You know you're getting "older" when you just enjoy a day at an Armstrong Garden Center... whew do I love plants now! Swung by here around 11AM on a Tuesday to a few people, sunny day, and lovely plants. The LB location isn't too difficult to find if ya put the location in your mobile device - off of 10th street, west of Woodrow High School. This Armstrong has a rather large parking lot for its location/size and has a bunch of street parking as well. I'm no "plantologist", but Armstrongs do a pretty great job of keeping their plants vibrant and colorful. On this day I sought out some air plants and succulents as XMas gifts. I'll y'all know that their air plant selection isn't the greatest (granted that's not their true bread n' butter), but they had really nice and beautiful ones I've never seen. In particular, I was able to get a velutina and pruinosa, which I've never seen in person before. From what I recall they had your typical ionantha, medusae, and lorentziana, etc. All air plants came in varying sizes and associated prices and were outside, close to the checkout counter (as if they knew....). I also grabbed some cacti, for my grand-mama. After a few weeks I can assure y'all they are all thriving. All-in-all a wonderful place, with a myriad of plants for the average plant enthusiast. I enjoyed my conversations with the employees and gaining knowledge about the different plants, how to take care of them, and personal anecdotes about what to and not to do. Armstrong is literally my neighborhood garden center. It has everything I need to keep my plant babies happy. From the planting medium, fertilizer, plant food, pots, etc., they've got all that my plants need. Special shout-out to Virginia for her friendliness and wealth and knowledge (not to mention, patience) has is great. She is always so helpful and I love it when I see her working there as we always strike a conversation about planes we love, haha. In fact, many store employees are knowledgeable and friendly offering their help. They get several shipments in weekly and you literally have to pop in in order to see what new goods (hard to find plants for me) they have in stock. What a wonderful place. Came here looking for a new pot and substrate for my growing monstera and left with pots, soil, herbs, and pollinator friendly flowers. Every time we've shopped at this location, one of the managers named Brianne has gone above and beyond to help us with our plant needs. Brianne is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. She takes the time to listen to our needs and find the best plants to grow in our garden. Brianne even gives us planting and growing tips to ensure that our plants thrive in our garden. Overall, I'd recommend going here if you're into gardening. Compared to home improvement stores, Armstrong is a little pricier but has better plants and selection with more helpful staff. read more

Went here to buy my first house plant and spent over 2 hour there because there was such a large selection to look at. There were not many employees inside on a Tuesday morning who were readily available to ask for help, I had to go look but they all were busy so I just kept browsing. Eventually I stood in line and had to ask for help and advice from the cashier who then went on his break and was replaced by Virginia (I think that was her name). She was the sweetest and very honest about which plant I should buy and how to care for it. She said I wasn't ready to take care of one of the two plants I was deciding on, and to just start out simple. I am grateful for her advice. If you're looking for a Christmas tree, go to Todd's on 7th/Ximeno. Armstrong charges $300 for a tree, and delivery fees start at $75 for a 6ft tree and quickly jump up to $125for a 7-8ft tree. At Todd's, I paid less than $300 for an 8ft tree, which included the stand, water tray, and bag. Delivery? $30 bucks. read more

Updating my review to 5 stars! I got a call back about my order. Also, I decided to give the moss a second chance. I bought a different brand of moss poles for only $8.99! They're a lot cheaper than the DIY ones I make. I also got a bunch of cute pots and a scindapsus. They were unloading the plants and I got a gorgeous one. One of the employees was super helpful and kind to me. He helped me take my stuff to the register and helped me carry everything to my car. I've been to all of the nurseries in the area, and this one is my favorite due to their customer service. The store manager especially is incredibly knowledgeable about plant diseases and plant care. At check-out, the names and faces of all of the nursery leadership and key employees are on a big sign, which is great to use to get to know the team, and shows they take pride in what they do. I've come in twice with plant issues, once with aphids on an outdoor vine and another time with yellowing and browning leaves on two different plants I've had for a long time, where I brought photos and a sample of the yellow leaves. The store manager genuinely enjoyed diving into the issue with me, explaining causes and treatments, and giving watering advice. His advice and Armstrong's insecticidal soap helped me get the aphids under control, and it was good to know that the yellow and brown leaves I was concerned about were both a result of watering issues. Their plants perform really well, and are reasonably priced with a very good selection. read more

I always have a great experience at several of the Armstrong's I've been to! Here, there's one older gentleman in particular who is so helpful! He will educate you on your plants in depth and take the time to walk around the store with you to help select the correct plant accessories you'll need! My only complaint is, when I get my plants from the Armstrong's in Newport, the plants thrive and flourish. When I get the ones from Long Beach, they tend to struggle and I've had a few die on me. The ones from Newport are all alive and well! (I have over 20 indoor plants). I tried several times to make sure it wasn't just me, but I had conveniently kept track of where I bought which plant and noticed the trend. Still! I really love this place! They have been so super helpful with my burgeoning green thumb. Armstrong's is solely responsible for all of the fresh herbs that are making it into my recipes. I've planted garlic chives, 3 kinds of basil, mint (good lord my mint is going crazy!), cilantro, parsley, oregano....all organic and all of them flourishing. It is so exciting to go out and snip what I need. I'm now working on kale and cabbage and a few varieties of lettuce. Without their help, I would not likely have felt confident enough to keep adding to my garden. Their flowering plants are absolutely beautiful. I am constantly adding to my deck and will forever be grateful to them for turning me into a gardening princess! I love it! Their prices are super reasonable too! We love Armstrong. All of the employees are so knowledgeable. We spend some time asking them a lot of questions since we don't know much about gardening, and they've helped us build a nice indoor jungle. We've gotten several indoor plants from here. One of them had started browning so on our next trip we discussed how we could improve it's coloring, and they even offered to return it but we took their tips and our plant has turned around. They're also dog friendly which is great! During covid, they have sanitizer available and everyone is wearing masks. Much appreciated! read more

I went to this place 4 times over 4 months and purchased 7 different plants. Within 2 weeks, a few of my plants started showing problem signs and by 2 months EVERY SINGLE plant I purchased from here had died of stem or root rot. I have 32 other plants from other nurseries that are still alive and thriving for longer than that. All of my plants received the same water and sunlight, but the difference was I listened to the advice of the Armstrong employees when I purchased the plants and I think that's why they died. I should have stuck to what I knew with my other plants and should have continued with my new plants from Armstrong. They have a great selection and there is plenty of outdoor space so I felt safe shopping during COVID. There is plenty of parking. read more

Recently I shopped at this nursery and was absolutely delighted! The wide choice of plants, pots, soil, plant food, etc. is excellent, and the plants are all exceptionally healthy. But best of all is the staff: VIRGINIA helped me find exactly what I needed and was able to diagnose some problems of my plants at home. Everything she suggested worked like a charm. She can tell you exactly which kind of soil will work for any given plant plus light, watering, and food. VIVA was at the checkout counter when I was finished and was friendly and knowledgeable, and (at my request) signed me up for an account. For $46 I got three good-sized plants, six starter Impatiens plants, a bag of soil, and a bag of bark chips. It's been about two weeks and all of the plants have grown significantly and are adding to the atmosphere of my home. I'll be back! read more

Lately I've been obsessed with houseplants. I begged my boyfriend to take me here to look for house plants. We came here 30 minutes before the store close. There was so many plants I want to see in such a short time. The workers there are so helpful. I was look for a monstera plant and there was so many except they were too big. The worker showed me all of the monstera plants that was in stocks and he also show me a similar plants that is also in the monstera family.
