SUMMARY: Would give them 10 out of 5 if I could for HVAC needs. Simply phenomenal! See below:
HVAC replacement: (April 1st & 2nd, 2025):
The weather was angry that day, my friends, like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli. ... It all started with subzero temps on January 22nd, 2025. A recorded temp of -9 F in Pittsburgh froze our attic furnace condensate lines causing water to backup into the primary heat exchanger which put an arrow through our Ruud furnace's beating heart. Being that we have two furnaces and two air conditioning units that were now 17 years old, our thought process was an eventual replacement of our entire system.
Enter Comfort Solutions Sales Rep, Tory, at Armstrong Comfort Solutions with a competitive bid showing three cost solutions; good, better, and best. We only wanted the best which is typical of our champagne taste on a beer bottle budget. But after talking the options over with the family, we negotiated a price for the best.....2 top of the line, fully variable, Carrier Infinity Greenspeed 24VNA6 three ton AC units; 2 Carrier 98% HE Greenspeed 59MN7 80k btu furnaces; Aprilaire 720A fully automatic humidifier; 2 premier one UV air purifiers w/ odor control for the basement & attic furnaces; 2 Carrier SYSTXCCITC01-C wall control thermostat units for the main and upper floors; surge protection on all units; and finally a larger line set to match these units.
The reasons we went with the best equipment?
1. We did not want guests (or us) to hear our attic furnace above the upstairs bedrooms, or the AC units outside next to our deck & pool where we entertain.
2. Precise temp control using a fully communicating system which smooths out the cold and hot spots in our large home using variable technology (variable furnace blower/modulating gas valve/variable speed compressor).
MORE IMPORTANTLY...the installation. I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH. In order for these components to last, installation was even more important to us than the type of equipment...even w/ a 10 year warranty. This was our install team.....
Tory- our sales rep (& previous installer) who has been with ACS for 3.5 years designed our system to make sure it would be the correct system for our size home. He met our requested needs and ordered components that the installers will be able to install correctly the FIRST time around. He's amazing!
Eli- our Residential Install & Service Supervisor can go DEEP into HVAC knowledge. This man knows his stuff and orchestrated his team to install our fully communicating Carrier system in two days. His attention to detail in our installation was over the top!
Joey B.- Installer with ACS who learned his trade from his father, Shane, (one of the most senior installers at ACS (20+ years)). His attention to detail and communication with us during the install was over the top. I'd be lying if I said he didn't miss a step since nobody can be a perfect installer but he is one that comes close to that goal.
Ethan H.- Installer who worked outside even during a severe thunderstorm warning. At times the rain came down so hard (no lightning or thunder) that I thought he was going to build an ark while connecting the outside line sets to our two 24VNA6 3 ton AC units to the inside equipment.
Darrin finished another job early and headed over to our place to help out with the install. He has a teamwork mindset and was instrumental in helping Eli run communicating wires to the attic. Not an easy job considering how the wires had to be run.
Cooper- the protégé of the team learning his trade contributed his expertise in ways that astounded us as he lent a hand wherever necessary on the job.
Dave Ellenberger & Lou handled the massive task of delivering the new equipment and takeout of the old units from our property. They were incredibly personable and respectful of making sure nothing got damaged in the delivery. I did not want one scratch or bent fin on our new AC units. These beasts are heavy and they did not disappoint with their delicate touch.
Finally, for any unforeseen install challenges, ACS has a jewel of an employee in Mark McNellis. His four-year tenure has allowed Mark to hire a fantastic sales team that concentrate more on helping customers with their HVAC needs rather than selling unnecessary equipment or pushing components for sales goals. His relationships in the business are unmatched in my opinion. You just don't find employees like this who know how to overcome any challenge QUICKLY and effectively. Thank you Mark (& Robbie & Dinger) for your dedication to your craft.
Let the attention to detail & pride in workmanship in the following pictures speak for themselves. BTW, I have no affiliation with any of these folks. I just like to recognize outstanding service, installation, and most importantly folks you can trust who also have a home town touch. I will cherish the relationships I have with my new found HVAC friends. Thank you ACS. You guys ROCK! read more
