hours to do so, without tacking on any rush charges. He's just a good guy that does good work, and I will continue to use his services and refer friends to him for as long as I live in Philadelphia. read more

I almost wish I had more things to get fitted, snipped and tucked. I was in a wedding recently, and made an appointment through Macy's, where I got my bridesmaids dress. They only appointment I could get was really close to the wedding date, and during business hours. I would have had to take time off work and drive all the way to Jersey for this. Screw that. I found Armen through Yelp and took a chance since he is 5 minutes away from my house. When I called, no appointment was needed. He told me to just stop by any time after work, so I did. I was in and out of there in less than 20 minutes. Which was great considering it was an incredibly hot and humid day and all I could think about was going home to my air conditioning. Armen didn't waste any time after I got into my dress and had pinned me up, made his marks, and even a few suggestions, while being very personable and friendly. It was no problem getting my dress in time for the wedding, even if further alterations were needed. He told me though, "that won't be necessary," and well heck, he was right. Went back and my dress fit perfectly. The price was a little higher that I thought it'd be. Nothing exorbitant, but for the convenience and time he saved me, not to mention the opportunity to help support a small, local business, I didn't mind shelling out a few extra bucks. Do you spend entirely too much on "designer" jeans only to have those fashionably frayed hems lose their fashionable fray when you get them altered. If that sounds familiar, then Armen's may be the place for you. Pricey jeans hemming- we're talking more than $20 to keep the original hem- but worth it if your're paying more than $150 for those jeans in the first place. I recently brought a new dress into Armen's for some basic alternations (the chest and waist needed to be taken in a little). It's been over 4 years since my last visit for bridesmaid dress alteration and Armen said he recognized me. I feel like that was forever ago and he must see a ton of people, but it was flattering nonetheless. The entire process was a breeze. I tried on the dress, he measured me, I paid and he told me when to come back. The dress was supposed to be ready after 5:00 on our specified day, but I gave a call around noon was able to pick it up a few hours early. He did a great job with the alterations and now the dress fits me perfectly. In terms of pricing, I'm really not sure where Armen's Custom Tailor stacks up. Armen is not only the best tailor I've ever been too, but an honest guy that goes out of his way to help his customers. Below are a few examples: 1. I needed a suite tailored for a wedding in two days. He worked hard to get it done for me! 2. If I'm not satisfied with his work (which is very very rare), he fixes it for free. In fact, he kept fixing it free-of-charge until it was to my exact liking. 3. I work late hours and a lot of times can't get to his store until 5 minutes after his store closes. However, if I call, he'll wait for me every time! I even was once 15 minutes late and he was still there. 4. He gave me an Italian dress shirt once, as a gift because I brought him so much business (he fixed all my clothes!). I highly recommend Armen. In fact, I referred a friend to Armen once, and this friend has now moved out of Philadelphia. To this day, if my friend's clothes ever need alterations, he travels all the way back to Philadelphia, to Armen's store. They day I move from Philly, I'll probably do the same! read more

I would like to start off with the fact that Armen (the owner) is one of the nicest and funniest guys I have met and it's super easy to talk to him. He works incredibly quick and can get you fitted in under 20 minutes. His shop is beautiful with tons of different jackets and suits/tuxedos. Anyways, Went here after looking on Reddit for tailors in manayunk/roxborough for some alterations. We went to Armen for our wedding. He was amazing to work with and made the entire process so seamless. In total, he did nine suits for us (groom, six groomsmen, father of the bride, and father of the groom). He was able to get the suits ordered, in on time, and altered well before our wedding date - which made for a very calm bride. Ive been coming to Armen for years along with my family and most of my friends. He has a great selection of suits, sports jackets and suits to choose from. You can purchase a suit and get it fully tailored for very reasonable prices. I have ran into professional athletes in here and id like to say that his reputation speaks for itself. I have purchased 4 suits, up words of 20 shirts and have had over 100 pieces of pants and shirts tailored. If something was a little off the first time around, he would immediately fix it at no cost. I brought 2 dress shirts to him to have then tailored and they quickly became my favorite, go-to shirts. Wow. I basically take back everything I said in my original post! The major alterations on my peacoat are still good, but Armen sewed up a hole in one of the pockets and the stitching he did came out almost immediately. Even worse, since I was initially so pleased with my peacoat, I took 2 of my wife's work pants to Armen to be hemmed. Both hems in both pants completely came out the first time she wore them. She had them fixed at her dry cleaner for $4 each pair (compared to the $30 total Armen charged for both pairs). I have no idea what happened, but unfortunately, I don't have confidence going back to him now. read more

When I got my first suite here, he realized that the one I had picked out had a slight manufacturing issue (that I couldn't even notice) after he had tailored it, so he made another one and gave me the first for free. I am also in sales and walk around in my suit all day, so I wear through them quickly and he offers quick and cheap service any time I need repair.
