Heavy metal vibes and ice cold beers. Needing a break from the afternoon shenanigans, we walked over to Stompbox Brewing after checking out the Skybridge for a quick drink. We didn't exactly plan to visit it this early into the day but since it was right there, we figured it was the perfect time to check it out so we didn't have to backtrack. Upon walking in, I knew I was in my place. I am a big fan of hard rock and heavy metal and this place oozed with tributes and references to many metal bands and songs. But, it doesn't beat you over the head with it too much and has a restaurant/bar vibe going as well. Emily and I took a table and ordered some drinks while we took this place in. We didn't have late lunch plans but knew we wanted to keep exploring before eating and settling in for the day, so we stuck with just beer here. The food menu did look pretty good and the hot pretzel bites did sound like the perfect accompaniment to our beer but maybe next time. I grabbed the Hefe Metal and Emily got a flight of beers. Her choices were: Devils Made Me Brew It, Flood Insurance, When the Levee Breaks, and Peach Fuzz. I really enjoyed my Hefe Metal and grabbed a can of it to go. Emily really liked the When the Levee Breaks but, in general, liked all her beers but the Devils. When we first took a sip, it was really good but at the halfway point, the beer started to smell and taste like a dirty gym locker room. She let me have the honors of putting the rest of it down. While we were relaxing and having our beers, we saw they had stickers and some sweet shirt designs. The stickers were only $1, so we grabbed two of each. There was a shirt design we both really liked but only mine was in stock. Emily was okay with that since one of the stickers had the design on it, too. Shirts were $25 a piece. Since we were only here for a quick stop, I'll keep this short. The beer for the most part was delicious. The people working were super friendly and the vibe of the place was killer. Between here, Wake Brewing, and Raccoon Motel, I'm starting to think the Quad Cities has a pretty solid heave metal scene... which is pretty frickin' a in my book. I'd highly suggest Stompbox Brewing if you need a place to grab a beer and do some light headbanging.

First off - cute little spot, great atmosphere, good vibe & cold brews. Hate to be the great big bear of bad news though - it was evening & we extended the grace with our server but we had to put in our food / drink order 3 times. And then we watched our food sit in the kitchen window for quite a few minutes. Will definitely give this place another go - however the service & delivery were just not up to par on this particular evening.

Amazing appetizer... the Elote Dip! I'm not sure I could order anything else! Great sour beer and came in multiple sizes! Friendly staff!

    Chicken bacon ranch pizza--delicious!

Everything here was great! Great location overlooking the river, great service from the whole team, and the pizza was excellent! Seriously one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. The beer was good, but the pizza was amazing. I'll definitely be back!

Stopped in for beer and apps. Both were incredible. Cheese box without a doubt the best fried mozzarella I've had. Fresh cheese, light breading great sauce (basically broncoberry sauce from arbys) Nachos were maaaassive, thick chips that stood up to all the toppings never got soggy. Beer, really strong super good, some of the best hazy ipas around. My only fear about this place is when the river floods cause would hate to see this business destroyed.

Good food, service, and atmosphere. Smash burgers were a hit. Wings as an appetizer were good too.

Heavy metal riffage in a ice cold glass…read more To round out a day of exploring the Quad Cities, Emily and I dropped into Wake Brewing to have a beer and a few rounds of Uno and a few other card games to relax before the drive. I didn't look into the place before we stopped here so I assumed it was either surfer-themed or was attached to a coffeehouse. Little did we know it was a heavy metal/groove metal nanobrewery. I thrive on heavy metal so perfect for me, not so much for Emily. There were about 10 beers on tap to pick from so I got the Midlife Crisis (fitting as I near 40) and Emily got the Green Mind. The place was filled with what felt like the regulars so we took a spot over in a corner to drink one last beer before the road and play some card games in my 'pub kit' as seen in the cover photo above. My pub kit is a simple plastic container I got from Walmart that is full of quick and easy games to play at breweries, coffeehouses, or wherever you are. It just happens to be plastered in stickers from my travels. Anywho, back to the topic at hand. I really liked Wake Brewing. I have been into IPAs lately and tried a West Coast one for the first time. It was tasty but since I've been drinking hazy or tropical ones, it didn't quite hit like I am used to but that's on me and not the beer itself. Emily really liked her gose beer. I was eyeing the other IPAs on the menu but with a 2 hour drive back, I didn't want to delay us getting home before too late. While we sat there, some really nice groove metal was playing. It reminded me of Tool but less technical and more foot tapping. Shazam said it was King Buffalo and I'll have to check them out once life settles down a bit. If the heavy metal scene scares you, don't be intimidated. Most metal heads are big nerds and are some of the chillest people around. We didn't stick around too long but I wish we had. I loved the entire vibe of this place and would've liked to try some of their other beers. They do have some merch for sell, so you know Emily and I got all their stickers for this trip. If luck finds us back here again, I will def get a shirt. Anything to support heavy metal (and beer). As a side note, do know that trying to park here had me miss the parking lot's few entrances quite a few times. So, if it's your first time, be vigilant of the weird layout and multiple entrances. Rock on!

The IPA I had was solid, and the barrel aged barleywine I bought to take home was outstanding. Staff are a little gruff, but no more so than some places. Not jerks, just folks tired of dealing with idiots, and they don't know yet if you are an idiot. The smashburger food truck screwed up my order so was only able to eat half the food I ordered, but not really Wake's fault. The vide was nice, I loved the industrial patio. If I were in town longer, I would have made another visit. Worth stopping by if you are a brewery person!

We were barely seated when they began taking drink orders--super efficient and friendly service right from the start. I tried the Cherry Bomb Blonde beer and really enjoyed it--light and flavorful. The servers worked as a team and got everyone's orders in quickly, which is impressive for a group our size. We started with the pretzel bites and beer cheese, which were a definite 10/10--warm, soft, and perfectly paired with the cheese. We also shared a hamburger pizza, and really appreciated the thin crust and how the hamburger was broken up into small pieces. The sauce was sweet, and we would've loved just a little more of it (or maybe some on the side for dipping). We're not from the area, but if we were, this would definitely be a regular spot. I've included pictures of the BLT pizza and the jalapeño pineapple pizza that others in our group ordered--both got great reviews too. Overall, fast and friendly service, especially impressive for a large group, and the food was delicious. Highly recommend!

My first choice was an ipa but they were out off all of their IPA's on the day I went. I ordered a pineapple upside down cake sour that was gluten free instead. And I wasn't disappointed. It wasn't really sour but had a nice sweetness and it really tasted like pineapple upside down cake. I definitely recommend trying it. For lunch I went with The Candied Chick-ciabatta bun, grilled chicken, candied bacon, tomato, smoked Gouda, and ranch. They have several side options that don't have an up charge so I went with the chips and queso. The sandwich was delish and exactly what I was looking for. The chicken was actually grilled and you could tell that they actually cook the food and use real ingredients and food. The bacon was delicious and I loved the combo. I equally loved the chips and queso. The chips are also handmade. I saw someone with nacho and these chips would be killer in them because they definitely wouldn't be getting soggy. Highly recommend this sandwich and side. I loved this spot and I'm so happy that I stopped. If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely stop in.

Wait times for food were well over an hour and there was a glitch the ordering system. My sister -in-law comes to this place often and even noted this was not common for the restaurant. Our server made adjustments to our bill and I made sure to give her a good tip even though the delay in getting our food was poor. The food itself was good and worthy of another visit. As I said, our server did a wonderful job but my wife had to ask 3 times over the hour plus wait to get answers about what was going on. My wife and daughters have worked front of house service so we can understand issues. As for the back of the house, it says to me that she a front of house server has to help expedite orders, there is a management and training issue that has to be resolved. Our server was apologetic and sincere and that says a lot for her abilities. As for the back of house and overall management, there needs to be improvement. Would I recommend this place? Yes but with a warning that while the food is good and the severs do well, one may end up waiting on their food.

We stopped in to Granite City as it is right next to our hotel. Easy…read more. A hostess will seat you. No greeting arriving (or departing,) other than "just two?". She was efficient and smiled. Our waitress came over in good time and took a drink order which showed up in very good time. I also asked a menu question which she got the answer to right away. As another reviewer stated it is *cold* in there! I keep a sweater in my bag for this purpose but still, I was cold. 86 outside, 66 inside (at a guess of course). They may keep the air cold to cool down that hot open kitchen. Bring a jacket or sweater. Our food came out in good time. Portions were generous. Plenty of cheese on my burger. I can understand how another reviewer mentioned the food is salty. The burger is mixed w/a GC spice blend that does seem heavy on the salt. At first it was fine, but I couldn't finish my burger. After a while the taste just stuck in my throat and was too much. May want to pull back a bit on the amount of spice blend being added. The crinkle fries were really good. Nice and crispy. My dining comlanion got the buffalo chicken wrap. Plenty of meat, spicy sauce and veg in this wrap. Trouble is the wrap barely holds the filling in and as the sauce makes the wrap wet, it inevitably fell apart. It is very tasty though, and he happily ate it with a knife and fork. Maybe a bigger wrap is available? 'Cause that portion size is excellent. Staff do seem to congregate in the kitchen area with the expediter. As the dining room got busier, we naturally saw less of our waitress but she did check in a few times and was sure to keep the water glass full and offer drink refills. The ladies room really needs a visual make over and deep clean. It does have a bit of a swampy smell. A machine by the sink, that I believe is a dehumidifier, had a light on it blinking "empty". So the tank was full of water? If it had been running, that may have helped with the smell but I don't know. It wasn't offensive, just a humid bathroom smell. The beer is good, as one would hope from a brewery. They have a selection from Irish Red to pilsners. The menu says to ask about sours. The interior is comfortable, casual with a mix of booths and tables. A couple of the booth seats are in serious disrepair (torn/split material exposing the foam cushion) and need to be fixed. A bar with high top tables is on the other side of the hostess stand keeping the areas seperate. A glass wall seperates you from both the brewing tanks on one wall and the kitchen on another wall. Restrooms by kitchen. Plenty of parking in their private lot. Those entry doors (two sets) are *heavy!
