I would strongly caution anyone considering Lakewood Nursery. About a year ago, I purchased a large podocarpus tree from them for several hundred dollars and paid an additional couple hundred dollars for installation in the planter in front of my house. Not long after planting, the tree didn't seem to be developing properly, so I stopped by looking for advice. The experience was disappointing. The employee helping me appeared visibly intoxicated in the middle of the day (someone I believe is connected to ownership, as I had met him during the purchase). He was unhelpful and dismissive, so I left without any real guidance. I continued trying to care for the tree, but within two months it died. When I returned to ask whether there was any warranty, replacement option, or even assistance toward purchasing a new tree, I was met by a rude employee who immediately became defensive, repeatedly emphasizing that they are a "family-owned business" while offering zero accountability or solutions. Instead, I was blamed for the tree dying, despite the fact that I had already come in previously asking for help. For a business that sells and installs expensive trees, I expected at least some level of customer service, support, or professionalism. Instead, I got poor advice, no accountability, and an overall hostile experience. I'll be taking my business elsewhere and would recommend others do the same. Update: After digging up the dead tree, it was obvious why it failed. The root ball was extremely tight and root-bound, likely from sitting too long in the nursery box. It only had two mature roots supporting it, and both had been cut during removal and installation. They also didn't use fresh soil when planting it, which gave it little chance to establish. I went to another family-owned nursery afterward, and the difference was clear--they stood behind their product and offered a one-year warranty. read more

Lakewood Nursery is huge! I was honestly surprised at how many options they have -- everything from flowers to trees, and especially a fantastic succulent selection. The prices are very fair (succulents are a steal compared to other places I've been), and the whole nursery is really well maintained. You can tell they take pride in keeping it clean and organized. There's also plenty of parking, so no circling around forever, and the service here is fast and efficient. I was able to find what I needed, get help when I had a question, and check out in no time. Came here on a weekday, early afternoon. It wasnt too busy. I didn't really notice any employees roaming around the plant area, they were all around the counter and in the center store. They have a huge selection of plants, trees, flowers, succulents, all of it. Many different sizes to choose from as well, and very organized. Seems like the prices were pretty fair as well. The only thing i was kinda disappointed about, was the indoor plants in the green house.. they were all bone dry and looked like they were dying. Wanted to come leave this here in hopes that customers are treated differently. My 21 year old son visited this nursery this afternoon looking for a plant for my birthday. The older white lady with glasses was not helpful at all. As a matter of fact she was rude. The white older gentleman that ended up helping my son was very helpful and friendly. I was looking for an alternative plant nursery, and I think I found it! Aside from going to Home Depot and Armstrong nurseries, which, quite frankly, have ridiculous prices and an overrated selection, I was just out of ideas of where to go. Then bammm. Just literally saw this place from the street and drove in to check it out!. To my surprise so much to see, and the selection is wild! Lots of variety, lots of different species and colors and what I truly enjoyed, the prices made my wallet happy. Literally 20% to 30% less . I wish I liked this place more. The people were very friendly. It wasn't super busy when I came (weekday morning). The selection is actually top notch. However, I didn't grab anything as it was out of my budget for plants. I will say though that if you are looking for a variety of plants outside the garden department at Lowe's or Home Depot, this place is great. I became an indoor plant mommy during this pandemic and I am so proud of my plants that just beautify our home. This became my hobby while working from home, I've been here many time on my lunch break, after work, and on the weekends. I am addicted. I love this nursery a lot and it's so close to home. After visiting multiple nurseries, I've noticed that Lakewood Nursery prices are about 40% or more to other places for the same plants. The plants need a little love and care. I still think delivery for $25 within 10 miles is a good deal though. This is not my go-to place any longer. read more

I bought several pots of milkweed to support a monarch butterfly habitat I received as a gift. The plants were not just healthy but also came with their own monarch butterfly caterpillars and eggs- that's proof right there that they were grown organically. Also got a variety of herbs: pineapple mint, two other types of basil (Thai and purple) and another mint plant. They had tons of tomato, lettuces and kale, flowering plants by the flat, companion plants for your vegetable garden (marigold and nasturtium attract aphids and other non beneficial insects). They also sell live earthworms for your garden. They sell garden soil and premium garden soil conditioners for those who want to grow "recreational" plants. I'm using these though for my vegetable patch. The young workers (David) also very kindly will load your bags of dirt in your car for you. Try getting that service from the box store. I wish they carried more plant boxes or pots. read more

Update: My response to owner's response from google, I understand that emergencies happen. My recollection of what happen that day is a guy wiping and cleaning his truck and continuing to do so even after acknowledging that I waited in front of the nursery. Lakewood Nursery has been nothing but phenomenal! I came across their nursery on Yelp as I was searching for where I could purchase a String of Hearts. I came in & I asked and luckily one was available! Every employee was wearing a mask, everyone was helpful, and their prices are very affordable! If you're starting a plant collection (indoor or outdoor), I highly recommend coming here. I've had a friend stop by after I mentioned their spot on social media and she was super satisfied and took home a few plants as well! I came here with my gfs for a little plant shopping outting. It was really fun, the staff was really nice, and they pointed me to everything I was looking for. I picked up an Iresine and some coleus that I didn't already have. My gfs picked up a bunch of variegated and pinkish succulents outside. The cacti and succulent selection was really good.
