This is the place to visit if you are near Rock Island Arsenal for travel or driving through the Iowa/Illinois border. Ordering is done with logic. Fun and easy! I stopped by for a late night snack. Very much bar food/restaurant. I call these types of options "children's heaven" as everything is finger food, kid friendly. I know the main attraction is a selection of beers, which is great, but I ordered the Eileen hamburger. Don't bother wasting your time. It was overcooked, crusty and crappy, terribly disappointed.. It was not good at all. I should've sent it back, but I've been a little sick so I really couldn't taste it. The only thing I noticed was a crunchy edges on it, which was not pleasant at all. I'd never eat there again and another reason I didn't say anything. It's cause it's only a 10 $11 hamburger so you can't expect much for a $10 hamburger however I can recommend the beers. Got a family to-go order here recently. (We were originally planning to eat on the patio, called ahead to ask about heaters, and were assured that it would be doable. Once we got there, it was clear that the heater wasn't sufficient to fight off a midwestern winter.) While we waited for the order to be prepared, we had a little drink in the bar area. I'm not a beer person, but I've never seen a wall of beer taps like that here: 30'+ long. This review is specific to the food. The service was pretty good on the bar side, as was the 'counter service' for the food. Everything that's supposed to be fresh is fresh, and the ingredients look to be quality. The downside? Bad cooking. They seem to be attempting the smashed burger trend, but fall flat on the execution. The burgers are smashed to oblivion, likely several times during the process, until there's no juice left in the patty, and no seasoning. I tried the burger twice, with the same result. I've had about every smash style burger in town, and this one ranks last. Total shame, because the pickles and lettuce and bun were high quality, though the bun not toasted, which should probably be a given, with it's minimum $11.50 price tag. Another trip had me craving fried cheese curds. They looked to be breaded on site (plus), but again, the execution failed. the breading wasn't done, though cheese popped out of the coating on over half, meaning the oil was either past it's prime, or not the right temperature. The ranch dressing they offered on the side was definitely made on site. Using the dressing turned out to be a drippy mess, as it was too thin and runny. They might've gotten one more star, but everything on their menu is priced at a point that the food better be executed properly. My cheese curds were $12! Next time I'm downtown looking for food, maybe I should head to Kitchen Brigade @ Stompbox . read more

I haven't had an opportunity to eat barbecue at Armored Gardens, but have now visited the bar side twice and find it thoroughly enjoyable! There are approximately 10,000 beers on tap making the menu difficult to read, but if you're motivated (/blind) enough, it's available on their official website as well. The menu is also organized by type of beer. Given that so much of the beer is made by independent breweries the higher price tag came as no surprise, though I did note on Thursday afternoon that they were advertising $5 domestic pitchers. Then there's the facility itself: AMAZING. The attention to detail is stunning. Vintage pictures and knick-knacks vie for space on every crowded wall. And the games. SO MANY! There are a dozen or so board games available for your recreational pleasure inside and if you step outside you'll find ping pong, beer pong, a putting green, and giant chess. If you're bored at Armored Gardens, the problem is you. I love this place! Tentatively excited to come back for a meal. The only complaint I have is that when I came on a weekend night it was very loud. Those high ceilings create an echo that you'll really notice when it's crowded.
