This process should NEVER have gone on as long as it did, especially for a project costing over $6,000. What should have been a straightforward fence installation turned into weeks of stress, frustration, and constant follow-up on our end. I want to be clear: our sales representative, Harold Dumas, was the only positive part of this experience in the beginning. He was friendly, professional, and communicative up until the project was ready to begin. After that point, communication completely fell apart. My husband would receive early morning calls saying, "We're ready to start," with no prior scheduling confirmation and no reasonable timeframe given. We have neighbors with children and pets who require notice for safety reasons. Instead, crews were ready to show up before we had even been given the opportunity to inform anyone around us. It was inconsiderate and completely unprofessional. Not only that, but because the initial work was not done correctly, the crew had to come back out and redo sections of the fence. That meant coordinating schedules, notifying neighbors, securing pets, and rearranging our own work obligations all over again. This entire process had to happen twice because the job wasn't done properly the first time. When issues arose and we were trying to get things scheduled and confirm days, my husband called and texted Harold and received no response. When I called the office, I was told I needed to speak with Harold -- the same person who was not responding. We were sent in circles trying to get answers about a project we had already paid thousands of dollars for. As for the workmanship itself: I will be posting photos. Corners were literally cut. Nails were sticking out of the fence. Some boards were missed entirely and never nailed down. This is basic installation work and there is absolutely no excuse for that level of carelessness. The "cleanup" was just as alarming. Trash was left on both our property and our neighbor's property. A stack of nails was left sitting on top of our A/C unit where they could have fallen in and caused damage. Nails that were ground off because they were protruding were left scattered on the ground. Children play in these yards. Dogs run freely. The fact that we even have to worry about someone getting injured because of leftover debris is outrageous. At this point, the biggest issue is trust. After everything we've experienced, I am already questioning the integrity of the work behind what we can't see. When visible details are this sloppy, it is hard to feel confident in the structural quality of the rest. I regret convincing my husband to use this company. We expected professionalism, quality, and accountability. Instead, we got poor communication, substandard workmanship, and a drawn-out process that never should have happened. read more

I had this company, install a fence and a gate with operator at the end of my driveway. Fence installation was good. The gate has had constant issues for the last seven months following install. Finally, it broke altogether and I cannot get anyone to come help me fix it. Service manager is extremely unresponsive, and misdiagnosed the problem with the gate a few times before, ignoring my calls for help altogether. Very disappointed in my experience with Armstrong. I had Armstrong Fence in Jacksonville construct a wooden stockade fence at my home in Jacksonville 4 years ago. I'm attaching some pictures that show that the bottom of the pickets are rotting and disintegrating. Since the lumber warranty is for 15 years, I had the lumber manufacturer's representative (Great Southern Wood Preserving) send an agent to inspect. We removed one of the yellow tags that are attached to the pickets, clearly showing that the lumber is marked "Fencing - No contact with Ground". The installers constructed 7 sections of fence where the pickets were actually buried up to 2 inches deep, voiding the lumber warranty. So now I have a fence that should have lasted 15 years that needs significant repair after only 4 years, due to improper installation. That's about 60- 70 feet of fence. I had the original salesperson come out and inspect, and his only response was to offer to sell me lumber to repair the fence, not to take any responsibility for their clear disregard of proper installation requirements. Although their website says "Armstrong Fence is committed to serving all customers from homeowners, government agencies, corporations and more with the utmost respect and integrity", this is certainly not the case. I called numerous times, left numerous messages and waited plenty of time on hold with no response. I called back today just to give it one last shot. We contacted Armstrong Fence for the SOLE purpose of needing a fenced in yard for our dogs. Pros: - Receptionists were always friendly when either at the desk or on the phone - Fence builders were polite and respectful - Fence itself looks fine and was built quickly Cons: - Original fence/lot surveyor guy was LITERALLY late to every appointment-- anywhere from 30 min to 2 hours late WITHOUT any courtesy call - Fence was built (without our supervision) in such a way that left a huge gap between the bottom of the fence and our yard; this has enabled one of our dogs to get out multiple times (obviously a headache) --- Called Armstrong to come assess to see if they can make adjustments to the gap; original fence/lot surveyor guy came back to the house (late to appointment, again) and assured us that it could be fixed. He even told us what we had to do to the yard first in order for work to be done. We did it. --- Weeks passed. Called company to see what the delay in the job was and apparently the fence height can't be fixed, even though we were assured it could be. Huge waste of our time AND MONEY... fences are expensive! Armstrong Fence is one of the 4 companies I contacted for quotes. The appointment was 12/26/2019 at 12:00 PM. At 12:19 PM, the estimator was a no-call-no-show. I telephoned Armstrong Fencing. The lady who answered the phone said they had not heard from the estimator that day. She promised to quickly try to locate him and call me back with an update. At 12:35 PM, I returned a call to Armstrong Fencing, speaking to the same lady as at 12:19. She said they had not been able to reach the estimator, but could have another one at the house at 1:35 PM. I explained to here that we were in from out-of-town and needed to return to our current home. We agreed that the other estimator would come to our Jax home that day, measure the existing fence for amount of fencing needed and call me, that day, to discuss options. This is now 12/29/2019 and I have yet to hear from them. read more

We spent over $200k in fencing with this Company only to be outrageously neglected and left with a job unfinished. We are a large condominium community in Ponte Vedra. We scheduled our fencing back in July and made the required 50% deposit. We had to build a new sea wall and scheduled the fence to be installed immediately after. All was set until they failed to show up. They did half the job in late November and left us with a 25' open drop into the pond. Zack has zero customer service integrity and promised us three additional dates. He didn't even have the decency to call or e-mail to say they were not showing up again! Today, January 9th, they stood us up again. We are left with an extremely dangerous situation and they simply don't care. We lost two contracts for additional work because we had to delay them due to Armstrong's neglect. I don't know how they stay in business and we are now forced to find alternative means to finish our project. I would give zero stars if I could. I have 260 residents that will receive a copy of this to show who is at fault for this eyesore and grave liability. read more

We tried to be patient and wait long enough to give them time to respond but several weeks (now months) later...crickets. Horrible communication throughout the whole process. We were left with a huge mess! They don't care. Not only that--we think that maybe some of the material (vinyl fencing) they installed was USED. We have several panels that are SO scratched up--they MUST be used. We have a dented post that the installers couldn't possibly have missed. I think they were in a hurry to get out of here because they left tools and a mess for us to clean up. We had concrete on our pool deck and furniture, large mounds of dirt everywhere and every single post and panel had dirty handprints on them. We paid a LOT of money for this fence, and they were certainly not the lowest of the 4 or 5 bids we got. We figured a company in business that long surely would do a good job. We're senior citizens and feel like maybe we were taken advantage of. I hate giving bad reviews!! But when our last request for someone to come out and address these issues was ignored--we decided we didn't want anyone else to spend this kind of money to get sub-par material and work done. We spent over 7000.00 for our fence, we were given very little notice as when they were showing up. Lead worker was worried more about his dog than the Job. Fence was not installed per drawing, Harold gave us his word that he would have someone come out and fix even if it came out of his pocket, no one has showed up yet, it has been over a month since we have talked. Right side of fence has been moved up over a foot from original place causing us problems and killing our tree. Our fence was a large job only sent out 2 people 90 percent of the time to do work, should have been at least 3 people job. I guess we will have to fix problems that we still have with the fence and spend more money. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

Hurricane Mathew blew down our fence and replacing it at the time was challenging because there were lots of fences down because of Matthew and fence companies were extremely busy. Although there was a negative review about Armstrong Fence on Yelp, we decided to give the company the benefit of a doubt and their ace salesman, Mike, showed up a few days after our call when the other three companies we called either didn't return our calls or were showing up much later than Mike. He was professional and the quote was our first so we waited until we had estimates from two other companies. One quote was so low we were dubious about the work they might do. The other was comparable to Armstrong's and even a bit lower, but we were taken with Mike's professionalism and prompt return of our subsequent phone calls. The workers arrived on time and worked their asses off to get that fence up. It took a day and a half because it was a lot of fence to replace. It looked gorgeous. I must admit, it was the best fence in our area. Our landscaper remarked over and over again that "this is a really nice fence and I want to have one just like it." Our neighbors told us how nice it looked and wanted to know the name of the company that built it. (We took down the small sign that the company placed on the fence). In time, the fence settled and we needed to take advantage of Armstrong's free offer and guarantee to replace and repair within the first year of installation. Yesterday, two very professional and high-quality fence repairmen showed up to replace and repair and once again, the work was done excellently. Absolutely disgraceful the way Armstrong conducts business with so little regard for their customers. My employer paid a deposit months ago for work yet to be completed. We struggled to get installers to show up but finally did after several no calls-no shows. When the installers finally did show up they left mid job without any notice. When I called the office I was told there was an emergency. Mind you they left a huge eyesore of equipment and supplies just lying around to be rained on or stolen as well as a pool area with a steep drop off into a lake. On top of that they caused us to lose other contracts due to their lack of urgency. We also had a few weeks where absolutely no progress was made as Armstrong failed to order the correct amount of custom fencing. When the installers finally showed up to supposedly finish the job they threw debris contracted to be removed into our community lake. When told this was unacceptable and asked to remove the debris from the lake they refused and stated this was not included in the contract(wrong). Called Corp Office Thursday, MGR called back and gave excuses for sales person said would get estimate later that day. Friday, still no estimate. I called for an estimate and Harold came out on the day/time he said he would. That was the only thing that went as planned with this business. The estimate was submitted, and I accepted, the date for the install was set for the 28th of September. I planned a vacation to Mexico AROUND the install to ensure I was back in time and that I would not have to take any additional days off from work. I called prior to leaving for Mexico and was told they could not guarantee the work would start on time as "fencing emergencies" can always arise. Fencing emergencies? I had already paid a deposit of 1360 dollars for my fence installation so I am guessing the "emergencies" were jobs they could get in and out of fast to make a dollar. I Was told to call back after I returned from my trip. I called back as requested and was told the crew would not be out the morning of the 28th but would DEFINITELY be out in the afternoon to start the job and they would finish the following day. The 28th came and went like a distant memory with neither hide nor hair of Armstrong Fence. Around 4 pm I called the company and asked if I would be seeing the crew today and was told, "Apparently not". The "crew" arrived on the morning of the 29th and then the fun really began. I cannot remember the name of the installers but the man that was "in charge" arrived either drunk or high or both. He could barely stand up and was obviously under the influence of something. After going over the job with him I went inside my house. Luckily, I kept an eye on the two-man crew because I had to tell him two separate times that he was about to remove the wrong fence! During the course of their visit, the inebriated installer repeatedly came to the door asking for various items. I was asked for a popsicle because he had a toothache and when I said I did not have one he questioned me, "What, you don't have no kids" Yes, I have children, but one is in the Air Force and one is in college for Nursing, both are beyond popsicle age. I was also asked for a pair of my shorts, so the installer could go in my pool, I obviously declined. I did tell the two men that my outside refrigerator had water in it and they could help themselves to it. Apparently, they took that as an open invitation to drink my two liter of Root Beer and partake in a couple beers as well, real classy fellas. The end of the day came and there was yet another knock at my door, this time the installer was squatting down like an Afghanistan detainee obviously in an effort to not completely fall over and this is when I was told the job would not be completed today, in fact he was "in trouble" for not being able to complete the work on time. Truth be told, he wasn't anywhere close to being done at this point. As the crew prepared to leave I asked, "When will I know if you are coming back tomorrow" and was told, "When 0930 comes and I am not here". The crew left at least 6 piles of fencing debris scattered about my property as well as all their tools asking me to "Keep an eye on them". Following day came and went and no sign of Armstrong Fence. I was told someone would be out Monday. The Assistant Superintendent came out Monday and finished the job, 5 days after the initial completion date. I was told the original installer had been, "taken off the truck" and that he installed my double gate frame upside down. At no point did anyone attempt to collect any money from me, then the phones calls started. Not too long after the completion of the fence, I went on a military deployment. Harold began calling and leaving messages stating, "Call me" and that was it. My wife had no idea who Harold was as I was the one dealing with the company from start to finish. Had Harold simply stated the reason for his call and not left orders to "call him", my wife would have gladly remitted the payment. All in all, I would say this was the absolute worst experience I have had with any company I have dealt with, and I have had some real winners. Do yourself a favor, pass on Armstrong Fence. Even after complaining to the Assistant Superintendent, I have yet to be contacted with anything resembling an apology. I would not recommend this company to my absolute worst enemy, if I could give it negative stars I would.
